On this week's episode of Sense by Meg Faure, we tackle a vital topic: preventing baby allergies. Joined by Dr. Claudia Gray, a Cape Town-based pediatrician specializing in allergies, Meg explores actionable ways parents can reduce the risk of allergies in their little ones. The episode provides expert insights, from pregnancy through weaning, to help parents navigate the complexities of allergy prevention. With practical advice and evidence-based tips, this discussion is essential for any parent concerned about their baby's health and well-being. 1. Understanding Allergies Dr. Claudia Gray explains what allergies are and how they result from the immune system's improper response to harmless substances. She highlights genetic, environmental, and epigenetic factors that contribute to the rise of allergies. 2. Pregnancy and Allergy Prevention Parents are advised not to eliminate allergens during pregnancy, as it does not reduce the risk of allergies. Claudia emphasizes the importance of eating a balanced diet and possibly including oily fish or omega supplements for added protection. 3. Weaning and Early Allergen Introduction Introducing allergens between 4-6 months is critical in reducing the likelihood of developing food allergies. Claudia shares guidance on safely incorporating foods like peanut butter and eggs into a baby's diet. She also stresses seeking professional advice if the baby shows signs of severe eczema or allergy risks. 4. Managing Eczema to Reduce Allergy Risks Claudia calls eczema an "allergy emergency" due to its role in allowing allergens to penetrate the skin. She discusses effective skin care, including moisturizers and anti-inflammatory treatments, to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce risks. 5. The Role of the Gut and Skin Microbiome Claudia explores the importance of the gut and skin microbiomes in developing a healthy immune system. Recommendations include breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, avoiding unnecessary antibiotics, and introducing a wide variety of foods to support gut health. This episode equips parents with evidence-based strategies to prevent allergies and navigate early signs of potential risks. With actionable advice and expert insights, listeners gain confidence in managing their baby's health. Tune in to Sense by Meg Faure for a practical guide to reducing allergy risks and building a strong foundation for your child's future well-being.
Here's what we're reading, recommending, and revisiting this week.Catherine's library find is a trio of cozy mysteries by Claudia Gray, all starring Jane Austen characters: The Murder of Mr. Wickham (2022), The Late Mrs. Willoughby (2023), and The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bough (2024). These are an absolutely delightful (and non-stressful) way to revisit these characters, and there's even a little helping of romance. Mentioned: Death Comes to Pemberley, another contemporary author's take on an Austen-themed mystery.Terri's random recommendation is Artful Plus, the premium version of Artful Agenda, a digital planner we both use. With Artful Plus, you get a habit tracker and the ability to make and use your own stickers, among other perks. Mentioned: The Artful Agenda Facebook group, Artfully Obsessed. In the archives, we discussed an episode from 2020 on how parents can pay it forward (which we think is more helpful than starting or participating in a drive-thru pay-it-forward chain). Mentioned: Books from our former co-hosts: Inclusion in Action by Nicole Eredics and Neurodiversity-Affirming Schools (January 2025) by Amanda Morin.Next week's lineup: Lost S1 E23, "Exodus: Part 2," on Tuesday, December 17Shrinking S2 E6, "Get in the Sea," on Wednesday, December 18Weekly roundup on Thursday, December 19Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available.

We've been talking a lot lately about the how hard it is to finish a project and how different that energy is from the wonderful, euphoric, sometimes manic starting energy. Here's some advice from Jess, Sarina, and Jennie on how authors manage their lives and relationships and work amid the ups and downs of writing projects. AmReading: Sarina: She's been loving the Orphan X series by Greg HurwitzJennie: Her fave read this week is Dear Edward by Ann NapolitanoJess: Finally got around to listening to Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and KJ convinced her to download The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray. She also started The Sicilian Inheritance by return guest Jo Piazza. Hey, it's Jennie Nash, founder and CEO of Author Accelerator. I hear so many people tell me that book coaching sounds like their dream job, and they wish they could do it, but they can't because ___________. Fill in the blank, whatever it is: They don't have an agent, they haven't written a bestseller, they don't have a Ph.D., they weren't an English major, they don't know enough about the publishing industry--whatever the thing is. And I can tell you that I see people overcome these things every single day. I have a presentation on this, on imposter syndrome. It's the single biggest barrier keeping most people from saying YES to their dream job. Come check it out at bookcoaches.com/imposter. That's bookcoaches.com/imposter. This is a public episode. “Trials of the Darksaber” (Rebels S3, Ep. 15) is, quite simply, one of the tightest-scripted, haunting, and beautiful episodes of Rebels so far. And “Warhead” (Ep. 14) is a delightful buddy cop special feat. Zeb and AP-5. This week, we dive deep into the lore of lightsabers and darksabers. We talk about what it means to wield the Force, rather than just be a part of its flow, and talk about Sabine's inner demons. And Sam crowns Sabine and Kanan's training duel as one of the Top 5 Lightsaber Duels, Ever. In the meantime, Thrawn has cut his list of planets the Rebels may be inhabiting down to 94… Want even more Growing Up Skywalker? In this episode of Rule the Galaxy Joe and Brent get the opportunity to host special guest: Claudia Gray If you like the High Republic, Leia, Bloodline, Lost Stars, and Master and Apprentice check out this episode. A very fun and informative interview. We will have Claudia back on to discuss Andor in the future.
In this episode of Rule the Galaxy...we had some timing issues. While we were waiting for Claudia Gray to show up...Brent and Joe just decided to do an impromptu show. We talk a little bit about everything...at the end it shuts down abruptly as Claudia showed up. So we made that into a completely different show...
Not to dunk on it too badly, but so little of note happened in “The Wynkahthu Job” (Rebels S3, Ep. 9) that we added “Visions and Voices” (Rebels S3, Ep. 11) to our watch this week. Combined, these episodes show that there are two Boomers inside of you—a Hondo and a Maul—and you become the one you feed. We spend quality time on Dathomir getting hassled by Nightsister ghosts, and watch Thrawn touring the facility and picking up slack on Lothal. Join us this week for an impromptu triple-header as we explore themes of sabotage, betrayal, and oppression. We also talk about the next owner of the darksaber, Maul's trauma-goggles, and Ezra growing up. Want even more Growing Up Skywalker? This is a great time to sign up for our Patreon for bonus audio content! After we finish Visions Season 2, we're on to a big old recap of Claudia Gray's “Master and Apprentice” novel, starring baby Obi-Wan and peak Qui-Gonn Jinn. "Huttslayer", a relatively new but cannon title for Leia Organa Skywalker, is a title that isn't always discussed - but should be! By writing it into the novel "Bloodline", Claudia Gray effectively gave Leia a title filled with honor and respect. When Leia killed Jabba the Hutt, she not only liberated herself, but also avenged her biological father by killing his slaver. In doing so, she also liberated thousands more, even her own brother, by taking the chain Jabba used on her and killing him with her bare hands. For this reason and SO many more, Leia remains as bad ass as ever, and we honor her by calling her the "Huttslayer." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/most-things-kenobi/support

Stef and Chris discuss the next book in the Star Wars The High Republic saga. "Into the Dark" written by Claudia Gray is the first "Young Adult" book in the series, and Stef and Chris have to temper their....well....style...a little bit. The book introduces a ton of new characters, including a bunch of Jedi. One of those Jedi personally attacks the divas. We also meet the Vessel crew, but Stef isn't totally sold on one of the crew members.
