Send us a textThe mysteries of human suffering and toil find their origins in Genesis 3, where God pronounces judgment on Adam after the first sin. Dr. Robert Jackson, known affectionately as Dr. Papa, unravels this pivotal biblical moment with pastoral wisdom and practical insight.Dr. Papa begins by challenging a common misreading of Scripture—that men shouldn't listen to their wives. Rather than a prohibition against heeding female counsel, this passage warns against yielding to temptation regardless of its source. Our spouses are divine gifts who see our blind spots and speak truth when no one else will. Drawing from his medical practice, Dr. Jackson shares poignant stories of husbands and wives who regretted not listening to their partner's warnings about destructive behaviors. Why does that abandoned barn gradually collapse? Why does work feel so tiresome? Why do we long for weekends and retirement despite finding our identity in our vocations? These "questions that teach" reveal the far-reaching effects of the Fall. The curse brought sorrow, painful toil, sweat, and ultimately death—yet paradoxically, these consequences contain hidden mercy. Death itself limits the unchecked spread of wickedness, while suffering can prompt repentance and righteous living. Most powerfully, Dr. Papa places Jesus at the center of this narrative of curse and redemption. As the Second Adam, Christ bore our curse completely—experiencing the man of sorrows' grief, wearing thorns as His crown, sweating drops of blood, and entering the dust of death. Through His sacrifice, we glimpse a future where "there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain."Whether you're struggling with life's hardships, seeking to understand suffering theologically, or wanting to explain these biblical truths to your children, this devotional offers compassionate wisdom rooted in Scripture. In this powerful devotion, Pastor Sumrall shares wisdom from Proverbs 29, reminding us that discipline is more than words—it requires consistent consequences. He also warns that pampering early on can lead to rebellion, even from those we once invested in deeply. Let God's Word shape how we lead, train, and develop those entrusted to us. I felt such powerful love and I poured it out upon her in tender devotion.Isn't that the way love acts? Truly those who are the Lord's are full of His love. The kind of love that no matter who it is, friend or foe, when we hear of something terrible, it is God's love that explodes within and we flee to run in the path of the power His love. What I saw most definitely reavealed the last darkest hours of this world. The church in thick darkness with chaos and confusion. People who were desperate for the true light only to be kept waiting in the bleak darkness, and it was the last hour of the day.I saw heaven and our soon entering into it. There is no way to adequately describe that heavenly country, what I saw and felt. The sequence of events that led up to the arrival to heaven were clear and plain and does not really need any interpretation.Heaven is no dream. It is a very real place that is being prepared for us to enter in all at once very soon. No man knows that day or hour, but we know "the times and seasons God placed in His hand." Not to mention there are so many men, women and even little children that are dreaming the same things all over the world. It seems that heaven is approaching and the earth is receding."God is our portion, Christ our companion, the Spirit our Comforter, Earth our lodge, and Heaven is our home."- Charles Spurgeon

Thought to share? Send me a text...What happens when the power of politics collides with religious authority? Jesus's trial before Pilate reveals a pivotal moment where human justice systems falter but divine plans prevail.Pilate's interrogation of Jesus brings forward the timeless question: "What is truth?" While Pilate views truth as something determined by power and authority, Jesus embodies a truth that "comes from elsewhere but is meant to take up residence in this world," as theologian N.T. Wright eloquently describes. This ancient question resonates with our contemporary discussions of subjective versus objective truth. Most profound is Jesus's complete sovereignty throughout his trial. What appears to be a tragic miscarriage of justice is revealed as God's redemptive plan unfolding exactly as prophesied centuries earlier. From Isaiah's foretelling of the sacrificial lamb to Jesus's strategic words and silences before his accusers, we witness divine orchestration at work. The religious leaders ultimately declare "we have no king but Caesar," tragically denying their messianic hope to achieve their immediate goal. This episode challenges us to examine our own lives: Do we, like Pilate, prioritize social acceptance over conviction? Do we recognize God's hand even in apparent injustice? Join us as we ponder how the greatest injustice in human history became the foundation for our redemption. To read my blog, find out more about me, or to book a speaking engagement, head to https://betsymarvin.com/For access to past podcasts and transcripts, head tohttps://betsymarvin.com/podcasts/You can follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/betsyjmarvin/and Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/betsy.marvin.98

When we get married or enter into a long-term relationship, we soon realize the stark differences between ourselves and our mate. The flaws that were invisible to us at the beginning are now, perhaps, all we see. This goes both ways because our significant other sees those flaws in us as well. Couples tend to spend a great deal of energy looking for ways to "change" their mate, when, in fact, they don't have the power to create change in others. So, what do you do? How can you encourage your partner to make positive changes?  Our guest on this episode has written two amazing devotional books that help us answer that question. She is a lovely person who is wise and so incredibly insightful. You will want to listen and take notes! Guest Info Amanda Hayhurst is a Christian author and speaker with a Master's in Biblical and Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us to look carefully about how we walk, “not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” With the summer months approaching and the kids soon getting out of school, we want to encourage you to work with your kids to get off their screens, get out of the house, and make the most of the time rather than wasting their time on foolish pursuits. Here are some suggestions. For those who are old enough, have them secure a summer job. All of our kids should be required to perform daily and weekly chores around the house. Have them engage in outside yard work. Help them look for opportunities to volunteer. If they are too old to participate in your churches vacation Bible School, have them volunteer as helpers. Guide them to develop a short list of books to read over the summer months. Encourage them to develop a daily exercise plan. Teach them how to get into the habit of having daily devotions. Encourage your kids to have a wise summer.

This week Jon talks about a fun little narrative in John 6 where the disciples forgot to wait for Jesus and then got stuck in a storm.  While there fear and discouragement seems to have been the choice of the disciples, we find Jesus pursuing them and meeting their needs in the midst of the storm. As always, if you wish to discuss this further, feel free to shoot Jon an email at jon@christianoutdoors.org.
