Seema Bansal is the founder of Venus ET Fleur, the company behind Eternity Roses, which are real roses that stay fresh for a full year, an invention that has permanently transformed the billion-dollar floral industry. Seema never set out to start a company in the floral business. In 2015, Seema was in a long-distance relationship with her now husband and business partner, Sunny. He sent her flowers on Valentine's Day and they looked horrible despite the large price tag he paid. This sparked their idea of creating a better experience and luxury flowers that actually looked great for a longer period of time. As their relationship began to bloom, so did their idea of transforming the online floral industry and that’s when their business was born. At the time, both Seema and Sunny were working for their family businesses and decided to leave to embark on a new journey together despite having no experience in the floral industry. Good thing they did, very early into their launch - their signature Eternity Roses became Instagram's most coveted bouquet after the Kardashians posted about the brand in 2016. Their multi-million dollar business has developed a loyal customer base which includes celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Oprah, Drake, Cardi B, and many more. We’ll chat with Seema about the skills she learned in her family plumbing business that have helped her as an entrepreneur, how social media was a game-changer when launching their brand, and the importance of prioritizing your mental health when being a leader of a high growth business. In this episode, we'll talk to Seema about: * Seema discusses her upbringing with Indian parents who immigrated to Canada to create a new life for themselves [3:14]* Seema shares her involvement in the family business from a young age & how it has impacted her business acumen today [7:34]* Why Seema decided to chart her own path and start Venus Et Fleur with her then boyfriend, now husband and co-founder, Sunny [12:56]* Seema talks about the early days of the business and why she decided to leave the family business to chart her own path [16:47]* How the company transitioned from a classic flower delivery service to shipping luxury flowers that lasted for a year [18:36]* As the key driver for all brand and marketing, Seema shares the challenges she faced early in the business when trying to gain awareness and traction with the messaging [23:58]* How influencer marketing and a shout out from the Kardashians completely changed the trajectory of the business [25:41]* Seema shares tips on how to think about business partnerships & opens up about what it’s like to work with her husband [33:21]* How COVID impacted the business and the changes they made to support the new environment we’re in [37:05]* Seema shares tips on how she stays inspired both in life and business [41:25]* How Seema handles burnout and shifts she’s made in her life as a leader to help create more balance [45:07]Follow Seema:* Personal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/seemabansalchadha/ * Company Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/VENUSETFLEUR/ * Venus Et Fleur Website: https://www.venusetfleur.com* Chiji Website: https://homeofchiji.com/Follow Yasmin:* Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yasminknouri/* Stay updated & subscribe to our newsletter: https://www.behindherempire.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Happy New Year to all of our listeners! The beginning of a new year is a time to reset. Today's conversation is about a 6-part framework to allow you to build a system to help you reach your potential, to become the elephant in the content room so to speak. Here are the 6-parts we discuss: Intelligence - Commit to personal growth Y-O-Y by focusing on developing 1-2 skills (how long depends on scope and depth). Use your trunk - Be adaptable and learn how to problem solve. Stay on your toes - Plan ahead, but prepare to pivot based on information gathered along the way. Consume tons - Be attentive in content consumption, and bring in influences outside your area. Migrate - Get uncomfortable and be willing to explore different environments. Cultivate Community - Share what you learn and think about how you can set your teammates up for success. The debate over American immigration policy has obsessed politicians and disrupted the lives of millions of people for decades. In The Battle To Stay in America: Immigration's Hidden Front Line (University of Nevada Press, 2020), Professor Michael Kagan focuses on Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas is a city where more than one in five residents was born in a foreign country. It's a city dependent on its immigrant population, but one where the community is struggling to defend itself against the federal government’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants. Professor Kagan tells this story not just as a front-line immigration lawyer, but also as a citizen, as a friend, and a parent. His intensely personal account converts headlines, complicated and punitive legal processes, and unjust bureaucratic procedures into the personal stories of the struggles to survive the severe immigration policing of the current administration. This is the immigration story that needs to be told: the disappearances of neighbors, the breaking up of families, the parents who are forever relegated to working jobs below their potential because immigration laws prevent them ever being free and equal. Kagan explains how American immigration law often gives good people no recourse. Under President Trump complex bureaucracies that administer immigration law have been re-engineered to carry out a relentless but often invisible attack against people and families who are integral to American communities. Professor Kagan tells the stories of people desperate to escape unspeakable violence in their homeland, children separated from their families and trapped in a tangle of administrative regulations, and hardworking long-time residents suddenly ripped from their productive lives when they fall unwittingly into the clutches of the immigration enforcement system. He considers how the crackdown on immigrants negatively impacts the national economy and offers a deeply considered assessment of the future of immigration policy in the United States. Kagan also captures the psychological costs exacted by fear of deportation and by increasingly overt expressions of hatred against immigrants. The Battle to Stay in America could not be more timely; with a changing Administration it's time not just to rethink America's immigration policy, but change how we think about immigration entirely. Professor Michael Kagan is the director of the UNLV Immigration Clinic, which defends children and families fighting deportation in Las Vegas, and is a Joyce Mack Professor of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was a plaintiff that prevented the Trump administration from adding a question about citizenship to the 2020 census. He has written for The Washington Post, Salon.com and The Daily Beast, and is a leading national scholar of immigration and refugee law. He is one of the most widely cited immigration scholars in the United States, and his work has been relied on in courts in the United States and beyond. Although the best advice urges us to pick a niche and stick with it, that’s really hard to do. We’re creative people and entrepreneurs. We want to do all the things. It’s in our very nature. That’s why stepping back and taking a more hands-off approach can be a challenge. Today’s guest understands the struggle and has some great advice for any of you going through it. Key Takeaways Having a well-defined process for bringing in employees is essential. Have your workflow structures in place and refine them as needed. Give new hires a trial-run to see if they like what you’re doing. This will let you step back and hand over responsibility as smoothly as possible. Getting work takes a lot more than making a great video. Your personality and the connections you make are just as, if not more, important. Cultivate being the person that others think of when they need video. Be the person who they can always deliver when called on and regularly work on maintaining those relationships. About Anthony Seratelli Anthony started Jersey Filmmaker while playing baseball, mixing his love for sports and storytelling to build a brand synonymous with innovation and creative excellence. With help from teammates, family, and friends, he co-starred in and produced one-of-a-kind content ranging from comedic sketches to short features to documenting historical moments in sports. Gaining experience in cinematography, editing, VFX composition, and sound design, he used his platform to develop a niche in filmmaking and a creative game plan that has taken him all over the world. Upon retiring from baseball, Anthony shifted his efforts to the other side of the camera and aligned a roster of all-star directors, cinematographers, producers, editors, and audio specialists to take on projects of every scale and genre. He now brings his vision and creativity to a larger audience and a variety of programming opportunities. Being More Hands-off as Your Business Grows As business owners, it’s only natural to become protective of all the aspects of our company. Anthony and I describe how we learned to let go and why it’s an essential part of growing your business. Many of us start these businesses because we want more freedom. Well, that’s something you can’t get if you have your hands in every aspect of it. This is why it’s crucial to bring in more people as you grow. While this takes cultivating a lot of trust on your part, it’s necessary. Anthony highly recommends refining your workflow and using trial-runs to make onboarding as smooth as possible. Marketing by Personality Also, the key to growing and maintaining your business is being reliable. Anthony and I discuss what it takes to be the person who others think of when they need a project. This goes way beyond the videos that you make. Rather, it is centered on consistency and just being likable and good to work with. Often, people will remember what it’s like to work with you as much, or maybe even more, than your videos themselves. Being humble, kind, and ready to serve is the best marketing you can do. It’s that which will bring you to the front of their mind when they need a project. What is one thing in your business that you can change or improve this year? How would building a bigger team change what you do inside your business? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: The importance of not doing all the things and how to not do them [4:00] The most crucial step when hiring someone [12:35] Overcoming the challenges of remote work [21:30] Why building relationships result in the best ROI [28:30] Tips and tricks for better package pricing [36:05] Quotes “Getting your hands off of anything as you grow is really difficult ‘cause you ingrain yourself in it; you know every aspect of it. That’s what I love about that - that I know everything and it’s really hard to let it go and not know everything that’s going on. But it’s also really cool when you get the right people in place who you trust and want to work with.” [6:01] “People can create what I’m creating with $100,000 worth of gear with an iPhone. It’s scary if you think of it that way but I’m not scared because at the same time we provide a service with not just the quality of the content but obviously our minds are creative. It’s something different that we bring to the table.” [31:45] “I got into this because of a love of creating. But then I started building a business and I love that just as much. One of the things I didn’t realize would intrigue me so much or make me so happy and excited to be in the business world is building the team and paying people.” [47:59] Links: Join Grow Your Video Business on Facebook Sign up for the free Client Budget Workshop Core Find Anthony Seratelli online Follow Anthony on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter I Am Athlete Podcast Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? This is a big one, class! This week, Zach and Stephen sit down for a full interview with the kind and talented Joel McHale (Community, The Soup, this one episode of Diagnosis: Murder) and it was truly chaotic in You Can't Disappoint a Podcast fashion. Off-air Joel immediately began cracking wise and making fun of us, particularly for Zach's bare-bones apartment, asked us if we were still in high school and jokingly changed his Zoom display name to Zachary Baker. On-air this very much continued and we're extremely pleased to share our conversation with him. We promise we'll pay for Zoom Pro next time. You Can't Disappoint a Podcast is launching their official Patreon on February 1st, 2021 at patreon.com/cantdisappointpodcast! This will help us move the show forward and it will offer you countless hours of additional Zach and Stephen content, chances to hang out with us one-on-one and ways to influence our podcast directly. The flagship of our Patreon will be You Can't Diss a Pre-Show, our weekly livestreamed pre-podcast every Thursday (starting January 7th) at 12:30 PM EST, will be streamed for FREE every Thursday in January across our YouTube, Twitter and Facebook pages before it becomes exclusive to our patrons in February. Stay tuned for more info on what's next for us every week in January. Special thanks to Joel McHale for finding time to talk with us, Communiess on Twitter who without we surely wouldn't have gotten to do this interview and for everyone who's listened and engaged with our show at any point. Here's to a fruitful 2021 for the podcast! Send in your unanswered trivia questions, episode MVP and favorite funny moment from next week's episode to cantdisappointpodcast@gmail.com! As a young boy, Thomas Edison’s teacher’s told him that he was "too stupid to learn anything,” and he didn’t have much more success in the workplace, either, as he was fired from his first two jobs for being unproductive. As an inventor, some reports claim that Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. Fortunately, attempt number 1,001 was a success and the rest, as they say, is history. But Thomas Edison wasn’t alone. Other well-known names began as slow students, mediocre employees, or less than stellar individuals, with little or no hope of achieving anything with their lives by the world’s standards…names like Gates, Einstein, Winfrey, Spielberg, Jobs, and Disney, just to name a few. But we all know that that wasn’t the end of the story, that these people, and others just like them, went on to change the world in their own way. Well, the Bible is also full of the names of plain, ordinary people, individuals that were often perceived as useless or under-achievers, until God stepped in and did the impossible with their lives. And He still does that today! Stay with us, as we discover together how God Can Use the Ordinary to Do the Extraordinary, on this podcast.

The squad assembles to discuss new years's resolutions. Clearly the Beaveman considers them to be ridiculous. You got to have goals people! All year long. Also we find out that the Ronz makes comments about seeing the Beaveman undressing in the locker room on more then one podcast. What is the deal? We hope everyone has a wonderful New Year. Thank you to all of our listeners. We cannot tell you how much you mean to us. Stay safe from all of the members of the Slaptail Squad!
Self-acceptance can not be based on outside influences. The old saying it's what's inside that counts comes to mind during the show. Keep your thoughts on target with your goals and dreams and do not let others tamper with them at all. Stay on your defined path towards your goal and let no one derail you. If you’re enjoying the show, it’s safe to assume there are others out there like you who would also enjoy the show. Help them find it. Please share this podcast and maybe the person you share it with will overcome that one thing in life they were struggling with. We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate. This Week - Twilight (2009)Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner (because he is buff, now) A wonderful movie that is a sparkly shirtless teenage beefcake Hell. We ask the tough questions this week…Was Edward really that interesting to be this depressed over? What happens to wolves' clothes when they change into a wolf? Do vampires have fish powers? **There’s a lot of poop jokes in this episode for some reason??? Listen to the podcast - then watch the movie or vice versa! But stay home, please.
