Doch besonders Windräder sind höchst umstritten: Viele Griechinnen und Griechen glauben gar an kriminelle Machenschaften der Energiefirmen. Griechenland ist vielen anderen Ländern in Sachen erneuerbare Energie voraus. Und die Regierung hat weiter grosse Pläne. «Wir wollen nicht nur unseren eigenen Bedarf decken, sondern auch große Mengen an grüner Energie ins Ausland exportieren», sagt der zuständige Minister. Während jedoch Solaranlagen bei der Bevölkerung durchaus gut ankommen, sind Windparks oft umstritten. Umweltorganisationen und Bürgerinitiativen wehren sich gegen Grossprojekte. Und viele Leute verdächtigen die Grosskonzerne, sie würden extra Waldbrände legen, um weitere Windparks aufstellen zu können. Ein Vorwurf, den die Firmen vehement dementieren. Um die Akzeptanz von Windenergie zu steigern, gibt es aber auch alternative Wege. So etwa, wenn nicht Grosskonzerne die Anlagen bauen, sondern Genossenschaften, die von Anwohnerinnen und Anwohnern selbst getragen werden. So möchte es auch die Genossenschaft «Minoan Energy» auf Kreta machen, die momentan mit ihren Photovoltaik-Anlagen Strom für mehr als 1200 Mitglieder liefert und bald auch gerne in Windräder investieren würde. Griechenland hat bei den erneuerbaren Energien eine Vorreiterrolle inne. Aber gesichert ist diese Position nicht - die Ängste und Sorgen der Bevölkerung müssen immer wieder ausgeräumt werden.
