IN THIS MESSAGE JONATHON EDWARDS MAKES IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT THE NEW CREATION IS NOT A TWEAKED NATURAL MAN , BUT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CREATURE WITH ITS OWN SET OF UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS: JUST AS A DOG AND CAT HAVE SOME SIMILARITIES, BOTH HAVE PAWS AND FUR, YET COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CREATURES, WITH DIFFERENT IMBRED ABILITIES, PERSONALITIES, & MANY OTHER DISTINGUISHABLE PECULIARITIES, & SUBTLETIES: UNDER THE HOOD THEY ARE DISTINCT CREATURES, POLES APART, AND LIKEWISE ARE WE AS TWEAKED NATURAL MAN AMERICANS, ARE POLES APRT FROM WE WHO ARE SPIRITUAL NEW CREATIONS. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? WE AS AMERICANS MUST COME TO REALIZE THAT SATAN IS THE ULTIMATE COUNTERFEITER, OFFERING US TO BE A TWEAKED NATURAL MAN BY OFFERING US A FASTFOOD FREEWILL JESUS, WHO MAY HELP US PULL OUT OF THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD, BUT SATAN WANTS US IGNORANT OF THE FACT THAT THERE IS A BONDAGE OF THE WILL JESUS, IN WHICH WE MUST WAIT ON OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN TO REVEAL THE TRUE JESUS TO US, WHEREIN WE ARE NOW MADE A NEW AMERICAN SPIRITUAL MAN WHICH UNDER THE HOOD HAS CHARACTERS 100% DISTINGUISHABLE FROM OUR NATURAL MAN CHARACTERISTICS. LET US TAKE A FEW EXCEPTS FROM JONATHON EDWARDS SERMON:The SPIRIT of GOD acts in a VERY DIFFERENT manner in the one case from what he doth in the other. He may indeed act upon the mind of a natural man, BUT he acts in the mind of a SAINT as an INDWELLING VITAL PRINCIPAL. He ACTS upon the mind of an UNREGENERATE person as an EXTRINSIC , OCCASIONAL AGENT; for in acting upon them, he doth NOT UNITE himself to them; notwithstanding all his influences that they may be the subjects of, they are still sensual, having not the Spirit, Jude 19. But he unites himself with the mind of a saint, takes him for his temple, actuates and influences him as a new, supernatural principle of life and action. There is this difference, that the Spirit of God, in acting in the soul of a godly man, exerts and communicates himself there in his own proper nature. Holiness is the proper nature of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit operates in the minds of the godly by uniting himself to them, and living in them, and exerting his own nature in the exercise of their faculties. The Spirit of God may act upon a creature, and yet not in acting communicate himself. The Spirit of God may act upon inanimate creatures; as the Spirit moved upon the face of the waters in the beginning of the creation;[Pg 26] so the Spirit of God may act upon the minds of men many ways, and communicate himself no more than when he acts upon an inanimate creature. For instance, he may excite thoughts in them, may assist their natural reason and understanding, or may assist other natural principles, and this without any union with the soul, but may act, as it were, as upon an external object. But as he acts in his holy influences and spiritual operations, he acts in a way of peculiar communication of himself; so that the subject is thence denominated spiritual. This spiritual light primarily consists in the former of these, viz., a real sense and apprehension of the divine excellency of things revealed in the word of God. A spiritual and saving conviction of the truth and reality of these things arises from such a sight of their divine excellency and glory; This light, and this only, has its fruit in an universal holiness of life. No merely notional or speculative understanding of the doctrines of religion will ever bring to this. But this light, as it reaches the bottom of the heart, and changes the nature, so it will effectually dispose to an universal obedience. It shows God's worthiness to be obeyed and served. It draws forth the heart in a sincere love to God, which is the only principle of a true, gracious and universal obedience. And it convinces of the reality of those glorious rewards that God has promised to them that obey him.

What is a non-sequitur?  From Merriam-Webbster we see that … Definition of non sequitur 1: an inference (see INFERENCE sense 1) that does not follow from the premises (see PREMISE entry 1 sense 1) specifically : a fallacy resulting from a simple conversion of a universal affirmative (see AFFIRMATIVE entry 1 sense 3) proposition or from the transposition of a condition and its consequent (see CONSEQUENT entry 1 sense 1) 2: a statement (such as a response) that does not follow logically from or is not clearly related to anything previously said Here's an example.  If someone asks what it's like outside and you reply, "It's 2:00," you've just used a non sequitur; you made a statement that does not follow what was being discussed.  Shown below are five more simple examples. My refrigerator is acting up. I'd better finish that book by Friday. I read about a pitbull attack. Our neighbor owns a pitbull. My life is in danger. It's time to take my car in for service. I wonder if my stylist is available this Saturday. I had a crazy music teacher in elementary school. All music teachers are crazy. When it's sunny, I see my neighbor walking his dog. He must only walk the dog when the sun is out. It is clear that one statement does not follow logically into the second.  It also seems that in Genesis 22:20-24 we have a non-sequitur.  Why after studying the awesome events of God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, the child of promise, do we get this? Now it came about after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel." Bethuel became the father of Rebekah; these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.  (Gen 22:20-24)   This seems so out of place.  It seems like it doesn't belong, it doesn't follow.  Why does the Lord inspire Moses to put this in in this place?  It's like a non-sequitur.  Or is it?  Remember, this is God's word.  Something is up.  In this lesson will attempt to understand why these verses are put in here.  The suggestions are powerful. We will then turn our attention to Genesis 23.  One thing we will focus on is the geography of Israel.  Look at the map below. (Map is royalty free at Wikimedia) Abraham was about 30 miles away from Sarah when Sarah died.  Huh?  This means they were not living together as married couple.  This escapes most of us since we are so cutoff from understanding the geography of the Middle East as it relates to the Bible events.  The geography tells us something.  We missed it.  There's more to the events that preceded Sarah's death.  There's more we missed that adds to a deeper understanding of the word of the Lord.  Lastly, we will focus on Abraham and his reliance, his dependency, his trust, or, one might say, his faith in God and that what God promised and what God said is true.  Abraham's worldview is a total trust and reliance on the Lord.  What's interesting is Abraham doesn't just sit there and not do anything.  Abraham knows the promises of God and HE DOESN'T JUST SIT THERE, HE ACTS!!  He acts in such a way that his actions show that he relies on the promises of the Lord and they are true even though not seen.  This is the type of "father" we have as Paul teaches about us in Gal. 3:7.  We are part of the family.  He's our daddy.  We should live and be believers who have the same faith, the same worldview of Abraham.  So, Christian, don't just sit there, do something!! January 25 He Acts on Honest Confession He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; he will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. (Job 33:27-28)  This is a word of truth, gathered from the experience of a man of God, and it is tantamount to a promise. What the Lord has done, and is doing, He will continue to do while the world standeth. The Lord will receive into His bosom all who come to Him with a sincere confession of their sin; in fact, He is always on the lookout to discover any that are in trouble because of their faults. Can we not endorse the language here used? Have we not sinned, sinned personally so as to say, "I have sinned"? Sinned willfully, having perverted that which is right? Sinned so as to discover that there is no profit in it but an eternal loss? Let us, then, go to God with this honest acknowledgment. He asks no more. We can do no less. Let us plead His promise in the name of Jesus. He will deliver us from the pit of hell which yawns for us; He will grant us life and light. Why should we despair? Why should we even doubt? The Lord does not mock humble souls. He means what He says. The guilty can be forgiven. Those who deserve execution can receive free pardon. Lord, we confess, and we pray Thee to forgive!
