Why do we allow some games, even ones we enjoy, to drop off and go on the back burner? And why do some get picked up again and not others? It is mysterious, much like why designers continue to insert terrible "comic relief" characters in games like Okami. What We're Playing01:03 Caitlin: Dead Letter Department (Belief Engine, 2025)08:50 Mark: Suit for Hire (Godmode Interactive, 2025)18:34 GOOF: Okami (Clover Studio, 2006)44:13 Feature Topic: Dropping Off, Picking UpSHOUT1:09:10 Caitlin: Dispatch (AdHoc Studio)1:10:06 Mark: Enter the Gungeon Mobile (Dodgeroll)Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Before diving into the depths of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, we take a detour to return to Blue Prince now that Nick has given himself to the game. Brad talks about the new Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update and highlights Chronicles of the Wolf; a well made homage to classic Castlevania. Chris Davis surprises the group with a game off his extensive backlog (**It's Okami**) and Krispy hit the road recently so he got to spend some time with Mario Kart World, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Unicorn Overlord on his Nintendo Switch 2! Today, we're pulling back the curtain on one of the most enchanting ways to experience Japan - staying at a ryokan. If you've ever dreamed of sleeping on tatami mats, slipping into a steaming onsen, or savoring a multi-course kaiseki dinner crafted with local, seasonal ingredients - a ryokan stay is the ultimate expression of Japanese hospitality and tradition. To help us explore this beautiful corner of Japanese culture, I'm joined by two very special guests: Ms. Ritsuko Nakamura, the okamisan, or head of Ryokan Kurashiki, and Ms. Kumi Sato, the okamisan of Takachiho Ryokan Shinsen. In Japan, the okami-san holds a deeply respected role, preserving centuries-old customs and caring for guests with a level of warmth and grace that words alone can't fully capture. It's rare to hear directly from these remarkable women, so while they may have been a little nervous, they were truly excited to share with you. I hope you'll lean in and savor this unique chance to hear about Japan's ryokan tradition. We talk about what makes a ryokan stay so transformative, from the seasonal beauty outside your window to the artful simplicity within. If you're planning a trip to Japan, or simply curious about the Japanese art of slowing down, this episode is for you. Let's step inside. Looking to book a luxury hotel? I agree with everyone that says this game is stunning to look at and the soundtrack is superb. It's creative and tells a story. Honestly, I like almost everything about Okami. Except, playing it... It definitely has some Zelda DNA in it and that isn't a bad thing at all. You're solving puzzles, acquiring power-ups, running through fields. You get to play as a wolf which is rad. I just didn't find the actual gameplay mechanics that interesting. The paintbrush mechanic is sic, but I feel it was under utilized. The combat is kinda boring. And while the writing is really solid (and funny), there's just a little too much of it. My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week. He's a Zelda diehard and liked Okami a little more than I did. I thought it was a work of art that I just didn't want to play, whereas Bradley thought it lived up to the Zelda DNA coursing through its veins. We had a pretty good discussion about this one, so whether you love this game or not, I hope/think you'll enjoy this episode. And before we try to get Issun laid, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what console has the best ratio of good games to bad in its library? Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I have been wanting to talk about poker video games for about 200 episodes now, and finally decided to spoil myself (thanks Flanders) and dedicate an episode of the show to the video game ports of the card game I love so much. It's too bad they kinda suck. I think you could fire up World Series of Poker today and be pretty underwhelmed. It's ugly, the career mode is pretty thin, and the AI is trash. But back in 2005 when I fell in love with poker and didn't have the bankroll to play at the casino, this was where I got my fix when I couldn't get a home game together. I have a soft, soft spot in my heart for not only the WSOP video games, but WPT and Stacked as well, and I get into all of them this week in a rare solo episode. And before I shuffle up and deal, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I've ever written any jokes about gaming for my comedy act? In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo has been updating their user licensing agreement for Nintendo Switch Online, and not surprisingly, they want to punish people for violating their terms and conditions. If you're caught modding, hacking, reverse engineering, or doing a number of other things to their hardware or software, Nintendo reserves the right to render your Nintendo device "unusable in whole or in part." In other words: they'll brick your Switch or presumably your Switch 2. Oh, and they may listen in on your Switch Online voice chats, too. In other news, famed game designer Hideki Kamiya wants to go back to his hit 2001 action game, Devil May Cry. The game spawned a successful franchise, but Kamiya definitely sees how dated the gameplay is. After he's done rebooting Okami for Capcom, he'd like a shot at Devil May Cry (not counting the reboot DmC, which he was not a part of). And finally, the next installment in the Godzilla x Kong series is in production, with a 2027 release date. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova suggest a space theme, and we might finally get an appearance from SpaceGodzilla.

Today, we're painting a picture of Ōkami, the 2006 action-adventure game that transformed Japanese mythology into a living watercolor masterpiece. We begin by exploring how Hideki Kamiya, fresh off titles like Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe, sought to create something more peaceful and healing—an idea that evolved into a game about the sun goddess Amaterasu, reborn as a white wolf. Then, we'll trace the game's journey from technical struggles and uncertain direction to the moment of inspiration that led to its unique art style and the creation of the Celestial Brush mechanic. Finally, we'll reflect on Ōkami's legacy, from its initial commercial struggles to its critical acclaim, cult following, and long-awaited sequel now in development. So, grab your brush and join us as we restore color to the world on today's trip down Memory Card Lane! Find out more at https://a-trip-down-memory-card-lane.pinecast.co

In today's Daily Fix: Elden Ring Nightreign's network tests have had a rough start. Players trying to get into the multiplayer-centric spinoff weren't able to in some cases. The issues were so bad that developer FromSoftware may extend the window that the tests will be available. In other news, IGN had an extensive interview with the creators of Okami 2, confirming that yes, this is a direct sequel to the PS2-era Okami, and dropping some other juicy bits of info as well. And finally, Astro Bot continues to win bit at awards shows, taking home some big ones at last night's DICE Awards. And there's more Astro Bot coming, with a new level available now, and more on the way.

Capcom had a pretty awesome spotlight. Granted - lots of stuff from last year, but announcing demos for a lot of them was very cool. Personally, I got the main thing I wanted which was more info about Onimusha. Plus we got more eyes on with Capcom Fighting Collection 2 (which I couldn't remember the name of because ya boy started running again and I made the mistake of doing it too close to recording time. Find me here: a little breathless, thirsty and apparently woozy - BUT I'LL GET GUD I SWEAR). Beyond those two games, of course we should all be excited for Okami 2 and most of us are very excited by the new Monster Hunter. Other whoozy brain farts (new band name): The Don Lee movies I was talking about Binging was the Round Up franchise. Very Fun, just solid cop movie shit and Don Lee is a tank as always. This franchise has the added benefit that many of the great Korean character actors are featured through out and you'll recognize them all over Korean cinema and TV after you watch this.

We're back from the holiday break, and we've been diving into some incredible games! Carrie has joined the crew in tackling the epic Metaphor ReFantazio. We share our impressions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Okami HD. The PEGI ratings board delivers a hilariously misguided content rating for Balatro. Meanwhile, we discuss the surprising revelation that at least one NFL owner uses Madden NFL Football to evaluate player acquisitions. Finally, we explore why publishers are more likely to take lessons from the failure of Concord than the success of Marvel Rivals.

What a week! The Game Awards came and went but they left a trail of insane game announcements in their wake. We try our best to cover the highlights including Okami 2, a new game from Fumito Ueda, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and more! Unfortunately, we eventually ran into some poorly timed internet troubles so our broadcast (and this recording) took a hit. When we get those sorted out (for now), we jump into impressions of Marvel Rivals and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle! The Game Awards 2024 have concluded and they were quite the showcase this year. For the 10th anniversary, Geoff Keighley pulled out all the stops with some amazing reveals such as Naughty Dog's next game, the return of Okami, The Witcher 4 announcement and much more. We review NetEase's new game Marvel Rivals. This is pretty much an Overwatch clone but brings a lot of new features that Overwatch is lacking in a polished and fun hero shooter experience in third person. Featuring over 33 heroes and villians, this game is a blast to play.As we near 1 year with Helldivers, the Illuminates have finally arrived and we dive into the frontlines to fight back. It's a new foe that throws new challenges our way. We also talk about live services games and what makes them successful like Helldivers 2.Lastly, Secret Level is finally out in part 1. We review the first half of the anthology series from the creators of Love, Death and Robots featuring short animations from games like Sifu, Crossfire, Unreal Tournament and more.Show Notes:1:13 - Housekeeping3:17 - The Game Awards 2024 Reactions53:47 - Marvel Rivals Review1:22:07 - The Illuminates are Here: Looking Back on the Year of Helldivers 21:50:32 - Secret Level Part 1 Review2:08:27 - What Makes a Live Service Successful?2:34:28 - Upcoming Video Game Releases Become a part of the conversation! Geoff Keighley's 'The Game Awards' festivities didn't disappoint this year. Quite the contrary, it was arguably the single strongest showing of new game announcements the industry has seen in seemingly forever, and it was capped-off with what many of us have long awaited: Naughty Dog's new game. For the first time since 2005's Jak X: Combat Racing on PlayStation 2, Sony's crown jewel studio is readying a product that's aligned neither with Uncharted nor The Last of Us. It's called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it's about a spacefaring bounty hunter and a mysterious alien planet, and it's coming to PlayStation 5 at an undetermined point in the future. Naturally, we have much to discuss. Other TGA announcements of note include a surprise update for Helldivers 2, Capcom reveals in the form of new games in the Onimusha and Okami series, a brand new multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off called Nightreign, our first look at Borderlands 4 and The Witcher IV, the long-awaited revival of the Turok IP, the first new 2D Ninja Gaiden in more than three decades, and much more. And there's a regular ol' episode of Sacred Symbols underneath all of that, too, focused on the purported leak of Bend Studio's new game, the death of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a serious lawsuit filed against Bungie by a fired executive, final word on long-defunct vaporware PS4 project Wild, and more. We wrap things up with listener inquiries on topics like rumors of an upcoming Steam console, parasocial relationships in the creator space, the ability of dialogue to ruin a perfectly good user experience, and a conundrum surrounding perpetual hiccups and $100 million. Its that time of year once again! We have the game awards and with that we have a whole set of new games announced to look forward to. From a new Elden Ring experience, to classics being brought to the modern era with Onimusha and Okami. There are a lot of great looking games coming soon. We just hope that we wont have to wait too long to get our hands on these. ------------------ Hosts: Christian & Chris Don't forget to leave us a cheeky review and we will read them on the show. Tell your friends that they need some GlitchCube in their life.
After a disastrous showing in 2023, Geoff Keighley and his team put together arguably their best show for the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards! While not perfect, major issues with pacing, presenters, and speech time seemed to be ironed out. It also doesn't hurt that the show was chockful of insane announcements. Of course, we get into The Black Rock who is delivering not just one, but two massive RPGs in a single year thanks to The Outer Worlds 2, but also a staggering list of other games. An Okami sequel is real as is Naughty Dog's new sci-fi IP. Onimusha is back as is a new IP for Yakuza developer, RGG. They're not just working on Project Century at RGG, but also reviving Virtua Fighter. Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, massive showing in their own right, end up as footnotes due to the seismic amount of announcements packed into this show. The list goes on much longer than that, but we'll leave you a little something to listen to now. Enjoy!
