Send a textWinter is long. And right now, we're in this unique in-between place: the light is slowly returning, but we still have weeks (or months) of cold, heavy weather ahead. If you're feeling the weight of winter, you're not alone. And more importantly, you're not supposed to be producing at summer's pace right now.In this conversation, I sit down with Brett Aldrich—breathwork practitioner, Ayurveda counselor, and founder of Seed the Spirit—to talk about what's actually happening in our bodies during winter, why seasonal affective disorder is real (but also misunderstood), and how to work with the season instead of against it.Brett shares her own journey from social work burnout to discovering Ayurveda on a little note card in a shop—and how that small piece of wisdom changed everything. We explore the rhythm of winter, the pressure to keep producing when nature is asking us to rest, and why breathwork became the "missing puzzle piece" in her healing journey. This episode is for anyone who's struggling right now—whether that's with seasonal depression, exhaustion, or simply the cultural pressure to keep going when your body is asking you to slow down. What You'll Learn in This Episode:What's actually happening in your body during winter from an Ayurvedic perspective (and why it's natural to feel heavier, slower, more inward)Why late February/early March is uniquely challenging—we're moving from Vata (cold, mobile, erratic) into Kapha season (heavy, wet, earthy), and that transition can feel intenseThe truth about seasonal affective disorder—how to discern between the natural slowness winter asks for vs. when you need more supportWhy the pressure to keep producing is working against you—and what would happen if we actually honored our natural rhythmsHow breathwork works as medicine—the difference between controlled yogic breath and cyclical breathwork for releasing what you can't put words toBrett's journey from burnout to Ayurveda—stumbling into a practice that finally made sense, and how small shifts created big changeThe power of going with your natural flow—why honoring your constitution and the seasons is actually rebellious in our cultureSimple, doable practices for winter wellness—no expensive supplements or complicated protocols, just wisdom you can use todayWhen to reach out for professional help—and why there's no shame in thatKey Themes:This episode is about permission—permission to slow down, to honor winter's natural rhythm, to be gentler with yourself. Dr. Shivani Gupta comes from a family of people with diabetes, generation by generation, where she's seen the after-effects of suffering with chronic metabolic disease.  Her new book, The Inflammation Code (launching, distills 20 years of studying Ayurveda into simple pillars you can apply to prevent the level of inflammation and disease we see today. When people tell her, "I have brain fog, I'm tired, my sleep is off, my digestion's off, I have stubborn weight gain…I guess this is just aging," her reply is, "No, it's not aging, it's inflammaging." We had a really excellent, in-depth conversation that covered a lot of ground, from black pepper and the blood-brain-barrier to our detox experiences in India. I hope you enjoy the podcast! In this podcast, Dr. Gupta and I discuss: Her study of Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old system from India that taught us the circadian clock, modern science discovered what Ayurveda taught 5,000 years ago about living in rhythm with nature The three doshas or constitutions of Vata (air/ether), Pitta (fire/water), and Kapha (earth/water)—understanding your constitution helps customize your self-care practices and diet The circadian clock in Ayurveda teaches that 10:00 to 2:00 PM is Pitta (fire) time, when you're most focused and energetic, and meant to eat your biggest meal 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM is the most important time to be asleep, when Pitta fire cleans and clears inflammation, the lymphatic system, and the glymphatic system (lymphatic system of the brain) Vata people are always in motion and prefer jobs where they don't sit still—they're endurance athletes who can run through the day on coffee, green juice, and crackers (but their homework is three square meals) Pitta people are fiery, passionate leaders who tend to crave hot, oily, spicy fried food…but that's the one thing they shouldn't eat because their digestive fire is already like a bonfire! Kapha people are sturdy, strong, and very grounded, but can struggle with sluggish metabolism, low mood or depression, getting stuck, or not wanting to create change Black pepper increases curcumin absorption by 2,000%—scientists at MD Anderson Cancer Center discovered this, which is why traditional Indian cooking always uses turmeric with black pepper What it feels like to experience a Panchakarma detox in India: "massage that feels like abuse" with paper thongs—Dr. Gupta says, "I can't believe you're allowed to do this to me and I'm paying for it" (both she and I had this experience!) Mental inflammation is the stress we create when forcing ourselves to be healthy; if you force workouts, force protein, force intermittent fasting, the stress alone causes the inflammation you're trying to prevent

If you want to get leaner and live longer check out https://milliondollarbodylabs.com   Are you optimizing your diet and gym time but still feeling wired and foggy? Could the hidden culprit be mental inflammation shortening your health span without you even knowing it?   I talked with Dr. Shivani Gupta about mental inflammation. This stress keeps the nervous system in fight or flight. It ruins digestion, sleep, and clarity. We discussed her book, The Inflammation Code. She explains how Ayurvedic medicine offers solutions through rituals and breath work. We cover elemental design and the body types: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Dr. Gupta shares why news and social media inflame the mind. She provides tools like tea time and decompression points to build resilience. We explore the power of spices like turmeric for healing. Her approach focuses on physiology to change how the body manages stress and productivity for longevity.   Key Takeaways Mental inflammation is chronic emotional stress that creates low-grade inflammation and depletes your vitality, or OJUS. Self-care rituals like setting daily intentions and practicing breath work create a reservoir of peace. "Tea time is me time" acts as a physical trigger to shift the body into the parasympathetic nervous system for rest and digestion. Aligning with your circadian rhythm is essential; sleeping from 10 PM to 2 AM is the most important window for clearing inflammation. Elemental design identifies your specific body template (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha) to inform how you should manage your diet and energy. Consuming news and social media triggers a fear-based fight or flight state, contributing significantly to mental inflammation. For therapeutic benefits, use high volumes of spices (teaspoons, not sprinkles) like turmeric, ginger, and cumin in your cooking. When feeling sick, use the Kitchari protocol—a simple porridge that allows the gut to rest so the body can focus on healing.   Resources Dr. Shivani Gupta's Book: The Inflammation Code https://www.theinflammationcode.com/   Elemental Design Quiz: https://shivanigreenliving.clickfunnels.com/quiz   Dr. Shivani Gupta's Website: https://shivanigupta.com   Fusionary Formulas Website: https://fusionaryformulas.com Use the code GETLEANER for 15% Off   Nate Palmer: The founder of The Million Dollar Body and author of "The Million Dollar Body Method", Nate has been coaching for over 15 years and has worked personally with over 1,000 clients. If you're a health-focused entrepreneur who hustles hard but feels inflamed, exhausted, wired-but-tired, or out of rhythm with your body, this episode is for you. In this conversation, I sit down with Dr. Shivani Gupta to explore how chronic stress, circadian rhythm disruption, and nervous system overload are quietly driving inflammation, burnout, gut issues, hormone imbalance, and immune dysfunction—especially in high-achieving women. We talk about Ayurveda as a practical, modern lifestyle framework, not a trend, and how understanding your elemental design (dosha) can help you work with your biology instead of constantly fighting it. This episode is a grounding reminder that you can still be ambitious—and healthy—at the same time. What You'll Learn in This Episode 1. Why Stress Creates Inflammation (Even If You Eat "Healthy") Chronic mental and emotional stress keeps the nervous system locked in fight-or-flight, which directly fuels physical inflammation and chronic disease. We talk about why you can't live in hustle mode 24/7 without eventually draining your reserves—and how burnout is often the body's last signal to slow down. 2. Circadian Rhythm and Seasonal Hustle Not every season of life is meant for full throttle. We discuss how circadian rhythm and elemental design teach us when to push—and when to rest—so we don't burn out the very bodies we rely on to build our businesses. 3. Ayurveda 101: Understanding Your Elemental Design Dr. Shivani breaks down the three Ayurvedic constitutions in a modern, relatable way: Vata (air + ether): creative, fast-moving, prone to anxiety, dryness, insomnia Pitta (fire + water): driven, focused, prone to irritability, inflammation, overheating Kapha (earth + water): steady, nurturing, prone to sluggish metabolism, stagnation Knowing your type helps you eat, work, rest, and self-regulate more effectively—especially as an entrepreneur. 4. Food as Grounding, Not Restriction We talk about why: Vata types often need more carbs and healthy fats, not less Pitta types need cooling foods to calm inflammation Kapha types thrive with movement and warm, easy-to-digest meals This conversation reframes food as nourishment and regulation—not control. 5. Perimenopause, Menopause & Hormonal Shifts We dive into how Ayurveda supports women through hormone changes by focusing on: Sleep quality Gut health Stress regulation Circadian rhythm alignment Herbal and lifestyle support Rather than fearing these transitions, we talk about how to move through them with more resilience and self-trust.

You can be living what looks like a meaningful life, and *still* feel tired, disconnected, and burned out. In today's episode, I'm sharing a very helpful perspective through the lens of Ayurveda that has helped me reframe the “burned out” feeling I used to get on this journey. We're going to talk about the Ayurvedic Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, but less as a mind-body constitution and more as natural phases we move through while living out our life purpose. I'll share why seeing purpose in this way- as a cyclical process that includes seasons of creativity, action, and rest- can help us feel more empowered in sharing our life mission. We're going to dive into how chronic stress, burnout, and feeling out of alignment can come from ignoring our own mind-body-soul rhythms that naturally guide us through the years. Ayurveda, in particular, is such an amazing tool for us to know when it's time to fuel the dreams, put the pedal to the metal, or when to slow down (and without feeling guilty or like our dream life will be stalled). Press play, and let this episode remind you that you're never truly “behind” in living your purpose, you can just be moving through a new and renewing season!===Connect with me for daily inspiration, resources, and upcoming events to live your purpose:www.amandavsevilla.com/  Instagram.com/flourishwithpurposepodcast/Instagram.com/amandavsevilla/Tiktok.com/@amandavsevilla/Youtube.com/@amandavsevillaBy accessing this Podcast, I acknowledge that the entire contents are the property of Amanda Sevilla, or used by Amanda Sevilla with permission, and are protected under U.S. and international copyright and trademark laws. Send us a textIn this second episode of my perimenopause series, we explore Agni — your digestive and metabolic fire — and why it plays such a central role in the perimenopause transition. Ayurveda teaches that perimenopause isn't just a hormonal shift. It's a metabolic one. A deep recalibration in how the body digests food, processes experience, regulates energy, and maintains balance.Today, I walk through how Agni changes during this time, the three ways Agni can become imbalanced (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha styles), and how these patterns show up physically, mentally, and emotionally. We talk about the connection between digestion, estrogen metabolism, the nervous system, and why supporting your inner fire can bring more steadiness and clarity into this phase of life. This episode is both validating and deeply practical — a gentle guide to understanding your body through the lens of rhythm, nourishment, and internal wisdom. In this episode, I cover: • Why Ayurveda views perimenopause as a metabolic transition • How fluctuating estrogen affects Agni, digestion, heat regulation, and mood • The three main Agni patterns that show up during perimenopause — Vata/ Vishama Agni: irregular, sensitive, unpredictable — Pitta/ Tikshna Agni: hot, sharp, overactive — Kapha/ Manda Agni: slow, heavy, dull • Physical + emotional signs for each pattern • The role of fat tissue, the adrenals, and peripheral estrogen production • How Agni influences Rasa (hydration, lubrication, nourishment) • Why this time is a sacred window for tending your nervous system • Lifestyle, food, and pacing practices to support each type of Agni • The deeper spiritual meaning of tending your “sacred fire” during this transition • How metabolic steadiness supports hormones, sleep, immunity, and overall vitality • Why this transition is refinement — not declineResources:Ayurvedic Dosha Quick Reference Guide Abhyanga Self Massage Guide Weekend Nervous System Reset Nourished For Resilience Workbook Find me at www.nourishednervoussystem.comand @nourishednervoussytem on Instagram

Life can often feel unpredictable, whether from work pressures, social shifts, or simply the pace of the world. Ayurveda reminds us that stability isn't found in controlling the external world, but in cultivating steady rhythms and anchor habits within ourselves. In this episode, Colette explores how small, consistent daily habits can serve as anchors for your body, mind, and spirit. You'll learn why Ayurveda places such importance on daily self-care practices (dinacharya), how different doshas benefit from specific anchors, and how these tiny, steady routines ripple out to support digestion, sleep, energy, emotional balance, and longevity. Whether you're new to Ayurveda or looking to deepen your self-care practices, this episode will inspire you to choose just one simple anchor habit to bring more calm, clarity, and resilience into your life. What you'll learn in this episode: Why uncertainty often triggers “all-or-nothing” thinking and how anchor habits provide steadiness. Simple daily habit swaps to create calm energy, mental focus, and restful sleep. The Ayurvedic concept of dinacharya (daily routines) as a foundation for health. Dosha-specific anchors: grounding for Vata, cooling for Pitta, energizing for Kapha. How small, consistent habits ripple out to support nervous system resilience and longevity. As the seasons shift, your skin tells a story. Autumn's dry, cool winds can bring flakiness, sensitivity, or dullness, while lingering summer heat may still trigger redness or irritation. Ayurveda teaches us that these changes aren't random, they're reflections of dosha balance, digestion, and even our emotions. In this episode, we explore how to keep your skin radiant and resilient during autumn by understanding the connection between seasonal shifts, inner health, and emotional wellbeing. You'll learn how Vata and Pitta influence the skin at this time of year, why seasonal cleansing is key for preventing imbalance, and simple Ayurvedic rituals that nourish both inside and out. You'll discover: Why autumn is a sensitive time for the skin Dosha-specific tendencies and skin challenges in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha types The role of digestion and seasonal cleansing in radiant skin Emotional imbalances that can show up on the skin Ayurvedic rituals: oil cleansing, abhyanga, hydrating masks, diet, and grounding routines Your skin is more than surface deep, it's a reflection of your inner balance. Join me in this episode to discover how Ayurvedic wisdom can help you move into autumn with vitality, resilience, and a healthy glow. Have you ever noticed cravings sneak up when you're stressed, tired, or at the change of a season? Ayurveda teaches us that cravings aren't about willpower, they're messages from the body, pointing to imbalance. Whether it's toxins (ama), weak digestion (Agni), or long-held emotional patterns, cravings are signposts that something deeper is asking for attention. In this episode, Colette explores: The Ayurvedic view of cravings through the six tastes (rasa) How doshic imbalances (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) shape what we crave The difference between true nourishment and false cravings Why ultra-processed foods disrupt our natural signals How an Ayurvedic cleanse rekindles Agni and resets your palate The emotional side of cravings - samskaras, habits, and food as comfort Practical tips to integrate into everyday life with mindful eating, seasonal foods, and gratitude ✨ Special Invitation ✨ If you'd like to experience this reset for yourself, join my upcoming Group Digestive Reset Cleanse starting October 3rd.
