Ayurveda is the science of life (Ayur=life Veda=science or knowledge). It's a 5,000-year-old ancient healing system that originated in the Vedic culture of India. Don't let that turn you off though. Ayurveda is not just for Indians or people of Asian descent. It's a wise system of beliefs that encourages mind, body, and spirit vitality through better eating choices, cultivating a spiritual practice, and living out our life's purpose.  Today, Trudy discusses how Ayurveda Changed her life, how she discovered this timeless system, resources she used to help expand her knowledge, and the 6 stages of dis-ease. Michelle S. Fondin is the author of The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle(New World Library, 2015) and Help! I Think My Loved One Is an Alcoholic: A Survival Guide for Lovers, Family, & Friends. She’s also the author of the upcoming books: Enlightened Medicine: Your Power to Get Well Now(Fall 2017) and Chakra Healing for Vibrant Energy (New World Library, Spring 2018). Michelle writes for Chopra.com and teaches yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic lifestyle. She holds a Vedic Master certificate and has taught in seminars with Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon. Michelle speaks about health, wellness, and integrative medicine as well as spirituality and healing. She lives in Herndon, VA with her children. Though “chakra” meant little to the author in 1999, when she was in her 20s and diagnosed with thyroid cancer, it became a fundamental aspect of her healing. Fondin explored the fifth chakra, which included the thyroid gland. She came to understand previous illnesses and psychological circumstances in ways that explained — and helped heal — her current illness. Fondin, a teacher, healer, and author known for plain-spoken explanations of Eastern practices here puts the power of chakras in the hands of readers, whether they are facing a particular illness or interested in optimizing everyday wellbeing. In a program that can be used for a seven-day intensive healing or a lifetime plan for maintaining peak wellness, readers learn to balance each of the seven chakras through diet, breath, meditation, and yoga asanas. Spiritual, energetic, and physical in nature, chakra healing epitomizes the proven power of utilizing every aspect of the mind, body, and spirit. www.michellefondinauthor.com

Drug and Alcohol addiction is a serious subject, one that I don't feel we pay enough attention to. There's a good chance one of us knows someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol and we don't even know it. That's because they are experts at hiding their addiction. After all many have been hiding their addiction for years! In this show I'm interviewing Michelle S. Fondin who was in a relationship with someone who was addicted to alcohol which inspired her to do the research it took to bring awareness around the subject to better inform those that don't know much about it in her book called Help! I Think My Loved One Is an Alcoholic. Michelle S. Fondin is the author of The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle (New World Library, 2015), Help! For Life on Purpose Episode #22, my guest is Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor, yoga and meditation teacher, and author Michelle Fondin. Michelle joins me to discuss all things Ayurveda — from how it helped drastically change her life after she was diagnosed with cancer at age 28 to how it can help you find the health answers you're seeking by tapping into your body's inherent wisdom, as well as some of the tools she uses to live a purposeful life. About: Michelle Fondin is an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor, yoga and meditation teacher, author, and since 2008, the Owner of The Ayurvedic Path. She holds a Vedic Master certificate from the Chopra Center and has worked with Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon at Chopra Center events teaching yoga and meditation. She regularly sees clients and teaches them how to live an Ayurvedic Lifestyle and achieve optimal wellness. She’s a member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, The Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America and Yoga Alliance and writes for Chopra.com. She lives in Virginia with her three kids and two cats. Her most recent book, The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle (published by New World Library) offers an in-depth exploration of Ayurveda, which originated in India at least five thousand years ago and has stood the test of time. Ayurveda, the “science of life,” is a complete wellness system that includes all that we associate with medical care — prevention of disease, observation, diagnosis, and treatment — as well as self-care practices that are generally absent from Western medicine. The book is built around eight “spokes” of the Ayurvedic wheel of healing — physical, spiritual, emotional, relationship, occupational, financial, and environmental health, as well as healing the past. Using the system of three principle doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), Michelle offers readers a self-assessment for discovering their mind-body type, as well as practical ways they can enhance their health based on their type.
