Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Marsha Evans. Purpose of the Interview To highlight Marsha Evans’ work as a licensed professional counselor and founder of Willow Tree Counseling and Educational Center. To explore strategies for navigating life’s complex stages, breaking generational patterns, and building authentic relationships. To provide actionable insights for entrepreneurs and individuals on self-awareness, fear management, and relationship dynamics. Key Takeaways Understanding Complexity Life stages vary in complexity for each person—middle school for some, adulthood for others. Evans emphasizes listening and identifying what balance, peace, or contentment means for each individual. Early Awareness and Discipline At age 12, Evans set a goal to earn a scholarship, showing intentionality and discipline. Athletics taught her teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience, shaping her leadership style. Reading the Room Start by reading yourself—know your energy and intentions. Authenticity and confidence are key to building relationships and leveraging opportunities. Fear and Family Systems Fear often originates from family systems and generational patterns, not just personal experiences. Example: Parents’ limited worldview can project fear of the unknown onto children. Recognizing these patterns helps individuals break cycles and pursue their own paths. Generational Patterns & Healing Evans uses Genograms (visual family trees) to identify psychological and behavioral patterns across three generations. Acceptance of parents and family history is crucial for personal and professional growth. Rejecting parents = rejecting life and success; honor them while creating new narratives. Practical Steps for Change Build a relationship with yourself through solitude, meditation, yoga, and movement. Reduce stress (cortisol levels) to improve clarity and decision-making. Examine your money story—how family attitudes toward money shape your financial behavior. Relationships Romantic: Partners often mirror unresolved childhood issues; do inner work to avoid projecting. Professional: Maintain boundaries; emotional needs should not be placed on workplace relationships. Personal: Define roles clearly; avoid expecting friends to fill parental gaps. Consistency and Authenticity Success requires consistency with yourself before expecting it from others. Ask: Are your goals truly yours or influenced by societal expectations? Notable Quotes “I become a visitor in your world and start listening to your story.” “Reading the room starts with reading yourself.” “Fear is often not yours—it comes from your family system.” “You can’t reject your parents; when you reject your mother, you reject life.” “Consistency with yourself is key to achieving the results you desire.” “Your partner cannot carry the burden of your parents.” “People are divorced from themselves—I teach them how to get married to themselves.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College
Northeast Mississippi Community College President Dr. Ricky G. Ford and Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery look at how student feedback shapes leadership on campus. Ford reflects on a key lesson he has learned from listening to students and how their input plays a part in guiding tough decisions. He points out that colleges must adjust their expectations as each new group of students arrives with different needs and priorities. Their conversation includes Ford's take on the familiar phrase “Back when I was in college,” and why educators cannot rely on what worked years ago. He explains that meeting today's students where they are means building programs and services that fit a new generation's outlook. A major topic in the episode is technology and its role in modern education. Ford highlights Northeast's progress in this area and notes that other institutions often look to the college as they work to strengthen their own technology efforts. Plus, get the latest updates on athletics, academics, workforce development, and all the incredible things happening at one of the nation's premier community colleges.

This week on the show, Cynthia and Dr. Ken dive into the wild, wonderful, and occasionally mind-numbing world of youth sports. Dr. Ken breaks down what's really going on inside our teens—whether they're thriving, quitting, or somewhere in between. He unpacks why control is the number-one issue in teen athletics, why even highly talented kids sometimes walk away from their sport, and how parents can set fair expectations without taking over their child's identity. There are also discussions on injuries, identity loss, parent pressure, car-ride conversations, and the subtle emotional pitfalls that come with living in a sports-centered family culture. It's a practical, compassionate, and eye-opening conversation for every parent navigating the highs, lows, and hard lessons of teenage sports. If you have a minute, please leave us a review. “My biggest thing has been remembering that I'm not Dathan, I'm not Kelsey, but that's why I was hired. The three of us all have very different experiences, we bring different things to the table, and we're just hoping to give the athletes this well-roundedness in support and resources... That's the really cool part about what OAC is doing. We're trying to help this next wave of incredible athletes maximize what they're capable of and it's okay that we all do that differently.”My guest for today's episode is Laura Thweatt, the former professional marathoner who has now stepped into an assistant coach role and is helping oversee the roads team with the On Athletics Club. For 13 years, Laura was a steady coaching presence for high school runners in Boulde and now she's made the jump to guide the likes of 2025 New York City Marathon champion Hellen Obiri and has also helped Joe Klecker navigate the transition from the track to 26.2.Laura is someone who understands the emotional and psychological side of performance. The OAC has seen quite a bit of success in its first five years as a team and as the sport is in one of the most competitive eras ever. Laura is now the connective tissue between the original core of the team and the next generation stepping onto the roads. She talks about how she's built that trust with the athletes, fostered the culture, and developed her own coaching philosophy and style.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Laura Thweatt | @lthweatt on Instagram Produced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSNOMIO: Made with 80% broccoli sprout juice, 15% lemon juice, and 5% sugar, Nomio activates your body's natural defense systems to reduce lactate, speed recovery, and enhance muscle adaptation. Guest: Jason Illian, CEO Highmount Capital If you'd like to watch this podcast, check out the PCA YouTube page.
