Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: January 05, 2022This episode of Weird Darkness opens over the north Atlantic in May 1963, where a NATO English-language secretary based in Paris, flying on a near-empty DC-8 carrying fifty staff from Orly Airport to ministerial meetings in Ottawa, looked from her window and saw a dark grey, torpedo-shaped object six to seven thousand feet below the plane — its rear cut off sharply and squarely, with no wings, windows, or visible propulsion — before it vanished into cloud and the aircraft dropped into violent turbulence. Terrified and certain no one else aboard had noticed, she said nothing for almost twenty years, until a 1980 letter to Flying Saucer Review brought the account to light and the magazine published it the following year. The segment threads her sighting into a longer record of cigar-shaped craft: Melvin Vagle Jr. and his wife spotting a windowed object hovering over a plowed field near Grafton, Nebraska on November 22, 1961; Miss Footner tracking a silver, hundred-foot craft over Saanich Mountain near Victoria, British Columbia in early 1960; Reverend Lionel Browning and his wife photographing a grey mothership over Cressy, Tasmania on October 4, 1960 as smaller discs darted out of the clouds and explosions later shook nearby houses; RCMP Constable James Blackwood watching a cigar-shaped object near Clarenville, Newfoundland on November 26, 1978 mirror his patrol car's flashing lights for nearly two hours; a couple camping at Hexham, New South Wales in late December 1984 seeing discs swarm a lit craft that seemed to carry a helmeted figure; and an anonymous Swedish driver on Route 55 near Orsundsbro in June 1985 stepping out of her car to study a windowed craft she first mistook for a police helicopter.From there the episode crosses to England, where the night of November 16, 1963 brought four teenagers walking home from a dance past Sandling Park near Hythe, Kent face to face with a human-sized, headless creature with wings on its back; seventeen-year-old John Flaxton and eighteen-year-old Mervyn Hutchinson had first watched a bright gold oval descend behind the trees, and Flaxton felt a sudden, unexplained cold as the thing came at them through the woodland. The same evening in Saltwood, Tony Harrison and three companions saw a glowing oval and a figure in a scarlet cloak holding a flickering lantern, and within days John McGoldrick discovered three giant footprints, each roughly two feet long, near the spot where Keith Croucher had reported an identical object over a football field. The story then opens out into a year-long British wave: a flying saucer interfering with a woman's car headlights near Bluebell Hill in Kent; two men setting up a tripod that fired colored lights into the sky over the Britannia Barracks in Norwich; a market researcher named Joelle in Castleton encountering men who claimed to be extraterrestrials with bases on two of Jupiter's moons; and a dome-shaped craft that reportedly landed at RAF Cosford on December 10, washing the base in green light before vanishing. Stranger creatures shared the year — the Surrey Puma and other big cats stalking Shooter's Hill in London from July 18, a half-man, half-horse centaur seen in Sefton Park by witnesses including a police officer, a bulldog-headed monster rising beside two fishermen on Loch Ness, and a dinosaur-like animal that scattered seals along Cardigan Bay and left a half-eaten carcass behind. The episode closes on a darker thread of occult activity: two children found playing with a human skull taken from the ruined St. Mary's Church at Clophill in Bedfordshire, where Maltese crosses, cockerel feathers, and six tampered women's graves were uncovered; six decapitated horse heads and a cow, their jaws wrenched apart, discovered in Bluebell Woods at Caddington; clay effigies pierced with thorns and a sheep's head studded with thirteen thorns nailed up at Castle Rising in Norfolk; and a group of self-styled Devil worshippers interrupted mid-ritual at an active church in Westham, Sussex on December 7 — all set against a 1963 that began with one of the worst winters on record, claimed Labour leader Hugh Gaitskell and the poet Sylvia Plath, saw Ian Brady and Myra Hindley begin the Moors murders, and ended weeks after the assassination of President Kennedy.

Tonight's guest, Tim, lives in Florida, but he was born and raised in the mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania where he did an extensive amount of hunting, fishing, and trapping. At a young age, Tim joined the U.S. Army and served as an infantryman. While he was serving our country, at Fort Carson, in Colorado, he had his first of 4 Bigfoot sightings. When he had his first sighting, he observed a family of Sasquatch, at a distance, through the optics of a missile-guided anti-tank system that was mounted on the armored personnel carrier he was in, at the time. Tonight's first guest, Josh, had his first Bigfoot sighting around 2002, in Davis County Kentucky. At the time, he was helping his uncle clear a treeline on a property he owned with his bulldozer. The property had a lot of hills and deep ravines, because his property was close to where the Ohio River river bottoms started. Josh and his uncle had been working for some time when, all of a sudden, Josh heard a tremendous roar ring out behind him. The roar was so loud, it was easy to hear over all the noise his uncle's bulldozer was making. Josh turned to look for the source of the sound and saw animals scattering, so he knew he wasn't the only one who had heard the roar. Not knowing what to make of it, he turned back and continued watching his uncle operate the bulldozer. About 10 minutes later, Josh felt a creepy feeling coming over him, so he turned around again to see if he could determine what might have been causing that. When he turned to look, his eyes fell upon an old barn that was sitting just inside the tree line and 50 to 60 yards behind him. To his shock, standing in the doorway of the barn was a huge figure, leaning out of the doorway, looking right at Josh. Immediately, Josh told himself that what he was looking at didn't exist in Kentucky. You could only find Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest. His eyes told him a different story, however…Tonight's second guest, Jason Monk, had his Bigfoot sighting in 1994, about 10 miles south of Samson, Alabama. You see, when he was 16 years old, his step-dad and his uncle used to take him deer hunting in a stand of woods close to the Florida line, just north of the Pea River. When Jason, his step-dad, and uncle went to that stand of woods to scope it out, before season started, they would notice strange things. One day, in December, a few weeks before Jason's 17th birthday, Jason had fallen asleep in his tree stand. The tree he was in was swaying in the breeze that day. Considering how drowsy Jason was, from being up before the crack of dawn, that just helped an already drowsy kid fall asleep. Jason doesn't know how long he had been asleep when, all of a sudden, he heard a loud snap, like something was coming through the reeds. Tonight's guest, Mike Tornincasa, started out as a paranormal investigator, but due to a series of experiences he had while doing field investigations in places with a history of paranormal events, he's now a paranormal/sasquatch investigator. The first experience he had that might have involved seeing a sasquatch happened about 4 years ago, in an old cemetery, in Ravenna, Ohio. To this day, Mike's not sure what it was that he saw. A few weeks ago, however, he had a clear sighting of a sasquatch. You see, he was doing a livestream for his podcast that night, in Cuyahoga Valley National Forest, in Summit County, Ohio, and wound up seeing an 8-plus-foot-tall sasquatch peek out at him from behind a tree. Mike got the impression the sasquatch wanted him to see it. Needless to say, the experience made quite the impression on Mike. Revelation 13 - The Two Beasts - Don't Give an Inch by Park Community Church

NOTE: In the podcast, I refer to book 1 of this trilogy as The Captive's War, but that is the title of the whole trilogy. Book 1 is called The Mercy of Gods.-------Welcome back, my fellow creatives!Yup, I'm back to looking at the first five pages of various stories, for those five pages can make or break the engagement of a reader--or an agent. So, let's scope out the stories of others to see how they hook an audience!So a huge disclaimer here: I grabbed the second book of a trilogy, which means we are NOT going to see much foundation work in the opening pages. We'll have to hit the ground running, and like it!Frankly, though, that's okay. It was nice to get into some science fiction for a change, and Corey's got a lovely style to his voice. The first couple of pages aren't a prologue per se--more like an historical tidbit akin to all the histories of Paul Moadib that begin the chapters of Dune. That historical bit is only a few paragraphs, but it's almost lyrical in its sadness about a dying world, how it's seen in the crops, fish, and lost voices of the elders. It's a relatable moment: any reader could sense what this would feel like in their culture. Any culture has its feelings about end-times. And this book begins with that bit of foreboding. It doesn't outstay its welcome, either--after a few paragraphs, we move on to the proper first chapter.Now the first couple of pages are all these snippets of librarian records. I was amused by just how many librarians there are--my kind of alien society, I guess. :) I gather that these records allude to things from the first book, so I can't really judge their merits. To Corey's credit, though, the next few pages bring readers up to speed on important past events, such as the failed human rebellion against their alien overlords--and that our human protagonist, Dafyd, was on the side of the aliens. Why? That I can't glean from these opening pages, but I have a feeling Book 1 (The Mercy of Gods) or subsequent pages of Book 2 will tell us. Overall, Corey's got an accessible style, one that balances relatable detail with the unrelatable alien world. If you're looking to jump off Earth for a while, Corey's trilogy is sure to lose you among the stars.And what will we discover in the next story's five pages?We'll have to wait and see. xxxxRead on, share on, and write on, my friends!

In this episode, I sat down with therapist and storyteller Ishara Lee for a conversation about identity, inner child work, manipulation, healing, and what it actually takes to find yourself again after losing who you are inside someone else's version of you. We talked about how we become “a collection of our yesterdays,” the voices we unknowingly carry from other people, and how adulthood is often the process of dismantling who we were taught to be so we can uncover who we actually are. Ishara shared the deeply personal story of losing herself in a controlling relationship during college, the isolation and heartbreak that followed, and the unexpected ways she rebuilt herself through dance, strength training, cosplay, community, and storytelling. Tonight's guest, Donna Copas, is of Shawnee descent and her spirit name is “White Wolf Woman.” Donna was featured on Episodes 480 and 488 and on those shows she talked about the many experiences she's had with the Sasquatch that live on and around her 300-acre farm, in Southeastern Ohio. Her father used to call them “The Watchers” and that's what Donna calls them to this day. There are many Watchers that Donna sees and interacts with, around her property, but the one she has the most affinity for is on she calls Grandfather. You see, Grandfather is an extremely old Sasquatch that used to watch over her father. Now that Donna's father has passed on, Grandfather watches over her. A couple of weeks ago, Donna had a terrifying experience with a rogue Sasquatch that moved into the area. The night it happened, Grandfather and another Sasquatch held the rogue Sasquatch at bay, giving Donna time to flee the area and get to safety. The main reason why Donna has come back to record tonight's show is to talk about what happened that night. The night Grandfather saved her from that rogue Sasquatch.
