Episode Titles in The Original Series. “What’s in a name?” Juliet demands of Romeo. “That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.” In 1968, the Star Trek episode “By Any Other Name” took more than just its title from Shakespeare—it used Juliet’s words as a jumping-off point to consider what makes us human. But it was also characteristic of the Original Series scriptwriters to lean on such rich literary source material when it came time to name this particular episode. In fact, throughout Trek’s 50-plus-year history, the names given to individual episodes have often revealed a lot about their content—sometimes providing additional context to what is depicted on screen. In this episode of Primitive Culture, the first in a series looking at episode titles throughout Star Trek, host Duncan Barrett is joined by Tony Black to consider some of the more interesting among Trek’s original 80 installments as we ponder the difference between a cage and a menagerie, work out exactly who does mourn for Adonais, and try to remember just what little girls are supposed to be made of. Alternate TOS Episode Titles, Part II. Retitling season one of The Original Series was so much fun, we're back with more alternate episode titles for the second season! This time host Zach Moore is joined by host of Melodic Treks and Warp Five Brandon-Shea Mutala to take on the likes of Wolf in the Fold, A Private Little War and Return to Tomorrow and reimagine them as if they were titled at the height the "Berman Era" of Star Trek. What are our favorite episode titles of season two? What do we think of Harry Mudd's episodes? Why is The Thaw the perfect Berman Era title? Standard Orbit 272: Less Creative Is The Goal Alternate TOS Episode Titles. The Original Series is well known for it's flowery, cultured and sometimes dare we say pretentious episode titles, so this week on Standard Orbit hosts Ken Tripp and Zach Moore thought it would be fun to do a run down of the first season's episode titles and reimagine them as if they were titled at the height the "Berman" era of Star Trek when the music was wallpaper and the titles were too.  What are our favorite episode titles of season one? Which titles would already fit perfectly into the "Berman" era among such classic titles like The Void, The Chute, The Catwalk, etc. Does Zach change the conditions of the test one too many times? All this and more in this week's Standard Orbit, boldly listen! Chapters  Welcome to Standard Orbit! Many industries have a code of ethics established for their industry, but Podcasting doesn't have anything formally established. In this episode we discuss some things that we've seen over the years (and some things that we've had conversations with other podcasters) that might be a consideration when discussing Podcasting Ethics. Our segment isn't intended to suggest podcasting ethics (that's well beyond our control), but just to highlight some of the things that we've seen happening in podcasting that we feel you should be aware of, and how it can impact you as a podcaster. In this week's Better Podcasting Download, we follow-up to last week's discussion about Apple and title tags as Apple sent out two more emails after we recorded the previous email. To be clear - in Apple's 2nd and 3rd emails, they have changed their position and clearly stated "Your Show Won’t Be Removed for Having Episode Numbers in Episode Titles"(woo hoo!) We also discuss Stephen's interaction with the Rodecaster Pro 1.10 Firmware update and how it's not a multi-track recorder. Finally, in the Better Podback we discuss our Discord channel's reaction to the Rodecaster Pro not delivering multi-track recording. Apple seems to have backed down on Episode Numbers in Episode Titles.  Here is a partial quote from the email they sent out... We’ve received a lot of questions about metadata best practices on Apple Podcasts. We want to provide more details and clarification as you think about improving your show’s metadata. Your Show Won’t Be Removed for Having Episode Numbers in Episode Titles Starting with iOS 11 in September 2017, we introduced modern RSS tags to improve podcast metadata. These tags include support for seasons, trailers, and episode numbers. The new tags help us present your show to your listeners on Apple Podcasts and present listening data to you in Podcast Analytics. Be sure to listen to Episode 117 for the first part of this story... Here is a list of the apps/directories that are using the Apple Tags and not using the Apple tags.
