What's Your Story?

Rev. Lawrence T. Richardson joins us on this What's Your Story episode to share his story. From being a homeless queer youth to attempting suicide in college, Richardson opens up about his journey to joy, abundance, faith, and gratitude. Rev. Lawrence T. Richardson is the author of the book I Know What Heaven Looks Like. He writes about and advocates for LGBTQ people, people of color, and the flourishing of all; with his works appearing in Huffington Post Religion, The Root, Believe Out Loud, and The Salt Collective. Rev. Richardson has received awards and commendations for his service, including the Humanitarian Award from Black Transmen Inc. and the Stellar Award for his work in global communication.

Author Bill Mathis shares his story of growing up as a preacher's son in a very conservative evangelical home. Bill recounts his experiences struggling with deep depression and two failed marriages before finally discovering he was gay at the age of 64.

Spring Opara is a creator and designer of the self-care for Black Women in Leadership program, currently housed at CompassPoint Nonprofit Services in Oakland, CA. Spring is an advent anime junkie, a healer alchemist, and identifies as non-binary and a witch. Amy joined the WYS podcast host Genia to tell her story of sobering up, immediately addressing her bipolar disorder diagnosis, and becoming a mental wellness advocate.
