In this podcast, Hannah Levin discusses her mission to alleviate unnecessary suffering through Ayurveda and yoga, drawing from her personal health crisis with high-grade cervical dysplasia. She explains how Western medicine offered surgery as the only option, but discovering Ayurveda helped her heal and inspired her to guide others toward conscious, health-supportive choices. Levin emphasizes that much of our suffering comes from living out of sync with nature's rhythms, often unconsciously, and that true freedom arises from balancing structure and spontaneity. She delves into Ayurvedic principles, including the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), and how they influence health, emotions, and daily habits. Through her coaching, she helps people cultivate awareness, implement gradual habit changes, and make sustainable lifestyle shifts aligned with their unique constitutions. The conversation also explores the role of community, meditation, and intentional living in fostering well-being, ultimately advocating for a compassionate, balanced approach to personal growth and healing.--Hannah Elizabeth Levin is the founder of Heartfelt Wellbeing LLC. She is an Ayurveda Practitioner, yoga teacher, and artist who also holds a masters degree in teaching. Hannah expertly guides women to regain their optimal health and wellbeing through her online coaching programs and retreats.https://www.heartfeltwellbeing.com/https://www.facebook.com/heartfeltwellbeinghttps://www.facebook.com/groups/heartfelthannahhttps://www.instagram.com/heartfeltwellbeing/ Hosted on Acast. Addiction, from an Ayurvedic lens, is more than just a physical dependence—it's a deep imbalance in the body, mind, and spirit. It often arises from a disconnect from one's true self (Prakriti) and an accumulation of toxins (Ama), whether physical, emotional, or energetic. Many turn to substances in an attempt to soothe inner suffering, regulate emotions, or fill a void left by trauma or unresolved pain. • Vata imbalances can manifest as anxiety, restlessness, and a pervasive sense of emptiness, driving the urge to escape through addiction. • Pitta imbalances fuel intense cravings, impulsivity, and self-destructive tendencies. • Kapha imbalances create stagnation, attachment, and emotional heaviness, making it harder to break free from addictive cycles.Substance use depletes Ojas (vital essence) and Prana (life force energy), but Ayurveda offers a path to rebuild through nourishment, breathwork, meditation, and detoxification practices like Panchakarma and Rasayana (rejuvenation therapy). By restoring balance through daily routines (Dinacharya) and sattvic living, we cultivate clarity, resilience, and self-awareness—key elements in long-term healing.Today, we're honored to sit down with Rob Loud, a yoga teacher whose journey through drug and alcohol addiction led him to a path of deep transformation. Rob describes his teaching style as embodied vinyasa, drawing wisdom from multiple yogic lineages. His passion for yoga is evident—not just in his classes, which are creative, intelligent, and dynamic—but in the way he lives his practice. In this conversation, Rob opens up about his early struggles with addiction, the trauma that shaped him, and how rewiring his nervous system through yoga became the foundation of his recovery. We discuss how yoga not only supports sobriety but also helps navigate both daily stressors and the deeper emotional wounds that addiction often masks. This is a raw, vulnerable conversation—one that invites us all into a deeper intimacy with ourselves, our inner child, and the universal thread that unites us: compassion for the suffering we all experience as human beings.Rob, thank you for your wisdom, your presence, and the light you bring to your students, on and off the mat.

Understanding Ayurveda for Better Health and Balance Are you feeling fatigued, battling digestive issues, or struggling with hormonal imbalances? Do you find modern medicine's one-size-fits-all solutions frustrating and ineffective? If so, you're not alone. Many people are turning to ancient healing systems like Ayurveda for answers. Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old holistic health system, can help you understand your body's unique constitution, or dosha, to restore balance and vitality. This episode dives into the connection between Ayurveda, gut health, and histamine imbalances, offering actionable tips to bring your body back into harmony. Key Points What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old holistic health system focusing on balance in three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas represent combinations of the five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. When imbalanced, they can lead to health issues like irritability, digestive problems, or sluggishness. Understanding Your Dosha and Constitution Everyone is born with a specific dosha composition, influenced by genetics and environment. This section discusses characteristics of each dosha, such as fiery Pitta, airy Vata, and grounded Kapha, and their roles in physical and mental health. The Gut Health and Histamine Connection Ayurvedic principles focus on digestion (Agni) as a cornerstone of health. Poor digestion leads to toxin build-up (Ama), which can trigger histamine reactions. Learn how Ayurveda addresses gut issues through dietary and lifestyle adjustments. Foods for Balancing Doshas and Reducing Histamine Pitta (Fire and Water): Avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods. Opt for cooling options like cucumber and watermelon. Vata (Air and Space): Emphasize grounding, cooked foods like root vegetables and soups. Kapha (Water and Earth): Incorporate lighter, spiced meals to boost digestion. Ayurvedic Herbs and Lifestyle Practices Explore how herbs like tulsi, ashwagandha, and coriander support balance. Learn lifestyle tips such as stress management, detox practices, and how ancient Ayurvedic wisdom aligns with modern functional medicine. Balancing your doshas with Ayurveda offers a personalized, holistic approach to health. By understanding your unique constitution, you can manage issues like fatigue, gut imbalances, and hormonal disruptions naturally. Ayurveda isn't just about treating symptoms—it's about aligning with your body's natural rhythm for long-term wellness. Curious about what your dosha is or how Ayurvedic practices can benefit your health? Tune in to discover actionable insights that can help you regain balance and vitality today! Namaste from Boulder, Colorado! Today Erin and Sasha continue the exploration of the chakras with Manipura - the third of the seven chakras - which translates as “the shining sacred jewel.” It is associated with the Fire element, the planet Mars, the color Yellow, and the “Ishta Devata” Hanuman. It is located just above the navel and below the sternum, at our solar plexus — also called the celiac plexus — which is a complex system of radiating nerves and ganglia. It is found in the pit of the stomach in front of the aorta. It is part of the sympathetic nervous system and plays an important role in the functioning of the stomach, kidneys, liver, and adrenal glands. This chakra brings Prana to the digestive system, also known as our second brain. From a Western perspective, this is known and expressed as the gut-brain axis (or GBA) - the network of nerves and biochemical signals that connect the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It's a two-way communication system that helps maintain homeostasis. The vagus nerve is one of the main nerves that connects the brain and gut, sending signals in both directions. From a clinical perspective, the GBA can impact disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and memory loss. The GBA can also be linked to conditions like autism, obesity, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. The Manipura chakra is directly linked to our sense of self, self-esteem, sense of purpose, the seat of clear decisive action, vision, dynamic action, assertiveness, discipline, determination, passion, deepest willingness to go beyond, strong will power, courage, resilience, and vitality. When balanced, there is energy and insight, will power and and follow-through, self-reliance, vitality and health. It can only be as balanced as the first 2 chakras. When imbalanced, there is a state of self-doubt, fear, insecurity, wanting, anger, blame, victimhood, depression, and lethargy. Positive affirmations, yoga postures that engage the core such as bow pose, cobra pose, or revolved triangle pose, and kapalabhati pranayama (or breath of fire) help strengthen Manipura when it is weak. We also get into ways of balancing an overactive Manipura, as Pitta-type individuals are prone to over exercising, overworking, and burnout. We hope today's conversation illuminates the ways in which we can reclaim and maintain our personal power, and that it is not as much a process of creating it, as it is discovering that which has always been there and removing what blocks us from experiencing it. I am excited to have Sonia Lloyd, the founder of Rasasara Skin Food, on the show with me today. Sonia founded her skincare company in Australia twenty years ago. She developed an interest in compounding skincare products after struggling with ultra-sensitive skin. Following the Ayurvedic model, she created a line specifically tailored for vata, pitta, and kapha skin types. In our discussion today, Sonia shares her experience as a skincare consultant and dives into how her products get made. She reveals how our skin reflects our diet and lifestyle and explains how the qualities of vata, pitta, and kapha within the body show up in our skin. We also explore ways to recognize what is happening in our skin and how to care for it.You will not want to miss this epic conversation with Sonia Lloyd of Rasasara Skin Food. Join us!Her Journey Sonia has been a part of the organic skincare business for 20 years, motivated by her passion for Ayurveda and a desire to eliminate the excessive fragrances in existing products. Apart from the Ayurvedic skincare products she found at local Indian grocery stores, she often encountered products laden with artificial scents that aggravated her sensitivity. That led her to discover that if a product is inedible, we should not use it on the skin. That prompted her to create Rasasara, a brand focusing on edible skincare, minimal packaging, and aesthetically pleasing design.Product Philosophy and Skin TypesSonia bases her products on Ayurvedicdoshas, targeting different skin qualities. The packaging clearly labels products for Vata, Pitta, and Kapha skin types, and the Rasasara website features a skincare quiz to help identify skin types. Sonia highlights the importance of understanding your skin type to achieve better results but reassures customers that even using the wrong product is still more beneficial than conventional options.Understanding Doshas and Their Impact on SkincareThe qualities of the three doshas:Vata: Fine and dry skin, prone to roughness and coldness. Vata products use heavier oils like black sesame to nourish and hydrate.Pitta: Typically sensitive skin with oiliness in the T-zone. Pitta skin often shows signs of heat and redness, so Sonia uses cooling ingredients such as rose and sandalwood for this skin type.Kapha: Kapha is often associated with thicker, more resilient skin that can be oily and congested. Kapha products detoxify and stimulate the skin using lighter oils.People often have a mix of dosha qualities. Sonia recommends focusing on imbalances rather than fitting strictly into one category.Recommended Skincare RoutinesPitta skin can be easily irritated. Start with a warm compress, use a floral mist, and end with a carefully selected oil for Pitta imbalances. The key is to avoid friction and inflammation while promoting healing and balance in the skin.Understanding Aging and Skin HealthBy prioritizing what we put on our skin and inside our bodies, we can dramatically reduce the visible signs of aging. Using products free from toxins allows our bodies to focus on building new tissue instead of expelling harmful substances. Many mainstream skincare products contain synthetic ingredients that act as dumping grounds for chemical byproducts, contributing to skin issues.Nourishing the SkinSkincare is nourishment for the skin. Using pure, natural ingredients means the skin can repair itself rather than battling against chemicals. The increasing awareness of the skin microbiome highlights the importance of using non-toxic ingredients. Harmful substances are still prevalent in many products, which is a challenge, especially for children.Body Oil...

In this episode, Akshay Bhat, an Ayurvedic practitioner and yoga teacher, delves into the Ayurvedic principles of health and the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. He explains that Ayurveda views health as a balance between physical, mental, and spiritual aspects, emphasizing that one's dosha is just a piece of the larger puzzle of well-being. Akshay discusses how understanding these doshas can help individuals tailor their lifestyles, diets, and routines for optimal health. Vata, associated with movement, can lead to issues like back pain when imbalanced. Pitta, linked to fire and digestion, can cause inflammation if not balanced. Kapha individuals, with slower, heavier constitutions, may thrive on more intense exercise. The speakers highlight the importance of knowing your unique constitution to maintain a balanced lifestyle, stressing that what works for one may not work for another. They also explore the concept of circadian rhythms and how aligning daily routines with Ayurvedic principles can promote overall health. The discussion encourages listeners to embrace their unique constitution and take steps toward better self-care through Ayurveda. In this solo episode, Dr. Shivani Gupta explores the concept of doshas from Ayurveda, explaining how they relate to individual health and wellness. She discusses the three primary doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—detailing their characteristics, imbalances, and how understanding them can lead to better self-care and health management. Through personal stories and client experiences, she emphasizes the importance of aligning one's lifestyle with their dosha for optimal health and balance. Takeaways: Understanding doshas can provide deeper self-awareness. Vata is characterized by air and movement, often leading to creativity but also anxiety. Pitta embodies fire, associated with ambition but can lead to anger if imbalanced. Kapha represents earth, promoting stability but can lead to lethargy when out of balance. Personal health journeys can illustrate the impact of dosha imbalances. Aligning daily routines with dosha can enhance well-being. Seasonal changes affect dosha balance and should be considered in lifestyle choices. Ayurvedic practices offer tools for managing dosha imbalances. Self-care rituals can be customized based on dosha for better health outcomes. Ancient wisdom in Ayurveda provides holistic approaches to modern health challenges. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Jennifer: I am wondering what your thoughts are on the SPECT (Brain) Scans that Dr Daniel Amen recommends to clients with brain disorders or concerns, especially if there is a history of head injury? Lara: Hi Stephen, Hope you can help. When i go to bed at night i am tired and ready to fall asleep, then when i almost fall asleep my legs start to itch very badly. I can go on for hours and it wakes me up everynight, sometimes it goes away for a while but always returnes after a few days or weeks. Kelsi: hi dr. cabral! i have an ayurvedic-based question. i tend to have a pitta imbalance and recently it's been worse than usual. my body has been hot, especially at night, my tongue has a light yellow coating and i struggled with mild insulin resistance + acne (pcos). i'm currently on the CBO protocol and meditating like my life depends on it to calm the body down. my questions are 1) if i'm already running hot, have i been doing myself a disservice by doing the sauna every single day? and 2) is there anything else you'd recommend right off the bat to rebalance pitta? Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am getting into preserving my own food and have been learning about the process. I got a canning book and it splits jam recipes into those with added pectin and those without it. It says that pectin is a fiber naturally found in fruits and vegetables, and that adding it to jams reduces cooking time and increases its ability to gel. Since it is naturally found in fruit I didn't think it would be bad to add, but after some research I am getting conflicted information. Please share your thoughts, you are a trusted voice in our household! Thank you! Maria: Is treating an elevated/out of range TPOab part of the thyroid outside the scope of practice of an IHP? Click here to send me a quick message :) It's Autumn equinox time! Well, almost. Technically, it's this weekend (Sunday, 8:47 am eastern time). So, it feels fitting to offer an episode on how to align with the season through foods, herbs and lifestyle practices that can support the transition into Fall. And from the lens of Ayurveda, this seasonal change is particularly significant on the body, mind and spirit, partly because it's the transition from Pitta season (summer) into Vata season (Fall/early winter). Vata is the most unstable, light, rough, dry and mobile of the doshas, so it's especially easy to go out of balance as we transition from the vitality and heat of the summer into the chilly, crisp autumn. Have you ever noticed that your immunity starts getting quirky in this seasonal transition? That you perhaps sleep a little lighter, have some digestive weirdness, maybe even some cycle irregularity, anxiety, or even a tendency towards reflective meditation, inspired creativity or spirituality?According to Ayurvedic practitioner Molly Campbell, Vata season is a perfect time to first cleanse and then replenish to cultivate resilience and capacity for the months to come. We talk about all of this, how you can tell if your resilience might be low, and some initial ways you can begin to work on building your resilience in your daily life to help you ease into and through this season. Listen to learn:the basics on how Ayurveda perceives seasons, particularly Autumnwhy you may want to consider cutting down coffee in this seasonhow a slow but steady pace is essential for longevitysome nuances on how your unique body may respond to different seasonsa few simple ways you can begin to tend to Vata in your daily life this FallResources:Today's shownotes: Get links to Molly's reset + other offeringsSign up for the Natural Contraception course waitlist! Do you feel it? There's a hint of fall in the air. The transition from summer to fall is a big energetic shift. You may not feel like yourself. You may feel burned out, and sluggish with no energy. The transition from one season to another is a vulnerable time when we want to pay attention to our health. We want to prepare ourselves for these transitions so that we are aligned and work with them instead of spending our energy and health fighting against them. According to Ayurveda, the hot Pitta summer gives way to the cool, windy fall Vata season. Our immune system and digestion weaken during that time. We experience issues linked to dryness, such as gas and bloating, constipation, chapped lips, anxiety, or insomnia. We want to balance this transition from hot and wet, to dry and cold, otherwise, a Vata-Pitta imbalance leads to burnout. The key to a smooth transition is to gradually shift your daily routine and diet. The good news is that we were officially in Virgo season. Simply put, it's simpler to establish routines and get organized during Virgo season. Routines balance all the dosha, especially Vata. We can breathe a sigh of relief on the 28th when Mercury goes direct. Because of the retro shade phase, which lasts for two weeks, we aren't completely clear. But things get better when it comes to traveling, technology, and communication. Venus moves into Libra on the 29th. Libra is Venus's home sign and it loves it there. Venus in Libra restores balance and harmony to our life. Venus in Libra is the ideal remedy to help calm any potential Mercury retrograde symptoms that may have arisen. We're in some great energy as August comes to an end. Summer might be almost over, but these next few weeks will be peaceful and lovely.

Ayurveda, which translates from Sanskrit to "knowledge of life", is one of the oldest holistic medical systems in existence. Tune into today's episode with Dr Vignesh Devraj discusses the basics and essence of Ayurveda, talking about the crux of every disease that enters our body, and most importantly the difference between Allopathy and Ayurveda in terms of diagnosis and treatment.
