Im aktuellen Podcast spreche ich mit Philipp Raasch, dem Kopf hinter Der Autopreneur. Philipp beschreibt sich selbst als Analyst für den Wandel der Automobilindustrie. Seit seinem Schritt aus dem Konzern – er war zuvor bei Mercedes tätig – arbeitet er selbstständig und veröffentlicht jede Woche drei Newsletter, einen Podcast, ein YouTube-Video und täglich Beiträge auf LinkedIn. Sein Fokus liegt klar auf B2B: Fach- und Führungskräfte in der Automobilbranche. Er sagt dazu: „Ich mache ausschließlich Business Dynamics – keine Consumer News.“ Genau dieses Profil macht ihn für viele Entscheider zur relevanten Stimme im Markt. Im Gespräch wurde schnell klar, wie sehr sich die Branche verändert und welche Themen seine Community beschäftigen. Philipp sortiert Entwicklungen im größeren Zusammenhang: „Ich beschäftige mich eigentlich mit dem, was mich selber interessiert – und meistens trifft das den Zeitgeist.“ Die großen Linien fasst er mit seinem Modell der „3 plus 1 Transformationen“ zusammen: Elektrifizierung, Software, autonomes bzw. KI-gesteuertes Fahren – und als vierte Ebene der kulturelle Wandel in den Unternehmen. Gerade dieser kulturelle Shift sei aktuell entscheidend, weil die Technologie allein nicht die größte Hürde darstellt. Wir tauschen uns darüber aus, wie stark sich europäische Hersteller schwer tun, ihre Position im globalen Wettbewerb zu halten. Philipp ordnet ein, dass die aktuelle Krise vor allem in China ausgelöst wurde. Dort haben lokale Marken inzwischen knapp 70 Prozent Marktanteil gewonnen – auf Kosten internationaler Hersteller. „Das ist der Grund, warum wir hier über Werkschließungen und Stellenabbau sprechen. Der Ground Zero ist China.“ Nach seiner Einschätzung sind die verlorenen Marktanteile in China kaum zurückzuholen. Stattdessen gehe es dort nun darum, eine Nische zu finden und über Partnerschaften – insbesondere im Bereich Software, ADAS und Elektromobilität – technologisch wieder anzuschließen. In Europa sieht Philipp die Lage ebenfalls angespannt. Die zentrale Frage: Wie reagiert man auf den zunehmenden Wettbewerb aus Asien? Er hält protektionistische Maßnahmen für wahrscheinlich, auch wenn diese schmerzhaft wären. Denn offene Märkte führten zwangsläufig zu ähnlichen Verschiebungen wie in China. Der europäische Wettbewerb müsse sich darauf einstellen, dass chinesische Hersteller „gute Technologie zu einem unschlagbaren Preis“ anbieten. Wir sprechen außerdem über die Frage, ob es sinnvoll ist, weiter auf zwei technologische Plattformen – Verbrenner und Elektromobilität – zu setzen. Philipp beschreibt die Situation als echtes Management-Dilemma. Beide Wege sind riskant, beide kosten Geld. Unternehmen müssten gleichzeitig globale Märkte bedienen, die sich unterschiedlich schnell entwickeln. In seinen Worten: „Es gibt keine gute Entscheidung. Alles ist eine Wette auf die Zukunft.“ Eine wichtige Rolle schreibt Philipp der Politik zu. Er widerspricht klar der oft geforderten Technologieoffenheit: „Wenn du mich fragst, ist das kompletter Bullshit.“ Länder wie China oder die USA agieren mit einer klaren industriepolitischen Agenda – und Europa fehle genau diese strategische Perspektive. Statt langfristiger Ziele sehe er in Deutschland vor allem kurzfristige Maßnahmen. Notwendig sei jedoch eine europäische Lösung, kein nationaler Alleingang: „Nur im Verbund können wir global überhaupt auf Augenhöhe auftreten.“ Nun aber genug der Vorrede – lass uns direkt ins Gespräch einsteigen.

A lot has changed during Sara Nelson’s time in Seattle government. She was a centrist outlier on a progressive city council when she was first elected in 2021. But the dynamics changed: Nelson became the center of power, and ended up running the show as council president, after a moderate slate of candidates swept the 2023 election. She helped oversee pandemic-era recovery, worked with two different mayoral administrations and two very different presidential administrations during her time on the council. Now - her time in office is coming to an end. Next month, there will be a new, more progressive representative in the citywide Position 9 seat that Nelson’s held the past four years. Nonprofit leader Dionne Foster will take Nelson’s place after winning by a wide margin of votes in November. Between passing a police contract, approving phase one of the city’s Comprehensive Plan, and putting forward a bill to change how consultants work with the city – Nelson has been busy during her last month in office. Wir müssen uns wieder bewusst Zeit nehmen, präsent zu sein, in Begegnungen aufmerksam zuzuhören und die wirklich wichtigen Dinge in unserem Leben nicht von Dringlichkeiten überlagern zu lassen. Mindsetcoaching spielt hierbei eine zentrale Rolle, weil wir durch bewusste Reflexion, Selbstverantwortung und Selbstfürsorge unsere innere Lebensqualität nachhaltig steigern können. Ich thematisiere auch, wie oft wir funktionieren, eine Maske tragen und uns an äußeren Statussymbolen orientieren, anstatt authentisch und echt zu leben. Die Wahrheit ist, dass Besitz, Status oder Position uns langfristig nicht glücklich machen – es kommt darauf an, wer wir ohne all das sind. Kentucky’s Glendale Blue Oval Plant near Elizabethtown—once promised to employ 5,000 workers—has laid off all 1,500 current employees indefinitely. “Ford takes a 19 and a half billion dollars write down on their EV business,” Mike Johnson reported. “Essentially they are getting away from full-size electric vehicles.” Tom Dupree had predicted this outcome over a year ago: “I think it might be that guy named Tom Dupree who said a year and a half ago that that thing would never happen.” Government Mandates vs. Market Demand The Blue Oval failure illustrates a critical investment principle: government subsidies create artificial markets that collapse when support ends. “All of this was coming from government mandates. This was not driven by market demand for electric vehicles,” Mike explained. “The demand was not there because the infrastructure is not there yet. Toyota,” Mike noted. “Toyota was focusing on hybrid. That was their core focus. From Battery Hype to AI Hype: History Repeating? The 18-Month Investment Shift “A year and a half ago it was all about batteries,” Tom observed. “Look up some of these battery stocks, James. I bet a lot of ’em are just in the doldrums.” The investment landscape shifted with stunning speed from battery plant euphoria to AI infrastructure mania. The question: is AI different, or are investors making the same mistake twice? Inside Dupree Financial Group’s Data Center Research James Dupree coordinates research for the firm’s six-person investment committee, scheduling calls with company management and conducting initial analysis. The entire committee recently participated in a research call with Applied Digital, a data center developer leasing facilities to tech giants. “We talked about Applied Digital on the last show,” James explained. “They’re the data center landlord. They build and rent out the data centers.” The Hyperscaler Spending Analysis James’s research revealed critical distinctions between sustainable AI investment and dangerous speculation. “The first thing that the guy showed us was he pulled up a list of the hyperscalers—Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Oracle, OpenAI, all these guys,” James reported. “And he was showing their sales and then he told us how much they’re gonna spend.” James’s assessment: “Amazon good, Microsoft good, Meta okay—they’re kind of getting on that bubble where they’re spending a little bit too much. Meta does 160 billion in sales and they’re supposed to spend 70 billion,” James detailed. “And then where it really gets dicey is Oracle. They do 50 billion in sales and they’re supposed to spend 500 billion. So that’s a red alert there.” This granular analysis—comparing capital spending to revenue—separates professional investment management from amateur speculation chasing headlines. Data Centers: Real Demand or Another Subsidy Bubble? The Power Shortage Reality Unlike EVs, data centers address a genuine infrastructure shortage: 40-90 gigawatts of power capacity needed in the United States. What makes data centers potentially valuable: Legitimate power shortage driving demand Long-term triple-net leases (Applied Digital secured 15-year, $11 billion lease) Potential conversion to REITs for steady income The critical risk—chip obsolescence: “Inside that data center, you’ll literally have $3 billion in chips in that building,” Mike explained. “And right now we don’t know exactly what the useful life of those chips are. Who’s gonna take the liability if these things only have a use life of three years instead of five years?” Government Involvement: Red Flag or Validation? James reported recent news about Core Weave, Applied Digital’s anchor tenant: “Core Weave had some big news today. That stock’s up 23% on the news. The government came out and said that they would be a part of a program related to energy, so the government’s backing that company.” But Tom immediately questioned the parallel to Ford’s disaster: “I kind of have a problem with governments picking winners and losers. It was all just hype.” Historic bubbles Tom has witnessed: Dot-com crash (2000-2002) Housing bubble (2008) Battery/EV hype (2022-2024) Potentially: AI overinvestment (2024-?) The “Bigger Money, Bigger Dummies” Principle Tom’s most provocative observation challenges assumptions about tech giant spending: “If the seven largest companies are putting all this money in it, do you think they’re gonna go to zero? No, but the bigger the money, the bigger the dummies sometimes,” Tom warned. “They follow each other. If so-and-so’s doing it, we gotta do it. That’s FOMO.
