Episode originally broadcast on June 20, 2024. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2024/06/binary-system-podcast-415-wtnv-250-father-kevin/ It's a short recap this week, since the action for the latest episode episode of Welcome to Night Vale can basically be summed up with "And then there was a battle." We get a weird glimpse into the past (future?) of Kevin from Desert Bluffs, the Library Tweens need to, well, not learn to respect their elders so much as stop treating anyone over twenty as "elder", and Cecil has an awesome distraction, which we failed to mention includes the radio broadcast of the crash of the Hindenburg and the Indiana Jones theme. But mostly it's the battle, and we're still not one hundred percent sure what exactly happened. In a related note, this marks the twelve year anniversary of Welcome To Night Vale. Can you believe it? Twelve years of us obsessing over this weird little desert town. We're gonna go celebrate by raising a glass and...watching more Mayor of Kingstown. Because we're officially obsessed with that too. This week's outro is a clip from Break Unknown by TeknoAXE. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2023/11/binary-system-podcast-384-wtnv-237-frown-night-and-more-loki/ This week's episode of Welcome to Night Vale features the surprise return of Kevin from Desert Bluffs! AND Lauren, who's sporting a fashionable set of priestess robes and a permanent frown tattoo, courtesy of an angry mob that was at least partly Kevin's fault. The two frenemies spend the episode telling the story of Frown Night, and prove that while Kevin may have had a redemption arc and Lauren may have gotten her comeuppance, Desert Bluffs is still a terrible place to live. After that, of course, we've got an in-depth recap of season 2 episode 5 of Loki. We're not quite sure about some parts of this season; there seems to be two sets of writers with dueling consequences, Loki takes way too long to get up to speed on everyone's new lives, and really? You're serving bourbon in shot glasses?? But there are some satisfyingly twisty things going on with time, the spaghettification effects are mesermizingly gorgeous, and the season just went full-on meta, so how long until the next episode? This week's outro is a clip from Curious Satellite by Frau Holle. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/10/binary-system-podcast-238-welcome-to-night-vale-live-show-the-sandstorm/ So we waited and waited until we could hear the live performance of one of our favorite Night Vale episodes: The Sandstorm. And then we totally forgot about it until a week later. And then didn't watch it for another week after that. YES, WE KNOW. We'd like to blame the pandemic but this is kind of how we roll. It was worth the wait though, because of Live Kevin and all the extra guest roles and the Desert Bluffs radio booth covered in blood. (That's our favorite part!) After the recap we also get into the weekly SitRep with beers, geek out about the #LostLightFest on twitter and instagram, and then jump into a huge spoiler fest for The Good Place season three, the rewatch of Haunting of Hill House, and the latest two chapters of Lore Olympus. (Apollo needs to get his butt kicked so baaaaaaad.) This week's outro is a clip from Shake It! by Jahzzar. Tahani's sister on The Good Place, Kamilah, is played by Rebecca Hazlewood. The other actress who seems to die a horrible death in every show is Indira Varma. The artist Elizabeth was trying to think of is amne_chan on instagram, she's done a ton of dark and interesting Transformers pictures for Lost Light Fest, but this one from January is particularly awesome. https://www.instagram.com/p/B70lwe1B4-Q/ Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Don't forget to say Merry Christmas to the government agents running 24-hour surveillance on your business and home. (But avoid saying their name out loud when you're on the radio. That's just rude. Jeez, Cecil, were you raised in a barn?) Join the twins for the last podcast of the year as we recap Welcome To Night Vale Episode #80, where we get to know the new sheriff (he likes interpretive dance), find out more about the trial of the century (Hiram McDaniel's Violet head will be the key witness against the other four), and hear the proposal to tag all Desert Bluffs visitors so we'll know who in our community are the unwelcome ones. That's...not good. There's also a little more discussion about Star Wars. Which comes as a surprise to no one.
