Silverware is ours once more! We're back to take our first victory lap of the Popa-lution era. We also discuss milk sculls and preview our upcoming fixtures against Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets.
We covered a ton of talking points from Adelaide's home defeat at the hands of Sydney, and had a chat about the brilliant finale to the FFA Cup Final between Melbourne Victory and the Central Coast.
Are Wellington Phoenix the new team to watch in the A-League Mens? How will the Central Coast bounce back following their FFA Cup Final loss? Will we see an all-Melbourne Grand Final this season in the A-League? Answering all these questions and more on this week's podcast!
And you thought last week was bad. As Australian football continued to come to grips with the Matildas disastrous early exit from the Asian Cup, it was hit by a fresh blow this week when the Socceroos were held to a 2-2 draw with Oman in Muscat - effectively ending their hopes of automatic qualification. But was that really a surprise? Or more of an inevitability that should have been seen coming? With a full TNC roster on hand, the Socceroos fate (21:25) was on the agenda this week, and brought in extra reinforcements in the form of Pokuah Frimpong to discuss the ongoing debate surrounding Tony Gustavsson's tenure (38:20) - Operation: Narrative Shift and all - and one panellist makes their stance quite clear: #TonyOut! An entertaining FFA Cup Final (1:11), at least off the field, was also on the agenda, as well as a look at this week's A-Liga men's action (59:15) and, inspired by a certain high school drama being afforded space in a major newspaper, a look at the media landscape surrounding Australian football (1:27:37). Sokkah coverage has never been more open, but there have never been fewer people being paid to provide it. Is that a good thing?

Just a heads up that this will be our last Daily Briefing for the year - more on that at the end of today’s briefing. It’ll be a rematch of last years FFA Cup Final with Adelaide to face Sydney FC after Sydney got over their cross town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers 3 nil last night in the second semi final. We had to wait until the second half to see any goals with Bahagiar breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute. De Jong scored a cracker of a free kick in the 64th minute and Le Fondre wrapped things up from the spot in the 75th minute. Heading overseas and Mat Ryan's Brighton recorded their first Premier League win since August 19 as they overcame West Ham United 1-0. And an under-strength Matildas have suffered a 2-0 defeat against 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup hosts France in an international in Saint Etienne. Missing rested headline names such as Sam Kerr, Alanna Kennedy, Lydia Williams and Emily van Egmond, the Matildas rode their luck at times to avoid a hefty defeat. Australia went into the match having suffered just one loss in the last eight outings, but their rejigged backline was under constant pressure with France dominating possession. As mentioned at the top of the briefing, this will wrap up this season’s coverage - Jake and I are going to take a few months off from both our weekly show and the daily briefing. Thanks for listening, be sure to keep up to date on Facebook and Instagram and we look forward to ramping things back up early next year.
