Send us a textAnnie stops by the show to discuss music, how Loki's Folly came together, anxiety, new music and more.******‘Retribution' is a song looking at the parallels of extreme sides of emotions and how we react to difficult things,” says Annie Kuchenmeister, guitarist and singer for Loki's Folly, the Minneapolis-based indie-punk trio made up of sisters Annie (24), Nissa (19) and their brother Oskar (15). “The verses are an exploration of defensive and protective anger - wanting to hurt those who hurt you. While there's gratification and justification to seeking retribution, the chorus creates a vulnerable opposition to these harsher feelings. It's really about just not wanting to be alone forever and wanting to be cared for after being hurt.” At its core, “Retribution” channels raw emotional honesty through the band's trademark blend of kinetic guitar work, cathartic drumming, and melodic grit - a sonic space where fury meets tenderness head-on. “This song came out of a lot of feelings of frustration and anger,” Annie continues. “Dealing with those big emotions can be hard, and I really didn't want to be consumed by them. So, this song became a way to lay everything bare - the good and the bad - and explore it all honestly. The music and lyrics really came together as a unit; as the melody came about, an old lyric idea immediately clicked.”Following on the heels of their September 2025 single (“King of All Alone”),” “Retribution” continues Loki's Folly's evolution toward deeper, more introspective songwriting. This reflective thread connects “King of All Alone” and “Retribution,” both songs were produced by Ryan Smith of Soul Asylum and born from turbulent emotional spaces that transform struggle into strength. Where “King of All Alone” aches with longing and cautious optimism, “Retribution” pushes back with defiant honesty - together forming a striking one-two punch from a band unafraid to confront both the chaos and the catharsis of modern life. Formed in South Minneapolis, Loki's Folly began as a project between sisters Annie and Nissa, later joined by their younger brother Oskar on bass. Their bond - both familial and creative - gives their music a distinct urgency, weaving together themes of identity, isolation, neurodivergence, and resilience. On their debut Sisu, the band worked with legendary producers Ryan Smith (of Soul Asylum), Ed Ackerson (The Replacements, The Jayhawks), Kevin Bowe (Etta James, Jonny Lang), and John Fields (Jonas Brothers, Andrew W.K.), crafting a record that explored the complexities of adolescence and the emotional weight of finding one's voice in an uncertain world. While Sisu introduced listeners to their youthful defiance and eclectic spirit, “Retribution” feels like a step into something more introspective - a song that acknowledges the anger beneath the surface, but also the fragile hope that lingers within it. It's a fitting next chapter for a band growing up in public, unafraid to document the messy process of becoming. For more info about the band: https://lokisfolly.com/****If you would like to contact the show about being a guest, please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Shrouded in secrecy and buzz ahead of its release, Saltburn is positioned as a darkly seductive psychological descent into obsession, privilege, and power within Britain's elite upper class. The film centers on Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan – The Banshees of Inisherin, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), a socially awkward Oxford student who becomes dangerously infatuated with the effortless charm and wealth of his classmate Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi – Euphoria, Priscilla). When Oliver is invited to spend the summer at Felix's sprawling family estate, Saltburn, he's drawn into a world of excess, manipulation, and unspoken rules—where fascination curdles into something far more unsettling. The ensemble deepens the film's menace and allure, including Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, I Care a Lot) as Felix's icy, enigmatic mother; Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Loki) as the aristocratic patriarch; Alison Oliver (Conversations with Friends) as Felix's sharp and perceptive sister Venetia; and Archie Madekwe (Midsommar, Gran Turismo) as Farleigh, whose presence complicates the estate's delicate social hierarchy. With Emerald Fennell's signature blend of razor-sharp dialogue, moral discomfort, and lush visual storytelling, Saltburn has shaped up to be one of the most talked-about thrillers in recent years —inviting audiences into a world where beauty, desire, and cruelty exist side by side. Loki was never just a villain you defeat. He was a character who changed the shape of the story. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, we take a deep, character-first look at Loki's journey—from his origins in Phase One, through his tragic end in the Infinity Saga, to the radical reinvention that begins in Loki. This isn't a hype episode. It's about identity, consequence, and self-awareness. We explore how Loki's early belief that power equals purpose ultimately fails him… why his Infinity Saga ending had to be permanent… and how the TVA forces a version of Loki to confront his entire life in a single hour—stripping away denial and revealing who he could become. Along the way, we talk about: Phase One Loki's insecurity and performance Why Loki never outruns consequence in the Infinity Saga The TVA as a psychological experiment Earned growth vs forced clarity And why Loki now stands at the center of the Multiverse—not as a conqueror, but as a guide This is a story about beginnings and endings. About changing the long way—and the fast way. And why Loki may no longer be chasing a throne…but standing at the crossroads of everything that comes next.
In this episode, host BT explores the depths of myth and the journey of self-discovery through the lens of Norse mythology, particularly focusing on Odin as the archetype of the seeker. He delves into the significance of sacrifice for wisdom, the confrontation with the shadow self, and the chaos represented by figures like Fenrir and Loki. The conversation culminates in the understanding of Ragnarok as a necessary breakdown for transformation and the emergence of a new self, inviting listeners to embrace their own mythic journey.

Now we are in the thick of it all. New betrayals, broken love, angst, agony, achny....It is all here and it is all teen drama all the time. But will they succeed, will they untangle the knots Loki has tied, ill their playlists be appreciated? Who knows. Fashion is really important, especially when you are going to try to kill someone. Trust me about this. I have had to do this ritual multiple times....at least in my head. When you prep for murder, you must make sure to brag and show off as well. Some people would have you believe that you should go for quiet and stealthy when you are about to bring the murder. Those people are wrong. Dial up the color and speakers and make a show. You should also bring friends when you go a killing. First off, they will help you bury the bodies. Always a plus. Additionally, they bring other skills to the table, and usually there is someone that has a deck of cards. A good way to kill time while waiting to....kill. Now, there is a limit to the number of people that you should bring with you on this excursion. Four to five is a good number. Multiple dozens are too much. First of all, a tour bus is very obvious when you are driving around. Trust me. It is up to you and your mob about how loud you want to be when you go taking on the innocent. Yelling and throwing flashy lights around is a choice, and could be good camo when you are at an EDM concert. Let's face it, you are not going to go murdering. You are probably going to go fighting. In that case, have fun, but make sure you are stylin. Welcome to Issue 301of Critical Encounters, a podcast about Marvel Champions, a Living Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games. Here we take a good look at that most critical piece of the game, the Encounter Sets. We'll discuss those poorly understood characters, unfairly labeled Villains, and their various plans to shape humanity and benefit the planet, as well as those so-called heroes intent on thwarting them. In this Interrogation Room Issue we sit down with Designer Michael Boggs and talk Trickster Takeover Scenario Pack. Matt and Eric slide down the rainbow bridge and dive into THOR, the story of an a-hole alien hunk who becomes a better dude after meeting Natalie Portman while his scheming emo brother tries to trauma dump. It's a hoot!
A new book for our podcast, and we are coming in at the end of the story. This is the second volume of the Young Avengers, and it is a hoot. A fun and intelligent romp with a fascinating group of characters. And then, some members of Power Pack show up. Ok. let's try and untangle this So, what is going on here? A bad decision was made thanks to some nefarious maneuvers by kid Loki. That resulted in an entity name Mother to swoop in and start to make the lives of the Young Avengers miserable. Now lovers are questioning relationships, adults are being jerks, and the kids are not all right. Let us focus in on the bone head that is Noh-Varr. Dude is seeing Kate Bishop. He should be honored that she is giving him the time of day and not using his stupid head for target practice. This guy has the nerve to have a wondering eye. We are just going to pretend that it is Noh-Varr's face that America Chavez is punching.....ahhhhhh And then there is Loki, the cause of this and many other messes. What is his story? Why is he a kid? Why is he being all nice and stuff? why does he have to be like that? Does he just need a hug? Why is he always blowing up? This time, he just blew himself up into a more mature looking adult Of course we know that he only looks the part, and that he does not act mature. That would be too much to ask for. After all of the changing and posturing, it always ends up that Loki will just be Loki. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I could write more of these altruisms, but I think I am done for now. What wonders await us next month? Stay tuned dear listeners..... Filmmakers Paul Gandersman and Peter S. Hall (MAN FINDS TAPE) join Adam and Joe to discuss their career journey together and the making of their debut feature MAN FINDS TAPE (available in select theaters and on VOD now). From first meeting and becoming friends attending screenings and festivals in Austin, TX… to making short films together for several years… to writing their debut feature MAN FINDS TAPE in a way where they felt they could potentially just make it on their own if they couldn't find a production company willing to take it on… to handing off their screenplay to producer Dave Lawson (Rustic Films) who in turn brought on producers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (SOMETHING IN THE DIRT, THE ENDLESS, LOKI, DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN) and took the duo under their wings… to what they learned from the writing process once they were actually shooting their script… to how they put together such a terrific cast by not having tunnel vision on a "type" they envisioned for each character during the writing process… to how they adjusted their shooting strategy and pivoted whenever a hurdle interfered with their pre-production plans, Paul and Peter are a terrific example of why working with friends is the best way to work. Also, Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" for a listener that's interested in the process behind creating memorable movie maniacs and a surprise guest crashes the final minutes of the conversation!
