We want this to change.‘Be Part of the Change' aims to celebrate the incredible success stories of our under-represented students, apprentices and alumni, as well as highlighting their challenges. It's also an opportunity to highlight the positive practices our employers are actioning within their organisations to inspire other companies in their approach. The tenth episode of the Be Part of the Change podcast has been released in April to mark Autism Awareness Month - a global month of events to increase understanding and acceptance of autism and celebrate the success and achievements of autistic individuals. In this episode, Lydia Williams, Disability Advisor at the University, is joined by Rosie Hart, Group ESG Lead at Cast Group. Yvette's interview with Paul Jacques Keene and Lydia Williams, son and daughter of Philadelphia born artist, Paul Farwell Keene Jr. encourages investment in African American artist. Paul Farwell Keene, Jr. (1920-2009) was an artist and an American icon in the tradition of the African American community. His art pulsates with vibrancy and with color explosion to depict his view of urban life, and his art functions as an outward expression of the genius of his inner world. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he began his art study and later studied at the Académie Julien in Paris, France. In Paris, he was nourished by the jazz music scene as well as the camaraderie of American expatriates. His work began to reflect this new urban setting, and his many paintings of street and jazz musicians have been shown around the world. Most recently, Paul Keene's work is on exhibition at the Pompidou Museum in Paris from March to June, 2025. The exhibition, “Paris Noir,” traces 50 years of artistic expression in Paris of the work of African American, African, and Carribbean artists and explores the history of the civil rights movement in the United States, African independence and the fight for equality in France at the end of the 20th century.
Lydia is not sure whether she is the best at any sport. But she tries her best.

At the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, goalkeeper Lydia Williams, alongside teammate Claire Polkinghorne, became the first Australian footballer (man or woman) to play at FIVE FIFA World Cups. Lydia is a proud Noongar woman who was born in Katanning, WA, but lived most of her childhood years in Kalgoorlie, a small town north-east of Perth. In 2022, she became the first female goalkeeper to register 100 caps for Australia, and just the second Indigenous player to do so after Kyah Simon a few months earlier. On top of an incredible Matildas' resume, she's had an extensive career overseas, with clubs including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. I absolutely loved the chance to sit down and chat with Lydia, she's really calm and composed, and reflects beautifully not only on her career to date, but on the legacy she hopes to leave, in particular for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids. Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams joins Adam Peacock in this special episode to tell her story in football. The product of an amazing love story between an Indigenous man from the Stolen Generation and American mother who gave up life on Wall St, Lydia went from chasing a footy around in remote WA - and looking after pet kangaroos - to playing in 4 World Cups for the Matildas in an era in which women's football has grown so much.Lydia discusses her background, how football helped her through dark moments growing up, and a perspective on what is going on in the world with not only Indigenous issues here in Australia but also the mass protests in America. And, of course, Lydia chats about the possibility of playing a 5th World Cup on home soil in 2023.FULL RUNDOWN2.30 Waiting out the pandemic at home3.30 World Cup 2023 bid chat6.30 What the women's World Cup has become; Lydia has been to four.10.00 Adjusting to the new era of professionalism and hype with the Matildas12.00 The current crop of Matildas, all aiming for 202314.00 Lydia's old jobs; physio, at the AIS and at the zoo!17.00 Her two pet kangaroos 19.00 Lydia's parents, their amazing love story21.30 Growing up in the desert, kicking a footy, learning about her heritage23.00 Being as one with the land24.30 Encouraging that Indigenous history and issues are now part of education25.30 When football became a part of her existence29.00 How football has opened up the world29.30 Writing her children's book "Saved"31.30 Back to her parents love story - their honeymoon with a difference33.00 Lydia's take on protests and the conversation both in Australia and America37.00 Experiencing racism growing up41.15 Losing her father at 15, what football gave her at the time44.00 The current group of Matildas and their diverse backgrounds, how close they are49.00 Nearly going to Wuhan in January!50.30 The really busy time coming up after this break52.00 Lydia's hope for the immediate future around current social issues

Last season, goalkeeper Michelle Betos returned to Reign FC. She was with the team for the inaugural season in 2013 but then spent time at four different clubs before coming back in 2018. This season, she made 4 appearances and was pretty much entrenched as the starter while Lydia Williams was off at the World Cup. Then on May 18, her season came to an abrupt and tragic end as she ruptured her Achilles tendon. It's very much a career-altering injury but Betos is determined to not let it outright end her career. And on this episode of the podcast, she gives an update on her road to recovery, her thoughts on the state of the club as they begin the second half of the campaign, and more. Just a heads up that this will be our last Daily Briefing for the year - more on that at the end of today’s briefing. It’ll be a rematch of last years FFA Cup Final with Adelaide to face Sydney FC after Sydney got over their cross town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers 3 nil last night in the second semi final. We had to wait until the second half to see any goals with Bahagiar breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute. De Jong scored a cracker of a free kick in the 64th minute and Le Fondre wrapped things up from the spot in the 75th minute. Heading overseas and Mat Ryan's Brighton recorded their first Premier League win since August 19 as they overcame West Ham United 1-0. And an under-strength Matildas have suffered a 2-0 defeat against 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup hosts France in an international in Saint Etienne. Missing rested headline names such as Sam Kerr, Alanna Kennedy, Lydia Williams and Emily van Egmond, the Matildas rode their luck at times to avoid a hefty defeat. Australia went into the match having suffered just one loss in the last eight outings, but their rejigged backline was under constant pressure with France dominating possession. As mentioned at the top of the briefing, this will wrap up this season’s coverage - Jake and I are going to take a few months off from both our weekly show and the daily briefing. Thanks for listening, be sure to keep up to date on Facebook and Instagram and we look forward to ramping things back up early next year.

One of the sides keen to get their 2015 World Cup under way is Australia and we head into their camp to speak with a couple of their stars as they prepare to face the US on Monday. Midfielder Katrina Gorry is first up and then we get find out a bit more about the girls as goalkeeper Lydia Williams brings us an Australian women's national team "Teammates". And there's still time to talk artificial football turf pitches with Dan Hardman of the tournament's NOC and Niall MacPhee of Sports Labs, and goal-line technology with Hawk-Eye's Laurence Upshon. We told you it was a busy show, so have a listen!
