Ayurveda, often referred to as the “science of life,” is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, with origins dating back over 5,000 years to ancient India. From understanding the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—that govern our physical and emotional states, to the powerful cleansing and rejuvenating process known as Panchakarma. Ayurveda is rooted in harmony between mind, body, and spirit, and it views health as a dynamic balance rather than the mere absence of disease. Can this ancient system continue to offer profound guidance for holistic wellness in the modern world? In this episode, we are joined by Nisha Saini, CHHP. Nisha is the Founder and Director of the award-winning New York Ayurveda & Panchakarma Center in 2006, and is a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Panchakarma Specialist, and licensed holistic esthetician. Life can often feel unpredictable, whether from work pressures, social shifts, or simply the pace of the world. What you'll learn in this episode: Why uncertainty often triggers “all-or-nothing” thinking and how anchor habits provide steadiness. Simple daily habit swaps to create calm energy, mental focus, and restful sleep. The Ayurvedic concept of dinacharya (daily routines) as a foundation for health. Dosha-specific anchors: grounding for Vata, cooling for Pitta, energizing for Kapha. How small, consistent habits ripple out to support nervous system resilience and longevity. Dr. Sati and Praj unpack the “spirituality of money,” linking Vedic elements, doshas (Vata/Pitta/Kapha), and the three gunas to how we earn, spend, and stress—especially in today's shiny-object, Vata-leaning economy. They break down the Three F's of money (fight/flight/freeze), map money behaviors by constitution (Vata's earn-spend cycles, Pitta's purposeful investing, Kapha's hoarding), and offer practical swaps—redirect daily coffee runs, eating out, fast fashion, and even certain healthcare habits toward training, coaching, and long-term wellness ROI. 00:00 Welcome to the Woman Warrior Podcast03:58 Trainer Eyes and Circle Announcements08:01 Seasonal Changes and Wellness Check-In29:37 The Spirituality of Money40:09 Understanding Pitta and Money Flow42:36 Vata Traits and Financial Behavior43:18 Kapha's Financial Stability47:46 The Spiritual Perspective on Money51:33 Investing in Health and Fitness01:02:30 The Cost of Entertainment and Technology01:06:49 Healthcare and Spirituality of Money01:17:04 Final Thoughts and Truth BombBe sure to Like and Subscribe for more! In this episode of A Gut Story, host Dimple Jangda speaks with Kunal Jai Singh about the ancient wisdom and modern relevance of Ayurveda. The conversation traces Ayurveda's mythological origins, its foundation on the five elements and three doshas - Kapha, Pitta, and Vata and its holistic approach to preventive health. They discuss the central role of digestion and gut health, the detoxifying practice of Panchakarma, and the dangers of wrong food combinations that lead to disease. The dialogue also emphasizes using the five senses while eating, the power of circadian rhythm, pranayama, chanting, and journaling for mental health. Practical tips for hair, skin, heart, lungs, and colon care are shared, while a deeper spiritual message encourages listeners to live with purpose, compassion, and balance.
Today we dive deeper into the layers of the mind and personality with Ayurvedic Psychology 102: The 3 Doshas and the 3 Gunas. At the heart of Ayurveda lies a timeless template. One that explains not just your body and mind, but consciousness itself through the lens of the five elements and their expressions as the Doshas and Gunas. This isn't just about understanding your stress responses or emotional habits, though that's part of it. It's about learning to see the world through the lens of nature's intelligence. We'll begin with the 3 Doshas: Vata, the principle of movement and change; creative, spontaneous, but prone to anxiety and fragmentation.Pitta, the force of transformation focused, passionate, and discerning yet can burn out or become irritable. Kapa, the energy of structure and cohesion, loving, loyal and calm, but sometimes resistant to change. And then we'll move into the 3 Gunas, the subtle forces of the mind: Sattva brings clarity, peace, and harmony.Rajas brings action, ambition, and restlessness. Tamma brings stillness, but also inertia, confusion or ignorance. These 6 forces, the three Doshas and the three Gunas form a living map of consciousness. They help us understand why we feel, what we feel, do what we do, and how to come back into alignment with our higher self. When you begin to see yourself and others through this elemental lens, life starts to make more sense. You stop personalizing everything and start realizing and relating to your experience with compassion, insight, and greater freedom. In this insightful episode of Gut Story, Dr. Vignesh Devraj explains how modern diseases like diabetes, fatty liver, and hormonal imbalances are rooted in overconsumption, not malnourishment. Ayurveda classifies diseases into two types — those from deficiency (Apatharpana) and those from excess (Santharpana). With the world now facing abundance-related illnesses, Panchakarma becomes a vital therapy for detoxification.Dr. Vignesh breaks down the five Panchakarma therapies:Nasya – Nasal detox for sinus and mucus-related issues.Vamana – Therapeutic vomiting for Kapha imbalance and respiratory problems.Virechana – Purgation to cleanse the intestines and reduce Pitta-related disorders.Basti – Medicated enemas to nourish and cleanse the colon, ideal for Vata imbalances.Raktamokshana – Bloodletting for detoxing inflammatory markers and skin issues. He warns against DIY detox trends like unsupervised enemas, which can harm gut health and increase Vata imbalance. Panchakarma, when done correctly under supervision, can improve conditions such as PCOS, arthritis, IBS, migraines, asthma, and even fertility issues. The discussion emphasizes that health is a lifestyle, not a one-time treatment. Panchakarma acts as a reset button—helping individuals reconnect with their bodies, improve discipline, and build long-term well-being. Mental health, food habits, and physical activity all play critical roles in maintaining balance.

In Ayurveda, it is mentioned that controlling Vata is the most difficult part of healing and recovery. Send us a textThis week is a flashback episode! This is an episode I put out almost two years ago about the basics of Pitta Dosha. I'll be back next week with a new episode!Original shownotes:Ever feel hangry? That's Pitta. Acne and spreading rashes? That's Pitta. Feel irritable and angry in hot weather? Also Pitta. Pitta Dosha is a combination of the Fire and Water elements. Fire is transformational, it literally changes things. A tree into ash, water into steam. When we are going through a challenging or life changing experience, we sometimes say we are “stepping into the fire”. Without this fire, things would always stay the same and remain stuck. If we didn't have Pitta Dosha in our bodies, we wouldn't be able to transform our food into usable components or transform our sensory impressions into thoughts, emotions or sensations. In this episode:What is Pitta DoshaWhat does Pitta look like in the macrocosm of the world and the microcosm of our bodiesWhat does healthy and unhealthy Pitta look likePitta times of day, time of year and time of lifeQualities of the Pitta predominant personHow to balance PittaSources:Lad, V., M.A.Sc (2002). Slayer's BACK in her full summer Pitta-powered glory — and this episode is a ride through alter ego land, future-self badassery, and reclaiming your fire. Inspired by a listener (shoutout to Deb a.k.a. Solera Crankfire), this episode dives deep into how to bring your superhero self to the surface and stop waiting for motivation to show up.She gets real about the power of alter egos (and why Slayer still works), mental toughness, and the two keys to success from Brooke Castillo's latest fire drop. You'll hear Slayer's take on her current health journey, rebuilding from burnout, and making the small daily choices your highest self would make — like ordering groceries from the pool.

Mid-Summer Slump, I don't think so! It's summer, it's hot, and your body is speaking—maybe through irritation, inflammation, restlessness, or fatigue. Let's talk about the common urge to cool down by numbing out: wine on the patio, nightly ice cream, endless scrolling. But what if cooling down could actually reconnect you to your body, not disconnect you? In today's episode, I'm talking about how to truly cool down during Pitta season in a way that nourishes your feminine body and doesn't lead to burnout, depletion, or disconnection. We talk about: What doshas and gunas really are, and how they shape your child's emotions, attention, and learning The Ayurvedic principle of chatushpad and why a child's progress is inseparable from a parent's wellbeing Strategies for Vata, Pitta, and Kapha imbalances in autistic and non-speaking children How to regulate when breathwork isn't possible, and why co-regulation matters more than ever Why honoring your child's natural tendencies isn't permissive parenting—it's transformational Learn Sudarshan Kriya (SKY Breath Meditation): https://www.artofliving.org/us-en/sky
Summer, with all its brightness and intensity, is a time when Pitta can easily go out of balance, even for those who don't have a Pitta constitution. This week, we're diving into the small (and slightly ridiculous) things that could be having a big impact on your health. We start with the science behind fibre — and how eating more of it may actually help flush out forever chemicals from the body. Then there's the rising concern over plastics disrupting our sleep, thanks to their unexpected effect on the body's circadian rhythm. We also explore the viral trends taking over wellness feeds right now — from fart walks to “Netflix bum” (yes, it's real), plus the new wave of advice on why midlife strength training is so important for healthspan. Elsewhere in the episode, we unpack how ozempic might change the world and we answer your listener question on how to reduce sugar cravings without falling into the restriction trap. Recommendations: Check out @sambentley for good, positive news that breaks through the doom and gloom! Packing cases - a big stress saver before going on holiday Pitta breads - versatile and reduces waste! Charles Dowding's Youtube channel - namely his 'no dig' method.
