Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
With a vacation and the Thanksgiving holiday, we ended up taking a little break from recording, meaning Episode 98 was almost two weeks in the making. And trust us when we say, we missed you all dearly, but the break was much needed. Besides, in the gap between episodes, tons of stuff happened in the toys-to-life genre, including a huge rumor that could spell the end of a beloved franchise, but also might mean that a certain company brings back the dragons. We start the show by catching up on what we’ve missed the last couple of weeks, including our Thanksgiving holidays and a trip to Southern California to visit friend of the show Brett, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. A lot has happened in our lives since the last episode, and while most of it has nothing to do with the toys-to-life topics, it was important for us to get our groove back, as they say. Getting to the news round-up, we start off by talking about the elephant in the room, Skylanders. With a separated Wave 3 slowly making its way to retailers, and a new chase variant being discovered, the biggest news came in the form of a credible rumor detailing the alleged cancellation of the Skylanders franchise. While it is still a rumor, and should be taken with a grain of salt, we do our best to breakdown what we know, don’t know, and expect from the allegations. After that, we break down the upcoming release of the four Legend of Zelda amiibo this coming Friday. We also discuss the success rate of fans getting Green Arrow figures for LEGO Dimensions, as well the unpredictability of Arthur Parsons. Finally, we gush non-stop about Beasts of Balance, which we finally have in our hands, because it’s so beautiful, and amazing, and fun, and thrilling, and … did I say beautiful? Yeah, Beasts of Balance is everything we hoped for, and then some. From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener (or two!) a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We skip the Inquire This! segment this week, sadly. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always! All this, and more, only in Episode 98! With the legendary Okami turning 10 in North America this week, Michael Grimm joins us for a look at five cel-shaded games that - partly because of their graphics, and partly because of their forward-thinking design - still hold up alongside modern games. We then speak with special guest Arthur Parsons of TT Games about the second year of LEGO Dimensions, touch lightly on the Digital Homicide debacle, and look at the classic games you'd like to see turned into crazy neon caricatures of themselves.
