Tonight's first guest, Derin Franks, had his Bigfoot sighting in the William B. Bankhead National Forest, in North Alabama, in 2017. It happened on the last day of deer hunting season. Derin had just walked to the edge of a greenfield when he decided to sit down on a log, just inside the tree line. As he sat there, taking everything in, he suddenly heard a limb snap about 12 yards over his right shoulder. When he heard it, he stood up and turned around. When he did, he couldn't believe his eyes…Tonight's second guest, Catman Hero, had his Bigfoot sighting on August 8th, 2016. It happened at a campsite in Middle Tennessee while he was participating in a nighttime field investigation. He was with Randy Hutchings, a very experienced field investigator, and another investigator named Josh.After arriving at the campsite, the three men walked about two to three miles into the woods before Randy, who was leading the investigation, told Catman and Josh to stop. Randy explained that, when he gave the word, he wanted them to turn on their lights and scan the woods for eyeshine.When Randy gave the signal, all three men turned on their lights and began scanning the woods. Almost immediately, Randy and Josh noticed something hiding behind a tree branch. After making it to the parking lot, they suddenly noticed a figure standing near the restrooms, under one of the lights. They yelled at the figure, and when they did, it ran off. As they watched it run away into the deep woods. Tonight's guests, Ray and Lisa Haley, moved to a 3-acre property in the Ozarks of Arkansas back in 2022. For the first year they lived there, nothing unusual happened, largely because they had cleared a significant portion of their property. The following year, however, after letting nature reclaim the cleared land, strange things started to happen.In the summer of 2023, Ray and Lisa were sitting on their back porch when, all of a sudden, they were hit with a very foul odor that smelled like a mixture of death, skunk, and other nasty things. Just moments after that horrible odor appeared, a very loud, guttural scream rang out.When they heard the vocalization, they looked at each other with a “What was that?” expression on their faces. It wasn't long after that before they found out what had been responsible for making that sound.Since that day, they've had ongoing reminders that they aren't alone on their property. On May 20th, 2019, at 9:35 AM, tonight's guest, Matt Lankford, was driving his 18-wheeler south on Highway 84, between Abilene and Coleman, Texas. At the time, he was about two-thirds of the way to Coleman when he looked ahead, to the right side of the highway, and saw what he initially thought was a black bull.As he got closer to the “bull,” the figure moved a short distance. When it did, it moved in such a strange way that its body seemed to undulate. After seeing it move, Matt began to wonder if what he was looking at might actually be a large, black hog.As Matt drew closer, however, his perception of the figure changed again. Now, he wondered if it might be a large man wearing a black arctic suit.When Matt got within a few hundred feet of the figure, though, he realized it wasn't a man. Tonight's guest, Dan Nedrelo, had his first Sasquatch sighting in 2019, but his experiences with them began long before that and took place in several states. In fact, Dan's first experience happened all the way back in 1971, while he was staying at a church camp in Northern Wisconsin. He didn't see the Sasquatch that made its presence known that night, but he certainly heard it. Tonight's guest, Greg Helton, has been investigating the Sasquatch phenomenon for about 30 years. His first sighting happened in Manitou Springs, Colorado. He was on a cliff face, on the eastern side of Williams Canyon, tossing slate rocks over the edge so he could watch them smash on the ground below. After tossing the third rock, he suddenly noticed a black, furry, humanoid-shaped figure moving to his left. When he focused on the figure, he realized that it was looking back at him. Conifers aren't bothered by too many insect pests. That's because the oils that give them that nice pine scent are poisonous. They would be poisonous to the conifer sawfly larva if it digested them, too. But while it munches the pine needles, its body is busy storing the poisonous oils for future defense. The fact that the sawfly not only eats pine needles, but also uses the poisonous oils for defense poses a difficult problem for evolution which appears to have no solution.The sawfly larva's unique ability makes it a serious conifer pest both in North America and Europe. Part of the larva's secret is its digestive system. It separates the poisonous oils in the pine needles from the nutritious pulp. Then it regurgitates the poisonous oils and stores them in two special sacs in its mouth. These sacs are lined with a chitinous material that protects the rest of the mouth from the acidic, poisonous oils. When threatened by a spider or even a bird, the sawfly releases some of this bad-smelling oil in the direction of the threat. This strategy effectively convinces most aggressors to seek a meal somewhere else.The problem for evolution is that these complicated structures and special abilities could not have developed in a gradual, step-by -step fashion as evolution demands. If the sawfly once did not originally eat pine needles, then how did it acquire the special ability to eat them and develop this special defense system?
