This week: The crew kicks off with some genuinely great news: Gary Chalk (the voice of Optimus Primal!) has beaten stage four Hodgkin's lymphoma and is in full remission. From there it's all Transformers chaos — the Generation Selects Monstrucker reveal has everyone hyped (Slog's alt mode is literally just a triceratops standing up, and somehow that's perfect), while 2026 product listings bring a BotCon-referencing Megazarak redeco, an Earthrise Autobot 3-pack with finally-opaque Datsun plastics, and a Walmart Energon capsule that the crew suspects will be drowning in clear plastic. In-hand photos of the Stranger Things crossover Frequency impress even the hosts who've never watched the show. All that and more on this week's Radio Free Cybertron!
Layne and Jon see the fallout to Bumblebee’s near assassination in The Transformers 14 and get hints of crossover things to come in the Transformers portion of Classified Secrets to Infestation, both from IDW in 2010!

Send a textOkay, here's the 4-1-1: A bunch of guys and one woman put on masks and take on different personas. Sounds like the cartoon version of “Eyes Wide Shut”. That might be worth exploring!Kids, this is the story of how this turbo-charged show came to syndication. Is there a movie in the works? Was this show the unholy child of “The Transformers” and “G.I.: Joe”? Just what was the Penetrator? All these questions, and more, will be answered in this look at M.A.S.K.! Thanks for 'tooning in!And thank you all for supporting me through 150 episodes!
In the latest episode of the Cisco AI Insights Podcast, hosts Rafael Herrera and Sónia Marques welcome Cisco AI operations engineer James Tidd for a discussion on the world of small language models (SLMs) and the evolution of efficient AI inference. Together, they unravel the complexities behind “Fast Inference from Transformers via Speculative Decoding,” a groundbreaking paper from Google that explores how smaller draft models can speed up large language model predictions while maintaining accuracy. James shares his hands-on experience experimenting with the technique, leveraging knowledge distillation and speculative execution. The trio also discusses the potential of this approach to optimize AI, reduce power consumption and costs, and help businesses of all sizes get more out of existing hardware. A special thank you to Google's AI team for developing this month's paper. Wonder of all wonders, we actually watched what we said we were going to watch, and before the Oscars too! As I mentioned on the show, my absolutely favorite reveal, despite its duck-billed alt mode, was Krannix from the Transformers '86 movie. Talk about holes being filled. For Joe, the addition of dinosaurs to the line is extremely interesting, even if it's just a momentary distraction. Masters of the Universe, of course, went off. With two different lines similar enough to be confused, at least by me, we have a ton of options. But, that Trap Jaw with an articulated jaw, am I right? Star Wars blew their load pre-Toy Fair, but being an arctic guy, let's just say, I want everything.
Send a textKnights, Nazis, submarines, and a three-headed robo-dragon walk into a Transformers sequel… and somehow the wildest ingredients still feel weightless. We dig into Transformers: The Last Knight to figure out why the VFX slap while the story slips, how the Arthurian hook gets buried under MacGuffins, and where the franchise lost the character charm that made the first film sing. We compare Shia's live-wire energy to Mark Wahlberg's steady center, debate Cogman's C-3PO-adjacent chaos, and explain why Anthony Hopkins turning exposition into mischief nearly steals the movie. From the medieval prologue to a London chase that forgets who's in which car, we track the editing choices that drain tension and the dialogue tics that mistake “joke density” for personality. The TRF heel turn, the Witwiccan lore tangle, and Optimus Prime's mind-controlled pivot to Nemesis Prime get a clear-eyed autopsy. We also spotlight what works: Bumblebee's mid-fight reassembly is kinetic and clever, the robot silhouettes are finally readable, and the sound design keeps even thin scenes feeling huge. When Bumblebee briefly regains his voice, you glimpse the beating heart this franchise can still find—if the script lets it.If you love franchise archaeology, blockbuster craft talk, and a fair share of roast with your reverence, you'll feel at home. We sketch the version that might have landed: fewer MacGuffins, real consequences, a focused treasure trail for Vivian's historian skills, and a talisman that pays off a character arc rather than a single slow-motion block. By the end, we answer the big question: underrated chaos or unwatchable noise?Enjoy the ride, then tell us your pick for the series' last truly good entry. In this engaging conversation, Ben Jorgensen from Armor For Sleep shares insights into his music career, the significance of the emo scene, and the impact of their albums on fans. The discussion covers the rivalry between music scenes, the nostalgia associated with early 2000s music, and the experiences of touring, including Warped Tour and the Emo's Not Dead cruise. Ben reflects on the support from his label, the communal experience of live performances, and their inclusion in the Transformers soundtrack. Power chords and crashing boards. Mikey, Tom, and Justin talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 20 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are diehard New York Islanders fans, but Justin (Bolts fan) likes to remind us that we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Markus Buehler, the McAfee Professor of Engineering at MIT, to explore how seemingly different systems—from proteins and music to knowledge structures and AI reasoning—share underlying patterns through hierarchy, self-organization, and scale-free networks. The conversation ranges from the limits of current AI interpolation versus true discovery (using the fire-to-fusion example), to the emergence of agent swarms and their non-linear effects, to practical questions about ontologies, knowledge graphs, and whether humans will remain necessary in the creative discovery process. Markus discusses his lab's work automating scientific discovery through AI agents that can generate hypotheses, run simulations, and even retrain themselves, while Stewart shares his own experiences building applications with AI coding agents and grapples with questions about intellectual property, material science constraints, and the future of human creativity in an AI-abundant world.Timestamps00:00 - Introduction to Marcus Buehler's work on knowledge graphs, structural grammar across proteins, music, and AI reasoning05:00 - Discussion of AI discovery versus interpolation, using fire and fusion as examples of fundamental versus incremental innovation10:00 - Language models as connective glue between agents, enabling communication despite imperfect outputs and canonical averaging15:00 - Embodiment and agency in AI systems, creating adversarial agents that challenge theories and expand world models20:00 - Emergent properties in materials and AI, comparing dislocations in metals to behaviors in agent swarms25:00 - Human role-playing and phase separation in society, parallels to composite materials and heterogeneity30:00 - Physical world challenges, atom-by-atom manufacturing at MIT.nano, limitations of lithography machines35:00 - Synthetic biology as alternative to nanotechnology, programming microorganisms for materials discovery40:00 - Intellectual property debates, commodification of AI models, control layers more valuable than model architecture45:00 - Automation of ontologies, agent self-testing, daughter's coding success at age 1150:00 - Graph theory for knowledge compression, neurosymbolic approaches combining symbolic and neural methods55:00 - Nonlinear acceleration in AI, emergence from accumulated innovations, restaurant owner embracing AI01:00:00 - Future generations possibly rejecting AI, democratization of knowledge, social media as real-time scientific discourseKey Insights1. Universal Patterns Across Disciplines: Seemingly different systems in nature—proteins, music, social networks, and knowledge itself—share fundamental structural patterns including hierarchy, self-organization, and scale-free networks. This commonality allows creative thinkers to draw insights across disciplines, applying principles from one domain to solve problems in another. As an engineer and materials scientist, Buehler has leveraged these isomorphisms to advance scientific understanding by mapping the "plumbing" of different systems onto each other, revealing hidden relationships that enable extrapolation beyond what's observable in any single domain.2. The Discovery Versus Interpolation Problem: Current AI systems, particularly large language models, excel at interpolation—recombining existing knowledge in new ways—but struggle with genuine discovery that requires fundamental rewiring of world models. Using the example of fire versus fusion, Buehler explains that an AI trained on combustion chemistry would propose bigger fires or new fuels, but couldn't conceive of fusion because that requires stepping back to more fundamental physics. True discovery demands the ability to recognize when existing theories have boundaries and to develop entirely new frameworks, something current AI architectures aren't designed to achieve due to their training objective of predicting the most likely outcome.3. The Role of Ontologies and Knowledge Graphs: While some AI researchers argue that ontologies are unnecessary because models form internal representations, Buehler advocates for explicit knowledge graphs as essential discovery tools. External ontologies provide sharp, analytical, symbolic representations that complement the fuzzy internal representations of neural networks. They enable verification of rare connections—like obscure papers that might hold key insights—which would be averaged away in standard AI training. This neurosymbolic approach combines the generalization capabilities of neural networks with the precision of formal knowledge structures, creating more powerful discovery systems.4. Emergent Properties and Agent Swarms: Just as materials science shows that collections of atoms exhibit properties impossible to predict from individual components, AI agent swarms demonstrate emergent behaviors beyond single models. When agents are incentivized not just to answer questions but to challenge each other adversarially, propose theories, and test hypotheses, they can spawn new copies of themselves and evolve understanding beyond their initial programming. This emergence isn't surprising from a materials science perspective—dislocations, grain boundaries, and other collective phenomena only appear at scale, fundamentally determining material behavior in ways unpredictable from studying just a few atoms.5. The Commoditization of Intelligence: The fundamental AI models themselves are becoming commodities, as evidenced by events like the Moldbug phenomenon where people built agents using various providers interchangeably. The real value is shifting from who has the smartest model to how models are orchestrated, integrated, and deployed. This parallels historical technology adoption patterns—just as we moved past debating who makes the best electricity to focusing on applications, AI is transitioning from a horse race over model capabilities to questions of infrastructure, energy, access speed, and agent coordination at the systems level.6. Human-AI Collaboration and Creative Control: Rather than wholesale replacement, AI enables humans to operate in an intensely creative space as orchestrators sampling from vast possibility spaces. Similar to how Buehler's 11-year-old daughter now builds sophisticated applications that would have required professional developers years ago, AI democratizes access to capabilities while humans retain the creative judgment about direction and meaning. The human role becomes curating emergence, finding rare connections, playing at the edges of knowledge, and exercising the kind of curiosity-driven exploration that AI systems lack without embodied stakes in their own survival and continuation.7. Technology as Evolutionary Inevitability: The development of AI represents not an unnatural threat but the next stage of human evolution—an extension of our innate drive to build models of ourselves and our world. From cave paintings to partial differential equations to artificial intelligence, humans continuously create increasingly sophisticated representations and tools. Attempting to stop this technological evolution is futile; instead, the focus should be on steering it ...

Let it never be said that Triple Takeover doesn't enjoy a bit of beast. Having already done deep dives into the classic Kenner line and Takara's Beast Wars II, we're back for more — and this is where things get really weird, with 1999's Beast Wars Neo. Tonight it's all about the Maximals: a crew of twelve toys that run the gamut from intriguing repaints and retools to flat-out Japanese exclusive oddities. Sixo guides Liam and Jason through the roster one figure at a time, discovering some of the more noteworthy alternate modes from the entire Beast era — not to mention the somewhat inexplicable third modes on offer. With giraffes, penguins, horses, rabbits, sharks, and of course the line's notorious tanuki, Beast Wars Neo showcases the sheer creativity (and occasional bewilderment) of late-90s Takara design philosophy. The discussion leans towards the absurd at times — that was somewhat inevitable given the subject matter — but there's genuine reverence for what is, at the end of the day, a fabulous set of classic Transformers toys. Big swings, plenty of fun, and a roster that wasn't afraid to do something different. Fair warning: this episode gets weird. But that's exactly why our Beast Wars discussions always end up being some of the most entertaining episodes we record. Malcolm Copeland, Air Force Veteran, in Episode 235 of the Transition Drill Podcast, his story addresses a reality most veterans face. The military gives you structure, identity, and momentum, but it doesn't guarantee relevance once you leave. His transition wasn't about replacing one job with another. It was about reclaiming control and creating his own structure instead of relying on someone else's. His story is a reminder that transition isn't a single event at separation. It's a shift in ownership.Malcolm isn't just an Air Force veteran; he's a master of transition who's navigated the high-stakes world of elite military units and the complex landscape of civilian entrepreneurship. In this episode dive deep into his journey from a curious kid in Long Island to a crew chief for the a famous jet in Hollywood history.Malcolm grew up in West Islip, New York, where he spent his days taking apart electronics just to see how they worked. That engineering mindset was his gift, but his life hit a major crossroads when he lost his father at just 13 years old. This unexpected loss pushed him to grow up fast and find a path that offered adventure and independence, so he enlisted in the Air Force at 17. He didn't just fix planes, he became an elite technician. From working on the block forties in South Korea to maintaining the CV-22 Ospreys that appeared in the first Transformers movie, Malcolm lived the high-tempo life of military maintenance. His career reached a pinnacle when he joined the Thunderbirds. In that world, precision isn't just a goal, it's a requirement. He learned that teamwork and structure can make the impossible happen, like swapping an F-16 engine in half the standard time to ensure a show never gets canceled. But Malcolm's story doesn't end on the flight line. After 14 years of service, he took a unique risk by appearing on the first season of Married at First Sight. While the show wasn't a match, his honesty on screen led him to his soulmate; she was from Germany. He moved overseas, mastered the challenges of a blended family of eventually six children, and finished his engineering degree and MBA.Today, back in the United States with his family, Malcolm's focused on the future of veteran entrepreneurship. He's the founder of Eighth Ascent, where he helps veterans launch business ideas in just 28 days. He's also a leading voice on how AI and automation will impact the workforce. He's helping veterans build businesses that are future-proof, ensuring they keep the purpose and passion they had in uniform. Malcolm's life proves that with the right azimuth, you can navigate any transition and build a legacy that lasts.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paulpantani/WEBSITE: https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulpantani/SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:https://transitiondrillpodcast.com/home#aboutQUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:paul@transitiondrillpodcast.comEPISODE BLOG PAGE AND CONNECT WITH MALCOLM:https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.com/post/air-force-veteran-malcolm-copeland-on-thunderbirds-and-military-transition-drill-podcastSPONSORS:GRND CollectiveGet 15% off your purchaseLink: https://thegrndcollective.com/Promo Code: TRANSITION15Blue Line RoastingGet 10% off your purchaseLink: https://bluelineroasting.comPromocode: Transition10Frontline OpticsGet 10% off your purchaseLink: https://frontlineoptics.comPromocode: Transition10

This week on Radio Free Cybertron, the crew reacts to Hasbro's latest LinkedIn flex, revealing Transformers as the company's most engaged global brand—beating out Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. We chat about Hasbro's strong earnings report, what it means for the brand, and how it compares to Mattel's rough quarter. On the toy front, we preview the upcoming T-Spark livestream featuring Missing Link Animation Grimlock, speculate on whatever US250 Star Eagle is, and examine new Yolopark reveals.
This week we're talking about the fine art of delving into comic long boxes, finding forgotten gems, flipping books and then chronicling the odd, wild ride of it all - and who better than the creator of 'Grixly', the one and only Nate McDonough! From filling backpacks to using a spare room for stock and also the great journey in his own slice of life comics, its a fascinating discussion into another side of comics not talked about too often. All that and talk of bootleg comics, Transformers, Marvel UK and saucy comics with little to no substance. Thats right listeners, expect another corker of an episode again! Great stuff to check out: Nate McDonough, Grixly Comics, Long Boxes, 2001, The Eternals, Copacetic Comics, American Nature, The Santos Sisters, Adam Falp, Smoking Bedrooms, The Mary Boys: All Stitched Up, Legacy: Idols and Bones, Britformers, Proper Comics, Blood and Thunder, The Cosplayer that Doomed the Earth, Dan Harris, Adventures of Tintin: Breaking Free, Nerve

Send a textA rye cube, a lemon twist, and a splash of absinthe set the night in motion. We open with the Sazerac, swapping notes between Boatwright's at Port Orleans and our own New Orleans–style build, then take that same love of craft into a wild thought experiment: which non‑Disney characters and worlds would thrive under Disney's storytelling? We start with the legends. Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes spark a debate about timeless comedy, park characters, and the kind of physical gags that make queues feel alive. From there, we slide into Scooby‑Doo hijinks, SpongeBob's Bikini Bottom, and Bedrock's bronto‑size charm—proof that retro IP can still deliver modern magic. Gaming and anime icons raise the stakes: Mario's jump‑happy momentum, Pikachu's collect‑and‑trade culture, Sonic's speed run energy, and Hello Kitty's soft‑power merch. Each brings interactivity, replay value, and social fun that match how guests actually play parks today. We push beyond cartoons into cinematic sandboxes. Imagine a mid‑century Mad Men lounge with proper cocktails and impeccable woodwork. Picture Ghostbusters as a show‑driven effects playground, a Die Hard‑inspired tower drop with narrative beats, and a Jurassic World zone that sells scale without screen fatigue. Then we go epic: Middle‑earth as a multi‑land dream with the Shire's warmth, Rivendell's serenity, and Mordor's percussion and heat; Wizard of Oz for technicolor wonder and storm‑tossed transitions; Willy Wonka for edible illusions, fizzy‑lifting laughs, and music that hums through the pathways. Along the way we weigh Transformers, King Kong's Monarch universe, Hunger Games, Smurfs, Popeye, Garfield, Jetsons, and G.I. Joe—asking where Disney's “story per minute” advantage can turn good IP into unforgettable place. It's part cocktail hour, part imagineering session, and all heart for the details that make parks sing: scent, light, texture, music, and a wink of humor. Tap play, then tell us your top three non‑Disney IPs you'd hand to Disney and why. If you're vibing with the show, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a quick review—it helps more Disney lovers find our little corner of magic. Cheers!

Transformers are robots in DECLINE. Transformers sales are down per Hasbro's earnings report, and even Transformers sites are asking why. Expense? Lack of good moves and series? Ideology? It only took us a year this time (year and a half, tops) but we finally watched Transformers One. And you know what? We have no excuses for why it took us this long, especially since it’s so freaking good. Spoiler warnings ahead, though we’re not spoiling the plot so much as fangirling over everything... Mike, Tony and Derek get together to discuss IDW's Transformers Valentine's Day Special for #RomanceComicsMonth!
In the mid-80s, the people who brought us cartoons like G.I. Joe and Transformers asked themselves an important question: Why don't we try selling toys to girls? And sell they did via the magic of Jem: a truly outrageous animated series about a glam-rocking girl group at odds with their bitter rivals, The Misfits. While the series burned fast and bright—and failed to make waves with a revival 30 years later—Jem lives on in our hearts as one of the most delightfully '80s creations ever made (that also happens to be anime). This month, bust out the mascara and fright wigs and get ready to take a trip to the totally radical Reagan era as we look at one of this series' most twisted episodes. This week on Radio Free Cybertron, the crew breaks down Hasbro landing the Voltron movie toy license and what that could mean for both Hasbro and Voltron going forward. On the Transformers side, we dig into the new Nexus Prime, its plug-in combiner gimmick, and whether it's a weird half-step forward or a faceplant in the snow. There's plenty more toy talk too, including Dramatic Capture Decepticons, Studio Series 86, Takara's upcoming Overgear line, third-party upgrades, and, of course, what we got this week!
