Welcome to the newest season of Talk N' Docs! In this season Jenny, Logan and Cowboy will be focusing on documentaries associated with natural disasters. They open the season with a review of Spike Lee's "Katrina: Come Hell and High Water". This is a three-part film released on Netflix in August '25 that chronicles life in New Orleans before, during and after Hurricane Katrina. With incredible first-person footage and accounts from survivors, this is a heart wrenching story of tragedy and a broken system. It also is ultimately a story of perseverance and hope in the face in the most horrible of situations. While this won't be a "fun" watch, it is an important one. We encourage you to join the Talk'n Docs crew as they take you through the story.

Season 7, Episode 17 kicks off with Dan Fox and Frank Knight ringing in the New Year with a special guest appearance from Tyler, plus the usual basement-studio banter and word-policing: it's “Happy New Year,” not “Happy New Year's,” and Frank is prepared to die on that hill. With Allen Action Jackson out for the night, the crew leans into a lighter opening, Raiders misery, owner jokes, and a quick check-in on the Colts' season collapse, including how offensive line injuries can turn a contender into a cautionary tale. From there, Frank unveils a mini trivia game that instantly becomes an on-air struggle for Dan, until Tyler and Brian (in the background) step in as lifelines. Highlights include the revelation that there are seven NFL officials on the field, old-school quarterback history featuring Terry Bradshaw, a “slow 40-yard dash” trick question that lands on Tom Brady, and the ultimate completions milestone: Brett Favre as the lone member of the 6,000-completion club. The group caps trivia with a bonus stumper: which current head coach rushed for more yards than Bo Jackson? (Jim Harbaugh—quarterback legs count too.)Then the show turns serious with a full recap of Week 17, starting with the Christmas Day slate and rolling through the weekend's games, playoff implications, and draft-position drama:Key Week 17 takeaways:Cowboys over Washington (30–23), a win Dan will take, even if it doesn't prove much.Vikings shock Lions (23–10), officially knocking Detroit out of playoff contention and forcing a full offseason reset.Broncos handle the broken Chiefs (20–13), but Dan remains skeptical that Bo Nix can carry them beyond the AFC Championship tier.Texans over Chargers (20–16), another defensive showcase that reinforces Houston as a legitimate January problem.Browns upset Steelers (13–6) in a game that exposed Pittsburgh's offensive limitations—especially without DK Metcalf.Patriots crush Jets (42–10), as New England continues to look like a real contender.Saints beat Titans (34–26), with New Orleans' quarterback trendline still pointing up.Jaguars stay hot at Colts (23–17), while Indy's year continues to unravel.Dolphins upset Bucs (20–17), leading to a blunt discussion of Todd Bowles and Tampa's lack of consistency.Seahawks take care of Panthers (27–10), with the group agreeing Seattle's ceiling depends entirely on whether “Bad Sam Darnold” shows up at the wrong moment.Bengals torch Cardinals (37–14), followed by more pointed commentary on Joe Burrow's public frustration and what responsibility looks like when you're the face of the franchise.Giants destroy Raiders (34–10) in the “draft-position bowl,” flipping the spotlight to how teams behave when the No. 1 pick is on the line—and how ugly it can look in real time.Eagles edge Bills (13–12) in a messy, rain-soaked game that felt like a potential Super Bowl preview.49ers survive Bears in a late shootout, with Chicago nearly stealing it on the final play.As always, the episode balances serious football analysis with the crew's trademark sarcasm, plus a running thread of frustration about teams that look like they're “managing outcomes” late in the season, whether for seeding, health, or draft position.Special Thanks to:Fox Brothers Alarms - https://foxbrothersalarms.comFirst Baptist church of Phillipsburg NJ http://www.fbcpburg.org/

Visit https://teachhoops.com/ for resources specifically designed to help aspiring and current assistant coaches develop their skills, understand their roles, and position themselves for future head coaching opportunities. In this episode, we explore the often-overlooked path of assistant coaching—a critical stage in most coaches' careers where foundational skills are developed, relationships are built, and the realities of program management are learned without the ultimate pressure of being the head coach. Whether you're a former player looking to break into coaching, a teacher wanting to get involved, or an experienced assistant seeking to maximize your impact and advancement opportunities, this conversation will help you navigate the assistant coaching journey strategically. We discuss how to land your first assistant coaching position, including networking strategies, leveraging playing experience, understanding what head coaches look for in assistants, and being willing to start at lower levels or volunteer roles to prove your value. You'll learn the essential competencies every assistant must develop: running effective individual workouts, mastering drill instruction, learning to scout opponents and break down film, communicating with parents and players appropriately, and understanding when to lead versus when to support the head coach's decisions. We explore the delicate balance assistants must strike between having their own ideas and fully supporting the head coach's vision, even when you disagree privately. This episode provides honest advice about the challenges of assistant coaching: navigating personality differences with head coaches, dealing with limited recognition despite significant work, managing ambitions for a head position while remaining fully committed to your current role, and knowing when it's time to seek opportunities elsewhere. We also cover how to use your assistant coaching years strategically—building your coaching philosophy, developing expertise in specific areas, creating a reputation as a program builder, and networking within your state's coaching community. In this episode, we tackle two of the most challenging responsibilities that fall on high school basketball coaches: navigating player injuries and monitoring academic eligibility. These aren't just administrative tasks—they're fundamental to your duty of care as an educator and mentor who impacts young people's futures far beyond the basketball court. We discuss practical systems for injury prevention, communication protocols with athletic trainers and parents, and the difficult decisions around playing time when athletes are recovering. You'll learn how to create a culture where players feel safe reporting injuries rather than hiding them, and how to manage the pressure from parents, players, and even administrators when star athletes are sidelined. We also explore the critical importance of tracking academic progress throughout the season, not just at eligibility check dates, and strategies for intervening early when student-athletes start struggling in the classroom. This episode provides frameworks for balancing your competitive goals with long-term student welfare. We'll cover how to build relationships with teachers and counselors, create study hall structures that actually work, and communicate effectively with families when academic or injury concerns arise. Whether you're dealing with a player hiding a nagging ankle injury before playoffs or a senior whose eligibility hangs in the balance, you'll gain concrete strategies to handle these situations with wisdom, compassion, and accountability that serves your players' best interests. student-athlete injuries, academic eligibility basketball, injury management coaching, high school athlete academics, basketball injury prevention, coaching student welfare, athletic training communication, academic progress monitoring, student-athlete development, basketball coach responsibilities, injury protocol coaching, eligibility requirements, student-athlete success, coaching education balance, injury recovery timeline, academic intervention strategies, parent communication injuries, teacher collaboration coaching, student-athlete accountability, athletic academic support, concussion protocol basketball, playing injured athletes, grade monitoring system, study hall basketball, balancing sports academics, student-athlete health, coaching duty care, Wisconsin WIAA eligibility, high school coaching challenges, academic athletic balance Keys to a good offense What Are the Non-Negotiable Keys to Building an Effective Offense? The Browns secured a 13-6 victory over the rival Steelers on Sunday, but did the win come at a cost? Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock, Lance Reisland and Dan Labbe break down the immediate aftermath. The win dropped the Browns' draft position from a potential top-three pick to sixth overall, sparking a conversation about the team's future at quarterback. They debate whether fans should be upset about the draft implications or celebrate a culture-building win against a division foe. This naturally leads to an in-depth evaluation of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Has he shown enough progress to be considered the long-term answer? They explore various paths forward. They also discuss the ineffectiveness of tanking in the NFL and why players and coaches are always focused on winning the game in front of them. On the defensive side of the ball, they focus on Myles Garrett's pursuit of the sack record. While Garrett didn't get a sack, they get into how Pittsburgh's entire game plan was dedicated to stopping him and how his mere presence was a game-wrecking force that ultimately contributed to the Browns' victory. Today, we’re bringing you the best from another KUOW show, Soundside. A lot has changed during Sara Nelson’s time in Seattle government. She was a centrist outlier on a progressive city council when she was first elected in 2021. But the dynamics changed: Nelson ended up running the show as council president, after a moderate slate of candidates swept the 2023 election. Now - her time in office is coming to an end. Next month, there will be a new, more progressive representative in the citywide Position 9 seat that Nelson’s held the past four years. Nonprofit leader Dionne Foster will take Nelson’s place after winning by a wide margin of votes in November. Last week, Nelson spent an hour with Soundside to reflect on her tenure and the direction Seattle politics is moving. Listen to more Soundside here. Soundside is produced by Sarah Leibovitz, Jason Burrows, Gabrielle Healey, Hans Anderson, Jed Kim and Maleeha Syed. We can only make Seattle Now because listeners support us. Empathy After Authority: Leadership in the Post-AI Organization

For decades, leadership meant position: titles, layers, authority flowing downward. That model survived generations of management theory—but AI is dismantling it faster than most organizations realize. As automation absorbs middle management functions and teams flatten, leadership no longer comes from the org chart. It emerges from trust, psychological safety, and the ability to guide without control.Cedric and I explore how leadership is shifting from ladder to lattice, why younger generations demand clarity without micromanagement, and how learning, unlearning, and relearning have become survival skills—not growth perks. We dig into why performance without empathy burns people out, why transparency matters more than trust alone, and how leaders who can regulate themselves create teams that move faster, experiment more, and fail forward without fear. The takeaway isn't that leadership disappears—it evolves. From command-and-control to influence-without-authority. From perfection to iteration. From managing people to creating environments where people lead themselves. No nostalgia. No AI panic. Just a grounded roadmap for leaders navigating the post-AI reality.TL;DR* Hierarchy is eroding: AI collapses management layers—leadership becomes informal and horizontal.* Position ≠ influence: Future leaders are followed by choice, not title.* Ladder → lattice: Careers move sideways before up; growth isn't linear anymore.* Empathy scales performance: Psychological safety drives speed, creativity, and retention.* Learn–unlearn–relearn: AI shortens the cycle; leaders must evolve faster than systems.* Clarity creates confidence: Context + expectations beat control every time.* Transparency > trust: Explaining the why builds deeper alignment than directives.* Failure is data: Teams grow when mistakes don't equal punishment.Memorable lines* “Leadership doesn't disappear when hierarchy fades—it becomes visible.”* “AI removes managers, not the need for leadership.”* “Clarity builds confidence; confusion builds fear.”* “Trust tells people what—transparency tells them why.”* “You can't automate empathy—but you can scale it through culture.”GuestCedric B.
