#471 The Secret Ingredient to Living Your Best Life Including Hypnosis What if the reason things haven't quite stuck yet isn't what you want… but why you want it? In this longer, deeper episode of Personal Development Unplugged, I take you beyond goal-setting, beyond wishy-washy intentions, and right into the one missing ingredient that makes real, lasting change inevitable. This episode includes a guided hypnosis / deep visualisation process designed to help you connect emotionally and unconsciously with the version of you who is already living their best life — and to install the inner resource that makes it all possible. We explore why New Year's resolutions fail, why motivation fizzles out, and how your unconscious mind can be guided to work for you instead of against you. In this episode, you'll discover: Why "who do you want to be?" isn't enough without a powerful why The secret ingredient that turns desire into action How your unconscious mind learns just as powerfully from imagination as reality Why visualising your future self isn't fantasy — it's training A practical demonstration showing how imagination rewires behaviour A deep hypnosis process to connect with your future self and install commitment How to access the will to do whatever it takes Why alignment with your values creates effortless momentum How living your best life benefits you, others, and the world around you

I know you have all your 2026 goals in hand and are ready to tackle them. But I have one more for you that is foundational for your success this year: regulation. You can call it attitude or frame of mind or energy - the vocabulary isn't the point. I just firmly believe that when we are able to show up as our best selves with the right intention and energy we can conquer anything - including ring nerves, pressure, insecurity, and even toxic people! Welcome to Season Six!
Experiment Zero – The Peace Experiments: Ch 1 - Goats, Potholes, and Servers Chapter One introduces Kitty O'Compost, a small-town reporter easing into an ordinary assignment in Midway, armed with a notebook, a sense of humor, and a highly observant goat named Marzipan. What begins as a routine walk toward town—past murals, potholes, and familiar civic neglect—takes an unexpected turn at the edge of a newly built facility that doesn't quite belong. This opening chapter sets the tone for The Peace Experiments: attentive, wry, and quietly unsettled. It's a story about noticing small things, trusting instincts, and recognizing the moment when a local story begins to lean toward something larger—before anyone has named it, and before anyone admits they're watching. Experiment Zero is the prequel to The Peace Experiments, a peace-forward series where a group of young people are brave enough to challenge conventional arguments against peace and disarmament. In this episode, Nancey chats with fellow collage cousin, Jas Jermaine Turk, to discuss intersectionality, being queer in the South, and how those things impact how we advocate and show up for others. The research is clear: being outside is good for us. And it is good for our dogs, too. When we know this to be true–with or without empirical data–why do we still find it so hard? Are there solutions to this? Is this actually worth doing? Isn't a quick stroll around the block better than nothing? Vow in 2025 to go outside more with your dog; you will not regret it. As 2025 comes to a close, we're stepping back from individual destinations to reflect on how we traveled this year, and how that is starting to shift everything for us. From revisiting familiar places in new ways to discovering hidden regions, connecting deeply with locals, and saying yes to moments we almost skipped, this episode is about travel moments and experiences that stay with you long after the trip ends. Instead of chasing checklists, we focused on connection, curiosity, and slowing down, and those choices led to some of our most meaningful travel moments yet. Some links are affiliate links. As you prepare your new year's resolutions, take a moment to ask, "What's your elevator pitch?" This holiday week, we're sharing a classic episode featuring an inspirational and thought-provoking scenario that you can bring into your personal and professional life. A claims adjuster is out at a party when they are asked: "So, what do you do for a living?" Our adjuster responds with just: "I'm in insurance claims." That's an "Oh no" moment. Turns out their cousin had a terrible experience on a claim and our adjuster is going to hear all about it, ending in: "You claims people are all cheaters!" Notable Timestamps [ 00:36 ] - Today's scenario begins as an interpersonal encounter about explaining your career in insurance, but the elevator pitch is applicable even on claims. [ 02:05 ] - What our claims professional needed was an elevator pitch: a succinct, prepared, organized response. Whether at a party or at a claims site, our adjuster wants to know how to summarize their thoughts in a persuasive way. Ding Ding! Your elevator's here! Are you ready? [ 02:30 ] - Mike was asked: "what's your elevator pitch?" That was an "oh no" moment... [ 03:35 ] - An elevator pitch is a simple presentation that you give in the time it would take to ride an elevator: around 30 seconds. [ 04:18 ] - 1. Grab 'em at the beginning. Get their attention with a great opening. [ 04:25 ] - 2. Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em. Be organized in your thought process. [ 04:32 ] - 3. Hit 'em with your bid conclusion/sell/ask. Be brief and practiced. [ 05:11 ] - Alissha: "So, what do you do for a living?" Mike: 1. "I allow you to take the risks to make life worth living." 2. "Without insurance, you wouldn't be able to insure your home or car." 3. "We step in when bad things happen and we hope to get people back on their feet." [ 09:15 ] - Be prepared, be organized, be succinct. [ 10:00 ] - Let's say an insured has suffered a casualty loss. How can an elevator pitch help? 1. "I'm so sorry that this happened." Take a moment to express sincere empathy. 2. Review the medical records / facts. 3. "I know that this has impacted your life, so how about we take care of your damages?" [ 11:50 ] - What's the pitch for a hurricane loss? Again, start off with an emotional connection. Second, spell out the steps to get them back into the place they were before the accident. Third, conclude with the ask and what you need for the next steps. [ 13:35 ] - Mike applies the elevator pitch to auto claims handling. [ 15:42 ] - Mike provides a recap of the scenario and the points above. Is this the end, beautiful friend? Karri and Henrik swim down memory lane, going through all their most memorable moments from the podcast over 7 years and 200 episodes. Time to pop the champagne! Over the years, the duo has made observations about the natural evolution of the show. In its humble beginnings, the episodes followed a strict scene-by-scene analysis and near-obsessive levels of breakdown - from the tiniest technical details such as Michael Myers' gait in Halloween 4 (1988), to theories about space-travel times and synodic planetary alignments in A Trip to Mars (1918), or the merciless tear-down of Cubby Broccoli's science facts in Moonraker (1979). While contextual analysis has always played a noticeable role in The Flick Lab, the episodes have increasingly detached themselves from technically intimate film analysis and shifted toward cultural, thematic, and socio-political readings. With this in mind, what does it all mean regarding the future of the podcast? Karri has spent extraordinary amounts of time trying to find the answer. Now, the answer has arrived. The pair also touch on topics such as obscure films, episode length, radio vs. podcasting, ignoring the audience to remain truthful to yourself, why the podcast is still here, mad and unhealthy podcast enthusiasm, reading vs. internet addiction, cynicism in cinema, and what was gained vs. what was given. This month, we're tracing the origins of medieval torture, separating myth from documented history, and examining how Vlad the Impaler earned his infamous reputation... one sharpened stake at a time. We're stepping back into a world where power was enforced through fear, justice was measured in pain, and punishment was designed not just to kill, but to be remembered. Medieval Europe was an age of castles and crusades, faith and fealty… and some of the most brutal torture tactics ever devised by human hands. From iron devices meant to terrify as much as they destroyed, to methods engineered for slow, public suffering, torture was both a tool of control and a warning to anyone who dared to disobey. And no figure embodies that legacy more than Vlad III of Wallachia, known to history as Vlad the Impaler.Want to hear other Patreon-exclusive episodes? In this episode of A Table in the Corner, Russel sits down with Matt van den Berg, head chef at Mertia in Stellenbosch and one of the most quietly respected chefs in the Western Cape. Matt reflects on his unconventional path into cooking, from a BCom degree and life on yachts to training at Silwood and working in some of South Africa's most demanding kitchens, including The Test Kitchen and La Colombe. He speaks candidly about discipline, long hours, kitchen culture, and the pressure of stepping out from established restaurant groups to find his own voice. The conversation explores Mertia's evolving tasting menu, technical cooking, the challenge of simplicity, and what it means to build systems, teams and confidence in a small, highly focused restaurant. An honest, thoughtful discussion about ambition, self doubt, creativity and the realities of modern chef life in South Africa. For more on Mertia, click hereEvery booking is a first impression. "I knew only darkness and stillness... but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness and my heart leaped to the rapture of living." — Helen KellerSHOW NOTES EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Spirit Balance: Your "inner ear" is the key to spiritual equilibrium; if life feels shaky, recalibrate your hearing to God's frequency. The "Un-Adulting" Key: Kingdom maturity is measured by teachability. Give yourself permission to use your imagination to access the supernatural. Spirit Resonance: Trade human logic for the "Mind of Christ"—a divine algorithm that solves problems the soul cannot comprehend. Listening at a Distance: Practice trusting God's work in the unseen realm before it manifests in the physical. Choosing Your Rock: Stillness is a choice of location. Rest in the "shade" of His presence to hear what the "sun" of daily stress drowns out. Step-by-Step Grace: Lean into the Spirit as an expert system that provides clear procedures for life's most complex challenges. "Stop 'adulting' for thirty minutes and rediscover the world through the eyes of the one who holds the moon and stars for you. Today, we aren't just talking about faith—we are training your Inner Ear to catch the melodies of heaven that the noise of the world has drowned out.By joining me on this mystical forest journey, you will receive more than just a story; you'll receive a divine recalibration.

In this last episode of 2025 for The Tarot Diagnosis, and I'm offering a collective reading using my annual New Year spread. This reading is for all of us - a shared reflection on what we're carrying forward, what we're releasing, and how we can meet the coming year with more awareness, regulation, and intention. At the center of the spread is our 2026 collective year card: The Wheel of Fortune, an archetype that speaks to change, movement, uncertainty, and the reality that life keeps turning whether we feel ready or not.Throughout the episode, I walk through each card in the seven-card spread and explore it through a therapeutic, nervous-system–informed lens. We begin by looking back at 2025 and naming something to be proud of, which arrives in the form of the Four of Cups which I realize feels like emotional discernment and learning where our energy no longer belongs. From there, the Two of Wands invites us to continue exploring curiosity, vision, and expansion in 2026, especially by gently stepping into our stretch zone rather than pushing ourselves into panic. As the reading unfolds, the Four of Swords emerges as a key lesson from the Wheel of Fortune itself: sometimes we need to tune out in order to truly tune in. This card becomes the Wheel's nervous-system companion, reminding us that rest, reduced stimulation, and intentional pauses are what allow us to survive constant motion without burning out. The Five of Pentacles reversed encourages us to stop chasing closed doors and opt out of spaces (social, creative, spiritual, or relational) that no longer offer genuine care or belonging. We then turn toward what to release as we enter the new year, with The Hanged Man reversed highlighting the trap of endless waiting, over-intellectualizing, or disguising avoidance as patience and spirituality. This card asks us to notice where reflection has turned into bypassing and where it's time to act, even without perfect clarity. The reading closes with a collective affirmation drawn from The Strength card, which I explore through the lens of titration and nervous-system regulation. Rather than brute force or pushing through, Strength becomes a reminder to manage activation with care and intention. The affirmation I offer for 2026 based on the Strength card is: “I will move at a pace my nervous system can handle.”I also talk about turning this affirmation into a sigil-based ritual - a practice I use regularly to anchor insight into daily life. If you choose to pull this spread for yourself using your personal 2026 year card, or create your own sigil or affirmation, I'd love to see what emerges for you!Thank you for being here, for listening, and for allowing me to hold space at the intersection of tarot, psychology, and mental health. I hope this collective reading supports you as you step into 2026 with more ease, clarity, and self-trust.Deck used: Tarot Vintage
SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 355, “We're Not Graded on a Curve,” Kim discusses the dangers of Christ-followers comparing their walk to others. In today's text, we see the story of someone who did evil, but his evil was not as bad as others. May we get our eyes on Christ, the only example we should be chasing, and get off the comparison wheel. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 17:1-4, with 2 as the focal verse: 2 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, but not to the same extent as the kings of Israel who ruled before him. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Spend a few prayerful minutes reading Matthew 5-7. Additional Resources and Scriptures: 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48) 1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8) 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Spoiler alert: this week we're analyzing the Twilight Zone episode “The Odyssey of Flight 33” Flight 33 is a typical commercial plane with a typical crew and set of passenger. However, they are about to experience something wholly untypical. They have found themselves in some kind of jet stream, one that this veteran crew has never experienced before. And suddenly, they find themselves in a precarious situation, feeling out of sorts and also out of time. On this episode of KOI: A Twilight Zone Show, we're going to try and see if learning some of the technical jargon related to flying can help us enjoy the episode even more; we'll try and understand the theory of time that is being espoused here; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, a hard look at the decision that is made by the people in this episode and they might serve as a source of strength for our own views on life today. So, grab your keys, and let's open up this door to the fifth dimension. Want to support the KOI show, get extra content, and give money to two awesome charities at the same time? We've taken the week off so our team can have a holiday before returning with fresh episodes! In the meantime, please enjoy a couple of episodes of Jesters of Ravenloft celebrating a completely different holiday! In the previous episode...The troupe left Protection Town and set off toward the Barren Hills. Del got her phone out and shared photos of them all in happier times and New Rogue connected again with Shadow Nemesis by reminiscing about Wet Change's more bizarre sketches until they arrived at the Nameless Graveyard. Coming upon a church, they investigated the strange statues atop it, and when Tyler discovered that those stone gargoyles were cursed and would come alive at night, Shadow Nemesis smashed their heads off. But the sun is setting and they've yet to explore the inside the building. Have they done enough to ensure their safety tonight?Featuring players Tyler Hewitt, Del Borovic, Guy Bradford, and Adam McNamara, and Dungeon Master Ryan LaPlante. Wet Change entered the church in the Nameless Graveyard and, when Del realized it was Thanksgiving, they decided to celebrate and found some food and drinks. Rumpleforeskin made a berry jelly and baked a calzone inside themself, they all played cards, and the Doctor Deputy put on such an incredible show with the Tech Deck that Tyler gave it to him permanently. They all said what they were thankful for, received gifts from the Watchers, including a goat for New Rogue that he can pet without harming, and discovered that Shadow Nemesis had slept with a Sanguine. Now can they defeat the gargoyle that just landed unexpectedly in their midst?Featuring players Tyler Hewitt, Del Borovic, Guy Bradford, and Adam McNamara, and Dungeon Master Ryan LaPlante.Enjoying Jesters of Ravenloft?- Consider supporting the show for as little as $1 a month to get BTS fun, an ad-free feed, and even add your own character to the podcast! The troupe is locked in combat with the Gargoyle King and five miniature gargoyles. New Rogue focused his powers entirely on keeping his goat safe, Shadow Nemesis tried to strike at the king, but hit Del instead, Tyler effectively conjured illusory clones of himself to draw the attention of the gargoyles, and Del psychically attacked with a Cronenberg-like jamboree band. The Doctor Deputy discovered that he couldn't attack the gargoyle king unless it first attacked every member of the troupe, and with the stone giant swiftly smashing through Tyler's illusions, will the troupe survive another blow?Featuring players Tyler Hewitt, Del Borovic, Guy Bradford, and Adam McNamara, and Dungeon Master Ryan LaPlante.Enjoying Jesters of Ravenloft?- Consider supporting the show for as little as $1 a month to get BTS fun, an ad-free feed, and even add your own character to the podcast! Oh, hey. Hi. Have a good Christmas? Me too. Got up early, stayed up late, right? So I'm here with a whole bunch of coffee drinks to get going this morning! I didn't know what to do for a relaxed post-Christmas episode, and then I remembered this interview with John Mleziva of State Line Distillery. They make a great coffee liqueur, and we talked about that. I knew we'd be just sitting around drinking coffee on that morning after Christmas, so I made that into an episode. Then I told you more about the press trip to Mexico I took back in 2011 to see how Kahlua is made, with all the feels, and all the delicioso, and the extra-special cocktail we learned how to make. And the donkey herb moonshine we had. Yeah, not a typo. Was that Kahlua cocktail What I'm Drinking Today? Oh, honey... I drank two cups of coffee (after my usual two mugs earlier) while I was taping the show, a La Colombe Triple Latte, and four different coffee liqueurs. My heart rate is a bit elevated right now. The Smack Dab In The Centre segment: yeah, more coffee; the three great coffee roasters in Centre County. And then a handful of other things, like the nice gift I got from the Pittsburgh Whiskey Friends, and one last holiday book plug, and a possible new New Year's Eve tradition, and a little bit of classical music appreciation. Next episode is an interview with Dad's Hat distiller Herman Mihalich! See you next year, in 13 days! Happy New Year! Until then? TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE PODCAST!
