#ActuallyAutistic Hosts, Dr. Angela Lauria and Matt Lowry, LPP, discuss the many autistic themes and characters in TV show "The Good Place.”The character Chidi displays numerous Autistic traits, including a clear special interest he can insert into any conversation, process complexity, a concrete thinking style, consistent anxiety, interoception difficulties, and a high level of integrity adhering his own personal morality. His method of reading tables of contents to calm down also resonates—especially with Angela!“So Chidi, my god, if there's ever an autistic coded character, it is definitely Chidi.” —MattEleanor is Queer, loyal, and a human “bullshirt” detector. She demonstrates perspective-taking challenges, a tendency to miss allistic social cues, direct communication, and is lectured about her “tone.” Her backstory of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) also fits the pattern of many late-diagnosed autistic women.Jason embodies passionate interests with his fixation on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Molotov cocktails. This monotropic focus combined with a tendency to be inattentive aligns with ADHD which has a lot of overlap with autism.“Well, so back in May, they discovered that ADHD brains are hyperconnected just like ours. So that's why there's such a large overlap. And now, again, for the longest time…they knew that our brains were immune to the mTORs, which caused the hyperconnected brains, which again, they try to cure us by pruning our brains, which resulted in a lot of brain cancer.” —MattThe gradual evolution of the AI Janet's identity, as she asserts her preferences beyond what her original programming dictated, mirrors an autistic unmasking journey.Tahani is exhausted from a lifetime of masking to fit her family's standards. Actor Jameela Jamil shares she has EDS, POTS, mast cell activation syndrome, and other conditions common among autistic individuals.Architect Michael displays fascination with humans, impatience with excessive details, preference for concrete examples over philosophical debate, and a literal interpretation style.Overall, the hosts see The Good Place as profoundly Autistic in its monotropic moral philosophy focus, diverse representation of neurodivergence, and insightful illustrations of autistic experiences.Starting around 53:24 Angela spontaneously demonstrates which aspects of Autistic Culture? fWotD Episode 2406: Janet(s) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Wednesday, 6 December 2023 is Janet(s)."Janet(s)" is the tenth episode of the third season of the American fantasy-comedy television series The Good Place. The thirty-sixth episode of the series overall, it originally aired in the United States on NBC on December 6, 2018, as the show's mid-season finale. "Janet(s)" was written by Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan and was directed by Morgan Sackett. After rediscovering the afterlife earlier in the season, Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason help others on Earth alongside afterlife architect Michael and assistant Janet. In the episode, the four humans find themselves transformed into versions of Janet as they seek to escape demons from the Bad Place. Eleanor tries to address her romantic feelings for Chidi and has an identity crisis when he denies any feelings for her. Meanwhile, Michael and Janet visit Accounting, the section of the afterlife that calculates point totals for people's good and bad actions during their lives, to determine if the Bad Place is manipulating the points system. The premise of the episode originated during production of the show's second season, and the writers studied concepts of identity and the self for the episode. D'Arcy Carden, who plays multiple versions of Janet in the episode, prepared for her role by watching rehearsals of her castmates and following the actors between scenes. Filming took place in July 2018 and required significantly more visual effects than normal; several crew members wondered during production if the finished product would make sense.Seen by 2.58 million viewers in its original broadcast, "Janet(s)" received praise from critics; Carden's performance earned widespread acclaim. It was ranked as one of 2018's best television episodes by many publications. Analysis of the episode has focused on its discussion of the meaning of the self, as well as why nobody had reached the Good Place in over five centuries. The episode won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, and Siegal and Morgan were nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for their work on the episode. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:25 UTC on Wednesday, 6 December 2023.For the full current version of the article, see Janet(s) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Stephen Neural.

On The Good Place, Tahani worries that her entertaining skills aren't a valuable contribution to the experiment, Michael goes up against Vicky wearing a Michael suit at Demon-Con, and Derek tries to fill in for Janet while Michael and Jason are off trying to rescue her from the Bad Place. On the podcast, Jon Spira-Savett talks with two college students, Sadie Meltzer and Lela Spira-Savett! On The Good Place, Eleanor tries to orchestrate Chidi's growth behind the scenes by sending Jason to reveal that he is not a monk and to swear Chidi to secrecy. Yet it only leads Chidi to stomachaches. Tahani tries the same with John by bringing him to various VIP experiences so she can coax him to learn ethics, but eventually she has to figure out how to talk with him directly about his hurtful work on earth. On the podcast, Rebecca Rosenthal and Jon Spira-Savett delve into the Torah's mitzvah of hochay'ach to'chiach -- a delicate dance of direct feedback, sensitivity to how the other person receives it, and awareness of what is going on within yourself that prompts your feedback in the first place. We are taking a quick interlude to talk about the theological themes within the show "The Good Place." This is something that Gretchen and Katie chat about often, and decided to actually record one of these conversations. This is a comedy show about the after-life, and in that, they are grappling with the problem of sin, and how to deal with it with both justice and mercy. The characters in the show are Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason, (and of course, the "angel" Michael). The show begins when Eleanor dies, and arrives at "The Good Place." Michael greets her and shows her around, and praises all of the good things she did during her life. We soon find out that there's been a mistake. Eleanor was not the person Michael described. She's a horrible sinner who was mistakenly sent to "The Good Place" and only she knows this. Overwhelmed with guilt for being given an afterlife she did not deserve, and surrounded by people better than her, she goes through different stages to try to cover for, or atone for her sin, but she can't seem to be good, no matter how hard she tries. This guilt begins to torture her as she feels trapped and watches "The Good Place" crumble around her because of her sin. This is a lighthearted and yet deep conversation of what happenes when you try to deal with sin without a savior, and also the harm that is done to other people when we attempt to justify ourselves. On the final episode of Season 3 of The Good Place, Tahani encounters John the gossip columnist, and Eleanor leans on the group as Chidi decides he needs to erase his memories of her when Simone arrives in the new experiment. On the podcast, Elliot Goldberg and Jon Spira-Savett return to the theme of friendship – through their experiences as “architects” in schools and camp, and revisiting a Talmudic-era teaching about what friends do for each other's life and moral development. Click here for show notes.
On The Good Place, the group arrives at the Good Place and encounters Gwendolyn and the Good Place committee, and Tahani tries to help Janet and Jason deal with the revelation about their prior relationship. On the podcast, Leora Kling Perkins and Jon Spira-Savett explore, apply, and wonder about the Talmudic concept of “righteous in one's generation”, which is initially suggested in a discussion judging Noah's action in the terrible world that preceded the biblical Flood story. If standards really are relative to the times, is there a way to know how demanding they should be? Click here for show notes.

On “The Good Place”, the humans meet the Judge, who gives each of them an individualized test that they all must pass or none of them can go on to the real Good Place. On the podcast, Elliot Goldberg and Jon stress test the Talmud's six-part afterlife questionnaire on Eleanor, Tahani, Jason and Chidi, and wonder why all-knowing beings love binge-watching more than reading the New Yorker. Click here for show notes.
On “The Good Place”, Janet makes and reabsorbs Derek, her rebound guy; Tahani and Jason almost get married; and Eleanor reveals to Chidi their love from a previous reboot. On the podcast, David Shyovitz and Jon roam through Talmudic and medieval Jewish texts about soulmates – whether they are earthly or for the next world, whether they are decreed on high or discovered in life, and what the stakes of those questions really are in Jewish thought. Click here for show notes.
On “The Good Place” both Michael and Tahani experience their own crises — existential, midlife, and otherwise — and Eleanor and Jason help them through it. On the podcast, Julee Levine and Jon wonder which dimensions of such crises spur us forward, with some help from the biblical book of Ecclesiastes. Click here for show notes!

THIS is the Bad Place! Right here at SOB pod, we are the Bad Place. The worst place. It's all fire squids and non-stop conversation about Supernatural here. Except this week, where we talk about The Good Place instead. We are talking about The Good Place, our second ever Kristen Bell franchise, because it's Lauren's BIRTHDAY, and she has an infatuation with that tiny little blonde and this HOUSE THAT HER CHARACTERS ARE ALWAYS IN. So we sort Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason, all the Brainy Bunch Soul Squad, but we also sort Michael and Janet too, because why not? We gotchu girl (or not a girl). Anyway, pick up a cactus, hope on a train, and help us sort this delightful foursome (plus two). I think you'll find we have a full castle.
The Faoii Order is the shield of Imeriel. Wielding both magic and blade, these women have held back ancient evils and maintained sacred rites for millennia. But when a dark war uncovers secrets that even the Faoii cannot keep hidden, it starts a chain of events threatening the free will of an entire continent. As old leaders fall and new ones rise to take their place, a warrior, a thief, and a launderer all strive to fix what's been broken. But none can see how their actions affect the Eternal Tapestry—and all are unknowingly bound to the Threads that the others grasp. In an intricate tale that spans centuries, The Faoii Chronicles is both empowering and immersive. Everyone has the power to forge their own destiny—and even the smallest actions can change the Weave in monumental ways.Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F58Z551
Original broadcast date October 15, 2020. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/10/binary-system-podcast-238-welcome-to-night-vale-live-show-the-sandstorm/ So we waited and waited until we could hear the live performance of one of our favorite Night Vale episodes: The Sandstorm. And then we totally forgot about it until a week later. And then didn't watch it for another week after that. YES, WE KNOW. We'd like to blame the pandemic but this is kind of how we roll. It was worth the wait though, because of Live Kevin and all the extra guest roles and the Desert Bluffs radio booth covered in blood. (That's our favorite part!) After the recap we also get into the weekly SitRep with beers, geek out about the #LostLightFest on twitter and instagram, and then jump into a huge spoiler fest for The Good Place season three, the rewatch of Haunting of Hill House, and the latest two chapters of Lore Olympus. (Apollo needs to get his butt kicked so baaaaaaad.) This week's outro is a clip from Shake It! by Jahzzar. Tahani's sister on The Good Place, Kamilah, is played by Rebecca Hazlewood. The other actress who seems to die a horrible death in every show is Indira Varma. The artist Elizabeth was trying to think of is amne_chan on instagram, she's done a ton of dark and interesting Transformers pictures for Lost Light Fest, but this one from January is particularly awesome. https://www.instagram.com/p/B70lwe1B4-Q/ Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? On “The Good Place” Eleanor is excited when she is polite for the first time without thinking, Tahani's philanthropy doesn't score enough points with her parents or the algorithm, and Chidi doesn't find pleasure in doing the most good. So on the podcast Jon has his first stomach ache and Sari Laufer (new rabbi on the team) helps us think more about where measuring goodness does and doesn't make sense. Oh, and where intellectual vs. sensual pleasure fits in! Find complete show notes for the episode here!
On “The Good Place” Michael tries to guide Chidi and Janet toward new things, but it's Eleanor who finds unexpected inspiration because of Tahani. So on the podcast, Jon Spira-Savett and Audrey Marcus Berkman explore reincarnation Jewish-style and who the teacher you need turns out to be. Find complete show notes for the episode here!

Tahani Nelson talks to me about her first book Last Faoii as part of her epic fantasy series.
On this very engaging F.I.R.E. episode, Tahani talks to one of North America's leading real estate coaches who has worked with thousands of agents and hundreds of teams to transform 80% of them to be at the top 1% producers. She is also the owner of a coaching company, Kathleen Black Coaching and Consulting, Inc., the lovely Kathleen Black. Building on her expertise in the field of real estate and being recognized within the top 1% of realtors, Kathleen launched her own company, Kathleen Black Coaching And Consulting, Inc. It was not an easy process because so many things had to be considered. There are concerns on the willingness to adapt to different personalities, creating roles and nurturing greatness within her own team. Early on in her career, she has learned the power to leverage things by taking off pressure in her personal life and delegating chores like cooking and cleaning. She has earned mastery of using leverage and this has helped a lot of agents and teams with their own personal stories. There is a huge amount of invaluable expertise that you can get from just listening to this episode. So brace yourself as Kathleen shares what she is passionate about, how to move into a business owner's mindset, creating better work life balance and the like. In closing, Kathleen invited the listeners to her new book, "The Top 1% Life" which will be launched soon. What You Will Discover In This Episode: How to get rid of the scarcity mentality? What is leverage? How do you use it when you are starting a business? Mentorship is an investment and not a cost. Things to consider when hiring. What is D.I.S.C. profile assessment? Successful women still face a lot of scrutiny even at this age. How to embrace the feeling of being fully deserving? Quotes: “What does it look like to take some of the things off my plate so I can have a better life? “It's okay to leverage things?” “No matter what, I can't win, I might as well do it my way and make it work.” “A great team works with leverage to enhance the client experience, not diminish it.” “Mentorship is massive.” “80% of people with a mentor will actually take steps to create a business.” “I don't care what you know, if I can't trust you.” “Until you are already on top of the mountain, there is not much point in envisioning and innovating. Until you are on top of the mountain where you already see everything that was already created.” “People who are doing so well all have coaches.” "The best investment we can ever make is in ourselves." “Good people make a good team.” “I refuse not to have choices.” Links: https://www.kathleenspeaks.com/ https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc/overview/ https://www.amazon.com/Top-1-Life-Business-Confidence-ebook/dp/B07Z5FYBW7 Resources: F.I.R.E F.I.R.E. This week, in the second of two episodes based on the series finale, the Good Sisters focus on the three characters who didn't go through the door: Tahani, Michael, and Janet. Tahani prompts us to think about the meaning of forgiveness; Michael raises questions about visiting a theme park after you've already been behind the curtain and seen how all the rides work; and Janet evokes meditation on what we truly need from those we love. There's no crying this time, though, we swear! Plus four (!) pieces of listener feedback. CONTENT NOTE: Your hosts have a serious discussion of suicide (based on a related article from The Atlantic) between the time codes 58:15 and 1:11:25. Please skip this chunk of the show if that's what serves you best. You can pick back up at 1:11:25 without losing the thread of discussion.
It's SIMPLY THE TEST! BETTER THAN OTHER TESTS! This week, the Good Sisters are asking the hard questions: how much sense does Vicky's test for Tahani really make? Why was this weak Cheleanor subplot included? Just how long is a Jeremy Bearimy?! Join us as we slide into the final episodes with absolutely no idea what happens after the golden balloon to the Real Good Place. Plus: a fairly long epilogue with even more discussion of SW:TRoS.
Shirt gets real this week when resident "born on third base, thinks he invented baseball" resident Brent writes a book that makes that piece of pulpy trash that Bill O'Reilly wrote in the '90s look like the latest Zadie Smith novel. If this were truly The Good Place, Simone and Tahani would not be obligated to even think about this tripe . . . but it's The Experiment Place, and things are a lot more complicated here. Plus, a new iTunes review, the episode titles up to the midseason break (!!!), and our usual review of the last 5 minutes of the show in the 8:30 slot (BRADLEY WHITFORD SAYS THE WORD "TWERK," Y'ALL).
Part two of our conversation with Racha Tahani Lawler, a licensed midwife. And Brandi Sellers-Jackson, doula, baby wearing expert and creative. Special Thanks to DJ Phatrick for sound and engineering. To learn more about our show visit www.bbsaretrash.com
On part one of a two part episode, the mamas are joined by Racha Tahani Lawler, a licensed midwife. And Brandi Sellers-Jackson, doula, baby wearing expert and creative. We talk about supported birthing outside of the hospital experience, Racha's mandatory 30 days in bed for all her new moms and one of Brandi's biggest fears.
