What do you expect the Pirates to do in the offseason? We want to see the Pirates be aggressive and actually do something. As Paul Skenes said, "talk is cheap." Pirates fans weigh in and are tired of hearing about players the Pirates could add, and want to see the Pirates add solid players.
Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani: What do you expect the Pirates to do in the offseason? We want to see the Pirates be aggressive and actually do something. As Paul Skenes said, "talk is cheap." James Franklin is officially the next head coach of Virginia Tech. Pitt has big games against Georgia Tech and Miami for a chance to play in the conference championship.
Pirates/Penguins reporter Jason Mackey from the PG joined the show. Jason confirmed that the Pirates did offer Josh Naylor a contract, but doesn't think Naylor was close to leaving Seattle. Jason thinks they will spend some money this off-season, but players like Naylor and Kyle Schwarber are probably too rich. Jason questioned why a free agent worth $30M/year would come to Pittsburgh. Jason believes it's ‘very possible' that Konnor Griffin begins the 2026 season on the Pirates roster as their starting shortstop. Jason thinks the Pirates payroll will be right around $100M, but doubts it gets any higher than that. Jason thinks Eugenio Suarez could be the big move of the off-season, coming off a 49 HR season.
Alert! Alert! We are only ONE WEEK away from Thanksgiving and only two of us are prepared! It's hard to believe that just 7 months ago, people were debating whether Cam Ward or Shadeur Sanders would go first in the draft and now, here we are in November and Shadeur is getting his first start for the Browns. :30- ICYMI: Jerry Dipoto Dipoto joined the show yesterday to give us the lowdown on the re-signing of Josh Naylor and whether or not they plan to keep Suarez and Polanco as well. :45- The Hawks may have a serious issue at guard and while the Titans should be a winnable game, we don't want to mess around with holes in the O-Line. - Headlines and Thursdays with SOFTY. When Softy joins the show, everything is on the table! From KJR sleepovers to re-signing Josh Naylor; that's how things start! Is it enough if the only moves the Mariners make this offseason are bringing back Naylor, Suarez and/or Polanco? The Dawgs head to the Rose Bowl to face UCLA on Saturday- can they figure out what they're doing on the road? When Sark says he's not going anywhere, does Softy believe him? :30- Steve Sarkisian is sick of the rumors that he's leaving Texas and he set the record straight. Do we believe him? :35- It's fact or fiction time and Bucky REALLY likes one game this week! :45- When Jerry joined us yesterday, he gave us some insight into which top prospects might play a prominent role on the 2026 Mariners team. Tim Dierkes, Steve Adams and Anthony Franco all join Darragh McDonald to discuss the site's annual Top 50 Free Agents list. Topics include how the threat of a lockout will affect free-agent contracts, if there's a team that will be willing to give Kyle Tucker a massive deal, the factors that could drive up Bo Bichette's price, how difficult it is to predict what Dylan Cease will sign for, what to make of Japanese stars Munetaka Murakami and Tatsuya Imai, if this will be the year that Cody Bellinger and Pete Alonso get huge deals, how the guys nailed the terms of Josh Naylor's contract, the best comps for Zac Gallen and Michael King, if teams will be able to overlook Devin Williams having poor ERA last year, if Robert Suarez can get a three-year deal going into his age-35 season, and the players with tough qualifying offer decisions.
Adam Crowley, Dorin Dickerson and Nicholas "Harry" Callas discuss how they want the Pirates to approach making signings in free agency this offseason.
Adam Crowley, Dorin Dickerson and Nicholas "Harry" review what MLB free agents the Pirates could realistically sign during this offseason.
Headlines and GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) Gregg brings us the latest 12th man news as we start looking ahead to Sunday's matchup with the Titans. What is the one thing the Seahawks need to do to get a W in Nashville? :30- Josh Naylor was the first big free agency signing of the offseason, will he get the Stove kickstarted? Hollander mentioned that the Mariners are still aiming to re-sign Polanco and Suarez as well. :35- Can Ashley get off the Fact or Fiction struggle bus? :45- It's time to get Reckless at Breakfast! What's up with college coaches seemingly being unhappy in great situations? Steve Sarkisian at Texas and Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss- those are two great situations and yet it seems like they're both looking elsewhere. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's humpday and time to look ahead to Sunday's Seahawks' game against the Titans. Is this a classic trap or let-down game for the Hawks, facing the 1-9 Titans? The Titans have played quite a few teams very close and Mike MacDonald's Seahawks' can not afford to lose this. :30- Josh Naylor's extension with the Mariners was announced yesterdays and if you didn't love Naylor before, you should definitely love him now! :45- The College football rankings are out and everyone is talking about Alabama and Notre Dame. How did things shake up in week 3? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and 12th Man News with GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) We start with an injury update on Grey Zabel and we did get some good news! Should we expect Zabel to play against the Titans on Sunday and how big of a loss is it to not have him on the field? Was this one bad game for Darnold or further proof that he can't step up in a big game? Did Gregg leave LA feeling better about the Seahawks or having more doubts? Will the Seahawks finally get Ken Walker more involved in the run-game? :30- Michael Penix Jr appears to have suffered a season-ending knee injury and the Falcons will now rely on Kirk Cousins. If he were available before the season ends, should they sit him anyway and focus on their draft position and his health for next year? Is Raheem Morris the right guy to lead this Falcons team? He is a defensive coach, can he navigate this Falcons team that has focused so heavily on offensive weapons? :35- It's Fact or Fiction time! :45- Clearly the Josh Naylor love for Seattle runs as deep as Seattle's love for Jimmy Naylz! RICK NEUHEISEL (CBS Sports) We've got quite the matchup this weekend as Washington faces the fighting Jerry Neuheisel's. Has Coach been giving tips to either team? The CFP rankings are updated tonight, how will things shake out? Now, how about those key college matchups awaiting us this weekend… And let's take a trip down memory lane… :30- The Ol' Judge is here; The honorable Bucknelius Cornhole the 104th! - This courtroom would be fine with Ben Williamson starting the season at 3rd base. - The next person who intentionally spits on another person should just be suspended for the rest of the season. - Enough is enough! Ken Walker is your starting RB, Zach Charbonnet is 2nd and then you can use Holani and others. :45- We close out Tuesday's show with one last thing! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's official, Josh Naylor and the Mariners inked a 5-year deal and we are pumped. It was a move that needed to happen for more than 1 reason and it's not very often that we get to celebrate big free-agent signing as Mariners fans. :30- It seems like people are suddenly panicking (over-reacting) about Sam Darnold after a bad game in LA on Sunday and yes, it was a bad game, but how worried are we that the Seahawks have the right guy for the job? - In Atlanta, they may have lost Michael Penix Jr for the season, can Cousins step up and how concerned should Falcons fans be about another knee injury? - It's a mess in Las Vegas, how panicked should they be about Geno Smith and Pete Carroll? :45- The College Football Playoff rankings get a refresh tonight, so how will things play out? Will Notre Dame keep climbing? Can Oklahoma jump them? How far will Alabama fall? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With the General Manager Meetings all wrapped up, the groundwork is being laid for what is sure to be a busy offseason. After the Los Angeles Dodgers captured back-to-back World Series titles, teams are aiming to knock them off their throne and every club has needs to make that happen. On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman take a look at all thirty MLB teams and determine what their main needs are this offseason. With teams like the Dodgers, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies all ready to spend money on high-priced free agents, how will they allocate their funds? What do teams in the middle—like the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs—do to try to close the gap?Later, Jake and Jordan ask big questions regarding Kyle Tucker and his pursuit of over $400 million, who will be the toughest to envision wearing a different uniform and which player the Dodgers will eventually acquire to annoy fans from other teams. They also dive into the Seattle Mariners re-signing Josh Naylor after his successful half-season with them.1:33 – The Opener: Naylor back to Seattle20:47 – Around the League: Needs for all 30 teams39:36 – What do the teams in the middle do?55:32 – Will smaller-market clubs spend?59:42 – Pressing questions for free agents1:14:55 – Field Report: Nats' new manager Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

The St. Louis Cardinals' rotation took hits in 2025, but with Chaim Bloom at the helm, it's time to get creative in free agency. Forget the mega-deals for aces like Dylan Cease— we're talking smart, affordable arms that can eat innings, stabilize the staff, and fit the Birds' rebuild-on-the-fly vibe. In this episode, we break down the bargain-bin pitchers who could be perfect fits without torching the payroll. Is Tyler Mahle the steal of the offseason? Can Zach Eflin bounce back from injury? And does a vet like Charlie Morton make sense for depth?
The Los Angeles Dodgers made a trade on Sunday, although not one of the big-name trades we're expecting this offseason. Robinson Ortiz, who was just added to LA's 40-man roster a couple weeks ago, was shipped to Seattle for Tyler Gough, a young pitcher who doesn't need to be on the 40. Jeff Snider and Clint Pasillas are here to talk about this trade and the 40-man roster in general, leading up to Tuesday's deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft. Meanwhile, free agent Dodger favorite Kiké Hernandez had surgery on his ailing left elbow and will miss the World Baseball Classic next spring because of it. Will it affect his free agency? And speaking of free agency, first baseman Josh Naylor is signing a five-year deal to stay with the Mariners, the first big signing of this Hot Stove Season. Let's dig into all of it!
