Tom and Ann are husband and wife, both of whom served in the military.Ann's father who served in the Second World War did not speak about his experience in that time. She knew very little and what she did hear came from other people, and so she was not sure how true the events were. In her curiosity she wrote to the MOD to find out more about his time, the MOD replied and Tom reads some of the letter in this audio piece and they talk about the time.

Tom shares his time that he served in the military when he joined at the age of 17, when he signed up with the Royal Engineers.Whilst in the Royal Engineers he learned how to build bridges, and he speaks about his time in Ethiopia building a bridge to bring over supplies to the locals. Although it was not in wartime, peacetime for the Royal Engineers is still an important time to construct infrastructure.
