The history of circuses starts with them taking place at actual established buildings and arenas. This obviously could not last, because who in their right mind would want to see one more than once? Thus, they adopted the nomadic presentation of traveling performers. This was better for the circus, because there were always new rubes to con into buying tickets, and it was better for the towns, too, because now the circus is gone. It was win-win.
We're taking a brief respite from American films on WE DO OUR OWN STUNTS to return to Hong Kong (and Japan!) for the sequel to the wildly popular WINNERS & SINNERS, it's the even MORE wildly popular MY LUCKY STARS from 1986! Starring the 5 Lucky Stars (minus John Shum, but with extra bonus Eric Tsang), it's bookended with some wild Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao action sequences and the meaty center is full of silly comedy - and lots of uncomfortable stuff because of course there is. How does it stack up to the first film, and exactly how much Jackie do we get in this one? LISTEN AND FIND OUT! The post Episode 277 – We Do Our Own Stunts – My Lucky Stars (1985) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

Tom Cruise sprints, dives, and motorcycle-launches his way through Part Two of what might be the world's most polite apocalypse, courtesy of an AI villain with a vague name and even vaguer motives. Cameron Talbott is getting his first pro skate this week. What's crazy is that Cam is 37 years old, and while he was a sponsored am for a long time, he didn't achieve pro status until he was 25. While that's impressive, what's even more impressive are the hammers and creativity that define his skating. Not too bad for a kid who came up with nothing in Missoula, Montana. On the podcast, we talk about growing up with less, his badass mom, finding community in skating, SF, Valo, and so much more. Whether it's Tom Cruise risking his neck underwater, or above ground while clinging to the wing of a biplane, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is filled with stunts that might just turn your hair white. That's if you don't lose it completely. That's just one of the side effects discussed in this Empire Podcast interview special, as the film's second unit director and stunt co-ordinator, the wonderful Wade Eastwood, sits down on Zoom with Chris Hewitt, and tells us how he, Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie and their team pulled off some of the greatest stunts ever committed to celluloid. This is not a spoiler special, folks, but if you haven't seen the film, maybe best to give this one a swerve and come back when you have. For everyone else, enjoy.

Kenna schools on boundaries, speaking your truth, and self-care. Plus, she smashes myths about adult performers' hygiene and health — spoiler: way off base. Wanna hear it all?

It wasn't long ago when summer was a time for nonstop action, everything from "Speed" to "Die Hard." There are still plenty of action movies like the next "Mission: Impossible" film along with a new installment in the "Jurassic Park" franchise, but many of the annual entries are tied to comic books and other longstanding franchises. What about new entries into the field? In this episode we talk with Katee Sackhoff, who stars in the new action movie "Fight or Flight," as well as the film's director James Madigan. Sackhoff is no stranger to the action genre, having been involved with several "Star Wars" programs from Disney+. And with action movies, come big stunts. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced that a new Oscar category will be introduced for the 100th Academy Awards: Achievement in Stunt Design. We talk about what that means and whether mainstream actors like Tom Cruise could find a new pathway to an Oscar. About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is now the editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios kickoffs of the summer blockbuster season in just 2 weeks with the release of Thunderbolts* on May 2. With tickets now on sale, box office tracking and projections ahead of the film's release are forecasting a solid, if not somewhat soft, opening weekend; with most estimates landing between $63 to $77 million. While that is on the lower side for an MCU movie, optimists believe the general lower level of familiarity with the characters on the roster, combined with the positive test screenings, could give the film significant potential and room to grow in subsequent weeks via word of mouth. Elsewhere, Captain America actor Anthony Mackie offered some insights on Avengers: Doomsday while promoting Twisted Metal Season 2 for Peacock, saying, “It's going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the introduction of a new Oscar category for Achievement in Stunt Design, set to debut at the 100th Academy Awards in 2028, honoring films released in 2027. This decision follows years of advocacy from industry professionals, including director and former stuntman David Leitch and stunt coordinator Chris O'Hara, who was notably credited as the first official "stunt designer" for his work on The Fall Guy. While the specific criteria and presentation details are yet to be finalized, this move is seen as a significant step toward recognizing the creative and technical artistry of stunt professionals in filmmaking. However, there is notable disappointment that earlier works, such as Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible series, will not be eligible for this new recognition.HBO has officially announced the adult cast for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, confirming several roles and actors we've discussed, along with new additions. In an interview with Deadline, Warner Bros' Mike De Luca and Pam Abby confirmed that the studio is moving forward with sequels to A Minecraft Movie and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This weekend, A Minecraft Movie crossed a half a billion dollars at the global box office.A24 has released the first trailer for Ari Aster's Eddington, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone.
