"If You Don't Own Land, You Don't Own Power." Ownership is the key to generational wealth, but in Detroit, that power is constantly under attack. From over-assessed property taxes to deed fraud and predatory real estate schemes, Black Detroiters are losing land—and with it, the foundation of community stability and wealth-building. In this powerful discussion, Anthony Adams, a legal and political mind with deep experience in city government, breaks down the policies, politics, and legal maneuvers that determine who truly owns Detroit. From the impact of the Land Bank and Community Benefits Agreements to the controversial shifts in Detroit's tax structure, Adams lays out the real game being played with our neighborhoods. Host Khary Frazier challenges Adams to make sense of how we fight back—whether through land trusts, cooperative economics, or radical restructuring of city policies. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone who cares about Detroit's future and their own financial empowerment. Don't get caught on the wrong side of the deal—tune in and learn how to protect what's yours. In 1978 & 1979 Salt Lake City Utah, two gay men and one lesbian would be murdered over a few months time. It appears none of the cases are related. None of the cases have been solved either. During this time LGBTQ people were not a priority to really anyone in this state, especially law enforcement. Could these cases have been solved, I believe they could have been had some effort been put in by detectives assigned to the cases. Cases are Doug Coleman, Anthony Adams and Mona Lee "Heather" Ulibarri. Our True Crime Quickie comes to us from Nudieland in Minnesota!https://www.truecrimefestnorthwest.com/Rainbow Crimes | creating podcast episodes | Patreon"Darkcast Network, the best in Indie Podcasts... In this episode of "The History of Eye Care," host Dr. Morgan Micheletti sits down with Dr. Robert Maloney, a trailblazer in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Maloney begins by discussing the early career choices that led him to specialize in eye care. He recounts a transformative experience in the Marshall Islands, where he and Dr. Anthony Adams trained a local surgeon, Dr. Philippe Pasteur, in cataract surgery. This training had a profound impact, essentially eradicating cataract blindness in the entire nation within a few years. Dr. Maloney provides detailed insights into the early days of LASIK surgery, discussing his involvement in the original FDA trials. He describes the intricacies of his first LASIK case, highlighting the challenges and complexities of pioneering a new surgical technique. His work on LASIK safety protocols has been instrumental in its widespread adoption. A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to Dr. Maloney's mentorship under Dr. George Waring III. Dr. Waring was not just an academic influence; he instilled in Dr. Maloney a love for research and a commitment to advancing the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Maloney credits Dr. Waring with reigniting his passion for academics, which continued to flourish even after he transitioned out of the university setting. Dr. Maloney also talks about his international experiences, including a trip to Russia where he met with Dr. Fyodorov, a pioneer in radial keratotomy. His time in Crete was spent collaborating with Dr. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK. These international journeys were focused on learning advanced refractive surgeries to bring back and implement in the United States. Ethical considerations also find a place in the conversation. Dr. Maloney discusses how his ethical compass has been shaped by Charlie Munger of Berkshire Hathaway, emphasizing the importance of doing what's right before considering the financial implications. Dr. Maloney identifies his most significant contribution to ophthalmology as his extensive research on the safety and complications of laser refractive surgery. His publications have set the standard for safe practices, benefiting both patients and practitioners alike.

On this edition of "The Week That Was" Guest host Nancy Derringer and Allan Lengel talk to the panel to discuss the big stories of the week. On this week's agenda: James Craig's official entrance into the race to be Michigan's next Governor; Mayor Duggan says he won't debate his challenger Anthony Adams before the November election; California votes no on recalling Governor Gavin Newsom, and much more. As always, the panelists have their nominees for "Schmuck Of The Week." Guests this week include Focus:Hope CEO Portia Roberson, Wayne State Senior Lecturer Saeed Khan, and longtime political consultant and 910 AM radio host Adolph Mongo.
Colter Nuanez, broadcasting from Bozeman, is joined by Missoula Sentinel alum and current Montana State defensive lineman Byron Rollins. Later, Portland State stars Davis Alexander and Anthony Adams join the show.
Craig's guest is Eli Newman, who covers city government and politics for WDET, Detroit Public Radio. They discuss the results of Tuesday's primary election, which had few surprises, but was significant for a number of reasons. Mayor Mike Duggan coasted to a first place finish, leaving second place finisher Anthony Adams with a big hill to climb if he is to unseat Duggan. Proposal P, the charter revision question, lost handily. Also, two races for Detroit City Council, the at large race, and the race for District 4 look to be hotly contested in November.
In this hour Stephen Henderson speaks with Detroit Mayoral candidates Tom Barrow and Anthony Adams. Plus, Beverly Kindle-Walker who is running for Detroit City Clerk joins the program.

In today's local (to me) case, we will sift through the unsolved 1970s murder of Anthony Adams. Anthony Adams had three strikes against him: He was black. He was gay and he was an active member of the socialist party. This makes finding the true motive behind his murder extremely difficult. Was it a hate crime against a homosexual man? Was it racially motivated? Was it politically motivated? Was a crime of passion or opportunity? Listen and let me know what you think! On today's show, we cover a few things to know around town. 00:34 There's a pandemic update, including vaccination rates in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. 01:33 A number of well-known Detroit restaurants were cited for allowing indoor dining by the city. 02:00 238 Black Lives Matter protestors had their charges dropped, but the Detroit City Council also authorized $200,000 to fund lawyers for a countersuit against Detroit Will Breathe, who organized the protests. 02:49 There's a new candidate in the race for mayor of Detroit, Anthony Adams. For voter information purposes, here is his campaign website: https://anthonyadamsformayor.com/ 03:48 Remember Melissa Carone? She made national news by testifying next to Rudy Giuliani sharing baseless accusations of mass election fraud in the city of Detroit. Well, she announced she's running for the Michigan State House in 2022 in the 46th district as a Republican. That's in northern Oakland County. However, as a note - districts are being redrawn by a non-partisan commission and we'll know who is in what districts in November. 05:28 Our feature conversation is with Brian Allnutt of Planet Detroit. January 11, 2021 — Last Monday, Public Health, Adventist Health Ukiah Valley, and the City of Ukiah administered 830 doses of the Moderna vaccine that were at risk of losing viability after a freezer failure at the hospital. They did it in about two hours, and had to turn people away. Not everybody who wanted one got it, but sometimes it helps to make a little bit of noise, as Anthony Adams, a lawyer in the public defenders office found after he called in to the board of supervisors meeting the following day to complain about being overlooked. We followed up with Adams on Friday. He wanted to be clear that he’s only representing his own personal perspective in the following interview. He’s been vaccinated since Monday, but he’s still concerned about how courthouse working conditions make it hard to keep socially distant. For example, it’s impossible to have a confidential conversation with clients during an open court proceeding without leaning in close to whisper advice. Under ordinary circumstances, Adams also confers with incarcerated clients, which is much more difficult now with covid and the outbreak at the jail. He thinks the jail is doing everything it can to reasonably accommodate the need for legal representation, with a video conferencing system and a couple of rooms in the lobby, where he can meet with clients in person through plexiglass. Still, the public health emergency is making it really hard to make sure untried people can enjoy their constitutional rights and the presumption of innocence.
Anthony “Spice” Adams played defensive tackle for nine seasons in the NFL, but many of his fans don’t know or believe that he was a professional football player. That’s because, in retirement, he reinvented himself as a comedic entertainer on social media and television and has enjoyed equal, if not greater, success and fame than he did on the gridiron. On this episode of “Getcha Popcorn Ready,” Spice joins T.O. and Hatch to talk about the reality of being teammates with T.O. on the 49ers, being forced to play football in high school, how he got a scholarship to play for Penn State while a high school sophomore, the surprising conversations he had with legendary PSU head coach Joe Paterno, the meeting with Michael Strahan that planted a seed for his entertainment career, his career goals, and much more. Plus, there’s plenty of topless action that you do not want to miss — even in audio form!Follow us on social media!IG: @getchapopcastTW: @getchapopcastFB: Getcha Popcorn Ready PodcastProduced in Association with Workhouse Media
It's finally here—game week 2020. Like James Franklin, this episode is all about Indiana, Indiana, Indiana, Indiana! Tom and Andy start with a few final preseason updates, looking at roster changes and late-breaking player news. Then they take a look at Indiana and what sort of game they expect to see from their first opponent of the season. They end with their game and season predictions, if only Tom will let Andy sign off! From the show: First things first: just after we finished recording, it was reported that Journey Brown may be unavailable for the entire 2020 season due to an undisclosed medical issue. Soul food, entrepreneurship and community unity is a family endeavor for twin brothers, Anthony and Antwan Adams. Their desire to create something different and authentic was the catalyst that started 42 Fry. The restaurant boasts a robust soul food and seafood menu consisting of their signature fish, chicken and shrimp recipes, paired with southern favorites like baked beans, sweet potatoes, cole slaw, collard greens and, a crowd pleaser, fire roasted corn-on-the-cob. Everything is made to order, and other options are available for patrons who are not seafood fans. Antwan shares that a customer favorite on the menu is the dinner platter combo, because it offers the most amount of food at a reasonable price. Opened in February 2019 at 815 West Gate City Blvd, the owners of 42 Fry want to be known as the best seafood restaurant in the Triad. They note one of their greatest accomplishments includes opening day and seeing people continue to return. Now, they have two locations, one in Greensboro, and a second one in Greenville, NC. The name 42 Fry came to them after a prayer session in the early morning hours. The name signifies creating a place where people can gather, unite and be able to talk about anything. With a combination of seeking God's help and having a concept that people will love not just now but also in the future, are what the twins say guides them in their business. “It's been a learning process. But through prayer and faith, we have made it through those difficult times,” says Antwan. The 42 Fry family is all about empowering people to build their own, by combining knowledge with work ethic. They both share they are appreciative of the people around them that could advise them on the ‘dos and don'ts' of the food service industry. They say having perseverance was crucial for them in learning how to deal with vendors, how to purchase employee uniforms, electronics, machines, and furniture. Born and raised in Greenville, NC, the brothers say their love of soul food and seafood is tied to fond memories of family and food. Both attended and graduated from East Carolina University and played for the college's football team. “Greensboro is home to me now. And my wish is for everyone to experience 42 Fry,” says Antwan. “It's like a family cookout every day at 42 Fry.” “We're trying to build a sustainable business. We're working to make a difference and a positive community impact, while providing excellent customer service. If we do those things, I think everything will take care of itself,” says Antwan. To learn more about 42 Fry, please visit their website at www.42-Fry.com. You may also visit either of their locations in Greensboro, NC or Greenville, NC. He staged four record-breaking runs, first at Ruskin Group Theatre in Santa Monica where it ran for 6 months, then the La Jolla Playhouse, where it broke all attendance records for a non-musical in their 35-year history, with 3-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff directing. In 2017, in collaboration with composer Anthony Adams, Rex turned his attention to the musical version of Sideways. Two years later the Book for the musical is finished, half the songs are composed and recorded, and a 3-time Tony Award-winning musical theater director (to be announced soon) has come on board. There is every likelihood that the “workshop” (or premiere) production will happen in the latter part of 2020. Rex grew up in southern California, matriculated from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). He was a Special Projects major, specializing in literary and film criticism, and creative writing. A member of the Writers Guild of America, the Dramatists Guild, and now ASCAP, Rex has enjoyed success in long-form fiction, screenwriting, independent film, and now stage. The Rex Pickett Papers are now enshrined at his alma mater UCSD in Geisel Library’s Special Collections & Archives. Anthony Adams was ahead of his time in the late 70s in Salt Lake City. Being a gay, African American socialist in the community was not easy, but he thrived being a voice and bringing awareness to the causes he was passionate about. When Anthony failed to show up for a protest he was expected to attend, his boyfriend went to his home, finding him brutally murdered. Who would want Anthony dead and why? Was it a crime of passion? A political assassination? Or a robbery gone wrong? https://www.sltrib.com/news/2018/10/14/murder-anthony-adams/ https://www.newspapers.com/image/430031954/?terms=anthony%2Badams https://www.newspapers.com/image/612659852/?terms=Robert%2BWaldrop https://www.newspapers.com/image/612656006/?terms=tony%2Badams https://www.newspapers.com/image/612660055/?terms=tony%2Badams

Michael is doggedly curious about the lives of others, and is passionate about reaching new audiences craving deeply-reported, long-form storytelling captured with cinematic style. Since joining ABC10, he has brought his viewers on journeys to places like Afghanistan, the US/Mexico border, Puerto Rico, and into California’s deadliest wildfires, telling the stories of those threatened by war, natural disaster, political repression, and gang violence. His ability to produce, report on-camera, shoot cinema-quality visuals, write, and edit his documentaries have allowed him to work using a small footprint and gain exclusive access to subjects who may have otherwise turned away bigger crews. In 2019, Michael won four Emmy Awards, including outstanding achievement in the documentary category for his film, “Afghanistan: What is Winning?”, which he solely produced, filmed, and edited. The documentary examined how, after 17 years of war, President Donald Trump’s South Asia strategy was playing out on the ground, the impact the war has had on both Afghan civilians and Americans back home, and the future of U.S. involvement in the country. In 2018, he won three Emmys, including outstanding achievement in video journalism; as directory of photography for the documentary “Puerto Rico Rises”; and as a reporter in the ABC10 special “Embedded: Northern California Wildfires”. “Puerto Rico Rises” also won the Walter Cronkite Award for Enterprise storytelling. Michael was also part of a team of four reporters awarded a Regional Edward R. Murrow for their coverage of California’s wildfires in 2017. Before joining ABC10, Michael worked as a multimedia breaking news reporter for The Indianapolis Star from 2013-2016. Using innovative digital reporting techniques, he elevated the paper to the number one source of breaking crime news in the city. To accompany many of his stories, he produced breaking news videos and short documentaries for the paper's digital audience, one of which screened at the Indiana Black Expo Film Festival in 2016. He also used his role as a breaking news reporter to launch several long-form projects, including an examination of the police department’s crisis intervention team, the state’s response to the Syrian refugee crisis, and an investigation into the treatment of female prisoners suffering from mental health issues. Michael has also frequently produced, shot, and edited video packages for AJ+, Al Jazeera’s digital news vertical. Additional print, photo and video work have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Atlantic, Reuters, The Weather Channel, Chicago Social Magazine, Denver’s Westword, The Lexington Herald-Leader, The Louisville Courier-Journal, Newcity and more. Michael was born in Detroit, MI, and raised in its suburbs. After a short stint in Los Angeles nursing an unsuccessful acting career, he moved to Boston and received his bachelor's degree in print and multimedia journalism from Emerson College. When he’s not writing or behind the camera for work, he’s often traveling the world with his fiancé, albeit still behind the camera. You can follow Michael at @MichaelAnthonyAdams. Over the last 40 years, the brutal murder of Anthony Adams has been described as a hate crime, a political assassination and a robbery gone bad. But one thing it has never been described as, is “solved.” The cold case is one of many being re-examined by the Salt Lake City Police Department. And Adams’ murder is notable not only for its enduring mystery, but also for the evidence that has allegedly gone missing as the city has spent decades trying, and failing, to find his killer. On this week’s episode of “Trib Talk,” Eric Peterson, founder and director of The Utah Investigative Journalism Project, joins Tribune reporter Benjamin Wood to discus the ongoing investigation into Adams' death. The case includes old history, new leads and a breakdown in evidence handling before and after the creation of a state crime lab. “Trib Talk” is produced by Sara Weber with additional editing by Dan Harrie. Comments and feedback can be sent to tribtalk@sltrib.com, or to @bjaminwood or @tribtalk on Twitter.
