Reizi gadā upē to izmazgāja.

We've reached the end of S.2 of "Discovery" and...it's a LOT, guys. "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II" is mostly action sequences all just strung together rapid-fire with only a few, regrettably-brief pauses for character work. Also one of the worst lines in the history of "Star Trek" is here. All we need is some Beastie Boys and we're at the crossroads of all off JJ Abrams' worst impulses. Also this week: Bill & Ted, rocky ships, and wrapping season 2! Before The Wrath of Khan became the fan-favorite sequel we know today, Star Trek II went through multiple story pitches, including one from original series contributor Samuel A. Peeples. In the summer of 1981, Peeples outlined a new character: Commander SsAVIK, a half-Vulcan, half-Romulan officer with a sharp intellect and complex heritage. This week on The Trek Files, Ben Robinson joins Larry to discuss Peeples' early concept for SsAVIK, how it evolved into the Saavik we met on screen, and the wider creative tug-of-war between Gene Roddenberry, Harve Bennett, and Nick Meyer as the sequel took shape. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week, featuring two more unused characters from Peeples' draft! Document and additional references: Samuel A. In the history of Star Trek there have been 185 episodes that begin with the word “The,” and on this week's TrekRanks, for absolutely no reason at all, we are breaking down our “Top 5 Episodes that Begin with The.” Our expert panel of host Jim Moorhouse and guests Deb Moltisanti, Adam Sanders and Anthony Moltisanti each come up with their own reasons for how they made their picks, but one thing was consistent throughout – there is no doubt that many of the greatest episodes in Star Trek history being with the word “the.” This one is a surprising TrekRanks classic. Episode Rundown: Diagnostic Cycle: We break down some fun and specific “the” facts for each series of Star Trek and how often their titles begin with “the.” Prime Directive: Each guest on this week's panel reveals exactly how they narrowed down their list and made their final choices. Critical this week for such a specific topic. The Order of Things: All the picks are revealed with the TrekRanks' original “Five words and a hashtag” summary. Secondary Systems: For a few extra picks that just missed our final list. Regeneration Cycle: The panel recaps their picks and we dissect some of the interesting statistical anomalies that arose from the discussion. Temporal Inversion: We flashback to a previous episode of TrekRanks and relay some of the feedback received from listeners. If you have your own picks you would like to relay to us, please hail us at 757-828-RANK (7265) and record your own personal TrekRanks log to let us know your Top 5 Episodes that Begin with “The.” (Or you can record it yourself and just DM us @TrekRanks.com on Bluesky.) The Klingon Soap Opera returns and Michael takes a merry jaunt across space in "Through the Valley of Shadows". Pike is seeking the rather mystical-sounding Time Crystal from a Klingon monastery that looks like it was plucked straight from Earth, while Burnham has gone rogue yet again in search of information on Control. And along the way they both encounter familiar faces that aren't at all familiar and could literally have been ANYONE else. Before he was a celebrated Star Trek writer and producer, Ronald D. Moore was a fan, just like so many of us, watching reruns, devouring The Making of Star Trek, and listening to Gene Roddenberry's 1976 spoken-word album Inside Star Trek. In part one of our two-part conversation, Ron reflects on how that Columbia Records release shaped his early views of the franchise. We explore the stories that resonated with him most, including Gene's candid recollections of his own childhood challenges, and how those moments helped inspire Ron's own journey into the Star Trek universe. From its earliest concept stages, Star Trek: The Next Generation set out to break new ground, including the intentional addition of a disabled crewmember to the Enterprise-D. Inspired by and named for a real fan, George LaForge, this character was part of a push for greater representation and inclusivity on screen. This week, The Trek Files welcomes actor and artist Bruce Horak, known to fans as Hemmer from Strange New Worlds. Bruce shares his personal journey as a blind actor stepping into Star Trek's universe, the impact of authentic representation, and his new documentary Boldly Going, where he paints portraits of people who have overcome significant challenges in their own lives. Content note: The historical document featured in this episode contains outdated language and descriptions of disabled individuals. While we do not endorse these terms, we present the full text in the interest of transparency and historical context. Relics (Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), S6 E4) was recommended by Kyyanno (Kyy for short, rhymes with Sky), he/him, who said: I've always loved the engineering side of Trek, from the designs of the ships to the entirely fictional but awesome systems that make them tick. I've read "Mr Scott's guide to the Enterprise" and the TNG "Technical Manual" from cover to cover many a time. Scotty was my favourite character from TOS, and Geordi from TNG, both making me want to pursue a career in engineering while growing up (which indeed I did!). To have both characters appearing *and* working together in the same episode of TNG was an absolute dream for me when it originally aired! Now that I'm older though, I watch the episode with more experienced eyes. Scotty's just trying to help and feel useful as he would have been, and yet just gets in the way, at least that's the impression he gets from Geordi, who is genuinely just trying to get his job done but doesn't quite realise his impact on Captain Scott's feelings. It's Picard's words to Scott in the holodeck, and then to Geordi later on that all a person wants is to be useful and feel wanted that *REALLY* hit home, 3 decades on.Sure, this episode pushes the fanboy buttons, but deep down it also makes us take a look at how we treat those around us who we feel might be past their prime (or how those of us approaching that age might feel). I did always find the "oh no, we're falling into the sun" part of the episode.... hang on.... *I SAY WE EJECT THE WARP CORE*.... don't they miraculously seem to fix everything amazingly in time to turn around and then get out of there once the doors open? Regardless, both Geordi and Scotty save the day, and the engineer in me squees with glee at it.Relics first aired on October 12, 1992, written by Ronald D. Moore, and directed by Alexander SingerThe Enterprise investigates a vessel that crashed on the surface of a Dyson sphere 75 years ago. A pattern is found in the transporter buffer that turns out to be Montgomery Scott. He is released from the buffer and later agrees to return to the vessel with Geordi to help restore the logs. They become the only hope when the Enterprise is accidentally pulled inside the sphere. Guest Star: James Doohan as Montgomery ScottThe Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook
It's Bank Holiday Monday, so let's take it easy and talk about some comics. After promising it early in the show's history, Charlie's finally read the first arc of IDW's Star Trek comic by Lanzig & Kelly. Look, we're Casual Trek, this is the level of service you get from us.The first arc, “Godshock” features that classic Star Trek concept: thumbing your teeth at god, only this time it's a bad thing as someone's killing gigantic cosmic entities! Who did this and how can it be stopped? Well, Ben Sisko's back from his time as a cosmic entity to find out, with an almost all-star cast of people from throughout Star Trek History. There's Data and Dr Crusher from TNG, Paris from Voyager, Scotty from TOS and Jake Sisko is also there. Worf guest stars for long enough to be a bad parent and back door pilot for another series, and there are a couple of new characters who are a lot of fun.Join us on the USS Theseus and prepare for a lot of tangents, as we both love talking comics.References: The Super Stalag of Space, Harry 20 on the High Rock, Dan Dare, Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation Squared, Quatermass and the Pit, The Legion of Super-Heroes, The Legion Clubhouse, comic collection sizes, YES Charlie has put rolled-up Walking Dead volumes in his back pocket, the Bendis New Avengers approach to team-building, Billy Pilgrim, The Krakoan Age of X-Men, Marvel Swimsuit Specials (which are coming back), release a Star Trek Swimsuit Special you cowards!, Data pages vs data pages, Gilmore Girls spoiled Anna Karenina for me, Charlie's Super Mario Quest 2025, the Summers family tree, the Dark Horse Buffy Series, Marvel's Star Wars, Dr Who comics, the Energon Universe, the CLZ collector's app, Malibu Comics' Star Trek… Oh, and sometimes IDW's Star Trek.

Soap Operas, Starships, and the Paris/Locarno Thing The Sistas got to sit down with the one and only Robert Duncan McNeill. Before he was flying through the Delta Quadrant as Lieutenant Tom Paris, Robbie was stirring up drama on the classic soap All My Children. We talk about his early days on daytime TV, how he found his true calling behind the camera, and his journey from actor to one of the most respected directors in the biz. And yes, we had to ask about Tom Paris vs. Nick Locarno—and his answer? Let's just say it gave us life! We also geek out over his podcast The Delta Flyers with Garrett Wang, and how rewatching Voyager has given him a whole new appreciation for the show and the fans. It wasn't just the series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise. “These Are the Voyages” marked the end of an 18-year era of continuous Star Trek on television, dating back to The Next Generation in 1987. Emotions ran high on set, and not all of them were celebratory. Returning guest Mike DeMeritt, First Assistant Director on Enterprise, brings us a candid look behind the scenes of Trek's broadcast-era farewell. From dismantled sets to discarded call sheets (but not underwear), we explore the atmosphere and aftermath of one of Trek's most controversial finales. The sum is somehow greater than its parts this week on "Discovery", as an overwrought trope plays a sort-of central role and we get to know someone just in time to never see them again in "Project Daedalus". The plot doesn't so much ramp up as spiral off into a whole new direction as the real villain is finally/suddenly revealed. Meanwhile, Spock is in A MOOD. Collaboration is a vital skill across many fields and disciplines. But effective collaboration is about much more than just working together. In this week's episode of The Mindtools L&D Podcast, Ross D and Paula are joined by Fraser Mcdonald, Head of Collaboration at Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) and Deputy Director of the Data for Children Collaborative, to discuss: why collaboration is important when it comes to solving 'wicked problems'; how Mindtools worked with the EFI to develop a game that's designed to build collaboration skills; why a game was the right solution to this problem, and how it's being deployed within the EFI. To find out more about the work Fraser does, check out the Edinburgh Futures Institute and Data for Children Collaborative's websites. In 'What I Learned This Week', Paula mentioned that she'd been digging into the surprisingly wild history of papal conclaves. With little time to exhale, the crew jumped into a new era: new cast, new look, even new tech (farewell, hand-written call sheets!). But as always, the most revealing stories live between the lines. First Assistant Director Mike DeMeritt returns to The Trek Files to help decode a pair of call sheets and share what they say about how Trek kept boldly going behind the scenes. Will he stay there or will James Wood get another chance at the top of the order?(11:15) It was hard luck loss for MacKenzie Gore as he only allowed a pair of runs in six innings of work. Gore struck out eight Orioles and moved ahead of Zack Wheeler for the MLB lead in that category.(15:30) Washington had a solid performance by their bullpen. Henry was formerly a promising starter in the organization before needing thoracic outlet surgery (TOS) a few years back.(23:10) Juan Soto and the Mets come to DC for a four game series beginning Friday night. New York has won seven consecutive games and have the best record in baseball.(26:00) An update on Paul DeJong, who will have surgery on his broken nose.
