HELLO LOVELY PEOPLE!! HAPPY SPEECH PATHOLOGY AUSTRALIA WEEK!!We are back with such a great episode and we can't wait to share it with you!In today's episode we chat to Laura Morrison. Laura has worked as a Speech Pathologist in rural, regional and metropolitan areas in Australia, as well as the UK, focusing on dysphagia and acquired communication disorders in the adult population within both the public and private sectors. In this episode we pick Laura's brain about her specialist knowledge in treating patients with a progressive neurological condition with emphasis on quality of life in palliative populations. Laura's current roles include specialist MND clinic, residential aged care and outpatient dysphagia clinic. We discuss Laura's research project in oral health, and also the communication of safe eating and drinking within the healthcare system. Laura opened our eyes to so many areas that we were not so familiar with, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to have such a rich conversation with Laura. HAPPY SWALLOWING AWARENESS DAY!! Today in the Up + Coming Speechies in the loop episode we are so EXCITED to be chatting to the incredible Dr Ianessa Humbert! Dr Humbert is a swallowing expert, researcher, professor and of course speech pathologist. Vikesh is the National President of the Australian Speak Easy Association and an incredible advocate for people who stutter. Thursday 22nd of October is International Stuttering Awareness Day which is intended to raise awareness about stuttering and the barriers faced by people who stutter (PWS). In this episode we hear about some of the lived experiences throughout Vikesh's journey and how he gained the confidence to transform from once staying silent, to now communicating without fear. Vikesh also sheds some light on the need for more societal education to ensure we overcome ignorance and create a community where all people with communicative differences can interact comfortably.
