Send us a textBack in the 1980s, everyone, and I mean everyone, was trying to spread one simple message: Drugs Are Bad! There were a ton of PSAs telling kids to leave narcotics alone. Celebrities said to stay clean, and networks invested in one off specials to keep kids from taking one toke over the line. Or any tokes for that matter. Here now is the nexus of these specials, a hybrid of PSAs, The Flintstone Kids, and a certain gloved singer who was high... on the charts at this time. Its The Flintstone Kids "Just Say No" special.Enjoy, and be sure to listen sober. Wink. Thanks for ‘tooning in. This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we recap our attendance at the Adelaide Mega Toy Fair event. This annual event promotes itself for its long running campaign; but with new organisers this year, how did it actually go? We chat towards what we spotted, what we think needs to be improved & what we scored!! Spoiler alert: Pub Lunch & making a day of it with great friends, is always the overall highlight!! Then Trent does an awesome Toyline Retrospective on the early 80's franchise that was: Blackstar! With a Filmation Cartoon airing first in 1981; then a corresponding Toyline from Galoob in 1983! Featuring the fight between our Hero: John Blackstar against the Evil Ruler: Overlord on the Planet Sagar. This Toyline & franchise actually has more ties to Masters Of The Universe than one may think.... There are some EPIC Beasts, questionable modes of transport & the incredibly sort after Ice Castle Playset - this Franchise really tried hard & its interesting to think in a sliding doors parallel reality - could this have been a more popular franchise than Masters Of The Universe?! Then rounding out the episode, we squeeze a quick round table, around some of our Latest Scores! Also, as mentioned in this ep; be sure to checkout the incredibly comprehensive website from Avon Fox - around all the Vintage style Transforming Robots that aren't Hasbro branded! - www.the-liberator.netSupport the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Shauna shares her upcoming cosplay plans, while Olivia shares her musical revenge against a petty neighbor, and they both wonder if the podcast is becoming a little too murder-y (or is it just murder-y enough?) Then it's time to preview the films that will be keeping them both indoors during the heat (or fog) this summer. Olivia's looking forward to the film that may just revive the romcom, while Shauna has her eyes on some high-profile superhero reboots, and both plan to take in at least one of the summer's inevitable sequels.
Kelly and Leandra finally realize what is wrong with Dr. Scott and it *transforms* their understanding of the role. They also hate on an extremely hate-able author, love an extremely lovable hairstyle, and question a questionable makeup choice.Yee? Haw? Concluding (for now) our look at the saga of Kyle Rayner, the last of the Green Lantern Corps (for the ‘90s, at least). Just when Kyle finally thinks he's proved himself for all time as a worthy owner of the power ring, his future comes into question when a trip to the 30th century reveals the Legion of Super-Heroes have no record of his career as Green Lantern. His position isn't much more secure in the 20th century after he picks up an unplanned stowaway on his travels through time: a novice Hal Jordan. By the time Parallax shows up, all our emerald gladiators have to confront their legacies for better or for worse. As we wrap up, we'll also talk about the real-world legacy of the character and comic in the wake of Hal Jordan's more permanent return in Geoff Johns' Green Lantern: Rebirth.Discussed in this episode: Green Lantern #95-106, plus crossover issues of Green Arrow and The Flash. We could use a little green ourselves! In this episode, we sit down with veteran writer/editor Tom Peyer for a career-spanning conversation that traces his remarkable journey from underground cartoonist to one of today's most innovative publishers. Beginning with his early years in underground papers and the Syracuse New Times, we delve into his pivotal editorial years at DC and Vertigo during the transformative 90s era. Tom shares insights from his beloved tenure on Legion of Super-Heroes, his creative vision for reviving Hourman, and his collaborative process with writers like Mark Waid. We spend a lot of time on AHOY Comics, the company that Tom co-founded and now leads as EIC, discussing its original vision and evolution into a unique voice in today's market. Through titles like The Wrong Earth, Tom has masterfully deconstructed superhero tropes, and he shares his perspective on the current comics industry landscape. You can follow Tom everywhere from Instagram @tombobpeyer to Bluesky @tompeyer.bsky.social.
