Hello everyone!  I'm completely thrilled to bring you this month's episode of The Becoming Podcast with Dr. Hillary McBride, my colleague and co-author of a chapter about the development of spirituality in matrescence in the recent book I've edited, Mother Becoming:  Reflections and Scholarship on Matrescence. Let me tell you a little bit about Hillary: Dr. Hillary McBride is a Registered Psychologist, host of the award winning CBC podcast Other People's Problems, and author of 5 books, including the Bestseller The Wisdom of Your Body and her most recent book released last year: Holy Hurt: Understanding spiritual trauma and the process of healing. She has been recognized by the American Psychological Association and Canadian Psychologist Association for her research and clinical work, and was awarded the prestigious International Young Investigators Award for her research contributions on women's sexuality. When she is not with patients or students, researching embodiment, or writing her next book, she loves to be near the ocean, or dancing with her daughter. Here's some of what Hillary and I dive into in our conversation together: The way that women's rites of passage, particularly matrescence and menopause, have been pathologized, overmedicalized and seen through a lens of deficiency...and how they are also, often, times of great potential and possibility in women's lives. How women's processes of growing up are often framed as a loss within misogynistic, patriarchal culture. Hillary's research on what happens during these developmental transitions when things go well...including that many women feel more connected to themselves and more embodied as they transform, but also afraid to talk about it because our culture so often supports and prefers a narrative of struggle during these times. We geek out on how you know a rite of passage is over, and some of the most important supports that can help us to integrate and metabolize transformative times in our lives. The spiritual growth that often occurs for women during the rites of passage they experience in their lives, including the chapter Hillary co-authored with our mutual colleague Dr. Larissa Rossen for the Mother Becomingbook on mothering as a spiritual technology. And so much more!  I loved this conversation with Hillary – I found it both tremendously affirming and deeply galvanizing as we look toward the power and potential that exists when women's rites of passage are well supported.  I hope you enjoy it too!   Listen to this episode on iTunes   Show Notes Hillary's website Hillary's instagram Hillary's CBC Podcast, "Other People's Problems" Hillary's books Mother Becoming:  Reflections and Scholarship on Matrescence   Also, while you're at it, if you enjoy the Becoming Podcast, I would be so grateful if you would rate, review and even subscribe to it wherever you get your podcasts.  That goes a long way to helping more and more people find and benefit from hearing these interviews.  Thank you so much!

The scholarship scheme is designed to attract, encourage and support women to study STEM subjects at Trinity. The successful students receive additional mentoring support from Three Ireland and from the Faculty of STEM. In October 2025, the scholarship application process was open to both first-year and second-year student applicants who are registered in selected STEM courses. Recipients were chosen based on a written application. The scholarships are open to female students who are resident in Ireland and have accepted a place in one of the following Trinity undergraduate programmes: School of Computer Science & Statistics, School of Engineering, School of Mathematics, School of Physics and the School of Chemistry (Chemical Science only). Dr Linda Doyle, Provost, Trinity College Dublin, said: "We need many more women studying, shaping, and leading in STEM, and it is vital that we create pathways that empower them to do so. "The Three Ireland Connect to STEM programme is proving to be transformative in this mission. I want to congratulate this year's awardees, and I also want to thank Three Ireland for working with us to support these remarkable women." Prof. Sylvia Draper, Dean of STEM at Trinity, said: "I want to acknowledge the personal stories and the achievements of all the applicants. The students who have won these scholarships are truly deserving of our admiration and our support. I have no doubt that they will go on to do extraordinary things and to make their mark in the college, in science, in society, and in the world of work. The enthusiasm, commitment, and engagement of everyone involved in this programme has been inspiring. "These scholarships would not have been possible but for the generosity and vision of Three Ireland. It has been wonderful to work with them so closely. Their support has helped us to offer STEM programmes that are open to all, and to ensure that we have Three Ireland Connect to STEM scholars, with the skills to address global challenges and to advance diversity throughout their careers." Elaine Carey, Chief Executive Officer, Three Ireland, said: "Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Three Ireland and as a major employer in this sector, we are deeply committed to building a more diverse and representative STEM community. We know we need more women in STEM, and that is why our partnership with Trinity matters so much. Through the Connect to STEM Scholarships, we are helping to remove barriers, build confidence, and create meaningful pathways to opportunity. "It was a real privilege to meet this year's scholarship recipients and hear their stories. The calibre of talent, determination and ambition on display was truly impressive. These young women have incredibly bright futures ahead of them, and we are proud to play a small part in supporting their journey." More about Irish Tech News Irish Tech News are Ireland's No. 1...

I want to alert you, so you don’t miss out on expert analysis and insider perspectives from my guests who provide tips that can help you uplift the community, improve your financial planning, motivation, or advice on how to be a successful entrepreneur. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Shelli-Ann McKenzie. Purpose of the Interview The interview focuses on advocating for healthcare professionals, addressing the challenges they face, and introducing Shelli-Ann McKenzie’s nonprofit organization, Help for Healthcare Professionals (HCPP). The goal is to highlight burnout, financial struggles, and systemic issues in healthcare while promoting programs that support mental wellness, financial literacy, and career development. Key Takeaways Healthcare Workforce Challenges Nurses and healthcare professionals face high stress, burnout, and long hours, leading to workforce shortages. Many professionals struggle financially—24% live in poverty. Lack of professors in nursing schools limits the number of students entering the profession. Understanding Nursing Roles Nursing includes multiple levels: Registered Nurse (RN): Associate or bachelor’s degree. Advanced Practice Nurses: Master’s level (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator). Doctorate Level: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD. Nurse practitioners often function as an extension of physicians, providing quality care. Respect and Recognition Nurses provide more direct care than any other health profession but often lack recognition. Advocacy is key to ensuring nurses can practice at the highest level and improve access to care. Why HCPP Was Founded Born out of COVID-19 crisis and Shelli-Ann’s personal experience with burnout. Mission: Provide mental health referrals, financial assistance (gift cards, gas), and professional development. Programs include: Financial literacy workshops Entrepreneurship training for healthcare professionals Scholarships and internships for aspiring professionals Youth Med Program Targets ages 13–20 to build a healthcare workforce pipeline. Offers hands-on training, CPR certification, exposure to neurosurgeons, and mentorship. Tuition-free and designed to scale nationally. Funding and Community Support HCPP is a nurse-owned nonprofit, funded by federal grants and donations. Annual event: Night of Grand and Gratitude—a charity awards dinner to raise funds for programs. Notable Quotes “No one else was coming to save us—so I created HCPP.” “24% of healthcare professionals live in poverty.” “If we don’t have enough professors, we cap nursing students—it’s cyclical.” “The most rewarding part of nursing is showing up for people in their most vulnerable moments.” “Every dollar we raise fuels education programs like Youth Med—strategic investment in the future of healthcare.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSteve Harvey Morning Show Online: http://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Studying Chinese media has never been a stable intellectual enterprise. As Professor Yuezhi Zhao once observed, it often resembles aiming at a target that appears clear from a distance but becomes elusive on closer inspection. Over the past decade, that target has grown even more fragmented and mobile. Media systems across the Chinese-speaking world—including the People's Republic of China (PRC), Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, and transnational Chinese communities—have been reshaped by rapid technological transformation, intensifying geopolitical rivalry, and profound political change. It is against this backdrop that the second edition of The Routledge Handbook of Chinese Media has been published. Rather than simply updating a reference work, this edition reflects a field fundamentally reconfigured. Assumptions formed before the full societal penetration of digital platforms and social media now require serious reconsideration. The digital is no longer one topic among many; it is central to understanding contemporary political, cultural, and economic life. In this podcast conversation, co-editors Dr Ming-yeh Rawnsley and Dr Yiben Ma reflect on the making of the new volume. Dr Ma contributed to the first edition (2015) and joined the editorial team for the second edition, also authoring a new chapter. After introducing the book and outlining its scope, they share seven key reflections as editors and scholars of Chinese media: Digital transformation as the organising principle Scholarship grounded in lived experience A regional lens without isolation Expanding the field beyond institutional narratives The limits of global communication strategy Hong Kong: accelerated transformation Macao: continuity and quiet change The second edition comprises 29 chapters, in addition to an extensive introduction. Despite striving for breadth and balance, the editors recognise that many areas remain underexplored and warrant sustained attention. They hope the volume will stimulate further research and dialogue. As global uncertainty deepens and information politics become increasingly consequential, the study of Chinese media can no longer be regarded as a specialised regional concern. It is central to understanding how power, technology, and communication interact in the contemporary world. In this sense, the handbook contributes not only to Chinese media studies but also to the broader field of media and communications. Learn more about your ad choices. Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College

Northeast Mississippi Community College President Dr. Ricky G. Ford and Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery look at what every new student should know before stepping onto campus for the first time. Ford reflects on how it's perfectly normal to feel nervous or unsure on that first day — especially for first-generation students or adults returning to school. He reminds listeners that there are no bad questions and encourages everyone to reach out, ask for help, and take advantage of the many resources available at Northeast. Ford also shares valuable advice for managing the pace of college life, emphasizing that education isn't a race. Instead, students should take time to adjust, choose a manageable course load, and focus on progress rather than perfection. By slowing down, connecting with faculty and staff, and using available support services, students can build a strong foundation for long-term success at Northeast and beyond. Plus, get the latest updates on athletics, academics, workforce development, and all the incredible things happening at one of the nation's premier community colleges.

Mike sits down with West Virginia Congressman Riley Moore, whose path to Capitol Hill began with a welding torch. Moore shares why he chose the skilled trades early in life, what that work taught him about dignity and opportunity, and how those lessons now shape his approach to policy. The discussion centers on Moore's new legislation, the Jumpstart Savings Act, a proposal designed to remove financial barriers to apprenticeships, tools, and certifications—and to breathe new life into America's skilled trades by treating them with the same respect long afforded to four-year degrees.
