Angela explains why maintaining and building healthy muscle tissue is crucial for women, especially as they go through hormonal changes in midlife and menopause. Muscle helps regulate metabolism, balance hormones, strengthen bones, and improve cognitive function. She emphasizes that the goal is not to "bulk up" but to develop a strong, lean physique. Angela recommends that women aim for 30 grams of protein per meal, and around 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight per day. She discusses the differences between plant-based and animal-based proteins and suggests using protein shakes as a convenient way to meet protein needs, especially for vegetarians/vegans. Angela advises a combination of strength training and high-intensity interval training, even if just for 20-30 minutes a day.
