Ce au discutat delegațiile ucraineană și americană la Geneva, pornind de la planul inițial de pace în Ucraina, propus de Statele Unite ale Americii, care prevedea, între altele, cedări teritoriale din partea Kievului, inclusiv ale unor zone controlate încă de Ucraina, diminuarea forțelor armate și angajamentul Ucrainei că nu va adera la NATO? Ce urmează pentru Ucraina? L-am întrebat pe istoricul Cosmin Popa.Cosmin Popa: „Putem spune că în momentul de față, deși vom continua să vorbim despre planul american, din acest plan american nu va mai rămîne mare lucru după negocierile de la Geneva și cele care vor urma, deci va fi un plan foarte mult schimbat. Rusia crede, în frunte cu Putin, că se află într-un moment militar extrem de favorabil, nici nu are importanță că avansul militar din scriptele oficiale rusești rareori este același cu cel care se înregistrează pe teren. Acest lucru s-a întîmplat și în prima parte a războiului – pentru Rusia este mai puțin importantă realitatea, dar este foarte importantă impresia pe care o degajă performanțele militare rusești. Ceea ce ne face să credem că această nouă variantă a planului, care ar avea și o susținere directă europeană și o susținere indirectă ucraineană, va fi respinsă de către Putin în măsura în care el nu va primi ceea ce își dorește și anume capitularea și fundamentarea serioasă a următoarei invazii împotriva Ucrainei și, de ce nu, și a Europei Centrale și de Sud-Est. Dar în aceste condiții, totuși, nu văd nicio preocupare nici la Washington și, din păcate, nici în capitalele europene sau la Bruxelles pentru gîndirea unei formule de pace care să contabilizeze foarte multe dintre evoluțiile deja petrecute pe teren și nici pentru gîndirea unor scenarii care să pornească de la cel mai pesimist pînă la cel mai optimist, astfel încît să știm exact cum salvăm Ucraina și, prin asta, și securitatea europeană.”Cum ar putea arăta în termeni concreți un armistițiu acceptabil pentru ambele părți? Cosmin Popa: „Dacă vorbim despre armistițiu, cum bine spuneți, acest armistițiu trebuie să pună accent pe încetarea focului, pe schimbul de prizonieri, pe trimiterea (înapoi în Ucraina) a copiilor ucraineni răpiți, deci pe chestiunile umanitare care să readucă acest război în cîmpul regulilor internaționale ale războiului. (...) Dar cred că partea cea mai importantă a unei păci acceptabile pentru Ucraina pleacă de la următoarea premisă esențială: specificarea limpede a modului, a etapelor și a momentului în care asupra Ucrainei independente, oricare ar fi configurația ei teritorială, rezultată în urma acestei păci, se vor extinde garanțiile de securitate occidentale.” Nu există riscul ca Ucraina să fie împinsă către un acord dezavantajos din cauza ezitărilor europene, din cauza incapacității Occidentului de a oferi bani, arme, muniții? Cosmin Popa: „Mi se pare că Occidentul, că Europa unită, că țările occidentale ezită, poate, mult mai puțin decît au făcut-o în trecut în legătură cu sprijinul militar, politic şi economic pe care îl acordă Ucrainei. Europa este decisă să reziste, să pună pe agenda politică a celorlalte mari puteri cerințele politice și geopolitice legate de această pace, pentru că știe foarte exact că miza aflată pe masa negociatorilor păcii în Ucraina cuprinde și viitorul proiectul european. This book discusses hagiographic, historiographical, hymnological, and theological sources that contributed to the formation of the sacred picture of the physical as well as metaphysical Jerusalem in the literature of two Eastern Christian denominations, East and West Syrians. Popa analyses the question of Syrian beliefs about the Holy City, their interaction with holy places, and how they travelled in the Holy Land. He also explores how they imagined and reflected the theology of this itinerary through literature in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, set alongside a well-defined local tradition that was at times at odds with Jerusalem. Even though the image of Jerusalem as a land of sacred spaces is unanimously accepted in the history of Christianity, there were also various competing positions and attitudes. This often promoted the attempt at mitigating and replacing Jerusalem's sacred centrality to the Christian experience with local sacred heritage, which is also explored in this study. Popa argues that despite this rhetoric of artificial boundaries, the general picture epitomises a fluid and animated intersection of Syriac Christians with the Holy City especially in the medieval era and the subsequent period, through a standardised process of pilgrimage, well-integrated in the custom of advanced Christian life and monastic canon. The Making of Syriac Jerusalem (Routledge, 2023) is suitable for students and scholars working on the history, literature, and theology of Syriac Christianity in the late antique and medieval periods. Catalin-Stefan Popa is Research Professor in Church History at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest. He holds his Ph.D. from Georg August University of Göttingen, Germany (2016). In 2021 he received the venia legendi (habilitation) at Karl Franzens University of Graz, Austria. He published articles, and edited volumes on Syriac and Oriental ecclesiastical history, exegesis, and literature, including the monograph Gīwargīs I. (660–680).
