Today's guest is Jay DeMayo, Jay is the longtime strength coach for men's basketball at the University of Richmond and the founder of CVASPS—the Central Virginia Sport Performance Seminar. He's known for connecting top minds in sport science and coaching, and for his practical, athlete-first approach to physical preparation. Where the emphasis of an athletic performance program can easily be centered from a narrow perspective, Jay considers a wide variety of inputs, from an athlete's underlying structure and positional abilities to their perception of workout adjustments, to specialized exercises and technical training elements. In this episode, Jay digs into the principles he uses to prepare athletes for the demands of the game. From a foundational perspective, he discusses building work capacity and progressing split squats. On the power side, he shares his take on Olympic lifts and French Contrast training, while also addressing the role of autonomy and individualization in his approach. Throughout the show, Jay unpacks practical tools and coaching strategies that drive long-term athletic development. Today's episode is brought to you by Hammer Strength. Jay reflects on how older training styles—like Westside—can still have value when creatively repurposed. It's not about mimicking those programs but about borrowing what drives athlete engagement and technical mastery today. What to try: Use methods like box squats to teach depth and posture before progressing to more dynamic movements. Connect the dots for athletes: show how learning positions now sets them up for more “fun” or explosive lifts later. Reinforce that mastering basic postures unlocks more advanced training, not just better numbers. Unveiling Louis Simmons' Strength Training Insights [11:01] Jay highlights lessons from studying Louie Simmons—not for copying his powerlifting templates, but to appreciate mastery and intention. Athletes need to understand why they're training a certain way, not just how. What to try: Share stories or videos of experts from outside your sport to spark discussions about mastery and approach. Ask athletes to reflect on what "winning" a lift means to them—focus, technique, or load? Create reflective moments for athletes to assess their own intent during sessions. Enhancing Basketball Players' Performance Through Tailored Training [14:24] Forget rigid metrics for the sake of numbers. Jay focuses on using basic force plate data (jump height + contraction time) to guide individual exercise choices—not to chase numbers, but to fit each athlete's needs. What to try: Test vertical jump and contraction time; use results to bucket athletes into fast/slow jumpers. Prescribe exercises accordingly:

QFF: Quick Fire Friday – Your 20-Minute Growth Powerhouse! Welcome to Quick Fire Friday, the Grow A Small Business podcast series that is designed to deliver simple, focused and actionable insights and key takeaways in less than 20 minutes a week. Every Friday, we bring you business owners and experts who share their top strategies for growing yourself, your team and your small business. Get ready for a dose of inspiration, one action you can implement and quotable quotes that will stick with you long after the episode ends! In this episode of Quick Fire Friday, host Rob Cameron speaks with Rick Calabrese, a specialist in business valuation and owner of Commonwealth M&A. Rick delves into the critical role of professional valuations for small business owners, particularly those in the lower middle market with revenues ranging from $5 million to $100 million. He explains why business value is often an intangible asset that requires expert assessment. Rick also highlights common factors that impact valuations, such as heavy owner involvement and customer concentration. Sharing insights from his firm's track record—successfully selling seven businesses in just two and a half years—he underscores the importance of strengthening operational systems, refining financial metrics, and building a trusted team of advisors. Ultimately, Rick emphasizes that thoughtful preparation and a clear plan are essential to achieving a successful business exit. Key Takeaways for Small Business Owners: Get a Professional Valuation: Your business is likely your largest asset, yet its value is often intangible. Engage valuation specialists to understand its true worth, especially before planning an exit. Reduce Owner Dependence: Businesses that are overly reliant on the owner are harder to sell. Build strong teams and systems so the company can thrive without you. The most attractive businesses are often run by owners who can afford to be on vacation. Diversify Your Customer Base: Avoid heavy customer concentration. Buyers see too much revenue tied to a few clients as a risk. Broaden your client mix and aim for recurring revenue streams. Our hero crafts outstanding reviews following the experience of listening to our special guests. Are you the one we've been waiting for? Plan Early & Be Patient: Preparing for a sale can take years. Strengthen operations, improve financial metrics, and update valuations regularly so you're ready when the time—and the market—is right. Build a Trusted Deal Team: Selling a business isn't like selling a house. Surround yourself with experienced advisors—specialist lawyers, CPAs, and M&A experts—to guide you through this complex process. Understand the Buyer's Perspective: Buyers focus on risk, stability, and future cash flows. Position your business as a predictable, systematized operation to command a premium price. One action small business owners can take: According to Rick Calabrese, one action a small business owner should take is to reduce owner dependence by building strong teams and systems—so the business can operate smoothly without them, making it far more attractive and valuable to future buyers. The US Senate passed legislation to enshrine an unsustainable fiscal position into law. The bill goes to the House, where it may run into difficulties. Some fiscal conservatives are unhappy with the unsustainable part of US fiscal policy. Markets are not likely to react to squabbles over details—unsustainable US fiscal policy is well understood, and the economic effects of redistributing from lower income to higher income households will take time to emerge.

One in five couples report that porn has become a problem in their relationship. So why is porn such a common source of conflict, and what can we do about it? In today's show, we're going to explore how many people in relationships use porn, what fights about porn are really about, as well as how to resolve issues with porn in relationships. In this episode of the Sarah Fraser Show, I had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Morris Waxler, a former FDA doctor who was instrumental in the approval of LASIK eye surgery in the late 90s but now deeply regrets that decision. Dr. Waxler shared alarming insights about the serious complications that can arise from LASIK, including severe pain and even suicide, as seen in tragic cases like that of a young police officer named Ryan. We discussed the misleading statistics presented by the FDA regarding patient satisfaction and the lack of transparency from LASIK surgeons about the risks involved. Dr. Waxler's mission is to warn potential patients to think twice before undergoing this procedure, emphasizing the importance of informed consent and seeking evaluations from independent ophthalmologists. In episode 711, Megan chats to Candice Ward about smart and actionable strategies for content creators looking to work with brands in the ever-evolving 2025 landscape. Candice is a food photographer that has worked with brands like Crisco, In the Raw Sugar, Stone Wall Kitchen, Eagle Brand Milk and more. She is also a strategy and monetization coach for food bloggers and content creators that spent a decade in sales at Fortune 500 Companies, hitting massive quotas. Candice founded The Confident Pitch Program, helping hundreds of content creators monetize and scale their business strategically so they have more time to focus on being creative. She teaches a pitching method that has allowed her to make a full time income on a 10 hour work week, take 1 month off to travel with her family and have creative freedom to only say yes to clients that are in alignment with her brand. She lives in Seattle, WA with her husband and 2 boys. In this episode, you'll learn how to approach brands, pitch confidently, and stay relevant in a market that's moving away from traditional influencer metrics. Key points discussed include: - Brands want long-term relationships: Say goodbye to one-off deals—brands are now investing in ongoing partnerships with creators. - Small creators are thriving: You don't need a huge following to land a brand deal; engagement and value matter more. - Pitch with purpose: Stand out by sending customized, value-driven pitches rather than generic emails. - Leverage your strengths: Whether it's your blog, email list, or YouTube channel, focus on where you already perform well. - Position your offer strategically: Think beyond photos and blog posts—offer digital products, memberships, or UGC services. - Evolve with AI in mind: Adapt your messaging and brand collaborations to reflect a world influenced by AI tools and expectations. - Go beyond social media: Brands are hungry for access to niche audiences outside of the algorithm-heavy platforms. - Think like a marketer: Understand what brands need, and position yourself as the creator who can deliver results. Ryan opens up about his nine-year journey of building the wrong kind of video business and his recent pivot toward creating something sellable. He shares candid insights about hitting seven figures, the challenges since 2020, and why he's now focused on packages over custom work while addressing a filmmaker's concerns about AI taking over the industry. Key Takeaways Building a business that can run without you creates more freedom than being the indispensable creative at the center of everything Package-based services with predictable pricing are more scalable and sellable than endless custom projects Position yourself as a strategic partner who offers workshops and thinking partnership, not just shooting and editing services AI won't replace filmmakers who differentiate themselves through strategy, storytelling, and client partnership rather than just technical execution In This Episode [00:00] Welcome to the show! I always thought freedom meant doing everything myself, being the creative, the editor, the salesperson and the project manager." - Ryan "If the only thing that you're offering is showing up for somebody and filming B-roll type stuff and just following the directions that somebody has for you, it's going to be really easy for that same client to have a machine follow directions for them." - Ryan "If you're positioning yourself as shooter editor, that's not as compelling and that's not as helpful for a client that needs somebody that understands more, that understands how marketing works or why it works." - Ryan "We just landed a $20,000 gig a couple of weeks ago with a client that wanted to spend $5,000... I somehow talked them into doing this workshop, a paid workshop that was going to take half of the budget that they had set aside." - Ryan "I still believe that this work is so powerful. Lumber is revolutionizing how construction companies manage their workforce through a comprehensive back-office automation platform. With over $21 million in funding, the company is addressing critical challenges in an industry where 41% of the workforce will retire by 2031, leaving a massive knowledge and labor gap. In this episode of Category Visionaries, we spoke with Shreesha Ramdas, CEO and Co-Founder of Lumber, about his journey from serving the tech industry to tackling one of the most transformation-resistant sectors in the economy. Topics Discussed: Lumber's origin from 200+ customer discovery interviews with construction firms The company's focus on back-office automation versus field management Lumber's multi-channel marketing strategy emphasizing events and content The challenge of change management in construction technology adoption How AI is creating new opportunities to modernize legacy workflows The company's vision of building a knowledge graph for construction workers GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Lead with value in customer discovery, not just research requests: Shreesha hired an SDR to set up 200 meetings with construction firms, but didn't just ask for their time. Instead, he offered concrete value - either an industry best practices guide or one year of free service if they helped shape the product. This approach appealed to early innovators who wanted to be part of industry transformation. B2B founders should always answer "what's in it for them" before asking prospects to invest their time in discovery conversations. Events require 60-day pre-and-post commitment for success: Lumber generates 30% of its leads from industry events, but Shreesha emphasizes that showing up isn't enough. They start outreach two months before events, targeting previous attendees with promotional activities like free tickets or after-party invitations. During events, they focus on booking demos on-site rather than leaving follow-ups to chance. Post-event, they dedicate 60 days to aggressive follow-up because "those leads age faster than anything else." B2B founders should treat events as 4-month campaigns, not 2-day activities. Use AI to solve change management challenges, not just productivity: Rather than forcing manual timesheet users to adopt mobile apps, Lumber uses AI to digitize handwritten timesheets with 94% accuracy. This eliminates the change management barrier while gradually transitioning users to digital workflows. Shreesha noted that change management is "the toughest thing about construction industry" because workers are focused on building, not adopting new tools. B2B founders in traditional industries should use AI as a bridge between old and new workflows rather than demanding immediate behavioral change. Position against established category leaders, not alongside them: Lumber deliberately positions itself as the "back office" solution while Procore owns the "field management" category. Shreesha explained that back offices are "always thinly staffed" but "always overwhelmed" with regulatory compliance, payroll complexity, and worker management. Rather than competing directly with Procore's field focus, they created their own category serving CFOs, controllers, and payroll admins. B2B founders should identify underserved buyer personas adjacent to established categories rather than trying to displace category leaders directly. Leverage vertical AI opportunities to rewrite industry rules: Shreesha sees AI as the reason construction tech is finally attracting significant investment. The key is using AI to "rewrite the existing rules" rather than just digitizing current processes. For construction, this means taking workflows that have been manual for decades and reimagining them entirely. B2B founders should look for AI applications that fundamentally change how work gets done in their vertical, not just make existing work more efficient. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. Jeff Mans is back with an episode almost entirely devoted to something few basic fantasy football players think about: Draft Position. Suppose you have ever wondered what the best draft pick position to select from in your fantasy drafts is; then this is the episode for you. First, Jeff takes us through the first two rounds of selections according to average draft position (ADP) and asks which player pairings are the best. Next, he reveals his updated rankings from Fantasy Guru dot com and looks at which player pairings are the best in his own mind. Then he plugs in his formula, which he is calling “PADs,” to reveal which draft position this year has the best players available in the first and second rounds. These results will surprise you, but also make sense once you look at the names that are on the board at the time of those selections. Mans also has some choice words for Fanduel, which has changed their terms and conditions after Fantasy Guru members and other MLB bettors took them for over $2 million in one night of betting this week.
