DeSantis' latest out-of-state appearance came in Salt Lake City Utah in which he railed against CDC recommendations on COVID-19. "Did you not get the CDC's memo?" he laughed. "I didn't see any of you guys complying." The governor got big laughs from the conservative audience regarding the CDC's renewed recommendation to wear masks. He also made fun of the CDC's new recommendation that masks be worn in schools. A Florida county school board voted on Wednesday to require students, staff and visitors to wear masks inside its schools, directly conflicting with Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R) stance that schools should not impose mask mandates. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He also spent some time in Atlanta and now is at the Dwolla headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.   Dwolla was originally a P2P product but about 5 years ago started to focus on B2B payments. Today they provide ACH transaction processing through an API to businesses and also power functionality for many other Fintechs. They recently launched real-time payments and are looking into things like FX and crytpo.   This year they are trending towards $40B in gross payment volume with approximately 100 employees.    Brady has a passion for giving people the opportunity to grow and flourish in their careers. He also thinks people coming into payments or fintech should start with a sales job which Brady says a sometimes controversial viewpoint.

Keeping everyone safe in 2020 yielded a new scare system concept at Dead City Haunted House in Salt Lake City Utah that was so effective, it will continue to be used long after the pandemic subsides. Owner Timothy Riggs conceived and engineered a new system for actors to operate props safely from a distance while above patrons. Nicknamed "The Puppeteers", each of these actors operated dozens of unique scares from a single bridge out of sight. The puppets movements were very startlingly scary and also a very cost-efficient use of actor staffing. Design methods are not expensive or complex and can be fabricated with the skill set of the average haunter. On the Did you know Segment… Sunni and Lisa are recognizing and celebrating Black|African American History Month by sharing stories of inventors of everyday items!  On this episode it's the light bulb! Yup!  According to history.com  - The light bulb itself was invented by Thomas Edison, but the innovation used to create longer-lasting light bulbs with a carbon filament came from African American inventor Lewis Latimer. Latimer, the son of formerly enslaved people, began work in a patent law firm after serving in the military for the Union during the Civil War.Mr. Latimer's successes would garner him further attention from the the U.S. Electric Lighting Company, putting him at a company in direct competition with Edison, in 1880. While there, Latimer patented a new filament for the light bulb, using carbon instead of more incendiary materials, like bamboo, that were commonly used for filaments. The addition of the carbon filament increased the life span and practicality of light bulbs, which had previously died after just a few days. In 1884, he went on to work with Edison at the Edison Electric Light Company. Who knew?! On this episode of Active Allyship…it's more than a #hashtag! Sunni and Lisa discover the ABC's of Black History with author Rio Cortez.  Ms. Rio is multi-talented artist, she's a writer, poet and is Pushcart Prize - nominated.  She has appeared in Mother magazine, The Miami Rail, The Los Angeles Review, and many other publications.Sunni asks Ms. Rio what she was marinated in… she the uniqueness of her experience growing up in Salt Lake City Utah.  Her family was the first founding black family in the state of Utah after the reconstruction - a very unique experience indeed. You have got to get this book for your kids (honestly, it's for adults too)!  What an amazing tribute to the history and contributions of African Americans!  This book illuminates the global Black experience. Sunni could hardly contain herself, reading aloud, secretly wishing she had a room full of young kids to read to!  Lisa's daughter was mesmerized by the book, opting for it over television!  O wait, the illustrations, the spectrum of Blackness… phenomenal!  You've got to see it!  And the story of how Ms. Rio met the illustrator Ms. Lauren Semmer… uncanny!  People and topics are covered from A-Z, seriously.  You've gotta listen…no more clues! If you aren't already, please follow us on IG|Twitter @activeallyship.podcast! How to Talk to Your Kids About Porn With children being exposed to porn as early as 10 today, Braxton, teaches us how to deal with pornography and kids. He defines porn as content that is intentionally created for a sexual purpose like arousal. For many parents, the task may seem daunting and confusing to broach. In this episode, Braxton takes us by the hand and explains exactly what we need to do to raise healthy, aware and responsible children. His advice is to start by knowing your own parameters and values. The journey starts as early as the infant stage where we are encouraged to use the correct terms for body parts. With many kids having access to electronic devices, Braxton expresses how important it is to create a system for your child to respond correctly to unexpected, inappropriate material. He suggests explaining to your kids as young as 6, that if they do come across any naked people on their screens, to call you instead of getting curious and clicking on it. The C’s Talking to your child openly and ensuring that your child knows that they will not get into trouble, helps them approach you therefore Braxton encourages communication. Curiosity comes up as a common thread with children, and we are encouraged to teach them how to respond to that. Braxton explains the three C’s about why your child may look at pornography: – Clicking (accidental) – Curiosity – Coping As parents, he suggests we respond with these three C’s and explains these in more detail: – Stay Curious – Stay Connected – Stay Calm Teens Dealing with teens requires a specific approach, as many parents may already have discovered. We learn that approaching teens openly and explaining your rationale to them in line with your values as opposed to dictating to them, works best. While teens are in an exploratory phase, parents may encounter teens using porn for masturbation. Braxton gives us a helpful way to gently correct this while ensuring your teen can still explore their sexual impulses. Being responsible and not shaming your kids when they enter this phase of their lives is key to keeping an open line of communication and being there to help them into adulthood. Background Braxton Duston , LCSW, CST is the Clinical Director at The Healing Group in Salt Lake City Utah. He is also host of the Birds and Bees Podcast. The population of Nauvoo, Illinois is just over 1,000. So why are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as Mormons) so aware of and slightly obsessed with Nauvoo? Nauvoo is an important part of the history of the Church of Jesus Christ. Shortly after the Church was organized, persecutions against the Church were rampant. Latter-day Saints (members of the Church) were forced out of their homes and ended up settling in Nauvoo. Nauvoo is where many important revelations occurred during the time of continued persecution. Eventually the saints were forced to flee once again and ended up settling in the western United States (with the Church headquartered in what is now Salt Lake City Utah). Download a Free Investor Toolkit -->https://www.apartmentinvestingjourney.com/free-tool-kitAbout Our Guest:Born & raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, I'm 26 years old and have been full time in real estate since the end of 2017. My dad always told me the best way to find out what you want to be, is what you don't want to be- I took that to heart and throughout High school, doing several different trade jobs including highway construction, general renovation work, and ran a landscaping company in Park City, UT for 4 years. I always knew there was a better way to do things & wanted to be self-employed for as long as I can remember, Like many, that small purple book (Rich Dad, Poor Dad), helped me shift my thinking and take the leap to get into real estate, knowing absolutely nobody in the industry. I did what most do, and got my residential real estate license, after a couple of months I knew I better find a kick-ass mentor or I would just become another failure statistic, I joined Mike Egan's team at KW SLC, Mike has been a top producer for over 10 years and sharing an office with him and riding his coattails for the better part of a year truly fast-tracked my success as an agent. Although I was always much more interested in investing, I knew I would have to have some capital to make that dream a reality, & the best way I could do that continued to sell homes and begin to flip some properties so I could begin to shift to what I had started to become fascinated with, multifamily properties. From there it kind of running but that is the quick and dirty to where I am now!Connect With Our Guest:Instagram: @hestonbeaccohbeaccohomes@gmail.comCONNECT WITH US! For this episode, I have invited four of my friends and fellow real estate investors to talk about their specific market experiences thus far during the COVID-19 pandemic. I asked each of them to introduce themselves and tell us a little bit about their business. Adam Rae lives in Colorado Springs and operates his business in southern Colorado. His business works in wholesaling, flipping, and rental properties. Andy McFarland lives in Utah and is also involved in wholesaling, flipping, and owns rentals in three different markets:  Salt Lake City Utah, Albuquerque, NM, and Indianapolis, Indiana. Jeremiah Johnson runs his business remotely from his home just outside of Denver and does primarily wholesaling in the markets of Wichita and Kansas City. Terry Burger does business in the markets of Atlanta Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina, performing primarily flips. We began by discussing our different states and markets and the limitations we are seeing with the varied stay-at-home orders and how that has immediately affected our businesses. With the US economy impacted so severely by the pandemic, we all shared our projections about the real estate market going forward.
