Send us a textThe recovery journey begins with a simple truth: addiction isn't about substances—it's about escape. I spent years trying to run from pain, from reality, from myself. But as I discovered, no matter where I went, I took myself with me.My path through the 12 steps wasn't smooth. I approached recovery with skepticism and pride, resistant to the process. What I didn't realize was how deeply the lies I told myself ran. The most profound shift came when someone bluntly told me, "Maybe this isn't about you." Those words cut through years of self-centeredness and changed everything. I had been given something freely, but wasn't passing it on.Recovery transformed more than my substance use—it rebuilt my entire life. Though not overnight. Some relationships mended while others ended, finances stabilized after years of chaos, and most importantly, I found a community of people who genuinely care. The contrast between my life then and now is stark. Where I once dreaded waking up, I now look forward to each day. Where I once was isolated, I now connect. Where I once ran from reality, I now face life with tools and support. For those struggling with addiction—whether actively using or physically sober but emotionally unwell—know that you're not alone. True success isn't about perpetually chasing happiness but finding peace and joy. Recovery offers a pathway there. It's not always easy, but it works. You're just one decision away from a different life. If something in my story resonates with you, please reach out. Visit SuccessfulLifePodcast.com or message me on social media. In this episode of the Redeeming Truth Podcast, Pastors Todd Burgett, Dale Thackrah, Jason Stinson, Darrell Harrison, and Dave Jordan sit down to explore a type of rest far deeper than just taking a day off—soul rest through Jesus Christ. Drawing from passages like Matthew 11, Hebrews 4, Isaiah 26, and Acts 2, the pastors discuss how true rest is not about inactivity or escape, but a spiritual reality grounded in the finished work of Christ. Together, they unpack what it means to rest in God's promises, how to fight anxiety with gospel truth, and why fellowship, humility, and biblical community are vital in experiencing lasting peace.
SUMMARY: The conversation is centered around Lisa Espinoza's experience with child loss, focusing on her son, Chandler. Lisa shares that Chandler was adventurous and lived life fully, participating in various activities and sports. Chandler had a philosophy of life and was deeply affectionate and protective of others, never meeting a stranger. Lisa recounts the tragic accident that led to Chandler's passing and the subsequent 18 days of struggle before his death on January 1, 2019. The grief process for Lisa involved accepting the loss, processing pain, adjusting to life without Chandler, and maintaining a connection with him. She emphasizes the importance of not minimizing grief and allowing oneself to feel all emotions, including anger and sorrow. Lisa discusses honoring Chandler's memory through writing a book and helping others who have experienced similar loss. She finds joy in simple moments and believes in the possibility of joy coexisting with grief. Lisa encourages others to accept help from friends and community and to remain open to moments of joy. The conversation concludes with a focus on finding purpose and meaning after loss and the importance of inviting joy into one's life. PODCAST INTRO: Guest, Lisa Espinoza is an author, coach and a speaker. She stops by the show today to share her personal story of child loss, grief and finding joy even in the midst of great pain. The process of grief is as different as the person it comes upon but none-the-less we can find incredible value because shared story is how grieving hearts find encouragement. Child loss is an indescribable pain that no parent wishes to be part of. For Lisa, the loss of her son Chandler was a life-altering event that reshaped her world in countless ways. Lisa shares a heartfelt conversation of her experiences, providing us with a glimpse into a love that will never end coupled with the grief that accompanies the loss of a child. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the unwavering belief in the power of connection both with having Christ as your foundation and staying connected to life by way of offering practices of remembrance whether that be spontaneously and deliberately. You'll hear Lisa's reflection on Chandler's adventurous spirit, the kind of person who embraced life with open arms and an open heart. Chandler was one of the four children that Lisa and her husband have (and I do say have because the fact that Chandler is their son will never change)…, a son who brought joy and chaos in equal measure (If you're raising boys you'll know exactly what she's talking about when she shares those examples). You'll definitely see that Chandler lived life to the fullest. The journey of grief is a roller coaster ride at best, yet it is also a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Lisa's approach to grief involved reclining in the Lord and trusting Him to be with her through the dark valley. With God beside her, she decided to embrace the pain and allowed herself to feel deeply. She talked about other healthy ways of processing emotions and pain whether through counseling, writing, or simply sitting with the emotions; maybe with trusted friend who can bear that type of weight (in a healthy way). By accepting the loss and finding ways to adjust to a world without Chandler, Lisa not only finds encouragement for each day but peace and dare I say it (in this context of grief), she finds joy that honors her son's adventurous spirit. In her quest to find meaning amidst the sorrow, Lisa found purpose in helping others navigate their grief (her coaching services). Her writings, initially shared on a blog, became a source of comfort for many, offering a candid and raw portrayal of her journey. Through her words, Lisa provides a lifeline to those who feel isolated in their pain, reinforcing the knowledge that they are not alone. Because of the response she was receiving from her blog posts, she decided to published her story and it is now available to anyone who would love to be encourage (link below). Her story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, the possibility of joy and connection can light the way forward. Lisa Espinoza's story is a poignant testament to the enduring power of love and the human capacity to heal and find meaning amidst profound loss. Her journey through grief is a beacon of hope, showing that even in the face of unimaginable pain, you are never alone and you can trust God to know the way through. I can't say I've always felt like an outcast, but it was a prevailing burden in my psyche's coming of age and has become a dominant theme by which I navigate emotional existence. Truth be told, living on the periphery is a house with its own charm and challenges...mostly charm...still some challenges, but not enough challenges to permanently evacuate my charming house.

This disconnection creates what he calls "heartache"—not caused by trauma, but by forgetting our way home to ourselves. With remarkable clarity, Erasmus guides us through his eight-step process for complete wellness, addressing everything from internal awareness to physical health to our relationship with nature. He describes life itself as solar energy—sunlight stored in molecular bonds, released in our cells as the unconditional love that powers every function in our bodies. When we reconnect with this energy, we naturally feel fulfilled and shift from self-centered striving to service-oriented living. Most powerfully, Erasmus offers practical guidance for bringing our focus back inside through simple stillness practices. He challenges the notion that more doing is the answer to our problems, suggesting instead that deliberate time for being—connecting with our inner essence—transforms every aspect of our lives, from health choices to relationships to our impact on the environment.Whether you're seeking better physical health, emotional balance, or deeper meaning, this conversation offers a roadmap to wellness that begins not with changing what's outside, but with remembering what's already within.Support the showPlease rate & review my podcast with a few kind words on Apple or Spotify. Send us a textEver felt like no matter how much you accomplish, it's never enough? You're not alone. Ambition—that driving force behind achievement—can sometimes lead us into what I call "the unintentional abyss of ambition," where periods of stillness or rest become sources of self-criticism rather than rejuvenation. In this deeply personal episode, I share my own recent struggles with feeling insufficient despite evidence to the contrary. Drawing on Dr. Ben Hardy's powerful concept of "the gap and the gain," we explore why high performers often measure themselves against idealized standards (the gap) rather than acknowledging how far they've come (the gain). Through real examples—from marathon runners fixating on qualifying times rather than celebrating personal records, to my own tendency to overlook the transformative impact of my work because I haven't reached arbitrary numeric goals—we unpack this common mindset trap. The most powerful moment comes from a community member who lost 30 pounds and completely transformed his relationship with discipline. His journey from believing change was impossible to creating sustainable healthy habits for himself and his family perfectly illustrates the power of living in "the gain." I also recommend Byron Katie's book "Loving What Is: The Work" as a resource for questioning the stories we tell ourselves and optimizing our way of being rather than just our external achievements.Whether you're building a business, pursuing fitness goals, or working on personal growth, this episode will help you recognize when you're falling into the gap and give you practical tools to shift your perspective. Remember, you are special and amazing—don't let ambition blind you to that truth. The episode also delves into maintaining a positive mindset, backed by scripture, and the significance of seeking Jesus for peace and emotional support. I also provide practical tips for solo parents, such as asking for help and establishing routines.
