Welcome to the Line of Scrimmage, offseason edition, where we'll carve out time to dive into the recruiting classes of a select few upcoming Florida State football opponents. To kick things off, we'll revisit Zachary Junda and the LSU faithful from our sister SBNation site, And The Valley Shook. Zach joined us last season prior to Florida State's cardiac arrest-inducing victory over the Tigers. While we touch on the game, we take time to focus on how the 2023 recruiting and transfer classes shaped up for the LSU Tigers. The Tigers finished with sixth overall combined class, according to the composite rankings, managing to add players coveted by top programs from around the country at key positions in the high school ranks while also filling the positions of need in the transfer portal. In this debut episode of the Line of Scrimmage's offseason edition, we take a look at how second-year head coach Brian Kelly and his staff combined the experience of recruiting nationally at Notre Dame with the advantage of being the lone football powerhouse in the state to land one of the top classes in the nation. Some of the questions and topics touched on: Overall grade for Brian Kelly's first year at the helm What can LSU expect from their two top commits from each side of the ball — offensive tackle Zalance Heard and defensive end Dashawn Womack, both 5 stars? Which positional need did Kelly address the best? And what still is a concern? Who are some other players to highlight from the 2023 class? Of the new crowded secondary room, which of these players have the most likely path to starting for LSU? Did the Tigers address the concerns they had in the defensive trenches? What were some of the biggest hits LSU took in portal departures? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Perfect game, set, match. Florida State Seminoles softball, the No. 3 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, came into Sunday with a 2-0 record in the Tallahassee Regional, facing off against the South Carolina Gamecocks after taking down Marist and UCF. South Carolina managed to snag a win in the final, setting up a Game 2 that provided a platform for Kathryn Sandercock to etch her name in the Florida State record books. For the first time in Seminoles softball history, a pitcher threw a perfect game in a postseason matchup — and FSU earned its spot in the school's 10th Super Regional all-time. What led up to the historic moment? On the latest edition of the Seminole Softball Wrap, Brian Pellerin and Gwyn Rhodes break down the weekend, from Florida State's regional-opening run-rule win to its heart-stopping clincher vs. the Gamecocks on Sunday. 2024 positional introductions continue with the tight ends. Everyone knows Brock Bowers is the consensus TE1, but how does he compare to Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts? Is he on the same plateau as Pitts as a prospect? Which prospects should be viewed as "challengers"? DP drops an interesting comp for Florida State's Jaheim Bell! DP and Keith have some names that everyone should wake up and stop sleeping on in this tight-end class. All of this and more, tune in. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In case you forgot, Mike Norvell is the transfer portal king — Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles have consistently shown they'll upgrade their roster by any means. Today, FSU landed a major addition in former Michigan State standout wide receiver Keon Coleman. The highly-sought transfer, whose birthday is today, announced that he's headed to Tallahassee. If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because Coleman was a favorite among the Three Stars at Tomahawk Nation during the 2021 recruiting cycle. Coleman originally chose the Spartans over 42 other offers. This time around, Coleman chose the Seminoles over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Louisville Cardinals, North Carolina Tar Heels, Oklahoma Sooners, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans, among others. Tim, Josh, and David are here to break it all down for you in the latest edition of the Florida State of Recruiting podcast. What does Coleman's addition mean for FSU? Where does he fit best in the offense? How might this impact recruiting for 2024 and beyond? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Pat Burnham and Charles Fishbein react to JUCO DB Ashlynd Barker picking FSU over Oregon State and others. The #Noles get some safety depth and the guys touch on other recruiting updates.
Coleman chose to commit for the next 8-9 months while not wearing a shirt and Michigan State basketball shorts.

TalkSports 5-16 HR 2: Florida State Wants More Money Than Syracuse by FOX Sports Knoxville
The Florida State Seminoles seem to have a boatload of offensive firepower at their disposal and, this week, the rich got richer with the addition of 2021 blue-chip wide receiver Destyn Hill. The former top 150 recruit was part of the 2021 recruiting class but didn't make it to campus... that is until now. In this episode of the Seminole Wrap podcast, Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio take a look at what he can add to this skill player group plus a look into some new post-spring football power rankings from ESPN and USA Today that are only going to drive the Florida State hype train for 2023 up a notch. Also, FSU athletic director Michael Alford spent the weekend again talking about the need for change in the ACC's revenue structure — something he did two months ago on the show — before he heads to the ACC spring meetings this week. The show dives into what leverage Alford and his fellow ACC members have to get the deal done. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
FOX Sports' lead college football analyst Joel Klatt reveals his post-spring Top 25 rankings for the upcoming college football season. With several top teams still sorting out their QB situations, Joel breaks down why he still has faith in teams like Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama to stay at the top while Michigan finds itself with the luxury of a very experienced returning roster. He also dives into why he is encouraged by what is happening at USC and Clemson but offers caution for a program like Florida State who is coming off a surprising 10-win season. Texas and Oklahoma also find places in his Top 25 as they look to reclaim their spots at the top of the Big 12. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
With a sweep through the ACC Tournament including a thrilling walk-off win over the Duke Blue Devils in the title game, the Florida State softball team (50-8, 22-2 ACC) stacked another accolade to its already stellar season, with Kat Sandercock starring in each of Florida State's victories over the Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and Duke to claim the ACC Tournament MVP. Those wins, along with the Seminoles' 2023 overall resume, earned Florida State the overall No. 3 national seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament and the opportunity to host the Tallahassee Regional. The opponents standing in the path of a Super Regional berth for FSU? The South Carolina Gamecocks, UCF Knights and Marist Red Hawks. In this episode of the Seminole Softball Wrap, Gwyn Rhodes and Brian Pellerin breakdown their biggest takeaways from the championship weekend in South Bend, preview each of the teams destined for Tally this weekend, look ahead to what they could face in the next round if they advance that far and breakdown some of the biggest surprises in the tournament field. Destyn Hill made it to Florida State at long last. The saga spanned nearly three years from the time he silently committed to FSU and was one of the longest, most improbable recruiting developments we've ever covered. Zach Blostein and Brendan Sonnone break down his arrival to FSU, his projected role with the Seminoles, and try to grasp the fever dream of a recruitment. We then delve into what's next at safety after Jaylen Key picks Alabama over FSU, and get into a lengthy discussion with Keon Coleman and how we think that recruitment shakes out. Coming off their first 10-win season since 2016 Florida State football is trending in the right direction under Mike Norvell. With QB Jordan Travis returning along with several other key starters, JT Sports explains why the 2023 College Football Season could be the Florida State Seminoles' statement year. It seems like every year the Texas Longhorns have lofty expectations that they seem to never be able to meet. The 2023 College Football season could be different though as the Longhorns return 9 starters on offense and 6 on defense. With a talented WR room, and Quinn Ewers entering his second season with Texas, could the Longhorns potentially live up to the hype this season? Everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong for Texas A&M football in 2022. With lackluster offense and incompetent QB, the Texas A&M offense was dreadful forcing Jimbo Fisher to hire offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino to fix the Aggies offense. Will the hiring of Bobby Petrino help fix the Aggies' offense and right the ship? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jtsports/support

The Florida State softball team has become the ACC regular season champions for the first time since 2019, and in a dominant fashion. The Seminoles swept six of the eight conference series and finished three games ahead of Duke in the ACC standings. In this week's episode of the Seminole Softball Wrap, Gwyn Rhodes and Brian Pellerin reflect on the team's progress throughout the season, their path ahead in the ACC Tournament, and any lingering uncertainties about the team. One question concerns who will step up as the team's top starter, besides Makenna and Kat. LSU Football exceeded expectations in Brian Kelly's first season by winning nine regular season games, taking down rivals Alabama Crimson Tide, and winning the SEC West for a chance to compete in the SEC Championship. When the clock hit triple zeroes on Florida State's 35-32 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cheez-It Bowl capping off their first 10-win season since 2016, high expectations for 2023 started to be formed. With announcements to return to school from Jordan Travis, Fabien Lovett, Jared Verse, and others, those expectations boiled over. In ESPN writer Mark Schlabach's Way-Too-Early rankings from January 9, the Noles were No. 4 behind only the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Michigan Wolverines. According to DraftKings, Florida State has the 7th best odds to win the 2023 national championship (+1800), behind Georgia (+230), Alabama (+500), Ohio State (+700), Michigan (+900), USC (+1400) and LSU (+1600). But now some of ESPN's more analytics-based projection systems appear to be tempering some of those expectations. ESPN's SP+ rankings have Florida State at No. 11 in the country and consider FSU's ceiling to be 11-1 and floor to be 8-4, with a 19% chance of finishing 11-1 or better. Its FPI rankings have FSU at No. 14, with a 17% chance of winning the ACC, 4.4% chance at making the playoffs, 1% at making the national championship and 0.2% at winning the title. On this week's episode, the Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio — discuss their thoughts on those projections and where they fall on Florida State's prospects in the fall, as well as thoughts on a new wave of transfers leaving the program. Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer announced on Tuesday that he plans to enter the Transfer Portal. The promising defender is not in the Portal as of Wednesday morning. This episode of On The Bench is dedicated primarily to unpacking the Farmer Saga as we try to make sense of what's happening, why it's happened, and what could still happen. We go big picture on Portal recruiting vs. prep recruiting, the possible fallout for FSU if Farmer leaves (does Darrell Jackson go with him) and more. Then wrap things up with a poorly-done draft game for FSU's 2024 recruiting class.
