Scripture Reading: Isaiah 5:20–22 (NLT) “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold.” In this passage, God warns of the sorrows that come when people change the meaning of right and wrong. Isaiah speaks of those who redefine morality—calling evil good, excusing sin as freedom, and celebrating what God calls destructive. This is the reality we still see in our world today, where definitions are constantly shifting to justify corruption, immorality, and disobedience. As believers, we are called to stand firm in the truth of God's Word. The Bible—not the world's changing standards—defines what is good, righteous, and holy. Instead of conforming to a culture that blurs the lines, we are to hold fast to Scripture and live by God's eternal truth. Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:5, 9–10 (NLT) “That experience is worth boasting about, but I'm not going to do it. I will boast only about my weaknesses… Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” The Apostle Paul reminds us that true strength in the Christian life does not come from our abilities, popularity, or achievements—it comes from God's grace. Paul faced hardships, insults, persecution, and constant opposition, yet he learned to rejoice in weakness because that's where God's power shines the brightest. Instead of relying on himself, Paul relied completely on God's grace. This is a lesson for us today. When life feels overwhelming, when insults or troubles come our way, we don't have to be ashamed or defeated. We can say, “Lord, I rely on Your grace. I boast in my weakness so that Your strength may be seen in me.” In every trial, His grace is sufficient, and His power will carry us through. Scripture Reading: Isaiah 1:21, 18 (ESV) “How the faithful city has become a whore, she who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers… Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” One of the hardest lessons in the Christian life is realizing that people change—not only from bad to good, but sadly, sometimes from good to bad. Isaiah shows us how God's people, once faithful and pure, had turned away into sin. They kept bringing offerings, but their hearts no longer belonged to Him. God wasn't interested in empty rituals—He wanted obedience, holiness, and true devotion. The same is true for us today. Maybe you once walked closely with God but drifted back into old habits, wrong influences, or spiritual coldness. Yet the Lord still says, “Come, let us reason together.” His mercy is greater than our failures, and when we return to Him with obedience, He restores, forgives, and blesses. Brothers and sisters, if your heart has changed, don't stay far from Him. Sit down with God today, settle things with Him, and let Him make you clean again. The Bible is full of stories, outcome testimonies and promises that are for all circumstances in life, and for extreme cases. We believe and rely on them and have expectation. The believer that is made alive in the Lord is always ready to help and pray. Giving is always joy and it makes us feel full of the power of God's love to perform it.However, I want to mark out how there are certain individuals that we come across that are very desperate, in dire straits, facing impossible situations. We spring into action because we love them and want them delivered. But there is a problem. Many times there is frustration because as much intense prayer, and working with them, teaching, sharing the word, they are never better. There is never any change.I have experienced this many times in my life. We are never to be weary in well-doing, but there are things God has to teach us, and show us. Therefore, we are to go through these things ultimately to trust God and Him alone completely for them. This is not a compensatory saying but one of wisdom. We must learn that there is no one more merciful than Jesus Christ Himself. We have to learn to bow and give them up to the Lord with as much joy we had when we first started to believe for them."A whole lot of what we call 'struggling' is simply delayed obedience." - Elisabeth Elliot

In this week's episode, host Kristin Hayes talks with Kristen McCormack, Resources for the Future's newest research fellow, about McCormack's scholarly work on the impact of extreme temperatures on student behavior, educational outcomes, disciplinary infractions, and later-life outcomes. McCormack explains how she combined student data from a large urban school district in the United States, information about the presence or absence of air-conditioning, and environmental data to understand the causal link between classroom temperature and student behavior. McCormack's data reveal that hot temperatures lead to an increase in absences and disciplinary referrals but that temperature adaptation measures, like air-conditioning, are especially important in schools to maintain a safe learning environment as extreme temperatures become more common. Welcome to Devotions by the Sea, our brand-new devotional series where we take everyday elements of God's creation and discover His truth in them. In this episode, Waves of the Sea, we dive into James 1:5-6, where Scripture reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, who gives generously to all.Just like waves are not random splashes, but powerful forces of energy moving through the water—caused by wind, tides, and even storms—our faith is shaped by what moves us. God uses the imagery of waves to describe how people respond to faith: sometimes steady, sometimes tossed about. But wisdom is more than head knowledge. It's not just facts—it's God's truth guiding our steps. He has a plan and purpose for each of us, and He longs for us to discover it. The question is: How do we find out what that plan is?Join us as we unpack the beauty of waves, the depth of God's wisdom, and the assurance that when we seek Him, He will guide us with clarity and purpose.------------------------------------------------------------------------------CREDITS: Developed & Hosted by Michael Lane. Send us a textShame can be a powerful prison. In this intimate devotional episode, we dive deep into the aftermath of humanity's first murder through the lens of Genesis 4:12-15. The story of Cain's punishment reveals profound truths about our own struggles with sin, shame, and separation from God.What happens when the weight of our actions becomes too heavy to carry? Cain's lament that "my punishment is too great to bear" echoes through time into the hearts of many today. Drawing from his experiences ministering to men in prison, Dr. Papa illuminates how this ancient cry mirrors what he's witnessed firsthand—the paralysis that comes when shame overwhelms us. Even believers who intellectually understand Christ's redemptive work find themselves trapped in this self-imposed exile, separated from God, family, and purpose. The contrast between Cain and his parents offers a striking lesson. While Adam and Eve understood that blood sacrifice pointed toward a future Messiah, Cain rejected this path to restoration. His story serves as a powerful warning about the consequences of unconfessed sin and rebellion against God's design. Yet even in judgment, we glimpse God's mercy through the mysterious protective sign placed on Cain. The message culminates in a soul-stirring invitation: Will you continue wandering as a vagrant in your shame, or will you run into the loving arms of Jesus, who bore your sin and shame on the cross? "He who believes in Him will not be ashamed, will not be disappointed." The choice is yours—continued separation or complete restoration through Christ, who waits with open arms to receive you.
