EXODUS LESSON 73 PART 2 I strongly urge you to listen to Lesson 73 part 1 before listening to part 2.  You'll see how important it is to make sure you do this to get a better understanding of the questions and issues in these verses.  Here's the link for part 1 - https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/exodus-73-part-1-exod-3210-18-god-cant-change-his-mind/ One major problem we'll deal with is the way the translators of the New American Standard Bible 1995 translated the Hebrew in Exod. 32:14 to come up with the phrase, “God changed His mind.”  In part 1 it is so clear that God does not change and never changes His mind.  This is a major issue and one wonders how this could've happened since again and again the very words of God show the truth that God does not change and never changes His mind.  Below check out the chart.  You'll see that the NASB is the only Bible version that uses the phrase “God changed His mind.” The King James (KJV) and the Amplified Bible (AMP) and the Jewish Publication Society (JPS) translations are probably the most accurate.  The Lord repented or turned away from one thing to turn to another.  Repent in Hebrew comes from the Hebrew verb LaShuv לָשׁוּב meaning to turn around or to go back.  The Strong's number H7725.  It is the verb that forms the Hebrew word for repentance of Teshuvah תְּשׁוּבָה.  It is not just connected to doing repentance from sin.  It could be one wants to give up smoking.  So one would turn from smoking and to turn to something else.  In other words one is doing Teshuvah תְּשׁוּבָה from smoking.  That is how the Bible uses the word and not just related to sin.  Thus, God is turning from one thing to do another.  I wrote an article on trying to get at this in a more understandable way.  Here's the article below. Exodus 32:14 So the LORD changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people. (Exo 32:14) Malachi 3:6 "For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed." (Mal 3:6) Which is it? If God does not change then how did Moses have God change His mind and yet God says He will not.  This is not like God.  This is nuts.  I thought the Bible was in full agreement!!  Can this be explained?? Also, one reads in the very words of God that certain people will be restricted from the Assembly of God.  Deu 23:1-8  "No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD.  (2)  "No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of the LORD; none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall enter the assembly of the LORD.  (3)  "No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of the LORD; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the LORD,  (4)  because they did not meet you with food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.  (5)  "Nevertheless, the LORD your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the LORD your God loves you.  (6)  "You shall never seek their peace or their prosperity all your days.  (7)  "You shall not detest an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not detest an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land.  (8)  "The sons of the third generation who are born to them may enter the assembly of the LORD. It says that all Moabites are so restricted and yet Ruth gets in.  Why?  How?  (Listen to part 1 carefully regarding the Moabites.  No Moabite will be allowed in to the Assembly of Israel up to an including the 10th generation by God's own words.  Wait till you see how Ruth is probably of the 11th generation when one studies the Bible in its historical context.  So, she can get in and she did!) It says that a MUMZER will not enter and Timothy is a mumzer - his mom was Jewish and his dad a pagan (Hebrew for one of illegitimate birth)!!  Timothy!!  He became a leader of the assembly of Messiah in Ephesus.  We say as Gentiles we are grafted in but the Torah says NO!!  God says it loud and clear.  What is going on?  How can both be true?  Oh sure. One is the church and one is the synagogue.  Right??  It can't be.  This is a conundrum!!  Let's check the Hebrew of Exod. 32:14 and Mal. 3:6. Exo 32:14  וינחם H5162  יהוה H3068  על H5921  הרעה H7451  אשׁר H834  דבר H1696  לעשׂות H6213  לעמו׃ H5971  Mal 3:6  כי H3588  אני H589  יהוה H3068  לא H3808  שׁניתי H8138  ואתם H859  בני  H1121  יעקב  H3290  לא H3808  כליתם׃ H3615  In English we are reading the word “change” (as to change one's mind in Ex 32:14 - word # 5162) and change (as to someone not changing as in Mal 3:6 - word #8138).  In Exod 32:14 God "racham's" - it does NOT say He changes His mind!!  The word racham is the word that is translated as "He changed His mind."  That phrase is not even there.  A better way to say this is that God repents; God turns from one thing to another.  He REPENTS.  Moses did NOT change HIS mind.  What happened is God has set in place either punishment or a curse on those who are unrighteous.  That is His intention.  However,  equally part of HIS intention is God's other option to forgive and erase the punishment if there is true repentance.  Both options exist for God.  It is one or the other - this is His simultaneous intention and purpose.  Moses intervened for Israel and God did not change His mind.  He can't.  What God did was to turn, to repent, and allowed the other option.  Both options are in play, both are His intentions.  God has laid out those two options as part of His intentions.  Thus, He did not change at all. In Mal 3:6 the word is "shanaw."  This has the picture of "folding" one side on another.  It has the implication of duplicating.  God stays constant.  He is ONE and will remain ONE.  He is the Lord and HE does not go from one intention to another.  Like with Moses God had either punishment or forgiveness.  Both exist at once as God's intentions.  In the case of sin this is God - both exist.  He will turn from one to the other, from punishment to forgiveness if there is true teshuvah, repentance from the sin, and will not do option 1 but option 2.  God is like that.  He is always like that.  God has it all covered and these options are already in place with HIM as His intentions.  He will not do anything that is not already a part of HIMSELF.  Thus, we study Torah to know HIM deeply and intimately and to begin to understand His ways.     Finally, Moses was the greatest prophet of the Hebrew Scriptures (Deut. 34:10).  God tells Moses the following … “I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.” (Deu 18:18) This is the Lord's prediction of the future coming of His Son, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah.  So, Jesus is a prophet like Moses; for us as disciples of Jesus we'd say Jesus is the Greatest Prophet ever.  But, we are to be disciples of Jesus or talmidim תַּלְמִידִים.  A talmid is one who is a student of a rabbi and who lives to be like his rabbi.  Check out the article entitled "Rabbi and Talmidim" at this link ... https://www.thattheworldmayknow.com/rabbi-and-talmidim Jesus says this quite clearly … “A pupil (from the Greek to the Hebrew is TALMID) is not above his teacher (from the Greek to the Hebrew is RAV or master. We say RABBI); but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.” (Luk 6:40)   Thus, if we are real talmidim we are to be like Jesus.  He was given the words of His Father to proclaim and thus Jesus is a prophet.  But we are given the words of Jesus to go and proclaim.  So, we are prophets as well in that Jesus sends us to bring the word to the Ends of the Earth.  And as Moses offers prayers of intercession for Israel so Jesus offers prayers of intercession for His talmidim and the church, His Bride.  Thus, if we are truly living to be a true disciple then we to must be ones who offer prayers of intercession for the ones we meet as well.  We are to be like Him and follow Paul's teaching when he taught that we are to be like Paul since he is like his master, his RAV, Jesus (1Cor. 11:1). EXODUS LESSON 73 PART 1 In lesson 73 part one and part two we tackle the question, "Does God change His mind?"  As we study Exod. 32:10-18 it is clear the answer to this question is critical.  Also, Moses asks the Lord to not destroy the Hebrews.  It seems as if Moses intercessory request affects the Lord and He "changes His mind."  Or does He?   In this lesson I mention the fact that a generation in the days of Abraham and Moses and Joshua and David and most of the Old Testament is roughly 30 years.  It is not my opinion and here's a link (see below) to to support the 30 year generation.  There are many other scholarly sites that also support a 30 year generation in the Old Testament.  This is critical as we study the days of Ruth.  God said no Moabites were allowed to join the congregation of Israel.  But, Ruth, a Moabite, gets in.  Did God change His mind?  You'll see how a 30 year generation is related to help us understand this dilemma.   Link - GotQuestions.org - https://www.gotquestions.org/generation-in-the-Bible.html Another event in the Bible is the sickness of Hezekiah.   Hezekiah asked the Lord to give him more days to live.  God answered his prayer.  So, God must've changed His mind, right?  Related to this is the link below.  It discusses the question that for God's chosen, for God's elect, His people, disciples of Yeshua, that God fixes the day of our death.  Really? This is another awesome example of scripture that testifies of Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah, Jesus the Christ.  We will study the event of the Golden Calf and God will teach us in His TORAH, His instructions, that He had a plan for Israel.  He had an awesome purpose for His treasured possession (Exod. 19:5)  It all relates to John 3:16 and the love the Lord has for all, the whole world.  But, the Hebrews failed and chose another god, a god of gold, a bull calf.  They didn't give up on the one true God, they just disobeyed Him in making an animal to represent the one God, the only God, יהוה Yahvay (I pronounce His name Yahvay and not Yahway since  Hebrew has no W sound so it is an error to say Yahway for His name).  Yahvay put this in His Ten Statements, His Ten Commandments, that we are not to make an image to represent the Lord.  The Hebrews  did.  And they did not follow His commands and went their own way. Once again, I brought up the likelihood that the Hebrews had assimilated into the Egyptian culture.  The Hebrews cried out in Exod. 2:23.  But, it is more than cried out.  The Hebrew word is za'aka זעק H2199 which is shriek or scream in deep anguish or terror.  On top of that the Hebrews cried out to no one!  In Exod. 2:23 they cried out - to who?  God heard them but they did not cry out, shriek in deep pain, to the Lord.  Later, at the sea before they crossed over, one they were reintroduced to the God of Abraham, we read in Exod. 14:10 that Israel cried out TO THE LORD.  We miss that.  We think they cried out to the Lord in Exod. 2:23.  That is putting words in the Bible that aren't there.  They didn't know the God of their fathers anymore.  What happened?  What's going on?  The answer - they had assimilated into the Egyptian culture.  The Bible proves it yet we missed it.  All they knew were the gods of Egypt.  It is easy to get Israel out of Egypt but it is nigh impossible to get Egypt out of Israel.   The Hebrews after hundreds of years were deeply imbedded into the Egyptian culture and ways.  Here's the link to study that the Hebrews assimilated into Egypt – https://halakhaoftheday.org/2023/03/29/from-propsperty-to-assimilationn/ Here' a link to lesson 4 part 2 in this series where we study this idea.  It is seemingly proven from the very word of God.  Here's the link - https://youtu.be/9tY5N0mAJ2I?si=BQ2ID2W8eVXZT1xb I did an “AI” search (artificial intelligence) of the Apis Bull in ancient Egypt.  I came up with the following.  I know a lot about the Apis Bull from my days traveling and doing research in Egypt plus my own personal study.  The “AI” material is right on.  So here it is in its entirety.  I do this just in case you want to expand your study to learn more about the Apis Bull and ancient Egypt. Aaron may not have participated in the worship of the Golden Bull Calf, but he made the molten image and thus got all Israel to sin grievously against the Lord.  That Aaron was found guilty is clear in the very words of God Himself and God wanted to destroy all Israel and AARON!!  "The LORD spoke further to me, saying, 'I have seen this people, and indeed, it is a stubborn people. 'Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.' (Exo 32:8) What is God's WAY that He wanted the Hebrews to follow?  The Hebrew word for the word WAY is derekh (דֶּרֶךְ).  It is the word used in Genesis 3 when the Lord shows the WAY back to the Garden was closed and guarded by two mighty Khrooveem (not cherubs).  The WAY to the Father was blocked.  Now in Exodus 32 God talks about His WAY, His derekh (דֶּרֶךְ) He wants the Hebrews to follow.  Later, the Lord comes to us and He says in John 14 that, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (Joh 14:6)  So, what might he Lord be getting at?  What is the lesson?   I suggest it seems to be summed up in the first verses of Psalm 119. How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the law of the LORD. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart. They also do no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways. You have ordained Your precepts, That we should keep them diligently. Oh that my ways may be established To keep Your statutes!   (Psa 119:1-6) In TORAH the Lord gives us His intruction to live as His people, His chosen ones.  We are to liv in such a way that our lives show we are lovng the Lord God and serving Him by living as per His word, the Written Word.  But then He came to us.  Yeshua.  He is the Living Word.  In John 14 we read that Yeshua says if we are His true disciples He is in us and we in Him.  We abide together.  And as true branches of the "true vine" that is Yeshua we are to be fruitful so that our work in Yeshua keeps until the final harvest of the Vinedresser, the Father, and show ourselves to be His disciples.  We live to be His People of THE WAY,  derekh (דֶּרֶךְ). Exodus Lesson 71 Part 2 In Exod. 31:13 it says … “But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.” (Exo 31:13) The word BUT is the Hebrew word ACH (אַךְ H389) meaning “never the less, or none the less, or but, or surely and more.  It is as if God is saying “What came before is very important but what comes now is even more important that all that has come before, so, Moses, speak to the sons of Israel … “  The Sabbath, the Lord's Sabbath, His Shabbat in Hebrew is  more important than all that has come before.  More important than all the instruction and all the detail about God's Tabernacle and the dress of the High Priest and the Priests starting in chapter 25.  More important that the induction ceremony of the Aaron and his sons.  It seems God is saying it is more important than when Moses first went up Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments.  He's been there since and in v. 18 he gets the two tablets from the Lord and this ends his stay of 40 days and nights on Sinai.  It seems that the Shabbat is more important than everything back to chapter 20!  That was when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Covenant.  Shabbat is bigger than all this.  On our YouTube channel I have a “playlist” series I did on the Lord's Shabbat, or the Sabbath.  It is incumbent on us, true disciples of Messiah, to know about Jesus' Shabbat, God's Shabbat.  We'll find that it is the most important of the Lord's feasts.  LINK to the Shabbat playlist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05bc07ssllo&list=PLvcIXun2BQDLshZetXi0avkG665YNcI5I And now here in Exod. 31:12-18 we see the Shabbat is called a SIGN (אוֹת – “oat”) and it is called the covenant of Shabbat.  It is given to man and not man given to shabbat.  But the Hebrews are the Bride.  Just like in a contemporary religious Jewish wedding, only the bride gets a ring.  So, only the bride gets the Shabbat, God's ring, the sign or אוֹת – “oat” of the covenant.  But Jesus is our Bridegroom, our future “husband” and He asked us to keep His commandments and the greatest feast of the Lord is the Sabbath of THE SHABBAT.  And Jesus said do it to show me our love!  (Joh 14:15)  "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”  The shabbat is like our ring as we are betrothed to our Bridegroom, our Yeshua, our Jesus.  We do His Sabbath to tell Him we love Him and to use it as a testimony to the world of God and His Salvation.  How dare us say we can Shabbat on any day we want.  It is NOT about onl rest.  It is about the Lord's Shabbat to testify He is and He is the creator of the universe and He brings His salvation to all of us both Jew and Gentile.  We do Shabbat on God's designated day to testify of Him. Exodus Lesson 71 Part 1 In Hebrew Genesis 2:3 has a unique Hebrew grammatical construction only found here in chapter 2 verse 3.  The Hebrew translated direct from the Hebrew is that “God ceased from creating all his work that God created TO DO.”  This seems to suggest that the Lord stopped creating work to be accomplished in the future work.  Hebrew scholars such as Ibn Ezra (1092-1167 A.D.) and Radak (1160-1235 A.D.), noted that the Hebrew phrase that God created a world that was complete in its foundation but designed to have its full potential realized through time, partly through the stewardship of humanity. In other words it seems possible that God has created work for the future for Himself, His people like Moses, David, Isaiah, and of course Jesus and US!!  It is a very interesting valid alternative translation of Gen. 2:3.  (See “JPS Torah Commentary: Genesis.  Nahum Sarna.  © 1989.  The Jewish Publication Society.  Jerusalem, Philadelphia, and New York) Ask many Christians today how they are saved and they would tell you they are saved by GRACE and not by WORKS.  They are right.  This is the very words of God found in Eph. 2:8-9.  But, what we miss is this is a Jewish concept and understood quite clearly among religious Jews in Jesus' day.  Consider the Hebrew words Chen (grace/favor) and Chesed (lovingkindness) which represent God's unmerited favor and mercy shown to individuals and the nation, rather than just earning salvation through works. Hebrew Origins: The concept of grace (chen - found 69 times in the Tanakh) emphasizes God's unmerited favor, such as when Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Grace is then connected to Torah often expressed in Judaism as "saved by grace, led by Torah," or God's instruction and not law.  It is seen as a gift that frees individuals to walk in God's ways out of love, not just for merit.  Here's a number of websites to check it out and go deeper in your understanding and study. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/2013/05/21/rescuing-grace/ https://hoshanarabbah.org/blog/2016/02/26/concept-of-grace/ https://free.messianicbible.com/feature/grace-enough/ In this podcast we will study Eph. 2:10.  The verse that most Christians forget.  They stop at verse 9 when they quote Eph. 2:8-9.  They tell us that works don't matter.  But, they do not read THE VERY WORDS OF GOD in verse 10.  We are sved by grace not by works to then become God's workmanship to do good WORKS!!  Thus, the Lord is telling us, the mark of a true Christian is once they are saved they do work given to them by the Father.  Works God created for us in Gen. 2:3.   Many of our Bibles say that Jesus was a carpenter as we find in Matt. 16:18 or Mark 6:3.  But, few study the Greek word that carpenter translates.  I never heard on pastor teach on this.  Not one.  The Greek word is TEKTON. It is a broad term for a craftsman, artisan, or builder, often used specifically for a woodworker or carpenter. Tekton refers to a skilled worker who constructs with various materials, including wood and stone.  Shown below are a few websites to check this out https://biblehub.com/greek/5045.htm https://www.billmounce.com/greek-dictionary/tekton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekt%C5%8Dn This Greek word tekton in the Septuagint translates the Hebrew word CHARASH חָרָשׁ H2796.  The meaning in Hebrew is artisan or craftsman whose trained hands shape wood, stone, metal, or precious gems or any material.  Thus, since there was NO New Testament in Jesus'day, only the Hebrew Scriptures, we can confidently say Jesus was not only a carpenter but construction worker.   And as B'zal'el and Oholee-av were to lead a group of CHRASHEEM to build God's Dwelling Place, our Jesus, who is a CHRASH, will build His congregation.  And this congregation will be like ONE TEMPLE, one place where God dwells.  I can't make this up.  The connections are too awesome. These two words in the podcast, TEKTON and CHARASH, were related to the Hebrew phrase tikkun olam (pronounced taykoon olam) תיקון עולם originating in the Mishnah meaning “to fix everything.”  Reform Judaism states that tikkun olam has evolved from a purely spiritual, concept into a mandate for social action, social justice, and environmentalism.  Dennis Prager, a famous conservative talk show host and scholar, who is also a deeply religious Jew, feels that tikkun oal as social justice shows why so many American Jews are democrats.  Some other modern Jewish interpretations suggest that in the absence of a single, personal Messiah, humanity itself (as a collective) is responsible for being the "Messiah" by performing acts of kindness to heal the world.  This results in the general concept in contemporary Judaism that repairing the world is ONLY through human effort to usher in a future Messianic era.  This clearly is not the view in Christianity.  Christians hold to the fact that the Messiah (Jesus) has come to begin this restoration, with a future return for a final, complete, restoration and renewal of the entire universe. The Christian view seems to be more correct.  The phrase tikkun olam appears in the Jewish prayer in the 2nd paragraph called Ahlaynoo עָלֵינוּ – meaning it is against us, on us, or incumbent on us.  This prayer may have been written in Jesus' day.  It first appears in the Mishnah is the 3rd century A.D.  Clearly, the prayer says God will fix everything and perfect the world.  Today in religious Jews seemed to have abandoned the idea that God does tikkun olam.  This is clear in the prayer and in the Hebrew Scriptures. EXODUS LESSON 70 PART TWO If you haven't watched part one, make sure you do.  Can't watch part two unless you have watched part one.  Here's the link to part one ... LINK - https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/exodus-70-exodus-301-38-part-one-the-altar-of-incense-and-the-bronze-lavar/   We're at Exodus chapter 30 and once again we find another example of verses in God's word that we might read once and never again.  It seems like the detail has no transferable meaning for us now, today, and our walk with the Lord.  So we "read over" the words and seem to say we don't need to understand this detail. But, we'd be wrong.  This chapter is at the end of an amazing set of chapters from 25 through 30.  It's all about God's Holy Dwelling place, His Mishkan Kodesh, or as its better known as His TABERNACLE which comes from the Latin meaning tent.  As we have seen so far as we dig deep, as we put the Mishkan HaKodesh in its historical context, as we try and study the garments of the High Priest and the Priests, as we focus in on the Menorah, the Table of Shewbread, the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies in their ancient cultural context, we find a depth of meaning so powerful and so related to us today. The video podcast (I call it a vidcast) is in two parts.  PART ONE ... is on the Altar of Incense and the Bronce Laver.  Getting the foundational understanding of there parts of Hs Mishkan HaKodesh, we are able to see how this relates to our Lord, our Yeshua, God Himself who came to dwell with us.  Once we study the specific events in Jesus' life as related to the Altar of Incense and the Bronze Laver, our understanding becomes clearer.  To know the events in Jesus' life many time s we need to set them in their context in the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. PART TWO ... is on the meeting between Nicodemus and Jesus.  It was a critical meeting and Jesus tells Nicodemus he and all Jews and Gentiles they must be born again.  Nicodemus is confused.  Born again?  We must re-enter our mother's womb and be reborn.  But, Jesus is talking about a Jewish set of requirements related to Tehveelah – טבילה or immersion or dipping or dunking or baptism in a Miqveh – מִקְוֶה or an object where water is gathered alike a bathtub of a pool.                          My personal picture of an ancient Miqveh at the ancient site of Qumran                                         that was in use in Jesus' day.                                     A modern Miqveh from Wikimedia                                         It is related to the use of the High Priest and Priests of the Bronze Laver we'll study in part two of this two part vidcast.  Once we put all this in its historical context things make a whole lot of sense.  We'll learn that “being born again” was a Jewish concept so well understood in Jesus' day.  Here's a link to study the idea of ritual immersion and where it came from.  The idea of Jewish ritual immersion (baptism) is an unbiblical idea.  God never commanded it or created it. Link - https://www.thetorah.com/article/on-the-origins-of-tevilah-ritual-immersion Also, in PART TWO we will study the census and the collection of a half shekel from each man 20 years of older; in other words from the Israeli army of those days.  It seems likely that this tax was a means for soldier to pay a symbolic amount for his atonement since he had to kill in battle.  It's almost as is God is saying, even in a just war, that life is precious, and even killing another, our enemy, in a just war, that God views this as necessary but against His view that all life is important.  The half shekel is a symbol of the bigger picture that all human life is important in God's eyes even if it is a cruel and evil enemy.  They were made in His image and likeness.  It is a way for the Israeli soldier to do a real act to seek God's "covering" over the killing the soldier may need to do ina just war. The vidcast ends with God's directions on making His anointing oil and His incense.  It is the last orders of God for the entire Tabernacle.  The anointing oil is a perfume that is put on all objects and the High Priest and Priests.  The whole Tabernacle was filled with the fragrance of God's anointing oil.  God knows we can't see Him.  But, in chapters 25-30 not only do we see His dwelling place and His priests but now we can smell the fragrance of the Lord as we come near to Him where He dwells with us.  REminds me of us to be the fragrance of Christ to the world.  We are to be His disciples which means we are to be like our rabbi.  We are to a reflection of Yeshua to all.  We are to be the Fragrance of Messiah.  ASs God spread His fragrance throughout the Tabernacle so now Yeshua has His fragrance from the annointing oil on Him as Messiah.  And, we are to be like Him and so His fragrance is on us so we spread it to the world.  For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;  to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. 2 Cor. 2:15-17 We end with the incense.  The priest must burn incense when the Menorah is extinguished in the morning and incense it to be burn when the Menorah is again relit for the night as a light shining in the darkness.  Our question might be is God using the cloud of incense to tell us He is here, in the Tabernacle, 24/7, dwelling with His people, and the smoke of the incense is like His Spirt among us?  Perhaps.  It seems to make sense.  Ad our final conclusion to all this is all this is קדושים ביותר יהוה אלוהינו Kodesh Bayoter Yahvay Elohaynoo Most Holy to the Lord our God Rev. Part two is on the meeting between Nicodemus and Jesus.  It was a critical meeting and Jesus tells Nicodemus he and all Jews and Gentiles they must be born again.  Nicodemus is confused.  Born again?  We must re-enter our mother's womb and be reborn.  But, Jesus is talking about a Jewish set of requirements related to Tehveelah – טבילה or immersion or dipping or dunking or baptism in a Miqveh – מִקְוֶה or an object where water is gathered alike a bathtub of a pool.                          My personal picture of an ancient Miqveh at the ancient site of Qumran                                         that was in use in Jesus' day.                                     A modern Miqveh from Wikimedia                                         It is related to the use of the High Priest and Priests of the Bronze Laver we'll study in part two of this two part vidcast.  Once we put all this in its historical context things make a whole lot of sense.  We'll learn that “being born again” was a Jewish concept so well understood in Jesus' day.  Here's a link to study the idea of ritual immersion and where it came from.  The idea of Jewish ritual immersion (baptism) is an unbiblical idea.  God never commanded it or created it. Link - https://www.thetorah.com/article/on-the-origins-of-tevilah-ritual-immersion Also, in part two we will study the census and the collection of a half shekel from each man 20 years of older; in other words from the Israeli army of those days.  It seems likely that this tax was a means for soldier to pay a symbolic amount for his atonement since he had to kill in battle.  It's almost as is God is saying, even in a just war, that life is precious, and even killing another, our enemy, in a just war, that God views this as necessary but against His view that all life is important.  The half shekel is a symbol of the bigger picture that all human life is important in God's eyes even if it is a cruel and evil enemy.  They were made in His image and likeness.  It is a way for the Israeli soldier to do a real act to seek God's "covering" over the killing the soldier may need to do ina just war. The vidcast ends with God's directions on making His anointing oil and His incense.  It is the last orders of God for the entire Tabernacle.  The anointing oil is a perfume that is put on all objects and the High Priest and Priests.  The whole Tabernacle was filled with the fragrance of God's anointing oil.  God knows we can't see Him.  But, in chapters 25-30 not only do we see His dwelling place and His priests but now we can smell the fragrance of the Lord as we come near to Him where He dwells with us. We end with the incense.  The priest must burn incense when the Menorah is extinguished in the morning and incense it to be burn when the Menorah is again relit for the night as a light shining in the darkness.  Our question might be is God using the cloud of incense to tell us He is here, in the Tabernacle, 24/7, dwelling with His people, and the smoke of the incense is like His Spirt among us?  Perhaps.  It seems to make sense.  Ad our final conclusion to all this is all this is קדושים ביותר יהוה אלוהינו Kodesh Bayoter Yahvay Elohaynoo Most Holy to the Lord our God Rev. Here's another awesome parallel that I did not include in the video.  It is clear that Bethlehem is called the CITY OF DAVID.  In the Bible it is referred to as the "city of David" because it was the birthplace and hometown of King David. This designation primarily appears in the New Testament regarding Jesus' birth, connecting his lineage to David. The key verses are Luke 2:4-11, 1 Samuel 16:1-4, and John 7:42. Jerusalem is also called the CITY OF DAVID.  Key Bible verses regarding the Jerusalem as the City of David are ... 2 Samuel 5:7 (NIV): "Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David." 2 Samuel 5:9 (ESV): "And David lived in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And he built the city all around from the Millo in complete circuit..." 1 Chronicles 11:5 (NIV): "The people of Jebus said to David, 'You will never get in here.' Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David." 1 Kings 8:1 (NIV): "Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel... to bring up the ark of the Lord's covenant from Zion, the City of David." 1 Kings 11:43 (NIV): "Then he [Solomon] rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David his father." Nehemiah 3:15 (NIV): "...He [Shallun] repaired the Fountain Gate... up to the stairs going down from the City of David." On Passover Jesus, the Messiah, was crucified and died and was buried in the City of David, Jerusalem.  But, Jesus, the Messiah, was born in the City of David, Bethlehem.  The crucifixion of Jesus and His birth happen in the same area.  Bethlehem is 5 miles from the Temple Mount.   The map below shows the line between the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the Old City of Jerusalem) and the Church of the Nativity (Bethlehem). Could it then be that Messiah was born on Passover in the City of David and Messiah would die on Passover in the City of David?  Perhaps.  It makes sense. Here's an detailed scholarly article from the Associates for Biblical Research that suggests Jesus was born on Passover.   Link - https://www.biblearchaeology.org/abr-projects/the-daniel-9-24-27-project-2/4368-pinpointing-the-date-of-christ-s-birth Rabbi Jonathan Cahn (renowned Messianic Jewish rabbi and Bible scholar) did a video also saying Yeshua was born at Passover.  His presentation is very interesting but he says Jesus was born during the time when lambs are born in Israel - spring from March to April.  This is a major error and it not correct.  (See this source - https://gospeltangents.com/2019/01/myth-lambing-season/) Lambs in Israel, particularly the predominant Awassi breed, are typically born in early winter, with the principal lambing season occurring in December and January. While some sheep may lamb through early spring, the heaviest activity aligns with the rainy season (November-March) to ensure fresh pasture for lactating ewes.  The fact that lambs are born in March/April at Passover and that the lambs in Bethlehem were raised for the Temple sacrifice that Jonathan Cahn uses is incorrect.  Consider modern myths about Christmas (see the article in total at https://www.1517.org/articles/debunking-popular-christmastime-myths-temple-shepherds-migdal-eder-and-swaddling-lambs 1) The Bethlehem shepherds were raising lambs for the temple This opinion, popularized long ago by Alfred Edersheim in The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, is based on scanty evidence drawn from the Mishnah, the basic compendium of Jewish law. 2) Jesus was born in a shepherd's tower called Migdal Eder This claim is based on the earlier, questionable legend that these were temple flocks. It was also suggested by Edersheim incorrectly.  Unlike the earlier opinion, however, this one is not even built on scanty evidence; it is built on thin air. 3) Shepherds swaddled lambs to keep them unblemished then placed them in a manger to keep them safe What is the evidence for this claim? There is none. It has spread like wildfire on recent FB posts. What we have is the fictional creation of someone's mind. However, here is the the presentation by Jonathan Cahn and is well worth the listen. He brings in other things we should consider as we ponder the birth of Messiah at Passover. Symbolic Meanings Head (Intellect/Wisdom): is an input out device. We speak and see as output. We see and hear and taste as input.  From the input it goes directly to our heart. Heart (Mind & mental abilities & Will): the heart (lev) is the seat of our mind, our intellect, our mental capabilities. It is not related to our feelings or emotions. In the Hebrew scriptures the seat of emotions are the kidneys (see https://www.torahapologetics.com/language--word-studies/hebrew-anatomy-part-2-the-kidneys for this idea). Hands (Action/Deeds): the tools of action and the means by which a person translates intellectual understanding into tangible deeds – things that we do resulting from the intentions coming from our mind (hearts). Feet (The way we live/Our walk): how we live, the observable direction of our lives. This lesson might spur you on to do you own study of the concept of head and heart and hands and feet.  I watch for this constantly as I read and meditate and study and do research and even pray the text.  One example is when I say my morning prayers including the Shema that Jesus would've said three times a day.  I have been blown away as to how the concept of head and heart and hands and feet is everywhere in these Bible verse prayed by Jews three times a day in Jesus' day, before His time, and even till today.  Check it out …  THE SHEMA שׁמע Head and Heart and Hands and Feet Deuteronomy 6:4–9 "Hear (HEAD), O Israel! "I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the LORD your God. In this lesson I commented on Psalm 119:2 and the phrase “seek Him with all their heart.”  It has nothing to do with someone “looking” for God or Jesus since they do not feel His closeness or since He is invisible, we ask where is He.  Two podcasts that demonstrate that God is always with us and there is no reason to look for Him are Truth Nuggets 3 part 1 & 2.  These lessons will enhance our understanding that if we are His people, if we are truly His disciples, the followers of Jesus, and He is always with us.  There is absolutely no reason to go looking for the Lord as per the very words of God.  Moreover, it is more than the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.  Check them out …   Truth Nuggets 3 part1 – https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/truth-nuggets-lesson-3-part-1/   Truth Nuggets 3 part 2 – https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/truth-nuggets-lesson-3-part-2/?token=ddbd4a5471c8c67b359d9cb31ea26d7b   Light of Menorah did a podcast of this concept.  It is Truth Nuggets 13 entitled, “Head and Heart and Hands and Feet.” The link is below.  Over and over again we read the about being righteous and it is pictured in the way we talk or hear or listen (our head) or in our work or results of what we do (hands)  and in the ways we walk (feet) – walk in the commands of the Lord and walk in our own ways.  It is also pictured in the way we think or our emotions of feelings (heart).  Just consider the text in the prophet Isaiah. "Where will you be stricken again, As you continue in your rebellion? The whole head is sick And the whole heart is faint. From the sole of the foot even to the head There is nothing sound in it, Only bruises, welts and raw wounds, Not pressed out or bandaged, ... So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood." (Isa 1:5-15) In one chapter we see this concept played out quite clearly.  The rebelliousness against God is pictured using the concept “head and heart and hands and feet.”  Another place this is seen is in the consecration of the high priest Aaron and his sons.  This is exactly what we are focusing in on in this podcast and in part 1.  Consider … "Then you shall take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram. "You shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron's right ear and on the lobes of his sons' right ears and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet, and sprinkle the rest of the blood around on the altar. (Exo 29:19-20) In the Torah Commentary by the Messianic Jewish scholar, Tim Hegg (make sure you check out his website as another resource for Bible study - https://torahresource.com/) says that these body parts in the ancient Middle East and among the ancient Hebrews came to mean hearing and obeying the Torah of the Lord using the ear (Head).  The right hand symbolizes one's work.  Aaron had his hand dedicated to the daily work of the sacrifices of the Lord (Hand).  His feet symbolize that he walk according the God's ways and maintain his right standing before God in his daily movements in life (Feet).  There are two verses that you may remember that deal with the heart.  In these verses we see that the heart is the source of our wickedness and our evil ways and thoughts.  Consider … "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways (feet), According to the results of his deeds(hands). (Jer 17:9-10) "But the things that proceed out of the mouth(head) come from the heart, and those defile the man. "For out of the heart come evil thoughts (heart), murders(hands), adulteries(hands), fornications(hands), thefts (hands), false witness(head)., slanders(head). (Mat 15:18-19) Let's delve into this and see the dramatic place it takes us.  Let's study this idea God seems to use to teach from Genesis to Revelation.  Come let's learn about Head and Hearts and Hands and Feet. This is another one of those chapters in the Bible that is not necessarily inspirational or having meaning for us as disciples of Messiah Jesus as we read it.  It is interesting for sure, but it seems only God's details to Moses for how to conduct the induction of (I'm using the Hebrew pronunciation of the names) Ah-aron as high priest and his sons, Naydav, Aveeoo, Elahzar and Ithamar as priests.  But, then we put this text in its historical context and everything changes.  It is clear this is about God's intention to continue to separate His chosen people, the Hebrews, from Egypt.  The had assimilated into the Egyptian culture and now the Lord was doing all things necessary to get Egypt out of Israel.  And it is not as easy for Him as taking Israel out of Egypt.  I did a podcast on showing that indeed the Bible implies that Israel had indeed integrated into the culture of Israel and perhaps assimlated.  Check it out ... We come to the end of chapter 28 in Exodus but there's a few more things that need to be covered in this chapter.  One is we need to study the Ureem and Thummeem in more detail.  The reason being is there is teaching from the orthodox rabbis that turns the Ureem and Thummeem into objects that are more related to science fiction that reality.  So what did those rabbis teach?  What was it based upon?  Once we see that there teaching is their view, their opinion, not based upon fact, we see their views are more fantasy than something that we'd say is real.  A popular rabbinc view is that the Ureem and Thummeem were related to the stones on the breast piece of the High priest.  It seems possible that this comes from the rabbinic view that the Ureem for instance are lights since they said Ureem is nothing more than the plural for the Hebrew word for light.  See the pictures below. These are summaries of the two Hebrew words.  The top picture is for the word Ureem and the one below is for the Hebrew word Or.  The word Ureeem is masculine and the Hebrew word Or, meaning light, is feminine!  This is just one problem with saying that Ureem is the Hebrew word for lights or the plural of Or.  The second issue is the spelling.  The top picture sows that Ureem's first two letters are אוּ and notice the location of the "dot" or what is known as a dagesh - וּ.  The picture below shows the first two letters of the Hebrew word Or and notice the position of the dagesh אוֹ.  The dagesh is in a different location as one can see - וֹ.  The difference is the first gives the sound UR and the second gives the sound OR.  The spelling is different and the pronunciation is different.  Ureem is NOT the plural of the Hebrew word OR meaning light.  The letters are the same in both words but the dagesh, the "dot" used for specific vowel sounds is different.  It seems that the rabbis dismissed these galring differences, concluded that Ureeem was the plural of Or, and then seemed to say the stones were used as "lights" on the breastpiece.  Understanding the Hebrew shows that is likely fantasy and can not be the truth. The Ureem and Thummeem were real.  They were put in the pocket of the linen breast piece of the High Priest.  The wording implies they were physical objects.  The Torah and the words given to Moses to write down about the Ureem and Thummeem seem to contradict what the orthodox rabbis came up with.  It is part of their midrasheem (what they got from study); it is views and ideas made up by these rabbis to try and explain something that is enigmatic, something hidden, something difficult to understand and know.  I urge you to listen to the podcast I did on Rabbinic Midrasheem or the man made views and ideas the rabbis came up with that in many cases are unbiblical and not based upon reason or fact.  It was their attempt to try and make sense of those things in Torah and seemingly have no answers or are totally beyond our understanding.  Here's the link to that podcast -  https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/the-gospel-according-to-moses-genesis-lesson-47-special-what-is-rabbinc-midrash/ Another issue is to discuss another rabbinic fantasy that the rabbis made up.  "There is a mystical Jewish tradition (in other words a MIDRASH or something a mna made up to explain something) that the high priest of Israel would enter the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle or temple with a rope tied to his foot. The purpose of the rope, according to the tradition, was to retrieve the high priest's body in case he died in the course of his duties within the Holy of Holies."  (See the article, "Did the high priest have a rope tied to him when he entered the Holy of Holies?" found at the Bible study website www.GotQuestions.org or https://www.gotquestions.org/high-priest-rope.html) This is totally false and it is something that the rabbis made up and has stuck with us ever since.  We need to see that this "tradition" is antibiblical and refutes THE VERY WORDS OF GOD as to how the High Priest is to dress when he enters the Holy of Holies once per year on Yom Kippur.  I found it amazing as to how many Christians believe this to be true.  It is clear that most Christians are poorly trained in the Bible.  It is even taught in the Creation and Earth History Museum just outside of San Diego.  The false tradition is portrayed as true and in their description they even go against the Bible and God's word and instruction.   Here's an awesome scholary article on this issue that I believe will only add to your study - "That Rope around the High Priest's Ankle," by Todd Bolen at this link https://www.bibleplaces.com/blog/2009/01/that-rope-around-high-priests-ankle/ Rev.
