Covering all things with the Green and Gold. A Packers podcast with hosts MJ Hurley, AJ Ryder, and Jake Schyvinck
In this episode of The Gold Zone, AJ, MJ, and Jake move over to the defensive side of the ball to preview every one of those positions ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. They start on the edge, and Jake brings the formula (1:55) for the position, talking about two top guys, a versatile player, and two guys on Florida State that could end up as Packers. They move over to defensive tackle next (13:10), and Jake discusses how the class is mostly one strength or another. There are some players to look at as rushers, and AJ brings up how a season off makes Jay Tufele's evaluation more difficult. Then, the focus shifts to linebacker (23:00), where there are differing opinions. From a 218 pound JOK to 270 pound Zaven Collins and everyone in between, it's important to consider the Packers going in that direction. Then, MJ tries to make a mock draft with a LB in round 1 (29:32), and reception isn't great. They move on to corners (35:20) which had a full episode previously. MJ does another mock (49:20), and then the focus shifts to safety (53:18), where Jake wants one of the top few at the position and wouldn't be shocked if that's the direction. MJ makes his final mock which gets an ovation (1:07:25).
The guys are BACK with the Gold Zone after a small hiatus at just the right time. The 2021 NFL Draft is set to kick off in just over a week and the Packers are once again a bundle of intrigue. Here, AJ, MJ, and Jake take a look at every offensive position and throw out some players that the Packers could look at. At QB (2:35), we'd be remiss to forget about Kellen Mond, whose high variance play is a definite topic among the QB talk. AJ is still a big fan, and there's one other who could become a solid backup in the future for Jordan Love when the reigns are passed over. At RB (10:30), there will be nothing doing early, but filling out the room could include a late pick at the position. The wide receivers are always a big topic of discussion (18:16), and Jake comes out the gate with two gadget players (19:45) who have been linked to the Packers. AJ brings up a small school guy (27:45), and Jake brings up a few deep threats (29:47), and they finish with big bodied receivers who fit the bill. At TE (37:05), despite the room being full, it could look different in 2021. A couple late round guys could make sense for the Packers. The tackle position is loaded this year (45:35), and there are two names in play at 29. There are a number of players that could be in play on day two. Jake pounds the table for a center on the interior to GB (1:00:47), and they talk about a Whitewater prospect linked to Green Bay. At the end, Jake poses the question as to the number of picks used on offense (1:10:30), then blows it all up with the likely scenario of the Packers bamboozling everyone.
This episode of The Gold Zone is brought to you by Prime Time Sports Talk. The guys open things up by talking about the re-signing of cornerback Kevin King (1:40) and what looks like a true commitment to "run it back". Then, MJ rants about Preston Smith as stated would happen on last week's podcast (6:45) and why he likes the King deal better. Then, somehow, the guys end up talking about when Aaron Rodgers could be on the way out and when Jordan Love gets the reigns (12:55). After that sidetrack, the guys get back to it and preview the corner position in the 2021 NFL Draft for the Packers (23:45). AJ brings up players with good production, MJ talks about the Georgia duo and a couple safeties for some reason, and Jake brings up the Packers athletic thresholds and why two corners might be the direction Green Bay goes in. If you want to listen to an odd finish to the podcast, listen past 47:33.
In this episode of The Gold Zone, AJ and Jake discuss the Green Bay Packers making a big splash before free agency begins, re-signing RB Aaron Jones to a 4 year, $48 million deal (0:51). In this episode of The Gold Zone, AJ, MJ, and Jake open with discussing JJ Watt heading to Arizona and why the price was too high for the Green Bay Packers to contend. Then, it's time to dive in to 2021 NFL Draft season! The Packers are projected to have around 3 compensatory selections, bringing their potential total to 10 picks in late April. The guys use the Pro Football Network simulator and all go through their own mock drafts! AJ starts things off (4:25) by addressing the secondary in round one, getting a potential Corey Linsley replacement in round two, and then adding a versatile piece to the defensive line in round three. He finishes up adding a couple more weapons and shocks the world with his fourth round pick. MJ is up next (14:31), selecting a top linebacker in the first round, then addressing the offense with his next two selections. He doubles up on corners on day three and adds a popular late round sleeper at running back. Jake finishes up the mock drafts (21:45) and also addresses the secondary early, and is sure to trigger some portion of the fanbase with his second round selection (22:25). He adds help to the offensive line in round three, and adds skill positions and an athletic linebacker on day three. Then, it's back to the JJ Watt debate, ranging from his asking price, to how Green Bay would shuffle priorities for him (22:10), to even Jake saying Watt would make the Browns a legit title contender. Also, Watt vs. Julius Peppers talk comes up. Finally, AJ gives his two FAs to bring back for the Packers and two players he'd sign during the free agency period (49:50).
The latest episode of The Gold Zone Podcast has MJ and Jake diving head first into the JJ Watt rumors and giving their thoughts on his game at this point in his career (1:00) and if they'd sign him. Then, it's a discussion involving who they'd rather sign/re-sign: Watt or Corey Linsley, and present arguments for each (17:15). Then it's on to the guys discussing two moves they'd make for the Packers internally (re-signing or putting a tender on) and externally in free agency (31:20). Subscribe and follow for more!!
In this "scuffed" episode of The Gold Zeon, AJ and Jake start things off talking about Aaron Rodgers winning his 3rd MVP (1:33) and how this Packers identity shifted from 2019 to 2020. Then, they discuss the underwhelming Super Bowl LV victory by the Bucs (10:15), talk about how well their defense played and who should have won MVP. Jake brings up the great job GM Jason Licht did in recent years, and they bring up how Green Bay might have been the second best team in football. To finish up (or at least they thought), AJ and Jake talk about recent 2021 mock drafts for the Packers (31:10) and how WR and CB are common projections for the Packers at 29, along with many FA decisions. MJ ends up joining mid show to talk the Super Bowl (37:10), then it's back to the draft. Jake proposes to the pod what they'd consider position-wise for the Packers at 29 (49:00) and the answers are a bit different.
In the latest episode of The Gold Zone podcast, AJ, MJ, and Jake first talk about end of year press conferences up at Lambeau Field (1:00), where Aaron Rodgers clearly isn't going anywhere for some time. GM Brian Gutekunst was clear that Rodgers is "absolutely" their quarterback right now and this team is still in it to win now. They then shift over to a quick talk about defensive coordinator interviews and who they'd like to see hired (15:00). Finally, it's Senior Bowl recap time!! AJ talks about his guy at QB Kellen Mond, and the guys go position-by-position based on the Packers needs: WR (23:20), LB (27:15), TE (34:08), OLine (38:00), DLine (43:15), and DBs (47:00). In this episode of The Gold Zone, AJ, MJ, and Jake recap what was a heart-wrenching loss for the Green Bay Packers to the Tampa Bay Bucs. They give their initial thoughts (0:55), talking about the key moments that shaped the game. They look back at the keys, and nearly everything happened that the guys said needed to for a win (8:05). The guys also talk about positives from the game (10:30), including the emergence of MVS, AJ Dillon's contribution, and another ridiculous Rodgers throw. Obviously, officiating was a story (18:10), and there were inconsistencies. There's no reason to blame the loss on that alone, but the inconsistency was stunning at the end. The other big controversy was covered well regarding Matt LaFleur's decision to kick (23:20), and AJ brings up a great perspective. The guys then talk biggest offseason need (31:50) and how Rodgers will indeed be back for 2021 (43:20). Like, subscribe, and follow for more offseason content coming soon!
