What if the most important work of parenting isn't about your child at all... but about understanding yourself?Dr. Dan Siegel is a Harvard-trained clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA, a neuroscientist, and one of the leading voices helping us understand how relationships shape the developing mind. He has authored over 20 books, five of them New York Times bestsellers, including co-authoring The Whole-Brain Child and No-Drama Discipline. Trained as a developmental attachment researcher through the National Institute of Mental Health, Dan has spent more than 40 years studying how the adults who care for children influence who those children become. And his interest isn't only academic. Dan describes his own childhood as decidedly non-optimal... a father who was intrusive and at times terrifying, a mother who was emotionally distant. He carried every non-secure attachment stance into adulthood, and earned security later in life, with the help of a therapist who finally saw him. What he found over those four decades reframes how we think about raising kids. The research is remarkably clear: how a parent has made sense of their own childhood, assessed before their baby is even born, predicts how that child will attach. Children don't need perfect parents. They need three things... to be seen, to be soothed, and to be safe. When those are reliably present, a fourth emerges: security. And when we inevitably blow it, because every parent does, what matters most is the repair. As Dan puts it, there's no such thing as perfect parenting. There's just being present. In this conversation with Dr. Michael Gervais, Dan walks through the science of attachment and why the pop-culture version on social media is quoting a different field entirely, the myth that a mother should be able to do it all alone when children are wired for a village, and the daily Wheel of Awareness practice he uses to start every morning. The two also explore loneliness as the experience of a “partial mind,” the shift from a threat mindset to a challenge mindset that protects against burnout, and what it means to keep the “me” while belonging to a “we.” And Mike opens up about the moment his son was born, when he and his wife wrote down their first principles as parents and landed on two words: kindness and strength. In this conversation, we explore:Why there's no such thing as perfect parenting, only being presentThe four S's every child needs: seen, soothed, safe, and secureHow your own childhood story quietly shapes the way you parentWhy repair after a rupture matters more than never rupturing at allThe myth of the lone parent, and why children are wired for a villageWhy loneliness may be the experience of a partial mindThe daily Wheel of Awareness practice Dan has done with 77,000 peopleHow shifting from a threat mindset to a challenge mindset protects against burnoutIf you've ever lost your cool with your kids and worried you've done lasting damage, this conversation offers a hopeful, science-backed way to repair... and grow._____________________Links & ResourcesSubscribe to our Youtube Channel for more conversations at the intersection of high performance, leadership, and wellbeing: https://www.youtube.com/c/FindingMasteryGet exclusive discounts and support our amazing sponsors!Go to: https://findingmastery.com/sponsors/Subscribe to the Finding Mastery newsletter for weekly high performance insights: https://www.findingmastery.com/newsletterDownload Dr. Mike's Morning Mindset Routine: findingmastery.com/morningmindsetFollow on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and XDr. Dan Siegel's Books: The Whole-Brain Child, No-Drama Discipline, Parenting from the Inside Out, The Power of Showing Up, Aware, and Becoming AwareSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Mark and Al share their mutual interest in fantasy novels. Is "high fantasy" fundamentally different than what enjoyed as kids? Did Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and HBO's Game of Thrones show us that these big books are adaptable, or were they exceptions? We're anticipating the upcoming Mistborn/Cosmere adaptations, as we're both into Brandon Sanderson. We also talk about The Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, Earthsea, Shannara, Joe Abercrombie, Robin Hobb, Stephen R. Donaldson, Patrick Rothfuss, Tad Williams, and of course Harry Potter. Don't Get Stranded! Essential Trackside Spares.Welcome back to Everyone Racers. FUCKING MOPAR 440 EPISODE in which Mental just doesn't sleep, Tim buys more parts cars, Chrissy chicken likes wooden and fresh eggs, and Chris removes a sunroof. Really, we talk all about spares. Every racer has a story. A wheel bearing that failed without warning. A fuel pump that quit at the worst possible moment. A brake hose that turned a podium run into a parts-store scavenger hunt. Spare parts can save your weekend, what should you get, where to get them, how to keep them, and when to call it. What's the one spare part that can save an entire race weekend? We dive deep into one of the least glamorous—but most important—topics in amateur motorsports: the spare parts you should always bring to the track.Using lessons learned from years of endurance racing, LeMons racing, ChampCar, Lucky Dog, SCCA, NASA, grassroots road racing, rally adventures, and countless trackside repairs, we cover the spare parts strategy that keeps race cars on track and out of the paddock. We've lived through all of it, and in this episode we break down exactly what belongs in your trailer, tow vehicle, paddock box, or race car so you can spend more time racing and less time searching for parts. In this episode:

What if you could simply tell a recommendation system what you want instead of relying on likes, dislikes, and watch history? Kyle Polich talks with Fuyuan Lyu about the DPR framework, which combines large language models and traditional recommender systems to give users direct control over recommendations through natural language. Together they explore how conversational interfaces could transform platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and news feeds while preserving the strengths of modern recommendation algorithms.

Spend Father’s Day with your favorite father-son baseball podcasting duo, Tim and Jeff Kurkjian! We cover all the latest happenings across Major League Baseball, but first, we kick things off with a Kurkjian Quandary about golf (yes, we love these). The Marlins are playing great baseball, and so is Bryce Harper. Harper and Manny Machado both reflect on how different the game is today, especially when it comes to facing pitching compared to when they first broke into the majors. Plus, the commissioner of the podcast, Mike Schur, shares a Quirkjiian that will have you thinking about unassisted triple plays in a whole new way. And on this date, we celebrate baseball legends Bobby Cox, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays. We'd say that's a pretty strong lineup. Then we spin the Wheel of Kurkjian and talk all things baseball—it's kind of the perfect segment. Thanks so much for listening or watching, and thank you for being part of our family! Most people who are experimenting with power play and BDSM aren't doing anything extreme. They're just two people who trust each other, trying to "spice it up." But skipping the negotiation conversation because it feels like it has to be a mood killer is a rookie move that can lead to real problems. I'm not talking bruises here, I'm talking about emotional distance, shut down, and loss of libido. This episode is built around a real couple — smart, communicative, good at relationships — who did years of power play without ever having a proper negotiation conversation, because they both assumed that trusting each other was enough. It wasn't. The fallout was a sexless relationship, nervous system shutdown, and a lot of hurt that took real work to untangle. I want to help you avoid that entirely.Whether you're using restraints, doing impact, or just soft-topping: the negotiation is the first scene. Done right, it's not a clipboard and a liability waiver — it's where the anticipation starts, where you find out what your partner actually wants, where you start co-creating something that's going to be really, really good. This episode is about how to do that.In this episode:Why smart, aware people keep skipping BDSM negotiation — and what it actually costs themWhat subspace is, why your prefrontal cortex goes offline in it, and why that means the bottom has to be an architect of the negotiation, not a passengerThe real difference between topping/bottoming and dom/sub dynamics (and why accidentally agreeing to the wrong one causes relationship problems)How to make the negotiation desire-forward, not just limit-focused — starting with how you want to feel, who you want to be, and what energy from a partner opens you upWhy aftercare isn't an afterthought, and how to talk about it before you playWhere to find real community and credible resources if you want to go deeperWhether you're kink-curious or have been playing for years, this one's worth your time.Resources mentioned: Yes, No, Maybe Lists from various sources (pick your favorite): Babeland: https://www.babeland.com/babe-blog/how-tos/yes-no-maybe/Bex Caputo: https://www.bextalkssex.com/yes-no-maybe/Sunny Megatron: https://sunnymegatron.com/consent-sexual-boundaries-yesnomaybe/Get my free guide: Get Out of Your Head: A Starter Guide to Releasing the Pressure, Shame, and "Shoulds" Around Intimacy at https://laurajurgens.com/guideMore links: Substack at https://laurajurgens.substack.com/Pleasure Path Diagnostic here: https://laurajurgens.com/diagnostic/About me, testimonials, blog, bookings: https://laurajurgens.com/Wheel of Erotic emotions, go to: https://laurajurgens.com/wheelCopyright notice: All content in this podcast is copyrighted and copying, scraping, data mining, or using the content to train AI is prohibited.

Then Sean reveals something genuinely impressive: he pulled the entire back catalogue of the show into a spreadsheet, tagged every episode by segment type, and even built a working spin wheel inside Excel for the Wheel of Topics segment. From there the episode turns into a proper Eddie Van Halen tribute deep dive — comparing how various artists have honored Eddie since his passing, debating whether emulating a legend's style is more respectful than finding your own voice, and landing on a clear ranking by the end. This episode covers:Home improvement chaos — sod cutters, Red River gumbo, and building a shed in tight quartersSewer maintenance gone slightly sideways and an inventive defense system involving Saran Wrap and kitty litterSevere Manitoba weather — tornado warnings, hail, and flooding memories from years pastThe big data project — Sean catalogued nearly a decade of episodes into a spreadsheet, tagged every segment type, and built a custom spin wheel for the Wheel of Topics in ExcelA full tribute song breakdown comparing how different artists have honored Eddie Van Halen since his passing, including tracks inspired by his playing style and a tribute by his former Van Halen bandmate David Lee RothA real debate about authenticity in music — whether trying to emulate a legend's exact style serves them better than simply being inspired by them and creating something originalA side-by-side comparison of two very different tribute approaches, one channeling the spirit of the music and one trying to replicate technique directlyReflections on the Rush farewell concert footage, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, drummer Anika Nilles stepping into Neil Peart's role, and the emotional weight of watching a band's legacy carry forwardA recommendation of a deeply researched music biography that reframes how the band's early influences shaped their soundA preview of new original music coming for episode 600, including a tribute piece dedicated to longtime patron and podcaster Kevin BrownPass or Go and Versus segments return — Incorrect Headlines saved for the 600th episodePatron shoutouts and the full breakdown of all four Patreon tiers, including the new $75 tier from The Trailer Behind the Metal ShoppeFind us everywhere: @seangeekpodcastWebsite: seanmcginty.caSupport the show: patreon.com/seangeekpodcast

Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we accomplish part 2 of our deep dive into the sickly yellow abyss of Kane Parson's Backrooms to reveal the unthinkably dense amount of symbolism, mythology and religious allegory lurking just beneath the surface. In the free side of the show we discuss how Mary's shadow can be related to The Wheel of Fortune and the Blasted Tower of the Tarot expanding on the themes already present and giving dimension to Backroom's lore outside the film. In the extended show we discuss Ivan Beck, the Red City, Odin, the Tower of Babylon, the Voyager Disk, The Qlippoth of Kabbalistic Tree of Death and even the Gnostic Demiurge because damn it, Kane Parsons go so hard with easter eggs and clever symbolism I think we may need to determine if he is actually a Moonchild created by Aleister Crowley himself. In this episode of the Vibrant Living Podcast, I welcome Randy Wheeler, owner of Wheeler Coaching and Maxwell Leadership Certified DISC Consultant, for a conversation about the kind of leadership that has nothing to do with a title.Randy has trained thousands of leaders across the United States and developed leaders internationally. His conviction is simple: leadership is influence. And the women who insist they are not leaders are frequently the ones every room looks to.This conversation covers what it means to lead from values rather than obligation, why knowing what to say no to is as important as knowing what to say yes to, and how the most effective leaders protect their focus rather than their schedule. Randy and Donna also explore the danger of tying identity to performance, the power of having people in your life who can see your blind spots, and what it looks like to lead not from pressure but from peace. If you have ever minimized your influence or wondered whether what you do actually matters, this episode answers that question.More About RandyRandy Wheeler is the owner of Wheeler Coaching and helps individuals and teams enhance leadership, communication, and teamwork. He holds a Master's in Organizational Leadership and is a Maxwell Leadership Certified DISC Consultant and Working Genius Facilitator. What if the fear you feel about stepping into your power isn't yours — but something you've inherited, carried quietly in your DNA for centuries? In this Summer Solstice episode of Chat Off The Mat, Rose Wippich sits down with internationally recognized witch, intuitive channeler, and bestselling author Emma Griffin for an unforgettable conversation on healing the witch wound, awakening intuitive gifts, and reclaiming your most sovereign, magical self.In this episode, Emma and Rose explore:
Agency is your belief in your ability to influence your life.Effort + Time = Results.I've been reflecting on this a lot lately, as I'm in the midst of some major life changes. I recently received my Graduate Diploma of Counselling and I am updating my website, books, and offerings to reflect this next chapter. I'm also continuing to show up each day, facilitating daily guided meditations on Insight Timer and working to expand my reach and impact. On the personal front, I'm training Jiu Jitsu more than ever, confronting the excuses that once held me back from competing, and proving to myself that growth comes from action, not intention.Positive change rarely happens overnight. It takes, consistent actions repeated daily. The key is believing that your actions matter and then acting accordingly.I encourage you to believe in your ability to create positive change in your own life, and then to ACT!In this session, I also introduce 'The Flame & The Void' meditation from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. You can listen to a guided version here, with separate recordings available for both adults and children.Resources Mentioned:The Flame & The Void guided meditationHow To Get Shit TogetherMindfulness: A Guidebook To The Present MomentQuick Links:Want to work with me? ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
Is Litha really an ancient Pagan festival, or is its history far more fascinating? In this episode, Dr Angela Puca explores the true history of Litha, the Summer Solstice, and Midsummer, separating historical evidence from modern Pagan myth-making. We look at Stonehenge, Bede, St John's Eve, midsummer bonfires, folk magic, Wicca, and the creation of the modern Wheel of the Year.Rather than asking whether Litha is “real” or “fake,” this video reveals how contemporary Pagans transform ancient solar symbolism, European folklore, and modern ritual creativity into a meaningful seasonal celebration.Perfect for Pagans, witches, Wiccans, folklore lovers, and anyone interested in the history of magic, ritual, and the Summer Solstice.CONNECT & SUPPORT

Today I am joined by Carla from our coven to talk about death, grief, poisonous plants, her craft and a whole lot more in this episode! This is part one as the interview was so long my software couldn't cope with the duration so I have released as a two parter. Carla Valentine is a qualified Senior Mortuary Technician, and is currently the human remains conservator at Barts Pathology Museum in London. Her career caring for the dead has spanned over 20 years. She is a writer and broadcaster, featuring on TV shows such as The Bone Detectives, Fatberg Autopsy and Ancient Unexplained Files, and has a podcast called Mortem on BBC Sounds. Her first book, Past Mortems, documents her career carrying out autopsies for a decade, and the follow up, The Language of Bones - out October 1st 2026 - is a deeper exploration of death practices and the human condition. She also penned Murder Isn't Easy: The Forensics of Agatha Christie, and her next book, Planted Evidence - all about gardens, graves and poisonous plants - will be published in 2028. Carla's career informs her craft and she incorporates death meditation (mortality salience) into her practice as well as the use of body fluids and bones. She runs a small goth gardening business called Morticulture and is obsessed with the dark side of horticulture and its history. You can find Carla here - Website: www.carlavalentine.co.uk Insta (human remains/work): @past_mortems Insta (personal): @carlavalentineuk Insta (Morticulture): @morticult Tik Tok: @carlavalentineuk Our book review is Collected Curiosities - More Stories and Recipes from the Historical Apothecary Cabinet by Amanda Edmiston.
