Natalie Glebova, best-selling author, inner beauty coach, and the winner of Miss Universe 2005, recounts making history in the Miss Universe pageant and becoming a "Bond girl", what competing in contests mostly geared towards OUTWARD beauty taught her about finding INNER beauty and how she's passing it on, finding peace in Thailand, and entering the "Temple of Love".

Long before 1988, Taiwan's beauty pageants had been mired in rumors — winners accused of marrying into political dynasties, whispers of contests doubling as “wife buffets” for the elite, and government crackdowns on such events being too frivolous in austere times. Even beauty standards themselves were contested as Western pageants favored tall frames and bold features, while traditional Chinese ideals prized delicacy, modesty, and the “melon-seed face.” By the time Miss Universe came to Taipei, the stage was set for both spectacle and controversy.Yet for Taiwan's government, the payoff was irresistible. Hosting Miss Universe meant sixteen minutes of global airtime to present the Republic of China's culture, heritage, and landmarks from Taroko Gorge to Yehliu's Queen's Head. For a country fighting for recognition, this beauty show was also showtime for “Free China.”Do us a favor: Rate, review, follow, sub, etc... it really helps!

In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela kick things off with headlines about Sidney Sweeney's latest box office flop, Miss Palestine entering the Miss Universe pageant, and media figures ripe for ridicule. The conversation shifts into cultural commentary on the state of comedy, the rise of TikTok imitators, and the blurry line between influence and joke theft. The hosts explore the legacy of performers like Sinbad and Joan Rivers, the impact of representation in comedy, and how cultural shifts have shaped humor across generations. They also break down a viral debate featuring Amanda Seales, examining her exchanges with black conservatives, the framing of systemic racism, and the broader cultural role of victimhood versus resilience. Later, the panel takes on an online “racism quiz,” confronting loaded questions about stereotypes, language, and representation. Their sharp, irreverent responses highlight both the absurdity of the exercise and the cultural contradictions it exposes, ending with a debate over the surprising results. Today's guests on "Normal World" are Lila Hart and Gerard Michaels. Sponsors Flying Ace Some bourbons chase trends. Flying Ace chases legacy. Kiara Liz Ortega, AKA: Former Miss Universe Puerto Rico, star of Mira Quién Baila (which she won!), and TV host, takes us on a journey from bartending in San Juan to walking the stage in Bangkok for Miss Universe — and everywhere in between. We learn (in hilarious fashion) that Puerto Rico is in fact an island. Cue the laughter as we share memories from El Conquistador, Palomino Island, and Rincón. Kiara clarifies misconceptions and paints a vivid picture of Puerto Rico's surf culture, geography, and food (yes, we're talking about that famous Ponce ice cream). We get the real story behind Kiara representing Rincón in the pageant: a surfer boy. With giggles and a hint of nostalgia, she confesses her first love inspired the choice. The moment becomes even sweeter when Pol's coffee reading reveals that her heart still echoes with “J.” (Spoiler: Not Juan Carlo) From slinging whiskey to being scouted by a regular (whose daughter is Miss World 2016, Estefanía del Valle), Kiara's Cinderella story begins. Her bar patrons even started a “pageant fund” jar to help her train — throwing down cash in a bidding war of support. Kiara shares how she went from underdog to international finalist — while secretly battling self-sabotage the night before the pageant. The emotional honesty is unforgettable. Post-pageant, she won Mira Quién Baila, starred in theater, and became a TV host in Mexico and the U.S. (And yes, she got a check instead of a trophy — and she's not mad about it .) Kiara opens up about doing charity work before she was ever crowned — especially her work with Centro Inés, a home for the elderly in Puerto Rico. She describes how “just showing up” can be the most powerful act of love. Pol' delivers a spot-on coffee reading, revealing the number 8 as a sign of major transformations, especially in love, timing, and new projects. Suspect in Execution-Style Murders of ‘American Idol' Executive and Husband Had History of Violence and Mental Health Issues The man accused of killing American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, in their Encino, California, home last week had a history of alarming behavior, multiple arrests, and signs of mental instability, according to court and police records, as well as interviews with neighbors. Raymond Boodarian, 22, was arrested on Tuesday, July 9, and charged with two counts of murder following a violent home invasion that left Kaye, 69, and DeLuca, 70, dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The couple was found in their $4.5 million gated mansion in Encino, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Boodarian, who lived about 13 minutes away from the victims' home, had long raised red flags in his own community. According to multiple neighbors, he frequently exhibited disturbing behavior, including wandering the streets high on drugs, staring into homes, and bringing known drug users into the area. “He would just sit in front of houses smiling and staring. It was unsettling,” one neighbor told The New York Post. “No one was shocked when we heard he'd been arrested.” Records show that Boodarian had been arrested multiple times between October 2023 and June 2024 on charges including brandishing a deadly weapon, battery, and criminal threats with intent to terrorize, according to Los Angeles Times and state inmate records. However, the charges were dismissed after he was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. Despite these concerns, Boodarian was released several times, including after a six-month stint in custody that ended earlier this year. Authorities believe that on Thursday, July 4, 2025, Boodarian broke into Kaye and DeLuca's residence, which was protected by fencing, gates, and surveillance systems. A neighbor spotted a man jumping the couple's fence around 4:00 p.m. and called police. Officers arrived and conducted an aerial search with a helicopter but found no immediate signs of a break-in. Tragically, investigators now say that by the time police arrived, Kaye and DeLuca were already dead inside the home. Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Guy Golan confirmed that Boodarian remained inside the residence for roughly 30 minutes before the couple arrived home. “A violent struggle ensued between the victims and the suspect, who was already inside. The homeowners were ruthlessly shot multiple times,” Golan said. Fingerprints from Boodarian's prior arrests and surveillance footage tied him to the crime scene, according to TMZ, which also published images of Boodarian being arrested shirtless outside his home, surrounded by officers in tactical gear. Robin Kaye was a highly respected music supervisor who worked on American Idol for at least 15 seasons, helping to shape the sound and success of the long-running reality competition. She also worked on productions including Lip Sync Battle, Miss USA, and Miss Universe. Thomas DeLuca, her husband, was a musician who, like Kaye, was deeply embedded in the entertainment industry. The couple was well-known and beloved in their professional and personal circles. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This week, we're joined by the brilliant Chrissy Stroop, a scholar, writer, and all-around truth-teller. Chrissy is a leading voice in exposing the Christian nationalist movement, the exvangelical uprising, and the growing marriage between the American and Russian far-right. She also happens to be a trans woman with a PhD in Russian history and a wild journey that took her from a fundamentalist Christian school in Indiana to teaching in Moscow. Chrissy and Andrea go way back to the early days of calling out Trump's ties to Russia when doing so earned us hit pieces, smears, and even being called CIA agents or Russian spies, depending on who was yelling. In this episode, we dig into everything: Russia's anti-gay propaganda laws (and why Trump proudly ignored the global boycott to host Miss Universe there in 2013), the dismantling of American public education, and why Christian nationalism is not just a domestic threat; it's a global movement. Chrissy breaks down how the Christian Right has long operated its own post-truth disinformation ecosystem and how the fear of hell was used as an emotional bludgeon to control kids like her, until her queer awakening in Russia at age 33. She's living proof that you can deconstruct the indoctrination, with a little help of Ranger Rick, and build a life outside of it. From pledges to the Bible and the American flag to Putin's regime and America's culture wars, Chrissy's story is a powerful testament to resilience, resistance, and reclaiming truth. When consumers can get AI-generated designs completely customized to their needs, what does this mean for the future of brands and the customer experience? I have two guests on my show today: one is the founder of one of the world's most iconic shoe brands, and the other is the co-creator of the first AI-designed commercial shoe. Today we're going to talk about what it takes to innovate and grow a brand and how things are both similar—and different since Reebok launched its brand in 1960, and now Syntilay brings a whole new era of AI-based design to the market. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome Joe Foster, the founder of Reebok and Ben Weiss, the CEO of Syntilay. About Joe FosterJoe founded Reebok in 1958 with his late brother Jeff, following their family heritage back to 1895. Joe's Grandfather, also Joseph W Foster, pioneered the spiked running shoe and famously made shoes for the Worlds best athletes of the early 20th century, with World records and Olympics Gold Medals.Wearing (pumps) made by J W Foster & Sons Ltd, Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell won Olympic Gold Medals in the 1928 Paris Olympics and were immortalised in the film ‘Chariots of Fire'.With Reebok they followed in his footsteps, with Olympic, Commonwealth and European medals and World record breaking performances, represented now by the range of Reebok Classics. About Ben WeissBen is building the future of sneakers, shoes designed with Artificial Intelligence that are entirely 3D printed, accompanied by an excellent team and set of advisors including the legendary Reebok Founder, Joe Foster, original Shark Tank Shark, Kevin Harrington, and others. He hosts the business podcast, LegendsNLeaders, which breaks down the steps it truly takes to become successful and have a positive impact in the world. The podcast has featured outstanding guests like Kevin O'Leary, Shark Tank Shark, Howie Mandel, Steve Madden, Miss Universe, R'Bonney Nola, and has been viewed in the millions. "Maine continues to cater to transgenders at the expense of women." This powerful statement opens a raw, honest conversation about a growing controversy in Maine's social landscape. Following the state's decisions about transgender policies in women's sports and prisons, attention now turns to the Miss Maine pageant, where the first-ever transgender contestant will compete in the traditionally female competition. The episode features deeply personal insights from a former Miss Maine contestant who shares her transformative experience competing at age 19. She describes the year-long journey of preparation, fundraising, community service, and personal growth that made the pageant so meaningful. With remarkable detail, she reveals the financial investment required and the sisterhood formed through shared vulnerability backstage. This controversy touches on fundamental questions about women's spaces and opportunities. The hosts discuss how the intimate nature of these competitions—including communal changing areas and the trust between contestants—creates environments specifically designed for women's empowerment. They question what happens when these spaces change, potentially making contestants uncomfortable or causing some to withdraw altogether.Drawing connections to other recent incidents where women's rights have been subordinated to transgender inclusion policies, the episode examines how this fits into a larger pattern in Maine and beyond. A surprising revelation comes when the former contestant shares her pageant program featuring Donald Trump (then-owner of Miss Universe) emphasizing opportunities specifically for "young women"—highlighting the stark contrast with current policies.Whether you're concerned about women's rights, interested in the complexities of gender politics, or simply want to understand the human impact of these policy decisions, this episode offers thoughtful perspectives from those directly affected. Join us for this crucial conversation about balancing inclusion with protecting spaces that have historically empowered women and girls. If you found value in today's show please return the favor and leave a positive review and share it with someone important to you! https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/reviews/new/Find all you need to know about the show https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/Official Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077724159859Join the 2% of Americans that Buy American and support American Together we can bring back American Manufacturing https://www.loudproudamerican.shop/Loud Proud American Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LoudproudamericanLoud Proud American Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/loud_proud_american/Loud Proud American TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@loud_proud_americanLoud Proud American YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYQtOt6KVURuySWYQ2GWtwThank you for Supporting My American Dream!

Angela Martini’s journey is one of resilience, transformation, and the powerful blend of love and discipline.
