In this episode, I'm joined by Sussex TEL colleague Matt Taylor (Learning Technologist), Learning Technologist from Brighton Fiona MacNeill and Dr. Kevin Merry, Senior Academic Development Consultant at De Montfort University (DMU). Kevin recently gave a seminar at Sussex about the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Journey at DMU. Celia Popovic is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at York University, Toronto, Canada. In 2019 Celia took part in a SoTL project exploring support for faculty and included undergrad students in the process. Prior to recording this podcast, Celia led a seminar for colleagues at the University of Sussex. Final year Psychology Student also work with the organisation Sussex Writes, penned a blog post about how to teach students online. Aimed at those teaching young people, the guidance though, is equally applicable to higher education. Given that nearly all teaching is now online, I spoke to Chloe about her top tips and her experience as a student during the pandemic. In what now seems a distant memory, our last on campus seminar was the first of the DARE to Transform seminars. Sessions to support colleagues who are on the Scholarship track at the University. Daniel is a PHD Student at the University of Sussex, working on tangible interfaces amongst other things in the Sussex Computer Human Interaction lab. As part of our Digital Accessibility series I caught up with Daniel about his experience of losing his sight at age 17. A crucial time in education and just as he was planning his university journey. Daniel talks about his experience of this, the challenges and how he was supported, along with some tools he uses. Daniel finishes by giving some great advice. Dr. David Sloan has been working in the field of digital accessibility and inclusive design for nearly 20 years. In February he visited the University of Sussex to talk to staff about how we as an organisation and as individuals can build our own capability in this space.
