On this week’s Night Vale recap THERE’S BEEN A MURDER. It’s the same murder we heard about last week, but as Cecil points out it’s still true, and it’s a heck of a hook for a radio program. Here’s hoping the WikiHow article can show Cecil how to solve it before someone else gets murdered... The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2025/11/binary-system-podcast-481-mayor-of-kingstown-and-star-trek-lower-decks/This week we're recapping episode 3 of the last season of Mayor of Kingstown, where pretty much everything is spiraling out of Mike's control. Rival gang members are murdering each other and setting their hangouts on fire, Kyle's falling under the influence of a dangerous inmate, Robert is a drunk time bomb ready to explode, and both Bunny's new friend and the new Warden are playing a dangerous game of "I'm the most powerful person here" and also "I really didn't take all the variables into account." But, y'know, that hot young rookie guard seems to have won Mike over by being nice to him, so hopefully she won't die. After that, Kathryn watched episode 6 of the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, which continues to be hilarious and freaking good-hearted. We also went off on a couple of tangents in this episode to rant about annoying AI recaps, and ads, and good god people, flogging a $400 gourmet lobster dinner delivery while people are trying to figure out how to feed their family do you really think this is the time and aaaarrrrgggh, why is Capitalism??This episode's outro is a clip from Millenia from Karl Casey @ White Bat.Follow along with the DragonFall Drawing Challenge on Instagram at FandragonAdams or Llyzabeth, or with the hashtag DragonFallDrawingChallenge2025.Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? This week on The Underground Lounge, Lou Williams and Spank Horton welcome Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist, educator, and actor D Smoke into the Lounge for one of the most layered and inspiring conversations yet. Coming straight out of Inglewood, D Smoke opens up about growing up in a musical household led by his gospel-singing mother, who taught him and his brothers the fundamentals of music from an early age. From learning piano at five to earning a full academic scholarship to UCLA, he shares how his foundation in discipline and faith set the tone for everything that came after.D Smoke takes the crew through his early start in the industry, writing for Jaheim at 19, building a home studio with his brothers, and navigating the highs and lows of being young and talented in Los Angeles. He talks about the family legacy that runs deep through his bloodline, including his grandmother's work with legends and the tough choices his mom made between touring with Stevie Wonder and raising her kids. The conversation dives into his time on Netflix's Rhythm + Flow, where his viral exchange with Snoop Dogg and eventual win put him on the global map, and the lessons he learned from that experience about authenticity and preparation. D Smoke also discusses his passion for teaching and how his work as an educator helped him connect to his community beyond music. From mastering Spanish and bringing bilingual storytelling into hip-hop, to finding balance between the streets and spirituality, D Smoke breaks down how duality shaped his artistry and worldview. He also opens up about stepping into acting, from early roles as a teen to his recent work on Mayor of Kingstown, and how storytelling in all forms fuels his purpose. The Lounge closes out with real talk on faith, family, boxing, mentorship, and what it means to lead with integrity in an industry built on perception. It's an episode that celebrates intellect, art, and the grind it takes to rise from Inglewood to international acclaim.

It's a brilliantly creepy, slow burn of a film, Hugh Grant somehow manages to be charming and terrifying at the same time, and the plot is...well we're not going to spoil the plot because you really need to see this one. What we are going to spoil is everything that happened in the Season 4 premiere of Mayor of Kingstown. And oh boy, this season is gonna be brutal. Kyle's going to prison, Bunny's best friend is looking down the barrel of a prison war, there's a new gang leader executing rival gang members with a train, and Evelyn looks like she's realized how much she actually cares about Mike right as Mike kicks her out of his life. We also discuss the art of embracing imperfection and how the emotion behind the music is maybe more important than the music itself. Andrew also reveals why he thinks that only 50% of composing is actually about the music.   Andrew Lockington is best-known for his epic scores to the Warner Bros. blockbusters San Andreas, Rampage and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, which together have surpassed over $1 billion in box office revenues. Recent and current credits include Netflix's epic sci-fi feature Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez and several projects with Taylor Sheridan including Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman. Andrew is always looking to push the boundaries of film scoring which has led him to recording in exotic locations like jungles of Papua New Guinea, ancient temples in Northern Japan, a volcano in Polynesia and an abandoned subway station beneath central London. Here's 81-year-old Father Ron Knott in a wide ranging conversation with Terry Meiners on Heaven, humor, the impact of prayers, sin, loneliness, and living life as a Catholic priest.bio from his website at fatherknott.comI am a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, Kentucky. Ordained May 16, 1970, I have served as a home missionary, college teacher, campus minister, pastor, cathedral rector, traveling evangelist, homiletics instructor, archdiocesan vocation director, founding director of the Saint Meinrad Seminary Institute for Priests and Presbyterates and a weekly columnist for 15 years.I have given major addresses at national conventions on church renovation, parish revitalization, homiletics, presbyteral unity and vocations. I have presented more than 80 parish missions and retreats and led more than 150 presbyteral convocations around the US and nine countries abroad.I have a Master of Divinity degree from Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana and a Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Presbyterian Seminary in Chicago. I have authored several books for clergy and published several collections of my homilies and fifteen volumes of my For the Record book series. A few of my books for clergy are available in Spanish, Vietnamese and Swahili. In my retirement, besides the things listed above, I had been volunteering in the Diocese of Kingstown in the island country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and serving as the founder of the Catholic Second Wind Guild (a volunteer organization for retired priests and lay people wanting to volunteer their time, expertise, connections in the Caribbean missions). After six years and twelve trips, I recently ended that organization due to COVID and travel restriction. With a major volcano eruption, it has become obvious that I need to make a wise and timely decision to find a cause closer to home. Long distance travels seem to be a “thing of the past” at least for the foreseeable future. In April of 2021, I decided to focus my attention on my home parish of Saint Theresa of Avila an hour away from where I now live. I have the dream of turning my old grade school building, Saint Theresa School which was closed in 1993, into a new Saint Theresa Family Life Center to serve the whole area.  My third cousin, Father Bob Ray, another priest from the same parish, is partnering with me by founding the Saint Theresa Heritage Partners, an alumni organization of the parish and school, to support this effort. I will lead the remodeling project of the Saint Theresa Family Life Center. Click on St. Theresa Heritage Partners and St. Theresa Family Life Center in the menu bar for more information.

Andrew Lockington is a film and television composer who composed the scores for many films including blockbuster hits City of Ember, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Sandreas, and Rampage, as well as hit television shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Special Ops: Lioness, and his latest Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton. He also created the opening theme for Amazon Prime's Monday Night Hockey. Andrew's work is known for its creativity and attention to detail. We spoke about some of those techniques like how he recorded in a prison for Mayor of Kingstown and used its gates, walls, bars as musical instruments. Andrew explains how this kind of extra effort can help us bring out the emotional impact in our work. Listen on Apple, Spotify, YouTube Takeaways: Andrew's recent projects showcase a diverse range of musical styles. The line between film and TV music is increasingly blurred. Creating sound palettes involves collaboration and experimentation. Embracing imperfections can lead to more authentic music. Recording in unique locations can enhance the emotional impact of a score. Music should reflect the humanity of characters, even in villains. The environment where music is recorded influences its sound and feel. Collaboration with trusted partners can uncover hidden musical gems. Storytelling through music can bridge gaps between characters and viewers. The stories behind music can enhance the emotional experience. Creating music should focus on conveying emotion rather than technical perfection. Imperfections in music can add character and authenticity. Accidental discoveries in music production can lead to unique sounds. Simplicity in recording can yield powerful results. The creative process is often unpredictable and requires openness to change. Music can evoke feelings that are difficult to quantify or replicate. Trusting one's instincts in music production can lead to profound outcomes. As a post-holiday treat, Marvel Animation dropped its first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, premiering in January. The short teaser trailer gives us a good look at the Hudson Thames-voiced Peter Parker and a glimpse of Norman Osborn, who is voiced by Colman Domingo. Other voice talent for the show features Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D'Onofrio. If you enjoyed diving back into the dark, broody, Gotham of Matt Reeves Batman universe during The Penguin, get ready to be disappointed. It was announced that The Batman II has been pushed from its 2026 release date to October 1, 2027. The film is set to begin production in the last half of 2025 and DC co-chief James Gunn cited Reeves working to perfect the script as some of the reason for delay. The October 2, 2026 date formerly held by The Batman II is being taken by a film coming from The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise. The triumph of the sequel movies continues at the box office this holiday season with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having a very successful opening before Christmas to a $62 million domestic debut and has now climbed to a worldwide total of $159.5 million. Though Disney's prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, fell short of opening projections, the holiday season has been kind to the film as it currently holds a $221.7 million global box office. Wicked and Moana 2 still hold the overall crowns at the box office and Matt Eggers' Nosferatu, which debuted on Christmas Day, is sitting quietly but solidly at $26 million domestically for three days. The first trailer for A24 dark comedy Death of a Unicorn has been released. The film, written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and hits theaters in the spring of 2025.
