In this episode of JOY over Happiness, Dr. Jon Eckert talks with Dr. Lindsay Whorton, President of the Holdsworth Center and author of A New School Leadership Architecture, about why the future of school leadership depends less on superheroes and more on sustainable systems. Drawing on her work with districts across Texas, Lindsay shares how schools can rethink leadership roles to better support teachers, develop future leaders, and create conditions where both educators and students can flourish. From building cultures of ownership instead of buy-in to creating leadership structures that distribute responsibility rather than concentrate it, this conversation explores how schools can meet growing challenges without burning out the people doing the work.Mentioned:A New School Leadership Architecture: A Four-Level Framework for Reimagining Roles by Lindsay WhortonMiddlemarch by George EliotInside the Box: How Constraints Make Us Better by David EpsteinConnect with us:Center for School Leadership at Baylor UniversityLinkedInBaylor MA in School Leadership

The PhilenApocalypse is back and this time cannabis comic Ngaio Bealum is here to witness it! This year Philena takes a swipe at super heroes just as their box office fortunes are starting to wane. Her first pick puts the trans in transgressive as trans femme comedian Vera Drew violates all manner of copyrights with THE PEOPLE'S JOKER (2022), a stinging satire of Batman and stand-up comedy wrapped in a surprisingly personal coming-of-age tale. It'll all make sense if you just watch it on Tubi, but not before getting your strain recs from Ngaio and Philena. And then Philena goes a little more mainstream with SKY HIGH (2005), a live-action Disney comedy about a high school for superheroes that is floating in the clouds. Philena thought this was something she dreamed up until rediscovering it recently. It does exist! The movie has one of the most loaded casts ever with Kurt Russell, Kelly Preston, Bruce Campbell (!), Lynda Carter (!!), Chloris Leachman (!!!), Mary Elizabeth Winstead + Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald from "The Kids in the Hall"!!! Even with Philena controlling the horizontal and the vertical, she has to endure Ngaio and Bob descending into fanboy talk as they go way too deep into Legion of Super Heroes lore for a while, but Philena was fascinated by the tragic tale of Triplicate Girl and Duo Damsel at least. SKY HIGH is streaming on Disney+. Philena, Ngaio and Bob also discuss the zero-budget hit horror movies BACK ROOMS and OBSESSION. Are the Zoomer YouTubers taking over Hollywood, or is everyone is just sick of super heroes and STAR WARS??? The OMFYS trio entertain and inform as they grasp at answers. You can now hear Ngaio on CROSS-POLINATION, a 2-hour showcase of great music and comedy every Tuesday from 10am to Noon on Sacramento's KUTZ 95.7 FM. You can listen on the web at https://www.kutzfm.org. Hosts: Philena Franklin & Bob Calhoun. Cory Sklar & Greg Franklin are on assignment. Season 6, Episode 754: Excerpt from The Mardi Gras Unmasking where Kara gets a spanking from several men. This is a very smutty erotic fiction novella. What's it about? In this multiple-partner reverse harem BDSM novella, a Mardi Gras party allows the perfect setup for a new Dom to hide his plans from his wife. He orchestrates his grand scheme to fulfill her deepest lusty desires. Love transcends jealousy when Dane gives his wife Kara her secret wish by unmasking her hidden wants in a single blissful evening packed with bountiful sexual pleasure. Much to her delight, and even amidst the rules, and the spanks, the night promises to propel her to the highest sexual heights of her life. Each gratifying encounter keeps Kara blissfully happy all night as she is literally kept in the dark, moaning her way to morning. The Dom/sub life has the couple crossing the boundaries of traditional marriage, but the way of life seems to be the right fit for them. Rich in sexual content, this story follows a loving couple exploring their sexual fantasies safely at home. Kara feels solid that Dane is the right man for her, even as they are embarking on the risky uncharted lifestyle as a dominant and a submissive in the bedroom--just one year into their marriage. The question is, will Kara enjoy the full reveal in the unmasking of the masquerade? This book contains light BDSM. Some might say dubious consent, but he knows exactly what she wants. Are our favorite superheroes just modern myths—or are they clues that we were made for something more? In this episode, cold-case detective and Christian apologist J. Warner Wallace takes you on a deep dive into the "theology of superheroes." Drawing from Marvel, DC, and other comic-book universes, J. Warner explores how the attributes we assign to our heroes—unlimited power, knowledge, justice, mercy, sacrificial love, and even "friendly neighborhood" presence—mirror the classic attributes of God described in Christian scripture and theology. Why do we long for an all-powerful but good savior? Why do stories about incorruptible heroes, just vigilantes, and self-sacrificing champions move us so deeply? And what if our obsession with superheroes isn't an escape from reality, but evidence of a deeper, God-shaped longing we can't shake? Along the way, J. Warner connects specific heroes and scenes—from street-level protectors to godlike cosmic beings—to the eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, just, loving, and present God of the Bible, and builds a cumulative case that our stories are echoing a much older, truer Story. If you find this episode helpful, please subscribe and leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, or wherever you listen. Your reviews help more people discover the show and think clearly about faith, culture, and the evidence for Christianity.

Show notes provided by Joe PelusoThis trip to Joe's Comics' Corner transports us a thousand years into the future and then like sling-shooting around the Sun (Star Trek IV), way back to the sizzling sixties. If our heads are spinning, it's not so much from the voyage through time, but rather the joyful discovery of two classic comics that accompanied us on our journey! Yes, James and Joe are back "at the corner" perusing the newsstand and findingtwo rare gems--Adventure Comics #369 and #370. This is the pair of Silver Age Legion of Super-Heroes stories that introduces the mad, menacing, maniacal, magician--MORDRU! Written by then a teen age Jim Shooter, and pencilled and inked by Curt Swan and Jack Abel, this two parter is a quintessential package of all the verve, outrageousness, silliness, and far out fun that the scintillating sixties offered on a regular basis. From the rare retelling of a character's first appearance we never saw, to themind-blowing (for James) meeting of Lana Lang--Insect Queen, to the sleepy hamlet of Smallville and the terrifying flight from Mordru's sorcery, this one has it all! Oh, did I mention the teen angst? Yup it's all there amidst the struggle to survive in a past era that's unlike anything from the far-flung future of the 30th century. Oh a word to the wise: The next time you visit the Kent's homedon't sneak down to the basement--you might not make it back up the stairs!
The Mortal Kombat II movie came out… several weeks ago, apparently, but MK Fever is still raging at Zero Issues Central! We finally all saw the movie, so now it’s time to talk all about it! Does it hold up to the mighty 1995 Klassic? What characters and fights were a flawless fatality or a fatal blow to the series? And what of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage? And our favourite character, Cole Young!? But we’ve got a lot more Kombat to Konversate about! We dig into tournaments as a storytelling function, their long history in comics, games, and movies, and the ever-present shadow of “Enter the Dragon”. We match up some Krossover Kombatants, pitting the MK Krew against comic heroes, then dig into the history of Mortal Kombat comics… which is still mostly Malibu’s 1990s MK line, so why hasn’t anyone else done much with this franchise since? And we have a Casting Call for a whole bunch of MK characters — but they have to be actors from John Carpenter movies! That’s right, we’ve got “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as Johnny Cage! James Hong as Shang Tsung! Keith David as Scorpion! Wilford Brimley as Kano! Ernest Borgnine as Goro! And that’s just the tip of the Event Tower. Direct Download: MP3
Walaupun nggak sebombastis film-film layar lebar Spider-Man, this one has its own charms, and we were charmed. Vibe noir yang kentel, story yang bikin penasaran, dan performance Nic Cage yang hypnotic semuanya bikin series ini keren banget. Simak pembahasannya di PretelinPanel kali ini!

It's a rare two-hander this week, folks! Aaron and Bob are holding down the fort while Joey earns his first Father of the Year Award, John transforms into a human car, and Steve is busy talking to Elijah Wood! What will Aaron and Bob discuss? You'll need to listen to find out! I bet it's comics! The discussion dolls into the complexities of comic book sales tracking, the impact of speculation on the market and a passionate discussion on the enduring importance of engaging storytelling and fostering new generations of readers. We also discussed our memorial Day weekend movie viewing recommendations, particularly how Bob chose patriotism while Aaron chose violence.
