In 1978 & 1979 Salt Lake City Utah, two gay men and one lesbian would be murdered over a few months time. It appears none of the cases are related. None of the cases have been solved either. During this time LGBTQ people were not a priority to really anyone in this state, especially law enforcement. Could these cases have been solved, I believe they could have been had some effort been put in by detectives assigned to the cases. Cases are Doug Coleman, Anthony Adams and Mona Lee "Heather" Ulibarri. Our True Crime Quickie comes to us from Nudieland in Minnesota!https://www.truecrimefestnorthwest.com/Rainbow Crimes | creating podcast episodes | Patreon"Darkcast Network, the best in Indie Podcasts... Had a great conversation with our special guest Doug Coleman
Doug Coleman had just returned home after staying up for more than 24 hours. He was exhausted. He’d evacuated as the Cold Springs Fire came closer to his property. Flames quickly fanned across north-central Washington’s Okanogan County over Labor Day weekend. He found his house – just outside of Okanogan – still standing. Little did he know, it was just the first time he would have to evacuate during this one fire. Doug called his daughter Heather, who lives about two hours away in Wenatchee, and went to sleep. “I said, ‘Well, hey. Go get some rest. I’ll just keep watching should the winds change and the fires head back your way,” Heather says. Running on no sleep herself, Heather decided to check Facebook just as her workday started to get busy. She’s a member of the Okanogan Highlands Fire Watch group . “Living in Wenatchee, I didn’t have any real-time access to any other means of communication on such short-time notice,” Heather says. That’s how she first found out her father’s home

Doug Coleman, the organizer of TEDxJacksonville, is humble and unassuming, which belies his event's impact on the city. He's retired now, but hardly hanging around at the beach. Instead, he's busy producing a Level 2 main event, Salons, TEDxLIVE, TEDxChange and TEDxWomen events. He was inspired by early TEDx events he attended because they were collaborative and optimistic. He and his team of 25, produce 8 or 9 events a year. Doug talks a lot about the team. It's in his hack, and it's in a lot of this episode. He says his superpower is about collaboration, and really, it's his skill in finding the right people to serve on the team. Towards the end of the episode, he talks about IKIGAI, which is a Japanese philosophy about the reason for being. It's a guiding principle for him and how he selects people to join TEDxJacksonville. Doug does something very interesting at his event. They have a voting system, and one of the questions is, "Which speaker's talk should we shoe to the Mayor and City Council" He's committed to having TEDxJacksonville be a positive impact on the Community.
