When timeless advertising principles meet today's AI-saturated landscape, something surprising happens: the old rules still work.Especially when we're talking about the father of advertising himself, David Ogilvy. In this episode, we dive into his iconic book, Ogilvy on Advertising, with special guest Eric Williamson, CMO at CallMiner.Together, we explore what B2B marketers can learn from Ogilvy's approach: why specificity beats slogans, how research powers emotional storytelling, and why writing for humans is the real differentiator.About our guest, Eric WilliamsonAs CallMiner's Chief Marketing Officer, Eric oversees all global marketing functions from brand and events to demand generation. Eric's marketing team works very closely with channel and sales to drive pipeline and CallMiner's explosive growth. Eric has over 20 years of experience in both technology and consumer products marketing from both the vendor and agency side. Before joining CallMiner, Eric was VP Brand & Digital Marketing at Acquia — an open DXP platform built around Drupal — where he led brand, creative services, webops, editorial, and demand generation. Prior to Acquia, Eric was on the agency side of marketing working as SVP Digital & Social at MullenLowe, and before that as VP Digital Strategy at The Martin Agency. During his career Eric has worked with a variety of B2C and B2B brands including Google, Microsoft, Intel, GEICO, Walmart, P&G, Pizza Hut, Acura, Royal Caribbean, and Hyatt. He earned his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University, and an MBA from The University of Texas at Dallas. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Ogilvy on Advertising:Start with the line, not the logo. Great B2B brands don't start with visuals, they start with voice. The sharpest creative begins on the page, not the mood board. “Copy first, research first, copy second, then worry about the visuals,” Eric says. In other words: write the line that earns attention before you pick the font.Write for humans. Most B2B copy dies in a sea of jargon. What buyers actually want is to feel seen. “It's really easy to fall into a place for a technology company to talk about your tech, talk about your features… and there's nothing emotional about that,” Eric says. The fix is to start by writing for humans. Emotion isn't a nice-to-have, it's your edge.Don't guess, ask. You don't need personas when you have real people. The best insights come from your customers, not your whiteboard. Eric says, “Just go talk to them…Why do they keep staying with you? What sort of thing that they worry about at night does this help solve for them?” The answers aren't in your funnel. They're in the field.Quote“ Write for humans because, ultimately, that's who you're selling to, that's who you're trying to influence. It's really understanding their emotions. What are their fears, what are their desires? Even in the B2B world, it's easy to forget that.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Eric Williamson, Chief Marketing Officer at CallMiner[00:58] Why Ogilvy On Advertising?[02:49] The Role of CMO at CallMiner[03:38] Origins of Ogilvy On Advertising[06:56] B2B Marketing Takeaways from Ogilvy on Advertising[21:29] Ogilvy's Predictions[37:23] CallMiner's Marketing Strategies[41:57] AI as a Solution[44:20] Advice for Marketing Leaders[45:38] Final Thoughts & TakeawaysLinksConnect with Eric on LinkedInLearn more about CallMinerAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. In this illuminating conversation with Max DesMarais, Director of Strategy at Vital Design, we explore how small photo businesses can effectively compete against industry giants despite limited marketing budgets.DesMarais reveals a significant shift that's reshaping the marketing world: organic search visibility is declining as "pay-to-play is becoming more important than ever." With Google's expanded ad space and AI features consuming the search results page, there has been a dramatic drop in organic click-through rates. This doesn't mean small businesses, however, should abandon hope - quite the opposite.Local photo retailers possess unique advantages that national companies can't match. Through Google's local customization, smaller businesses can achieve higher visibility in their specific markets. DesMarais emphasizes overlooked yet powerful tactics like optimizing Google Business Profiles and leveraging relationships with other local businesses through cross-promotion and interlinking - signals that establish legitimacy and boost organic rankings. We dive deep into conversion optimization through A/B testing, with DesMarais suggesting approachable starting points like testing email subject lines and comparing designed emails against plain text versions.

Olive for Education, Ireland's leading EdTech provider for post-primary schools, has announced the launch of its Learning Wallet, in a move to support students, schools and parents during the upcoming Senior Cycle Reform. Olive for Education looks to empower students and educators by making digital learning straightforward, safe, and accessible - exemplified by this latest product launch. The Learning Wallet is Olive for Education's all-in-one digital learning solution, designed to make personalised, curriculum-aligned technology accessible to every post-primary student in Ireland. Available on a subscription basis, the Learning Wallet offers a complete education bundle that includes a high-quality student laptop, built-in security measures, technical support for parents and teachers alike, and bespoke digital learning tools tailored to the Irish secondary school curriculum. CEO of Olive for Education, Ian Gaughran, said on the announcement: "Every student in Ireland deserves access to the tools that will help them thrive in a digital world - that's what the Learning Wallet is all about. As we move into a new era of education with the Senior Cycle Reform and the Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027, it's vital that no student is left behind simply because of cost or access. With the Learning Wallet, we have built a complete solution with equity in mind." This offering is specifically designed for students taking the junior and leaving certificate across Ireland seeking to transition to a 1:1 student device model - where the student has access to their own personal device for use both in the classroom and at home. With the introduction of the new Senior Cycle assessment model in September 2025 - where at least 40% of student grades will come from continuous assessment such as typed-up project work and practicals, the need for digital fluency in schools has never been more urgent. Students need access to digital tools to produce, manage, and submit this work, but that access cannot be limited to those who can afford high-cost devices, nor should it rely on teachers working overtime to bridge the gap. "In the current economic climate, the cost of a secure, education-ready device - typically between €600 and €700 - can be challenging for a lot of families.. With limited government funding currently available, the burden often falls on parents or school fundraising, creating serious barriers to access. We recognised this growing challenge, and wanted to provide a solution that supports all of the most important stakeholders - students, teachers and parents. "Through the Learning Wallet subscription, students gain access to high-quality devices and exclusive educational content, while teachers and parents benefit from ongoing support and control. As Ireland prepares for the most significant education reform in a century, Olive for Education is leading the charge to ensure every student is ready for what comes next," Gaughran added. With a mission to make digital learning equitable and future-focused, Olive for Education partners with schools nationwide to provide a seamless, curriculum-aligned digital experience. Today, led by a team of EdTech and education experts with over 40 years' combined experience, Olive for Education supports nearly 50 schools and over 10,000 students across Ireland, helping to modernise classrooms and bridge the gap between outdated infrastructure and the demands of 21st-century learning. While supermajors have pushed forward with large-scale transformation programs, many mid-market firms are only beginning to explore how digital innovation can improve performance. Their operational processes—budgeting, forecasting, asset planning—tend to mirror those of larger firms but constrained by fewer resources and less internal capability. Unfortunately, mid-sized companies cannot simply copy the big-company playbook. They lack dedicated data teams, struggle with legacy systems, and must handle all the integration hassles with bespoke coding. At the same time, they are under the same pressure to lower costs, improve transparency, and make faster, better decisions. Is a pragmatic and impactful digital transformation even possible in this context? Absolutely. In this episode, I speak with Lewis Gillhespy, Executive Advisor at Rockflow, on practical solutions that work with mid-sized firms. By focusing on core business processes—particularly budgeting and production forecasting—smaller firms can drive efficiency through better data quality, increased transparency, and dashboard-driven decision-making. A bonus outcome is that improved data transparency leads to a self-reinforcing data stewardship culture, and why starting with business needs (not technology hype) is the key to lasting change.

For decades, hydraulic fracturing—or fracking—has relied heavily on water and sand to crack underground rock and release oil and gas. Fracking is safe, proven, and reliable, and in collaboration with horizontal drilling, has resulted in the huge growth in hydro carbon production in the US and Canada. But fresh water is a scarce resource particularly in arid settings, and in many places under stress because of climate change. Disposal of used water is a technical challenge and costly. The sand resource, or proppant, is both costly to mine and heavy to ship. The mechanical process of forcing water and sand under pressure down the wells and into the rock generates a substantial carbon footprint. Enter RocketFrac, a Calgary-based innovator using solid rocket fuel to crack the status quo. Unlike conventional fracking, RocketFrac's technology eliminates the need for water and sand, which dramatically lowers carbon emissions and site disturbance. This self-propping, solid-fuel-based technique also opens up economically stranded assets, including abandoned or underperforming wells, with potential applications in water-stressed regions like California and the Middle East. It's an innovation that could redefine the economics and environmental impact of oil extraction. In this episode I speak with Pavan Elapavuluri, Chief Technology Officer at RocketFrac, to hear firsthand about the origin of RocketFrac's solution, the physics behind the technology, its regulatory journey, and the digital tools they're using to model outcomes and rank well candidates. From carbon offsets to offshore potential, this episode is an explosive look at what could be the next big leap in oilfield operations. And yes, those puns are all intended! ⸻

Natural gas producers have long struggled to differentiate their product in a market that treats gas as a commodity. When it comes to carbon intensity (CI), the industry is reliant on emission factors and self-reported data, and lacks a credible, data-driven approach to proving their gas carries a lower CI. With new regulations like the Inflation Reduction Act's Waste Emission Charge and Europe's carbon border tax, the opportunity to produce verifiable low-emission gas has grown dramatically. Enter “empirical gas”—natural gas measured in real time with actual data instead of estimates. In this episode, I catch up with my buddy Mark Smith, CEO of Clean Connect, about how his company integrates AI, camera-based monitoring, and process simulation software to create real-time, third-party verifiable emissions data. This transformation not only reduces tax burdens but unlocks access to premium markets willing to pay for low-carbon gas. The implications are massive for producers, traders, and tech firms alike.
