The Philadelphia Flyers didn't just win hockey games in the 1970s — they changed the sport, the city, and the culture around them. In this episode, we dig into the rise, reign, and mythology of the "Broad Street Bullies," the decade-long era (1971–1981) when the Flyers transformed themselves from an NHL expansion afterthought into the toughest, most polarizing, and most beloved champions in league history. To unpack how a group of gritty, bruising, blue-collar players became civic folk heroes, we sit down with long-time Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriter Sam Carchidi and screenwriter/film director Jeff Hare — whose new book "Bullies: Catching Up with the Hound, the Hammer, and the Stanley Cup Champion Philadelphia Flyers," moves beyond the highlight reels and historic penalty minutes to reveal the human stories inside the chaos — the humor, the fearlessness, the insecurities, and the emotional glue that bound this unlikely team together. Carchidi and Hare take us behind the curtain of the Flyers' rise: Bobby Clarke's galvanizing leadership, Bernie Parent's brilliance, and the intimidating presence of Dave "The Hammer" Schultz and the enforcer corps that made Philadelphia both feared and admired. But they also illuminate something deeper — why these players resonated so intensely with a city hungry for identity and pride, and how the team's swagger helped reshape the NHL itself. From untold anecdotes to new reflections on how the Bullies view their legacy today, this conversation reframes one of hockey's most iconic eras. Whether you grew up worshipping the orange and black or are discovering the Bullies for the first time, this episode uncovers the heart behind the havoc — and why the legend still looms so large. Speaker: Professor Catherine Malecki (University of Rennes)Even in the context of the future EU Omnibus Package and the EU Directive n°2025/794 of 14 April 2025 'Stop-the-Clock', Companies and there directors must face an increasing climate litigation and this change cannot go back 20 years of progress in Sustainable Corporate Governance which is on the way on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and in Asia. Indeed, the European Commission has been releasing innovative and often complex regulations at a breakneck speed since 2018 (CSRD, CS3D, Taxonomy, to name a few) and it would be inconceivable to come back to 2001 at the time of the first European Recommendation on CSR and to ignore the EU Green Deal of 2019.Directors have to take into account negatives externalities and stringent obligations such as the Transition Plans. Even if the the next generation of sustainable board directors is well aware of Climate risks, several questions may arise : is there a need to reshape the board despite the EU Directive WoB Women in board of 23 November 2022? What about the pressure of the Stakeholders and the pressure of the Sustainable Strategy ? In France, in the wake of the Due Diligence Law of 27 March 2017, climate litigation is also increasing (for example TotalEnergies, CA Paris, 18 June 2024) and France was the first State Member for having implemented the CSRD in December 2023. This morning, we begin with a well-known story, and it goes like this:Once upon a time there was a hare who lived in the forest. He was a speedy runner and loved to race others to prove he was the fastest.“I'm so fast, no one can beat me” He would say to anyone that would listen. One day, Hare was boasting about his talent when a small voice said, “You've never raced me.” It was Tortoise.“YOU, the slowest in the forest? Race ME?” Hare laughed. “This is going to be the easiest race ever.” Hare said, “First one to reach the end of the meadow on the other side of the forest is the winner!”The other animals in the forest set up a starting line and one shouted, Ready Set Go!As soon as the race began, Hare hopped off into the distance, quick as a flash. But tortoise barely moved from the starting line. When Hare reached the big oak tree on the edge of the meadow, tortoise was nowhere in sight. Hare was so sure of himself and his ability that he decided he had time to rest for a while under the shade of the tree before he finished the race. But Hare fell into a deep sleep under the tree and didn't notice as tortoise plodded on by into the meadow towards the finish line. When Hare woke up, he looked up to see that Tortoise was close to the finish line, and though he was fast, he was not fast enough to beat Tortoise. Tortoise won the race. Now, this story was said to have originally been told by a great Greek storyteller called Aesop as a fable around 600 BC – a short story with a moral life lesson attached – Pride goes before a fall.A message by Samantha Barlow

What if your rush to “get there” is the very thing keeping you stuck? We take the classic tortoise and hare fable and use it as a mirror for the real race we all run: ego's hunger for speed versus spirit's devotion to depth. The hare craves proof, applause, and quick wins; the tortoise trusts pace, process, and presence. One burns hot and naps in comfort. The other keeps moving, even when no one's cheering.Together we unpack why the universe often “loans” early momentum, how surface-level breakthroughs fool us into complacency, and why embodiment beats excitement every time. You'll hear practical ways to design your environment for discipline—from moving the weights to the basement to setting honest rules that close loopholes—and how small daily actions become identity. We talk parenting and consequences, study habits, and why hunting only when hungry keeps you in cycles of panic and push. The heart of the message is simple: consistency is spirituality in motion. Master your pace, and you master the process; master the process, and the product takes care of itself. If you knew you'd arrive but timing didn't matter, how would you show up today? Try the 1% rule—one small, aligned step that stacks over months into quiet, undeniable change. The soul doesn't need to announce transformation; it lives it.If this conversation helped you slow down and go deeper, share it with a friend who's sprinting on fumes, subscribe for more grounded tools, and leave a review to tell us your 1% shift today.✨ Ready to take your growth to the next level? ✨The DG Mindset Academy | School of Growth is now open! It isn't often that we interview social justice activists working in the United States but in the last few years the US context has dramatically worsened. Democratic freedoms have been curtailed, women's rights have been eroded, immigrants are being expelled and incarcerated, and we are seeing armed responses in several major cities to civil society protests. So, in this episode we talk to three extraordinary US social justice leaders: Carly Hare, an equity activist and advocate for the collective power of community solutions who comes from the Pawnee/Yankton nations; Masha Chernyak, an immigrant from Russia, who worked for more than a decade at the Latino Community Foundation where she boldly centered love in all of its programs, helping build the largest Latino donor network in the nation and a Latino Nonprofit Accelerator that has changed the game for grassroots nonprofits; and Ava Bynum a resource mobilizer, organizer, and movement leader. Ava is the Director of Impact at Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), where they work to resource social justice movements, lead workshops, coach donors, and raise critical funds to support collective liberation efforts. We asked them to explain how they center love and solidarity in their work to challenge current moves against democracy and human rights in the US. All of them acknowledge that solidarity work isn't light and it isn't easy. Carly navigates the different communities she belong to – tribal, family, inter-racial communities – and asks "how do you skill build, how do you hold enough space to love and believe that people can be mobilized? And then how do you hold enough self-love to not put yourself in harm's way". Masha reflects on how she used to be laughed out of the room when she led strategic planning sessions where she put love squarely at the center but she prevailed. Recounting the words of Shiree Tang she says "when the house is burning, what else do you do? ... We need to make love just as sexy and powerful as fear." Ava says clearly that "it's really hard to organize people you don't love or at least have some openness to." Speaking as someone who has worked with poor white communities in Appalachia and other rural areas in the US, she has important lessons to share. Do these strategies change systems of oppression? Listen in and hear their views!
In Aesop's fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, the over confident hare thinks his speed is the guarantee of success and victory; however, the tortoise, who's us, shows us that persistence and consistency prevails. It's a parable of living life with the long game, not the short and the immediate.

In Aesop's fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, the over confident hare thinks his speed is the guarantee of success and victory; however, the tortoise, who's us, shows us that persistence and consistency prevails. It's a parable of living life with the long game, not the short and the immediate.

Ever wondered how someone could make half their annual photography income in just one week? That's exactly what happened to Megan O'Hare when she ran her first strategic Black Friday promotion. In this episode, I'm sitting down with Megan O'Hare, the powerhouse behind The Photo Project—a course that teaches moms how to organize their digital photo chaos. We're diving deep into how Megan went from making around $7,000 on her first attempt at a Black Friday sale to crushing it with $51,000 the following year using my Black Friday in a Box strategy. She's pulling back the curtain on exactly how she structures her promotions, why her done-for-you service sells out twice a year, and how she's built a business model that allows her to barely touch social media while still growing her email list and revenue consistently. This conversation is packed with strategy gold, including why Megan limits her high-ticket one-to-one offers to just two sale periods per year, how she's made certain products available ONLY during Black Friday (talk about built-in urgency!), and why 95% of her done-for-you clients are people who already bought her course but decided they'd rather just have her do it.What you'll learn:How Megan went from $7K to $51K in Black Friday sales by implementing a strategic promotion planThe exact structure of her 5-day Black Friday sale and why limiting availability creates massive demandWhy her done-for-you service clients are almost always previous course buyers (and what that means for YOUR business model)How she runs a summer sale using the same Black Friday strategy for an additional revenue boostHer approach to making certain products available ONLY during promotional periods to drive urgencyWhy lead generation ads are her "cost of doing business" and how she thinks about ROI differentlyThe truth about her email marketing strategy (spoiler: it's not perfect, and that's okay)How she's structured pricing for her done-for-you service to avoid awkward money conversationsResources Mentioned in this episode:Black Friday in a Box: https://gemmabonhamcarter.com/black-friday The Photo Project: https://thephotoproject.co/ Megan O'Hare on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oharephotos/ Your Next Steps:Work with Me: https://www.gemmabonhamcarter.com/programsWhat I Use to Run My 7-Figure Business: https://gemmabonhamcarter.com/toolsConnect on Social: https://www.instagram.com/gemma.bonhamcarter Support the show
The AvBrief editor-in-chief describes how the new aviation news service relies on humans to research and write aviation news. Also, the impact of the federal government shutdown on air traffic controllers and how they may influence a resolution of the shutdown, modernization of the 109th Airlift Wing ski squadron, and an idea to allocate some Essential Air Service (EAS) subsidies to rural bus services. Guest Russ Niles is Editor-in-Chief of AVBrief, a new website and newsletter that offers aviation news written and researched by humans involved in aviation. Russ has been a pilot for 35 years and owns a 1946 Cessna 140. He has been an aviation journalist since 2003 and was editor-in-chief at AvWeb until July 31, 2025, when he and several others in senior positions were unexpectedly let go. Russ wasn't done being an aviation journalist, and he, along with some fellow journalists, launched AvBrief on August 3, 2025. Russ strongly believes that AI-based journalism cannot effectively create good aviation news content. Rather, it must come from human journalists, and this is a hallmark of AvBrief. The free AvBrief newsletter is currently published three times a week, but Russ sees that growing to a daily email. You can sign up for that at AvBrief.com. In addition to the news stories on the website, you'll also find The Smart Aviator with new products, flight reviews, and best practices for maintenance and airmanship. Russ hopes this will grow into its own online publication. Aviation News As more air traffic controllers miss work, Transportation secretary threatens to fire ‘problem children' controllers The CNN article describes how the ongoing government shutdown is causing widespread staffing shortages among U.S. air traffic controllers, leading to significant delays and disruptions at major airports. At least 11 FAA locations are affected, including key hubs like Chicago O'Hare, Newark, Orlando, Denver, and regional facilities, where control towers are operating with fewer controllers, resulting in delays of up to 90 minutes. In Duffy Threatens Dismissal for Controllers Who Falsely Call in Sick, AvBrief reports that in an interview on Fox Business, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, “If we have a continual small subset of controllers that don't show up to work, and they're the problem children … if we have some on our staff that aren't dedicated like we need, we're going to let them go. I can't have people not showing up for work.” TSA agents helped end a government shutdown before. Could they do it again? Staffing shortages among TSA agents and air traffic controllers are causing airport delays during the ongoing government shutdown. Could their actions exert pressure an to end the shutdown? The National Air Traffic Controllers Association is urging all controllers to keep coming to work, but recognizes that some may choose not to attend due to the financial strain. Ultimately, only Congress can end a shutdown, but the impact of worker shortages—travel delays and safety concerns—has historically played a part in resolving previous government shutdowns. Vital Ski Squadron Modernization Getting Budget Attention Strategic concerns over increased military activity by China and Russia in the Arctic have prompted U.S. lawmakers and the Pentagon to accelerate modernization of the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing, which operates unique ski-equipped C-130s supporting polar operations. Recently, $29 million was reallocated to fast-track the development of a new ski-equipped C-130J model to replace the aging LC-130H “Ski Bird” fleet that has become increasingly unreliable and difficult to maintain due to its age—some aircraft are between 30 and 50 years old. As Congress weighs rural air subsidies ... what about rural bus service? Essential Air Service (EAS) provides federal subsidies (about $550 million annually in the lower 48 and Hawaii) to ensure small,
