Ubåten Ikigai har en förunderlig glasför. Där utanför finns någon som vill in.
Ikigai: A Reason For Being: The Japanese concept of Ikigai when translated means "a reason for being." There are four core elements that contribute to the concept of Ikigai. What you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can get paid for are shown as individual strands coming together. The intersection of these areas is depicted as the central point of Ikigai, suggesting that finding fulfillment and purpose involves balancing these aspects of life.Ikigai arises from the harmonious convergence of these four aspects. What you're good at: This represents your skills, talents, and abilities. What you love: This encompasses your passions, interests, and what brings you joy. What the world needs: This pertains to the contributions you can make that are valuable to society. What you can get paid for: This refers to your profession or vocation through which you can earn a living. When these four elements are aligned, you find your purpose or "reason for being," which is the essence of Ikigai.********************* Content Disclaimer ** This podcast has been created with the help of AI, using content from the FutureSTRONG Academy blog library. When you're living with a chronic illness, it can feel like your whole world revolves around management plans, symptom tracking, and just getting through the day. In the midst of all that, it's easy to lose touch with the things that used to light you up—the simple joys, passions, and pieces of yourself that make life feel meaningful. In this episode, we're talking about Ikigai, the Japanese concept that loosely translates to "reason for being." We explore how reconnecting with what you love—even in small ways—can shift your experience and allow for more freedom, peace, and ease no matter what you're dealing with. What We Talk About in This Episode:* What Ikigai means and how it relates to chronic illness* The inward focus of managing chronic illness and how it can shift your energy away from what truly lights you up* The shift from “my possibilities are limited” to “my possibilities are different”* Why healing isn't just about protocols—it's also about curiosity, passion, and doing the things that matter to youEpisode Links:* Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Healthy Life* Samantha's Thriving With Gastroparesis Community* Subscribe on SubstackTheme music from #Uppbeathttps://uppbeat.io/t/ben-johnson/cant-stop-chasing-youLicense code: LTNISOMTFHZIIXYY This is a public episode. A Gluten Free Podcast Episode 179In today's episode, I'm taking a moment to reflect on our incredible conversation last week with Iron Ramen — a gluten free Japanese restaurant built from the ground up after their son's coeliac diagnosis. We'll explore the powerful idea of doing one thing and doing it really well, and how that can lead to incredible growth — not just in business, but in life. I'll also talk about how Iron Ramen's journey reminds me of the concept of Ikigai, a Japanese philosophy about finding your reason for being, something I first came across in a book that had a big impact on me.Finding inspiration and motivation can feel tough sometimes in our gluten free lives, especially when coeliac disease can make things harder. But stories like Iron Ramen's — and the conversation I'm about to have next week with a podcast listener — show that if you don't let your diagnosis hold you back, you can find your purpose and live a great gluten free life.I'll also share a personal update on how I believe I'm finding my own Ikigai through this podcast, our community, and everything we're building at A Gluten Free Family. And, excitingly, for the first time, I'll introduce something I've wanted to do for a long time: sharing a listener's story. Next week, you'll hear from someone who has gained a lot from this podcast, and I'll sit down with them to hear their gluten free journey and how this community has impacted their life.In This Episode:A recap of our last episode with Iron Ramen: doing one thing, doing it well, and growing from thereHow a son's coeliac diagnosis inspired a thriving gluten free businessAn introduction to Ikigai: what it means and how it applies to living well with coeliac diseaseHow Iron Ramen found their Ikigai — and how it's inspiring others in the gluten-free communityMy personal journey with finding Ikigai through A Gluten Free Family and this podcastHow we can all find motivation and purpose after a coeliac diagnosisA look ahead: a special interview with a listener who found support and encouragement through this podcastHow finding your gluten free Ikigai can then help others in a similar situation to you Next week's guest: previewing our chat with Stephen about pushing through challenges and not letting anything stop youWhat is Ikigai? Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for being.” It's the sweet spot where what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for all come together. It's about living with purpose, passion, and balance — even in the small, everyday moments.Resources Mentioned:Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc MirallesIron Ramen (link to website/socials)Connect with A Gluten Free Family:Instagram: @aglutenfreefamilyFacebook: A Gluten Free Podcast Facebook GroupWebsite: www.aglutenfreefamily.comDisclaimerThe content on this podcast is not a substitution for professional medical advice. What a $500M Tech Exit Taught Him About Building a Thriving Architecture FirmWhat does a $500 million tech exit have to do with building a thriving architecture firm? In this episode, Amos Peleg shares his incredible journey—from a young man determined not to follow in his architect father's footsteps, to building Pelleck Linehouse, a thriving 20-person architecture firm. After six years of study split between Israel and New York City, Amos graduated from City College in 1999 and was quickly swept into the world of tech, joining a rooftop loft startup that sold for $550 million just three months later. That experience sparked his passion for entrepreneurship, launching a years-long pursuit of starting his own business through repeated trial and error.Eventually, family needs brought Amos back to Israel, where he partnered with a close friend and rebuilt his father's struggling firm. Along the way, he learned what it really takes to build a sustainable architecture practice—hiring the right people, identifying profitable niches, and designing processes that free him from the daily grind while still leading as CEO.He reflects on lessons from architecture school under his father's critical eye, working under a Holocaust survivor, and navigating the tension between personal passion and professional success. Through it all, Amos champions the power of vision, strategy, and Ikigai—aligning what you love, what you're good at, and what the world needs. This week at EntreArchitect Podcast, What a $500M Tech Exit Taught Him About Building a Thriving Architecture Firm with Amos Peleg.Learn more about Amos Peleg and his work at Peleg Kleinhause, and connect with him on LinkedIn.Please Visit Our Platform SponsorsArcatemy is Arcat's Continuing Education Program. On this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Genevieve White, travel copywriting expert and Founder of Campion Comms & Coaching, about why there's so much important work that needs to happen before you ever put pen to paper when you're writing copy for your travel organization. Genevieve walks us through the customer journey, from the dreaming phase to planning and booking, explaining how your copy should meet travelers where they are, every step of the way. She also shares her favorite recipe for establishing a relatable and confident tone of voice and reveals how simplicity and clarity can make your words work harder for your brand. What You Will Learn in This Episode: How Genevieve transitioned from a career in education to founding her own travel and tourism copywriting business, inspired by the Ikigai method and life changes How to craft effective copy, including the importance of deeply understanding your customer persona before writing How identifying and narrowing your target audience can transform general copy into messaging that resonates and attracts your ideal clients Why aligning your copy with different stages of the customer journey—dreaming, planning, booking, and aftercare—is crucial for moving potential travelers toward action The value of clarity, simplicity, and using “you/your” to create relatability Practical ways to instill that confidence in your writing before you get going How clear calls to action and strategically repeating key messages increase engagement on your website Think About Your Dream Customer Genevieve emphasizes that before you ever set pen to paper—or fingers to keyboard—you need to get crystal clear about who you want to attract. Lots of businesses make the mistake of casting too wide a net, hoping to appeal to “everyone,” but in reality, being everything to everyone often means resonating with no one. Genevieve suggests creating a detailed customer persona that goes beyond simple demographics like age and gender. Consider the customer's travel style, values, preferred communication platforms, and even lifestyle details, such as shopping habits or their idea of a perfect day. As she says, “It's by speaking directly to that person that you can really elevate your copy and stand out.” Match Your Copy to the Customer Journey Not all copy serves the same purpose. At various stages of their journey, from dreaming to planning, booking, and post-visit, travelers need different kinds of information and inspiration. Dreaming Stage: Here, your audience is searching for inspiration. Use evocative, sensory language to paint a picture and create a little FOMO (the fear of missing out). Focus on what makes your experience unique and let your destination's personality shine. Planning Stage: Now, your customer wants practical information. Provide details in a clear, organized manner. Use bullet points and white space to make information easy to digest, especially for mobile users. Be selective and avoid overwhelming readers with too much detail. Booking Stage: At this point, clarity and simplicity are key. Remove ambiguity and minimize unnecessary words. Make sure calls to action (CTAs) are prominent. Guide users smoothly and confidently through the booking process without distractions or confusion. The Recipe for a Great Brand Voice The most effective copy should feel like a conversation with a friend—relatable, personable, and confident. Brands often drift into a corporate or overly formal style that feels cold and unattractive. Use clear, simple language and write as you speak. Be mindful of corporate cliches in language, especially phrases like “we are passionate about.” Let people know about your expertise and offerings directly, by using simple phrases like “We do this,” or “Our experience includes…” A confident tone makes your brand more credible and helps your customer feel secure in choosing you. Genevieve recommends that if you're not feeling confident, don't write! Instead, get into a positive, empowered mindset before drafting your copy. Your energy will transfer to your words. Let's be real—life falls apart sometimes. But here's the good news: in Japan, we don't toss the broken stuff—we gold it. This week on Wabi Sabi, I'm diving into the art of kintsugi and how those so-called “cracks” in your life can actually lead you to your ikigai—your purpose, your why, your get-out-of-bed-and-make-matcha energy. It's not about having it all together—it's about loving your flaws, laughing at the mess, and finding your path anyway. This is your permission slip to be a little broken, a little fabulous, and a lot more you.

In this episode of the Connected Leadership Podcast, Andy Lopata welcomes Sri Chellappa, President and Co-Founder of Engagedly, a performance management software company, and also a passionate entrepreneur, filmmaker, musician, and people leader. He is the host of "The People Strategy Leaders" podcast, discussing the concept of ikigai and its application in creating meaningful workplaces. Ikigai, a Japanese philosophy is centred on finding purpose and can be adapted for organisational use. Sri outlines the interaction of skills, desires, and organisational goals, forming what he calls the "blue zone" where individuals find fulfillment and contribute effectively. Andy and Sri look at the importance of workplace culture, emphasising that even if an individual aligns with the first three circles (skills, desires, and goals), a toxic culture can hinder success. Sri introduces the idea of a fourth circle—engagement and culture—that encompasses all the others, ensuring alignment between personal and organisational values. Sri draws from his experience as a tech entrepreneur and filmmaker to illustrate how leaders can foster environments where employees feel empowered and trusted. The episode explores challenges like red zones, where individuals may possess only one or none of the desired traits, leading to dissatisfaction and inefficiency. Sri discusses how rapid advancements, such as AI, push employees into these zones, necessitating continuous learning and adaptation. Sri's book, "Into the Blue: Implementing Ikigai Philosophy to Create a Meaningful Workplace", serves as both a theoretical framework and a practical tool, featuring a workbook to assess team alignment with Ikigai principles. What We Discussed: Ikigai Framework : Finding purpose through the combination of skills, desires, and organisational goals, creating a "blue zone" where individuals feel fulfilled and contribute effectively to their organisations. Blue Zones & Community: Workplace culture should foster connections to combat isolation and enhance engagement. Leadership Responsibility : Leaders play a critical role in shaping organisational culture. Their behaviours set the tone for how employees interact, empowering teams or perpetuating toxic environments. Decentralised Decision-Making: Sri advocates for decentralised decision-making to promote ownership and collaboration across departments. A conversation with Louis De Jaeger, international keynote speaker, author, award-winning filmmaker, and landscape designer, about dreams, action, and storytelling—how to reach and touch people. We discuss why storytelling is highly underrated and underfunded, and why he is organizing a festival—not the next Burning Man, but a regeneration festival. He shares his excitement about small water cycle restoration, the biotic pump, and much more. And in the end, it all boils down to one simple message: Eat More Trees.During his 5-year sabbatical that turned into a lifelong mission to regenerate landscapes, Louis' revelation came during world travels where he witnessed environmental degradation firsthand—monoculture landscapes so depressing "you want to drive against a tree, but there are no trees." This observation sparked his mission to regenerate 550 million hectares of land globally, potentially cooling our planet by two degrees Celsius.Beyond the environmental benefits, Louis paints a compelling vision of a regenerative future characterized by abundance rather than sacrifice. "We're going to have an even more luxurious lifestyle, we're going to have better food that tastes fantastic" he assures us. His approach isn't about shaming people into environmentalism but showing how regenerative practices create healthier, more desirable lives.More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/louis-de-jaeger.==========================In Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast show we talk to the pioneers in the regenerative food and agriculture space to learn more on how to put our money to work to regenerate soil, people, local communities and ecosystems while making an appropriate and fair return. https://youtu.be/etlBrw4WKGw?si=NxtN4Gg1iZ02nmgV Ron Monteiro, Keynote Speaker, Facilitator, Trainer, and Author of Love Mondays, is driven by a mission to help professionals discover their purpose, build fulfilling careers, and burn their boats to fully commit to meaningful work. We learn about Ron's journey from a finance executive to an entrepreneur, speaker, and author, and how he embraced the Ikigai framework—a Japanese philosophy for finding meaning in work. He introduces the Path to Entrepreneurship Framework, a four-step approach that helps individuals transition from corporate life to a career they love: Find Your Purpose, Build Your Bridge, Burn Your Boats, and Flex Your Muscle. Ron shares insights on overcoming fear, learning to say no, and balancing financial stability with the pursuit of passion, while also exploring the mindset shifts needed to create a career where every day—not just Mondays—feels meaningful and exciting. --- Burn Your Boats Good day, dear listeners, Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast. And my guest today is Ron Monteiro, keynote speaker, facilitator, trainer, and the author of Love Mondays. Ron, welcome to the show. Thank you, Steve. I'm very excited to be here. Well, it's exciting to have you. You have a very interesting career coming across the world to be here with us. And you also have some interesting frameworks that you're using. So, let's start with what drives you. What is your personal “Why?” And what is this Ikigai process that you mentioned on social media and your posts that help people find theirs? Yeah, I want to rewind. Like I'm a big proponent of purpose and life work and things like that. Many years ago, I would be shaking my head because I wasn't clear on my purpose. So, I've done a lot of work and a lot of personal development work that a lot of it talks about how do you start with what is your “Why,” what is your purpose? Simon Sinek, as you've mentioned. And my purpose now is I get a lot of joy from helping others. So, the way I've phrased it, how do I help myself and others love Mondays and every other day? And I think it connects to my book, which talks about how do you love Mondays? So today's a Monday that we're recording, and every other day. And then Ikigai is a beautiful Japanese concept that talks about people who don't even have a word for retirement. They love what they're doing so much, and it's connected to their life purpose.Share on X So, Ikigai is a framework I love. There's a whole book on Ikigai, if anybody's interested, which asks four simple questions. “What do you love to do?” is the first one. And this is something we journal. So let's say five years from now, what I love to do might be slightly different than today. So it's not a fixed destination. It's one of those iterative processes. So, you start with “What do I love to do?” The second is, “What am I good at?” So for me, I love teaching and I think I'm pretty good at it. I've done it for a while now. So, what do I love doing? The third is “What does the world need?” Okay, so if I continue with my example, I think the world needs people to teach them things. So, for me, one of my favorite topics to teach is soft skills and story time because I really struggled there. I landed a company that helped me overcome my fear and now I teach it for a living. So that in itself is a “Why” for me. And then the fourth question is, “What can you get paid for?” I know inflation and all these things are coming into play. So, if you can answer those four questions and it's right in the bullseye, right in the heart of those, and think about four circles, concentric circles. If you find something that's in the middle there, it's your Ikigai, it's your reason for living, it's your reason for waking up on a Monday and every other day. And that's, to me, a lifelong journey. And if you hit any of those two questions in isolation,

In this episode, Jennifer and I delve into the multifaceted concept of passion, exploring its role in our lives (beyond the romantic notion often associated with it.) We discuss the pressures society places on individuals to find and monetize their passions, the importance of recognizing that passion can evolve, and the idea of Ikigai as a guiding principle for finding purpose. Also, we talk about nurturing passion without the burden of expectation, allowing it to enrich our lives instead of dictating our career paths. Thanks so much for being here, Tanya Superlatively Yes website Superlatively Yes on Patreon Superlatively Yes Instagram Page Superlatively Yes Facebook Page Tanya's Instagram Tanya's Facebook Takeaways Passion is often misunderstood and can create unnecessary pressure. It's okay for passion to change over time; it doesn't have to be a constant. Many people feel lost when trying to identify their passion, which is normal. Passion should enrich our lives, not dictate our careers. Finding your Ikigai can help clarify your purpose in life. It's important to separate passion from the need to monetize it. Real-life experiences can help uncover what you are passionate about. Nurturing passion can lead to unexpected opportunities and growth. Hard work and honest jobs have intrinsic value, even if they aren't our passion. We should allow ourselves to explore different interests without the pressure of being perfect.
