June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is officially underway, and we are kicking it off with the 1980 British drama RICHARD'S THINGS, starring Liv Ullmann and Amanda Redman.RICHARD'S THINGS is the story of Kate, a woman whose husband Richard has the decency to die before the movie even really gets going, leaving behind his things — and, as Kate slowly pieces together, his mistress. What follows is a methodical, quivering-lipped journey through grief, betrayal, and the unlikely friendship that blooms between a widow and her late husband's younger lover, Josie. United by their mutual loss, mutual exasperation, and a shared appreciation for lighting a cigarette without ever actually smoking it, the two women navigate the emotional wreckage of loving the same deeply average man.There's so much to uncover in RICHARD'S THINGS. And by uncover, we don't mean nudity. There's not much of that. But there are omelets. There are hugs — intense, hard-R hugs. There is a burglar in slacks. There are disgruntled in-laws. Andy goes tubing in Big Bear and claims it’s even better than skiing but SOMEBODY disagrees. Andy and Ryan try to rehabilitate the cigarette industry. Ryan floats the idea of running for president based solely on revitalizing the American fireworks industry. Andy finds a subreddit where idiots are posting mall katanas and asking his valuable they are. Then Ryan accuses Andy of having “treatment resistant swordplay”. Andy runs out of people to talk about swords with and resorts to keeping a diary of his swordplay gainz. This infuriates O’Neill. Then O’Neill gets roasted by a listener in one of the funniest ways possible. O’Neill insists he is a very supportive friend and is very motivated to build Andy up. Then Andy has to negotiate taking a shit at O’Neill’s apartment. Then Andy cajoles O’Neill into going on Comics Unleashed and doing his 5’9 bit.

Martin sadly lost his battle with Stage 4 lung cancer earlier this week, surrounded by his family, listening to his famous tunes — and yes, it did include the Bay City Rollers. Martin and I knew each other for well over 30 years and formed a partnership filled with incredible chemistry and laughter. Together on the podcast, we shared not only stories and insights into health, illness, and resilience, but also the joy of everyday life — news, music, hobbies, and the kind of banter only old friends can deliver. Martin brought his unique voice, humour, and spirit to every episode, bravely speaking about his own journey with Stage 4 lung cancer as he fought with courage, honesty, and that unmistakable glint in his eye. His passion for good music — especially the classics — endeared him to listeners, and his ability to find laughter even in hard times defined the very soul of our show.
