Welcome to Episode 124 of The Perfectionist's Guide to Mothering! For the next two months I'm going to replay some of the most popular episodes we've had over the past five years. Today I'm sharing an episode from the friendship summer series my friend Stacey Morgan and I recorded a few years ago. This is the introductory episode to the series and I highly recommend listening to all of the episodes! (Episodes 51-58). Next time I will replay another episode from that series because it is also one of my most popular episodes. For these replay episodes, keep in mind that they were recorded a few years ago. But the advice and encouragement in them are timeless, so I hope you will be encouraged and inspired to apply it to your life and motherhood. I hope you enjoy!Pre-order my book, Two-Minute Timeouts for New Moms: 100 Devotions for Weary and Wonderful Days.*Join my book launch team.*Affiliate Link
This week Jon takes a look at the idea of what it means to have the faith of a child, talks about the fact there are no outcasts when it comes to Jesus, and that Christ followers can be guilty of hindering others from seeing Jesus clearly. Hope this challenges you and encourages you as well. As always if you wish to discuss this topic further, or discuss having Jon speak at one of your events, reach out at jon@christianoutdoors.org

Words are a powerful force and can profoundly affect individuals lives for the good or for the worse. The words that are most remembered are from those spoken at the end of their lives. Last words, by their very nature, carry a sense of finality. They are the last message a person imparts to the world, often containing reflections on their life, regrets, hopes, or warnings. Because they are spoken at a critical juncture, these words are often perceived as more significant and meaningful than pronouncements made during everyday life. The words of the dying are more remembered than the living because of their inherent finality. They are the final stamp of what their life was like on earth and of whom they served faithfully until the end. I have been often carried throughout life borne about by words of those saints that gave me strength and stamina, comfort and hope by those who lived hundreds and even thousands of years ago. Your own words will also echo from eternity in the lives you've spoken to while you lived in the earth. They will make all the difference in their rough journeys Home to heaven land."By them we, being dead still speak, and we speak in subtle forces which aid or hinder other pilgrims who are fighting their way to God and heaven." - J. H. Jowett

In today's devotion, Pastor Sumrall urges believers to recover a sense of reverence for sacred spaces dedicated to the worship of God. Drawing from King Josiah's bold reforms in 2 Kings 23, we're reminded that Satan always seeks to desecrate what is holy. It's time to honor what has been set apart for the Lord. Scripture Focus: Acts 16:16–19 In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall explores the reality of demonic influence as seen in Acts 16. A slave girl with a spirit of divination followed Paul and his companions, proclaiming truth but doing so from a demonic source. Pastor Sumrall teaches that while some dismiss fortune-telling as fake, Scripture shows that demons can reveal satan's plans—and that people can profit from these powers. Paul's response was direct: he spoke not to the girl, but to the spirit within her, casting it out in Jesus' name. This passage reminds us that spiritual warfare is real, and that true deliverance comes through the authority of Christ alone. Send us a textThe scarlet thread of redemption begins in the Garden of Eden with a profound act of divine mercy. When Adam names his wife "Eve," meaning life, it reveals a remarkable spiritual transformation—the first humans had repented of their rebellion and embraced God's promise of a coming Redeemer. This episode of "Devotions with Dr. Papa" explores Genesis 3:20-21, where we witness the origin of blood atonement. After Adam and Eve's failed attempt to cover themselves with fig leaves, God sacrifices an animal to clothe them properly. This becomes the first link in the scarlet thread that weaves throughout Scripture—from Abel's accepted sacrifice and Noah's burnt offerings to Abraham's test with Isaac and the Passover lamb in Egypt. Each blood sacrifice foreshadows the ultimate atonement that would come through Christ.Dr. Jackson powerfully reminds us that nothing we do can erase even a single sin. No religious activity, moral achievement, or social status can atone for our transgressions. When standing before God's judgment, only one plea remains valid: trust in the blood of Jesus. As the beloved hymn declares, "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood." The animal skin garments in Eden point directly to Calvary's cross, where God's plan of redemption reaches its perfect fulfillment in Christ's sacrifice. This timeless truth offers us the same path to restoration that Adam and Eve discovered—repentance, faith, and the divine covering that only God can provide.Join us next week as we finish examining Genesis chapter 3. Until then, remember that true contentment comes only through trusting and obeying God—a lesson first learned in humanity's earliest days.Support the showhttps://www.jacksonfamilyministry.comhttps://bobslone.com/home/podcast-production/

Many regard not to know and want to keep it that way and go on with church life as normal. But everything is far from normal. The recent event with Israel and Iran should be enough for all believers to stand up and take notice. We are in the literal final minutes of this church age and it cannot be denied. Immediately after the US government leveled a heavy blow to Iran, the most disturbing thing happened. Multitudes of "believers" came out strongly with the most blatant antisemitc rage.Since this last event antisemitism is now going to go off the Richter Scale. The Jews in Israel and all over the world are about to start experiencing the wrath and rage of people that hate them. Therefore, this is now the time we as the true believers need to pray for all Jews in Israel and abroad. They are about to be in the literal fight for their lives. This recent event was purported to bring so-called "peace" to the region, but there is no man on earth that will or can broker peace. The one who can will be Jesus Christ when He returns as The Prince of Peace. The Lion of the Tribe of Judah and He will renew His covenant with them as the "Chief of Nations.""Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Thought to share? Send me a text...The resurrection stands as the pinnacle moment of human history—the ultimate demonstration that darkness can never extinguish light. In this deeply reflective episode, we journey through John's eyewitness account of that first Easter morning, uncovering details that authenticate and illuminate this world-changing event. We begin where John begins—establishing Jesus as the eternal Word who "became human and made his home among us." This cosmic context sets the stage for understanding why the empty tomb matters so profoundly. As we follow Mary Magdalene's grief-stricken discovery, Peter and John's breathless race to verify her claim, and the fascinating evidence of burial linens left behind, we're confronted with powerful evidence of resurrection rather than grave robbery. The most moving moment comes when Mary, blinded by tears, fails to recognize Jesus until he speaks her name. This personal encounter reveals how Jesus breaks through our grief and confusion to make himself known. His choice of Mary—a woman with a troubled past—as the first witness and proclaimer of resurrection powerfully demonstrates kingdom values that elevate the marginalized. Most striking is Jesus' new way of referring to his disciples as "brothers," signaling a fundamental shift in relationship made possible through his sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection.Whether you're a longtime believer or exploring faith for the first time, this exploration of resurrection will help you grasp how Jesus transforms our identity from followers to family members. Join us as we discover what it truly means to be called children of God through the resurrection power that conquered death and offers new life to all who believe. To read my blog, find out more about me, or to book a speaking engagement, head to https://betsymarvin.com/For access to past podcasts and transcripts, head tohttps://betsymarvin.com/podcasts/You can follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/betsyjmarvin/and Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/betsy.marvin.98

Why is it that even after choosing to follow Jesus, we still struggle with sin? Why do we fall into the same patterns, even when our hearts long to live differently? In this episode, we talk about the inner battle every Christian faces — the tension between the flesh and the Spirit, guilt and grace, striving and surrender. We'll explore what Scripture says about this fight, how to navigate it without giving in to shame, and why God's love doesn't depend on our perfection. If you've ever felt like you're failing God or wondered why holiness feels so hard, this conversation is for you.

It is not only in prophetic view, but it is now tangible and palpable. One of the things that is occuring is the wide sweeping sense of time closing in by parents who have unsaved children and grandchildren. Many have been reaching out to me pleading for me to pray for them. The parents and and grandparents that are praying for their salvation are becoming weary and exhausted. They describe their offspring as so deeply lost, involved in the "course of this world," and want nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Yet these faithful parents go on praying even in long dark paths never seeing a change in them, even though they seem to get worse. However, as a mother myself of two grown sons, I can tell you I fought like a lionness for them. I always will. I understand the sorrows, pain and longevity of the wars and want to strongly encourage you to never give up. Never consider surrendering your formidable prayers. God will answer your thousands of prayers watered by tears. He is not finished with your children. He will save them to the uttermost..."To the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills.""The great fault of the children of God is, they do not continue in prayer; they do not go on praying; they do not persevere. If they desire anything for God's glory, they should pray until they get it." - George Muller

Send us a textThe mysteries of human suffering and toil find their origins in Genesis 3, where God pronounces judgment on Adam after the first sin. Dr. Robert Jackson, known affectionately as Dr. Papa, unravels this pivotal biblical moment with pastoral wisdom and practical insight.Dr. Papa begins by challenging a common misreading of Scripture—that men shouldn't listen to their wives. Rather than a prohibition against heeding female counsel, this passage warns against yielding to temptation regardless of its source. Our spouses are divine gifts who see our blind spots and speak truth when no one else will. Drawing from his medical practice, Dr. Jackson shares poignant stories of husbands and wives who regretted not listening to their partner's warnings about destructive behaviors. Why does that abandoned barn gradually collapse? Why does work feel so tiresome? Why do we long for weekends and retirement despite finding our identity in our vocations? These "questions that teach" reveal the far-reaching effects of the Fall. The curse brought sorrow, painful toil, sweat, and ultimately death—yet paradoxically, these consequences contain hidden mercy. Death itself limits the unchecked spread of wickedness, while suffering can prompt repentance and righteous living. Most powerfully, Dr. Papa places Jesus at the center of this narrative of curse and redemption. As the Second Adam, Christ bore our curse completely—experiencing the man of sorrows' grief, wearing thorns as His crown, sweating drops of blood, and entering the dust of death. Through His sacrifice, we glimpse a future where "there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain."Whether you're struggling with life's hardships, seeking to understand suffering theologically, or wanting to explain these biblical truths to your children, this devotional offers compassionate wisdom rooted in Scripture. Shame called. Guilt texted. Condemnation knocked. But guess what? You don't live there anymore. In this episode, we unpack the freedom bomb dropped in Romans 8:1—“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That's not a cute suggestion. It's a kingdom fact. If you've been dragging around spiritual baggage Jesus already paid to check, it's time to let it go. Walk in grace, drop the guilt trip, and stop giving the enemy a seat at a table he wasn't invited to.
