Lisa Bilyeu welcomes author, relationship counselor, and pastor Toure Roberts for an unfiltered conversation about what it truly means to be a high-value man—and how women can spot genuine green flags instead of falling for toxic cycles. With years of experience counseling couples through the ups and downs of partnership, Toure brings powerful insights into the emotional complexity of men, exploring how childhood, cultural expectations, and a lack of affirmation shape the inner worlds and needs of men in intimate relationships. In part one, Lisa and Toure dismantle popular narratives about neediness, strength, and gender roles, offering both personal stories and practical wisdom. From the long-term pitfalls of viral, drama-driven content to the realities of male vulnerability, they explore what women really need to know about men—and how both partners can participate in building safe, affirming, and deeply connected relationships. If you've ever wondered why men seem to have it all together on the outside, but struggle to open up on the inside, this episode delivers answers that might just shift your whole approach to love. In this episode of The She Said It First Podcast, hosts Jerrilyn Lake aka Indeskribeabull and Lynee’ Monae discuss a variety of topics, but first Lynee’ and Jerrilyn tell the fans What Irritated Them This Week. Lynee’ is irritated that people think they cannot have an opinion about services they paid for. While some people think that they cannot voice their opinions about something they paid for, Jerrilyn and Lynee’ feel more compelled to critic anything they paid for, rather it is services or goods. After Jerrilyn and Lynee’ the people know what irritated them, they spoke about Bishop Marvin Sapp telling the ushers in the church to shut the doors and not to let the congregation out until they raise $40,000. Now, Bishop Sapp has tried to explain himself but Jerrilyn and Lynee’ do not feel that it was sufficient enough of an apology. Lynee’ and Jerrilyn also spoke about rapper YG’s new song, 2004. In the song, YG talks about how he was raped by a woman twice his age. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ talked about how important it is for men to talk about their trauma and how it could influence their relationships. Speaking of men, black men in particular, Toure is upset that black men are not going to college. Toure is saying that the college attendance of black men has dropped over recent years. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ discuss rather if college is the right move for people and black men and women are finding alternatives for their careers. Also, Lynee’ and Jerrilyn spoke about the difference between sex and intimacy and the importance of it in their relationships. This season, the UnCuffed podcast is doing something new. Greg Eskridge, one of the program's founding producers inside San Quentin prison, was released over the summer, after more than 30 years of incarceration. And now, he is our host. Over roughly ten episodes, he'll be telling a deeply personal, riveting story about re-entering society after decades away. It's a story that's rarely if ever told about re-entry – the good, the bad, and everything in between: getting robbed at the mandatory transitional living center within weeks of his release, making amends with family members, revisiting the scene of his crime, and documenting, in real time, as he trains to join the leadership team of the Uncuffed program, which runs classes in three California prisons. [As Kelly put it to me, "he's going to be the boss!"] This ambitious season of the podcast will continue to feature stories of incarcerated producers – including, for the first time ever, incarcerated women. And now, with Greg on the mic, the stories from the inside will connect with the stories from the outside, addressing themes of family, food, and friendship – and tackling newsy subjects like mass incarceration in the so-called model state of California at a time when voters have opted to get tougher on crime. Media and politicians constantly warn about the dangers of firearms. They say too many people have guns. But Black Guns Matters founder Maj Toure says there should be more guns! “Everybody should be walking around and like, oh man, I left my gun in the house. Let me go back and get it,” says Toure. “Everybody?” I ask. “Everybody.” He says that would make America freer and safer, especially in black communities, which he says, have been disproportionately hurt by gun control laws. “All gun control is racist,” says Toure. “It was literally started to stop black people from having the means to defend themselves.” That's why he started his group, Black Guns Matter. He wants to empower his community through firearms education and training. In our full interview, Toure explains more about his organization, why gun control is racist, and how self-defense is essential for freedom.

‘‘I was a very ambitious young girl, I looked at Margaret Thatcher and Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir, and I said well, if they can do it at that level, why not me?'' What and who made you the person you are today? It's a big question and the answer is different for us all. Over the festive period Alan Kasujja will be exploring this subject with people who have gone on to do amazing things in their lives. In the first interview of this special series, Alan speaks to former Senegalese Prime Minister Dr Aminata Toure. As she pursued her education in France and the USA, Aminata was clear in her mind what she wanted to do: champion human and women's rights. Her work on reproductive health in Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and later with the United Nations would help her prepare a set of priorities for when her opportunity would come to serve in the government. But it wasn't all work and she loved football and judo - interests her mother worried would stop her from finding a husband.

In our first segment...In the case of United States v. Combs (24-cr-542), Sean Combs' legal team has formally requested that the court instruct the U.S. Marshals Service to remove his leg shackles before courtroom appearances. They argue that during the October 10, 2024, conference, Combs was unnecessarily shackled, a situation observed by both the press and the public. The defense contends that such restraints are unwarranted and could prejudice public perception. In our second segement...Recent reports suggest that Sean "Diddy" Combs, currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, is receiving notable attention from fellow inmates. Allegations indicate that certain inmates, referred to as "groupies," are vying for his favor, with some reportedly competing to perform tasks such as making his bed. These claims have been highlighted by journalist Toure, who cited an insider's account of Combs' experiences in custody.Additionally, a former inmate of the same facility has corroborated these assertions, describing a 20-man dormitory where inmates are allegedly "jealous" and "fighting" for Combs' attention. These reports provide insight into the dynamics within the detention center, suggesting that Combs' celebrity status may be influencing interactions among inmates. In our third segment..Recent reports indicate that private investigators have approached content creators discussing Sean "Diddy" Combs, aiming to determine if these influencers are being compensated for their coverage. I'll be back with the fallout from the election next week. But until then here's a Halloween Hangover episode of the show that consists of my appearance on Jason Myles' Pop Life. Toure Reed also joined the program. We talked about teen-campers in the woods horror movies from FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP franchises to more obscure titles like THE BURNING, MADMAN, and CHEERLEADER CAMP. Toure gave his thoughts on Joss Wheadon's CABIN IN THE WOODS and its tongue-in-cheek "meta" approach to horror. Realize everyone is burned out from the election, so hopefully this episode will be some type of reprieve.
Introduction: Horror Tropes and the Legacy of "Teens in the Woods" Welcome back to *THIS IS REVOLUTION* where we never apologize for our taste! At TIR, we reject the concept of “guilty pleasures.” Whether it's low-budget films, DIY music, or bootleg swap meet finds—we embrace it all. And if there's one genre that pulls us in, it's horror. Today, we're diving into perhaps the most enduring horror trope: the “teenagers camping in the woods” genre, a setup that begins with ordinary characters and quickly descends into terror and survival. This genre arguably gained its iconic standing with the *Friday the 13th* franchise, where a vengeful, silent figure haunts unsuspecting teens for their “sins” or simply for being there. What began with an act of vengeance in the original *Friday the 13th* became something far darker—a formula that ultimately evolved into a chilling commentary on innocence, power, and punishment. With sequels piling up, Jason Voorhees' motive shifts from vengeance to something closer to a ritualistic bloodlust, a reflection of the franchise's own bloodthirsty popularity. But what do these stories reveal about our society's anxieties and about the "rules" that horror fans know all too well? Films like *The Cabin in the Woods* take this trope further, using it as a meta-commentary on the genre itself—introducing archetypal characters and scenarios as intentionally manipulated constructs, while weaving in a dark critique on our endless hunger for violence as entertainment. Today, we're taking a closer look at these “teen slasher” tropes and what makes this genre so unforgettable. Let's dissect the horror, the satire, and the complex politics of punishment and voyeurism that keep audiences coming back for more. This exploration into horror classics and their archetypal characters isn't just about scares—it's about understanding our collective psyche. The “teens in the woods” trope reveals as much about our cultural anxieties and contradictions as it does about our cinematic tastes. Hunger Strikes Grow More Dire at Red Onion Prison Several Virginia prisoners began a hunger strike on Tuesday, December 26 at Red Onion State Prison, protesting the continued use of long-term solitary confinement at the institution. Despite critical concern, outcry from the public and prisoner populations in the state, incarcerated people are still subjected to this brutal practice which has been renamed “restorative housing” since July 1, 2023 when measures were passed to limit its use in the state. Leading these prisoners in this effort is longtime prison activist, revolutionary writer and artist, Kevin “Rashid” Johnson. Rashid has stated that no one will take any food at all until demands are met. Some of the strike participants have underlying health concerns that make the undertaking of such a demonstration particularly risky. Rashid, himself, is recovering from multiple rounds of radiation to treat prostate cancer as well as suffering from untreated heart disease/congestive heart failure. This is why the public's support is especially needed. We are asking that calls, emails, and letters be sent to the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) officials as well as Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin's office voicing support for the strikers and condemnation for the inhumane use of long-term solitary confinement/restorative housing. PLEASE EVERY DAY THIS WEEK: call and email the following people demanding that the hunger strikers demands be met (end long term solitary confinement) and Rashid receive the medical care he has been denied for months, and that he be transferred immediately. If the latter is not an option, then demand an interstate compact transfer take place immediately. chadwick.dotson@vadoc.virginia.gov 804-674-3081 glenn.youngkin@governor.virginia.gov 804-786-2211 ** Demand that the Governor intervene on Rashid's behalf and that an internal investigation be conducted immediately that would reveal why there were documents removed from his medical jacket and why his referrals to outside medical care were canceled. Joka Jeupe Mkali, AKA Komrade Shine White, who put out this call to action, said "Death is inevitable, but it mustn't be at the hands of some racist dogs. Rashid walks in shoes that cannot be filled, thus we must keep him walking in them as long as possible." Thank you for all you do to help prison rebels keep walking!
