It is difficult to overstate the achievements of Richard Clarke Cabot (1868-1939) a relatively little-known, old-moneyed physician of the early 20th century who was far ahead of his time in how much he contributed, and how willing he was to question his own limitations. Cabot's achievements include: creation and self-funding of the first medical social work service and establishment of the fields of clinical pastoral care and medical ethics. His work offered seminal contributions to the fields of hematology, cardiology, infectious disease, and medical education – including the clinical pathologic conference, case-based learning and the differential diagnosis; the first large-scale randomized experiment in the history of criminology; the science of medical error; and introducing the concept of a group insurance plan. He authored countless books, articles and textbooks. Most remarkable, considering Cabot's extraordinary intellect, was his openness to reflecting on his own deficits as a physician, including getting diagnoses wrong, and describing his own failures in seeing the humanity of his patients. Joy, curiosity, and generosity were among his distinctive personal characteristics. So, why is he not more widely remembered? Perhaps because of one of his greatest attributes: he pointed out things about his profession that the medical establishment didn't want to hear.
In this deeply powerful episode, Cathy Sykora sits down with Patty Cabot to talk about her personal journey through eating disorders, stemming from unresolved childhood sexual abuse. Patty shares how her desire to stop fluctuating weight led her to explore a range of therapeutic modalities over a 12-year period. From EMDR and network chiropractic to sex and group therapy, Patty opens up about the emotional and physical transformations she experienced along the way. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the pursuit of healing. Patty's memoir, Not That Girl Anymore, encapsulates her journey and offers a message of encouragement for others dealing with trauma. In this episode, you'll discover: How Patty connected her lifelong weight struggle to childhood trauma The pivotal role EMDR played in her recovery process Insights into alternative therapies like network chiropractic and their emotional impact Why Patty believes food is one of the hardest addictions to manage The emotional breakthrough of releasing shame and self-blame The value and power of group therapy in creating connection and healing How meditation helped align her with her emotions and purpose Memorable Quotes: "It's not my blame, it's not my shame, and it's not my secret to keep." "You do not need another person to achieve closure, and you should not let that be your limitation." "At the bottom of everything for me, there was always hope." Bio: Beginning in her teens, Patty battled drastic weight fluctuations. Desperate to break the cycle and thinking it was what prevented her from meeting men, in her late 30s Patty embarked on a therapeutic journey that led to her unresolved childhood sexual abuse. Over 12 years she worked with her therapist and EMDR, a chiropractor to release trapped “fight or flight” responses, a sex therapist and attended group therapy for sexual abuse. Patty published Not That Girl Anymore, a memoir about the alternative therapies she explored in the hopes of undoing the ruin within to claim the happiness she – and everyone else struggling with trauma – deserves. In this episode of The Distribution, host Brandon Sedloff sits down with Franz Colloredo-Mansfeld, CEO and Chairman of Cabot Properties, for a sweeping conversation on the evolution of the logistics real estate sector. Franz shares his unconventional path into the industry, beginning with a background in history and investment banking, and reflects on the experiences that shaped his leadership at Cabot. From Cabot's early days as a small advisory firm to its current position managing $12 billion in assets across 13 offices worldwide, Franz unpacks the strategic decisions, market cycles, and global expansion efforts that defined the company's growth. He also provides an in-depth look at the structural dynamics of logistics investing, public vs. private ownership models, and why Cabot remains committed to value creation through specialization. They discuss: - How Franz's early exposure to real estate and global finance shaped his leadership style - Why Cabot went public in the late 1990s and what they learned from it - The tailwinds driving institutional investment into logistics real estate - How Cabot has expanded internationally and adapted to global market nuances - Why logistics is increasingly seen as a core real estate allocation with enduring alpha potential This is a valuable episode for investors, operators, and professionals curious about logistics real estate, private equity, and global platform building. Clarification: The number of Cabot offices at the time of publication was 13. You're eating clean, doing all the right things — but still feeling tired, foggy, or unwell? You're not alone. In today's podcast Dr Sandra Cabot chats with Igor Pershin, a health coach and counsellor plus founder of Natural Filters to uncover the hidden reasons why nutrient deficiencies can still show up even when your diet looks “perfect” — and what you can do about it.
Do you need more energy? Do you suffer with persistent or frequent fatigue even though you have a good diet and lifestyle? Has your doctor done tests to check for the cause of your persistent tiredness but found no leads? Do you wake up tired even though you've had a good night's sleep? If so, it is most likely due to your mitochondria. In today's podcast, Dr Cabot talks all about energy. She discusses the types of foods that can cause energy slumps and how to improve our mitchondria(the energy factories of our body). Poor mitochondrial function is very common today due to environmental pollution, microplastics, processed foods and the overuse of certain prescribed medications. If your mitochondria are not working well, you can increase your chances of developing Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, cancer, diabetes, an autoimmune disorder and/or cardiovascular disease. She mentions the specific test you can order to check your mitochondrial function, the risk factors for low energy, the symptoms you can expect, as well as diet and lifestyle changes to improve energy. One of the best romantic tropes out there is "marriage of convenience," but when you add strange dreams of a twin sister you don't actually have and a man trying to take away your stepson, it's hard to convince yourself that this could actually work. Listen in to learn about another problem this couple has to overcome in Amanda Cabot's latest release, Echoes of Sunrise. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. We're headed to Carr Valley and the wonderful characters in some of Cabot's earlier series. Add a bit of suspense to this historical romance and you've got a perfect story for your summer TBR. Echoes of Sunrise by Amanda Cabot A baby to protect. A town to save. Is a marriage of convenience the only answer? Sophia Carr knows her recurring dreams of an identical twin sister are just that - dreams. She also knows that eventually she will inherit the hotel her grandfather built. When a fire at the hotel kills her mother, Sophia returns to Carr Valley to rebuild and ensure that a planned railroad line chooses a route that will keep the town alive. But her grandfather's will states that she must be married to inherit, and the only man she can imagine marrying seems to have forgotten her. Up-and-coming architect Gideon Spencer couldn't say no when his dying friend begged him to marry his widow and raise their baby as his own rather than let a cruel grandfather gain custody. But when the young mother dies, leaving Gideon a single parent, the grandfather poses a new threat unless Gideon manages to marry again. Sadly, the only woman he's interested in is the one he's ignored for six months: Sophia. Knowing he needs to protect the baby, Gideon heads to Carr Valley. When he discovers that Sophia needs a husband as much as he needs a wife, he proposes a six-month marriage of convenience. Sophia agrees but adds a stipulation of her own, one that will test his resolve, even as their wedding day reveals that Sophia's dreams of a twin sister might be more than dreams. As Sophia and Gideon join forces, the stakes couldn't be higher: a baby's life, a town's future, and love. Learn more about Amanda on her WEBSITE and follow her on GoodReads and BookBub. In this episode, we compare two iconic cheeses—Brie and Cabot—to explore what makes each one unique and how they represent distinct ends of the cheese spectrum. Brie, the soft, bloomy-rind French classic, offers a creamy, mild flavor with earthy, mushroomy notes and a gooey texture when warmed. In contrast, Cabot cheeses—especially their award-winning cheddar—deliver bold, tangy, umami-packed bites with a firm, crumbly texture, crafted by a Vermont-based dairy co-op known for quality and consistency. By breaking down their origins, textures, and flavor profiles, we use this comparison to define the parameters of a perfect cheese board: soft vs. firm, mild vs. sharp, and French elegance vs. American punch.

Many golf courses pride themselves on their lush landscapes, but few stop to consider the unseen challenges of maintaining them—especially on remote islands. In this episode, we dive into the unexpected realities of water management at one of the world's most stunning new golf resorts, Cabot St. Lucia. Without easy access to freshwater, maintaining fairways and greens becomes a surprisingly complex and costly endeavor, revealing a hidden problem that many golf operations face without even realizing it. As director of agronomy Damon Di Giorgio explains, water scarcity isn't just a looming environmental issue—it's a daily operational reality that demands creative solutions. From reverse osmosis desalination systems to microclimate-specific management strategies, Damon and his team must be meticulous with every drop. Listeners will come to appreciate how standard practices elsewhere would spell disaster in a setting like St. Lucia—and why sustainable resource management isn't a bonus, but a necessity. By the end of the conversation, you'll see how Cabot St. Lucia isn't just surviving these challenges—they're setting a new standard for eco-conscious, cost-effective golf course management. Through innovative partnerships, on-site nurseries, and precision agronomy practices, the team at Cabot demonstrates that environmental sustainability and financial sustainability can—and must—go hand-in-hand for the future of golf. In today's podcast Dr Sandra Cabot chats with Igor Pershin, a health coach and counsellor plus founder of Natural Filters. They discuss the healthy beverages that people can drink to enhance their health, particularly water. Do you know that the brain accumulates more microplastics than any other part of the body? This causes terrible inflammation and dysfunction in the brain tissue.Igor shares some practical and easy ways people can reduce their exposure to microplastics. We all know we need to drink more water for health so what are our options? Tap water is free but full of chlorine which is bad for gut health not to mention heavy metals and other nasties. The boys preview the 2025 Masters and recap their recent trip to Cabot Citrus Farms in Florida.
The North Shore presents a postcard-perfect façade of historic towns and scenic coastline, beneath this charming exterior lies a darker history of unsolved mysteries that have haunted local communities for decades. During a sold-out live show at Off Cabot in Beverly, Massachusetts, we pulled back the curtain on cold cases that continue to echo through North Shore communites, revealing how justice finally arrived for Claire Gravel, a Salem State sophomore murdered in 1986, when DNA evidence identified her killer 36 years later. This stands in stark contrast to cases like six-year-old Jesus de la Cruz, who disappeared from Lynn in 1996 after being approached by a man with a distinctively marked dog, or Lois Centifanti, whose 1974 strangulation murder remains unsolved despite her body being discovered in Lynn Harbor. What makes these cases particularly haunting is the suggestion that some killers may have escaped justice not just through clever evasion, but through protection. The murder of 15-year-old Henry Bedard, Jr. in Swampscott has become what locals describe as "an open secret" – a case where community members whisper about the perpetrator but fear or family connections have prevented justice for nearly half a century. As audience members shared their own insights and connections to these cases, it became clear that many cold cases remain unsolved not for lack of information, but because relationships, fear, and sometimes nepotism have created walls of silence. We explore cold cases that continue to haunt local communities decades later while highlighting how scientific advances and changing relationships can bring resolution to seemingly hopeless situations.• Claire Gravel's 1986 murder case was solved in 2022 after 36 years through DNA evidence• Six-year-old Jesus de la Cruz disappeared from Lynn in 1996 after a stranger with a distinctive dog approached him• Lois Centifanti was murdered in Lynn Harbor in 1974, with friends receiving threatening notes to "keep quiet"• Leanne Redden vanished in 2013 on Marathon Monday, with her boyfriend returning all her belongings days later• Joel de los Reyes was found in Rumney Marsh after taking a Lyft from Chelsea• Karen Sharpe's 2000 murder by her husband received national attention due to salacious headlines rather than domestic violence issues• Henry Bedard Jr's 1974 murder remains what locals call "an open secret" in SwampscottDo you have information about these or other North Shore crimes? More from our sold out live in March. We have decades worth of unsolved mysteries and forgotten tragedies in our own backyards. In this continuation of our show at Off Cabot in Beverly, Mass, in March, we plunge into the case of Beryl Atherton—a 47-year-old schoolteacher brutally murdered in her Marblehead home during a 1950 Nor'easter, her throat cut in the sign of a cross. Decades later, her killer remains unidentified and her story largely untold. Beyond the details of these chilling cases lies a deeper exploration of how society treats victims of violent crime. Too often, especially with female victims, their characters become posthumously dissected and villainized—a disturbing pattern that continues from Elizabeth Short (the Black Dahlia, who grew up just miles away in Medford) to modern cases. This victim-blaming serves as a psychological buffer, allowing us to believe such horrors only happen to people who somehow "deserve" it. Audience members are welcome to share their connections to local crimes. We know these aren't just stories; they're lived experiences that have shaped neighborhoods and families across generations. Most importantly, this episode introduces the work of a new Massachusetts-based victim advocacy coalition formed alongside documentary filmmaker Melanie McLaughlin and forensic anthropologist Dr. Anne-Marie Myers. Our mission exemplifies what I call "everyday advocacy"—sharing accurate information, supporting grieving families, and refusing to sensationalize tragedy at the expense of human dignity. We learn from these unfiltered conversations is the importance of advocacy. The stories we tell about victims shape how we understand not just crime, but humanity itself. • Case of Beryl Atherton, a 47-year-old Marblehead teacher murdered in her home during a Nor'easter in 1950• Discussion of how crime victims are often villainized posthumously, particularly women• Introduction of a new Massachusetts-based victim advocacy coalition with Anngelle, documentary filmmaker Melanie McLaughlin, and forensic anthropologist Dr. Ann Marie Miers (MMMPAC)• Open Q&A covering lesser known cases and the controversy around the Karen Reid murder case and its impact on our communities. Link to complete 'The Tip Jar' - our survey can be found here. In this episode, Sam speaks to the founder and CEO of Cabot - Ben Cowan Dewar - about his early experiences with the game of golf and how he came to be one of the youngest developers in the business when we began work at Cabot Cape Breton at the age of 25. Since then, Cabot has become a powerhouse in the world of resort golf, with the portfolio of Cabot properties growing to Europe in Bordeaux, Scotland with Cabot Highlands which will see the addiiton of the new Tom Doak course (Old Petty) this summer, St Lucia with the latest Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw designed course and Citrus Farms in Florida. It's a brilliant example of an entrepreneurial mindset and sheer resilience to keep putting one foot infront of the other despite the obstacles that lay ahead. Denise is the most public facing member of the team and glad to be a contributing member of the dairy farm. With 600 cows (300 milking currently) there is always a lot to do between the cows, the farm tours, the anaerobic digester, the technology (robotic milkers), compost, construction projects, and more the farm is a very busy place.
