Hi all, Today comes as the finale of my partnership with the Bowdoin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as part of the NESCAC's 2022 Mental Health Week. Wanting to branch away from more on-campus matters, I sought to discuss the overall relationship between the mental and physical sides of athletics, and why paying attention to it is for the best of all involved in the world of sports. For this, I brought in the sports psychologist that my high school football team worked with to help turn our program around (so yeah I had to pull out the old high school football pic for the episode cover). His name is Dr. Kevin Alschuler from the University of Washington, and you might recognize his name from episode 4 of this show. Through his perspective, I hope that teams can work on being proactive in improving their communication and support, as to avoid any of those blow ups that can crumble a team's collective identity. Thank you so much to the BSAAC for including me in this week it was a blast and I cannot wait to see what sort of growth it fosters in our campus community. Enjoy! Hi all, Here's episode 2 of my 3-part series with the Bowdoin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as part of the NESCAC's 2022 Mental Health Week. Today's theme is Mental Health during times of uncertainty. Given the events of the last two years, I wanted to focus on this in the framing of COVID and its impact on the College lifestyle. To discuss the student athlete experience through this time while also being able to explain the college's decisions, I invited our Athletic Director, Tim Ryan into the studio. We talked about everything from the college's COVID response to his own vision for how discussions of mental health can strengthen both our athletic and overall student experience here at Bowdoin. By this campus pulling together, we can leave this time behind us and focus on the possibilities for growth moving forward. A huge thank you to the BSAAC for involving me in the discussions of this week, be sure to check out all of the great programming they have put together. Enjoy! Hey Everybody, This episode comes as the first of a 3-part series with the Bowdoin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as part of the NESCAC's 2022 Mental Health Week. Each day of this mental health week has a specific theme or idea associated with a different realm of growth. Today's is tying together Mental and Physical Wellness. To discuss the way these two realms of personal health are more connected than is commonly acknowledged, I invited Bowdoin's Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Neil Willey. A huge thank you to the BSAAC for involving me in the discussions of this week, be sure to check out all of the great programming they have put together. Enjoy! Hey Everybody, I hope you all had a phenomenal Spring Break. Finally made it to episode 10. This week I had on a buddy of mine, Franny Rose, to discuss the process and outcome of his quarantine reflections. Together, we consider the struggle of balancing authenticity and social fulfilment, growth and youth in the landscape of today's college social scene. Hang around to the end for a few of our favorite book recommendations for sticking to a growth-related mindset. Enjoy! Interview is from two weeks ago. Hey Everyone, TTIHETMT is back! It's been a while and naturally, I have some thoughts and an explanation on that. Today, I will be sharing an interview I conducted about 3 weeks ago with my friend David Puzzo. We'll talk about self discovery, self acceptance, how to view your emotional states as the sin(x) wave, and more importantly how to ride them out as opposed to turning to bad habits. I hope you enjoy! Anonymous Submission Link: https://forms.gle/T4ruW3vyUSZeNQht9 Instagram: @ttihetmt_podcast https://linktr.ee/connorl22
Hey Everyone, Happy Valentine's Day! In the spirit of the holiday I had on my close friend from high school, Quinn, to discuss our stories of mental health as they pertain to relationships, along with all of the mistakes that we have made along the way. More mistakes means more lessons to have learned so hopefully we made some good points in there. From happiness to heartache and everywhere in between, we could all afford to grow a little, so why don't you come along for the ride! Enjoy! Hey Everyone, Today's episode will focus on communication and transparency. Society puts a lot of pressure on us all to keep personal struggles on the inside, so finding your voice with regard to mental health can be difficult. Overall, taking that leap can be greatly beneficial to your ability to heal. In order to discuss this topic and how we can change the discussions around mental health in our community, I had on my friend Tatum. She shared her own story and some issues she has experienced with communication around depression and other mental struggles. I also discuss and introduce the "Bro-chdel Test" in order to call out the way guys interact on college campuses, and question the productivity of our natural communicative tendencies. Thank you all for the continued support! Enjoy the episode! Anonymous Submission Link: https://forms.gle/T4ruW3vyUSZeNQht9 Instagram: @ttihetmt_podcast https://linktr.ee/connorl22
Hey Everyone, This week I brought on my good friend Graham to discuss the topic of family. It is something that has always played a huge role in the ups and downs of my life and it felt awesome to talk out our experiences together. Acknowledging the challenges that come with family has been a huge part of my journey thus far. Thank you all for the support! Enjoy the episode! Hey Everyone, I've been on this journey of self-help and self-discovery for right about 50 days now. I thought it would be a good time to check in about where I'm at and in particular what major subjects I've elected to tackle in my own life in order to better myself. I also hope to outline some of the most effective tools and ideas I've learned along the way. It's a quick listen but I'm excited to bring you along as I approach the next stages of this podcast and my life. I have really appreciated all of the conversations that I've had with listers so far and cannot wait to keep growing with you!
Hey all, this week I will be having on my high school football coach, Mike Lengel. Coach implemented a philosophy to coaching unlike any I have experienced tying in practices of mindfulness and positivity. Together, we worked to rebuild a high school football program that was at its extreme low point when he took the reigns. He taught us that football was not meant to be something that took over your life, but rather supplemented it and supported your pursuits elsewhere. A college football player himself, he comes with a long background of coaching dos and don'ts fueled by his own experiences. He bought into his new age practices, encouraging us all to buy into it with him. I hope that our generation can improve our practices as educators and coaches through his experiences and teachings and create a world where you do not have to give up on one passion in place for another, and where mental health can be supported either implicitly or explicitly along the way. Welcome to 2022! I hope you are all having a happy beginning to the new year! This week we will break down what being an athlete means to an individual's identity and how the craziness of COVID impacted that in student athletes. To discuss these topics, I welcome on the show's first interview with Chris, Joe, and Bobby, a trio of junior year members of Bowdoin Men's Ice Hockey team. A special thanks to them for sharing their stories and having a lot of fun while doing it. Come along to learn, laugh, share in the feelings, or at the very least to hear some interesting stories from some great guys. Per usual, a special thank you to Pixabay.com for the Royalty Free music I use on the show! PS - Podcast has no affiliation with Roman, so your welcome for the free advertisement.
Today's episode I will dive into the challenge it is to stop fighting against yourself and instead accepting your situation in order to face your struggles. It will outline my own experience being prescribed antidepressants, and the development of my own drinking habits. Should be a fun one! Today's episode also includes our first anonymous personal story. I really appreciate that individual taking the time to be vulnerable and cannot wait to see more! Also, a special thank you to Pixabay.com for the Royalty Free music I use on the show!
For quite some time now, I have held in far too much about how I feel about my own mental health and how it is approached in society. Due to my own inability to function anywhere in the middle ground, I will now make a leap from repressed to over sharing. With that, I would like to introduce to you my new podcast The Things That I Haven't Even Told My Therapist. There will be more news to come shortly, but I wanted to share this introductory bit to help raise awareness. Over the coming weeks (and hopefully even longer into the future) I will tell my story and speak to my own experiences as well as bring in outside voices to support and expand on the ideas I would like to address. Everyone knows that talking to someone about your struggles is never easy, especially when that individual is a relative stranger you are paying to listen and has a degree to pick apart every little piece of your subconscious. So, I started this podcast in the hopes of finally being able to address honestly the matters that I have faced with the hope that these experiences perhaps can relate to something any of you may be struggling with. I hope these ideas speak to you and that you can find some way to engage emotionally, because I know I have already discovered and confronted so much about myself. Finally, a special thank you to Pixabay.com for the Royalty Free music I use on the show!
