Shall we begin like David Copperfield? "I am born…I grew up?" Or shall we begin about 120 years after Anne Rice's novel Interview with the Vampire took place, with AMC's brilliant TV adaptation shifting the story from Louis de Pointe du Lac as a wealthy white plantation owner in the 1790s to one where Louis is a Black man in the 1910s working the red light district to keep his family fed? That's one of the many brilliant changes Rolin Jones and his writers have made to Rice's beloved book, and Paul, Arlo, and Eric couldn't be happier. The gang discusses why these changes fit so well in a series driven by its characters' perceptions of reality; the beautiful work by a cast including Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Eric Bogosian, Bailey Bass, Delainey Hayles, and Assad Zaman; and why, yes, this Interview is just better than the book. NEXT: it's been a while since we've had a Four-Color Flashback, eh? Let's take back the night with J. Michael Straczynski and Gary Frank's Midnight Nation.

E.A. Poe, Ray Bradbury, H.P.

As AI technology gets bigger and bigger, so do data centers. Meta is building the largest data center in the world in a small Louisiana town. It'll have a footprint nearly the size of Manhattan, and the construction has brought an onslaught of heavy traffic. An investigation from the Gulf States Newsroom's Drew Hawkins found that trucks contracted to work at the Meta facility are causing delays and dangerous roads for the people who live there. There are few writers as closely associated with New Orleans as Anne Rice. Born and raised in the Irish Channel, Rice was famous for her Gothic fiction, notably The Vampire Chronicles. Throughout her career, she never forgot her New Orleans upbringing and Catholic roots, which played major roles in her writings. She died in 2021Earlier this month, the Orpheum Theater honored her life with An All Saints Day Celebration. And the celebration will be broadcast worldwide this Thanksgiving on AnneRice.com. Anne's son, Christopher Rice, and friend, Eric Shaw Quinn, produced the event and documentary. In this exclusive interview, she reveals what she really saw, what Netflix got wrong, and the shocking truth about how Milwaukee police had multiple chances to stop one of America's most notorious serial killers.

This week we watch a movie that takes several hundred episodes of the seminal gothic soap opera and condenses them to 90 brisk minutes of vampire melodrama in a way that is confusing and frustrating in ways that few movies are.Dark Shadows, for all its cheesiness and cheapness is one of the most important contributions to horror in the way that it added a dimension to vampire media that hadn't really been explored yet. Without Barnabas Collins you do not get Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. No Buffy The Vampire Slayer. No Vampire The Masquerade. In this episode we run it down in depth. Dave is a huge fan of the TV show and can't wait to tell you all about it and fill in the blanks where the movie fails because believe me, listeners, this movie fails big time. The wealthy Collins family receives a visit from long-lost cousin Barnabas but he conceals a terrible truth. He is a 200 year old vampire, freed from his prison of a hidden locked coffin by the Collins family handyman. He stalks the people of Collinsport by night and falls madly in love with the Collins family governess, Maggie, when she bears a striking resemblance the woman he once loved. It's basically Dracula but with a lot of really weird zigs and zags as it does its best encapsulate over one hundred hours of soap opera storytelling into a short feature film.Join the Bring Me The Axe Discord: https://discord.gg/snkxuxzJSupport Bring Me The Axe! on Patreon:https://patreon.com/bringmetheaxepodBuy Bring Me The Axe merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/bring-me-the-axe-podcast/

He's Marius, a real piece of work! They're... it doesn't matter who they are because once they become too difficult for him to deal with he just makes another younger vampire to replace them. Yes, it's our annual Anne Rice-a-thon! This time we read Blood and Gold, a book which recaps almost every other Vampire Chronicles book including and of course especially Memnoch the Devil, the one we refuse to read. You will not break us, Anne. This seems to be the eighth book in the series and we're pretty sure she's writing them just for us at this point. If you haven't read any of the other books or listened to our episodes on them, this may not be the best starting point - this book was clearly written for the loreseekers. You gotta be up on a whole host of weirdoes for this one to make a lot of sense. I didn't even remember some of these jabronis! So, remember all the gross grooming business from The Vampire Armand? (Real grooming, the youth pastor kind.) It is far, far more distressing in this book because now you see it from Marius' perspective instead of Armand's, and it is so much worse. We found it actively distressing. Additionally, this is generally a book about an enraging sack of shit mansplainer. It has all the traditional Anne Rice mess turned up to 11 (although surprisingly she elides the "shit your pants" part of turning into a vampire in this one? Small blessings.) So, read and listen with care for yourself.
The big weekend has arrived. Christopher and Eric are in New Orleans presenting ANNE RICE, AN ALL SAINTS' DAY CELEBRATION, a gorgeous tribute to our dearly departed Premiere Party Person, Anne Rice to #AnneFans who are lucky enough to be there in person. To mark the occasion here an hors d'oeuvre to tide you over till the web cast of the event premieres on AnneRice.com, they've put together an all new collection of some of their greatest interviews with our beloved Lady Anne. So, if you couldn't make it to New Orleans for the celebration, you can celebrate at home with this special episode. And stay tuned for the free film version of our big event, which should post to AnneRice.com in just a few weeks!

Our exploration of the spooky south continues with Neil Jordan's 1994 adaptation of Anne Rice's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE!We love the insane family dynamics of our vampire trio, and so this episode importantly praises Kirsten Dunst, is okay with Brad Pitt, is in awe of whatever Tom Cruise is doing, and is surprised by least erotic Antonio Banderas performance. We are of course finding a way to make this story about class, Nick compares Rice to Charles Dickens, and we ask the ultimate question: what does this have to do with Cher?Plus, more teenaged Erin lore surrounding her experience with this book, how this book and film changed fan fiction forever, and another edition of Graboid Onto These Facts.Next time on the pod we're getting into Noirvember with the Wachowski sisters' debut, BOUND!Note: there is a little audio hiccup around 46:00-47:00 -- it is temporary and does not occur throughout the episode.
You've met Lestat. Now it's time to meet Sabine, the sure-to-be-iconic vampire heroine of #1 New York Times bestselling author V.E. Schwab's "love letter to Anne Rice", BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL. Christopher and Eric welcome the beloved dark fantasy author to their latest AnneCast. Not only do they discuss the moving peer tribute she contributed to the documentary film for ANNE RICE, AN ALL SAINTS' DAY CELEBRATION, they talk about writing into the darkness, "stress testing" supernatural worlds and the changing faces of queerness in speculative fiction. It's a conversation as riveting as any of Victoria's many bestselling novels. Unfortunately, the author's beloved cat did not make an appearance. Listen to find out why.

Do you ever get the feeling that you're watching or reading… a lot about vampires? Sink your teeth into our second tale of one of New Orleans' darkest vampire legends: the Carter Brothers. Dockworkers by day, blood-drinkers by night, these two anomalies still haunt the streets of the French Quarter, with their 1932 case of vampiric crime, courtroom drama, and mysterious vanishings that blurred the line between fact and folklore. From vanished bodies to mental health myths and Anne Rice parallels, this one's part history, part hysteria, and all haunt. Perfect part deaux for this spooky season!Edited by Maxwell Holechek
Hotel Transylvania (1978) is the first of 25 novels and two short story collections in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's epic vampire series centering around the adventures of the Comte de Saint-Germain. Steeped in the court intrigues of 1740s Paris, Kate and Jack will encounter headstrong virgins, wicked yet incompetent Satanists, and a rather surprising amount of swashbuckling action. Why didn't Saint-Germain achieve the same heights of popularity as Anne Rice's Lestat? How do you handle a bunch of couch-surfing alchemists? What the hell is romantasy, anyway? All these questions and more will be explored in this episode of the podcast. This week, Spooky Cian and Kev return with a Halloween-ish episode full of monsters, mayhem, and media that almost fit the season. They kick things off wondering why 2025 has felt light on horror releases, before diving into Alien: Earth, the FX series turning the franchise into corporate sci-fi chaos. Then, Kev sings the praises of Interview With the Vampire—the stunning, dramatic re-imagining of Anne Rice's classic now streaming on Netflix. And just when you think it's all fangs and fear, the guys resurrect The Simpsons to ask: Is it good again? Plus, a cozy gaming pick perfect for spooky season—Isla of Frosty Glide, a charming witchy platformer that's as Halloween-adjacent as it gets.
It's gothic, it's moody, and it's kind of a mess. We sink our teeth into Neil Jordan's adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire. Tom Cruise goes full glam rock as Lestat, Brad Pitt pouts for two hours, and Kirsten Dunst steals the whole movie. We talk tonal whiplash, tragic wigs, and why this movie is equal parts fascinating and frustrating with return guest Jake Valkusky.___Please consider joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wwibofficialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@whywasntitbetterInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/wwib_officialX: https://x.com/WWIBpodcastLetterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/wwibpodcastSubscribe! Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror television series developed by Rolin Jones for AMC, based on The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, named after the first book. Starring Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt, it begins with the vampire Louis recounting his past and tumultuous relationship with the vampire Lestat. The series embraces the queer elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation, and deals with themes such as race and abuse. It is the first series set in the Immortal Universe, a shared universe based on Rice's novels. A series order was made in June 2021, after AMC Networks purchased the rights to intellectual property encompassing 18 of Rice's novels in 2020.The series premiered on October 2, 2022, with the first two seasons covering the events of the novel. The series was renewed for a third season in June 2024 and is slated to return in 2026 with the title The Vampire Lestat, covering the second book in the novel series. The series received positive reviews, with praise for its writing, costumes, soundtrack, production design, lead performances and their chemistry. It has received nominations at the Critics' Choice Television Awards and GLAAD Media Awards among others.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Our first October Timeless Terror movie honors the vampire!
Laci and Matt revisit Interview With The Vampire (1994), a movie the podcast covered back in 2018, in the Old Testament days. Much more care and attention is given this time, because there's so much to love… and so much to be confused by. Has a movie ever been dragged down so much by its whiny-baby lead character as this movie is by Louis (Brad Pitt)? Rather than spending eternity partying with his good buddy Lestat (Tom Cruise), he just putters around and around, moaning and complaining like some unholy combination of Charlie Brown and Eeyore. And rest assured, he will tell you, at length, about how conflicted he feels about the whole “vampire” thing. So get ready. Other than that, the movie's a blast. Tom Cruise is wonderful, Kirsten Dunst gives an all-time great kid performance, and the Stan Winston makeup can't be beat. The countdown to ANNE RICE, AN ALL SAINTS' DAY CELEBRATION continues. Your hosts continue to celebrate the incredible authors who generously offered our Premiere Party Person, Lady Anne, their peer tributes for the event's emotional documentary films celebrating her life and legacy. J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood novels are a global phenomenon, and the basis for a hit new television series, but their author is also one of Christopher's closest friends. Find out what happens when she meets Eric for the first time and the two are allowed to compare Christopher notes. The result is a rousing conversation about the incredible impact Anne's novels had on the iconic writer who brought vampires into the realm of romance fiction.
On this episode we trace the vampire's long, shadowy journey, from 18th-century graveyard panics and Slavic strigoi to the seductive aristocrats of Gothic fiction and the conflicted immortals of modern pop culture. We also will go into how the myth evolves on screen, from Nosferatu and Bela Lugosi to Anne Rice, Buffy, and beyond. We explore why the vampire keeps returning to embody everything we fear (and secretly crave): mortality, contagion, seduction, power, and immortality. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
