Greetings Geeks and welcome to another episode of Game on Girl! My apologies for the lag in episode releases for Game on Girl. I came back with the best of intentions for monthly content on our podcast feed but as my favorite poet says, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." That's certainly how the last few months have gone for me. But I am back with a fantastic LIVE episode interviewing Jaimie Cordero from Espionage Cosmetics. We met up at Rose City Comic Con on September 8th. I attended Jaimie's panel, Level Up: Be a Nerd Boss on Friday of the con. Hearing her speak on the panel left me with many of the questions you hear in the interview. Of particular note is the way that Jaimie runs much of her business like she would run a raid in the glory days of WoW and the Burning Crusade (B.C.) expansion. Recording Live Live episodes present their own challenges and this one is no exception. I was able to edit out some of the background noise and the interruptions we faced but the recording is still a bit rough. Thankfully, you can hear Jaimie and that's the important part. She shares a truly personal story with us, one she admits she doesn't share often and leaves us with such a great message. I am so thankful that she agreed to the interview. It was beyond the highlight of the con for me. Espionage Swag I was able to get some pretty cool stuff that just happened to be out of stock (!) on the site at the time. One of my favorite moments of this interview wasn't recorded. When I sat down, Jaimie took one look at my nerd wrapped nails and said, "Oh you're an OG fangirl." I showed off my nails and she said, "I've been involved in every nail wrap run we've done for the company and I can tell you those wraps are five years old! It's great to see they still hold up!" And hold up they did. I wore the classic "Chainmail" wraps all weekend. To Discuss What is your best networking advice? What's a difficult moment you've had in your life that shaped a big decision? Let me know on Twitter @doclizz. Until next time, game on! Regina --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gameongirl/message

During our trip to Seattle for Emerald City Comic Con, we got to visit Espionage Cosmetics HQ and sit down with their owner and Glitter Jedi, Jaimie Cordero, to chat all things nerdy makeup.   One of the first things Jaimie says about Espionage Cosmetics is that it isn't quite the business she expected to have, because it's so much bigger and so much better. Espionage's first product line (The Browncoats Collection) came about as a response to the devastating news that Firefly actually only has one season. It sold out at its first con and has since exploded into the glittery empire it is today.   At the heart of Espionage is the desire to change the beauty industry. Not exactly known for being the most welcoming, kind, or diverse industry, Espionage is working hard to change that. They're the cosmetics company for people who don't fit in with other cosmetics companies. And as two homeschooled kids, Jaimie and I understand a little bit about not fitting in.   The world needs more feminine, geeky versions of all of its industries, and we're so glad Espionage has filled one of those gaps.   Please look for them at your next convention and hang out with them at espionagecosmetics.com and all over the Internet.   Have a great week, and stay nerdy.   P.S. In Episode 29 of the Success Bully Podcast, my special guest and nerd cosmetics phenom Jaimie Cordero gives incredible insights on leadership. As the CEO and Glitter Jedi of Espionage Cosmetics, Jaimie has clearly defined the difference between being bossy and being a boss.  Leadership is learned and it takes commitment to be worth following. You have to walk the walk and grow daily in leading to help others achieve their goals, to build an inspired team that will execute on the vision, and most importantly create a culture where people will stay and grow with the company.

This episode was recorded live earlier this year at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, WA. Our Wendy Buske moderated this panel, titled How to Be a Nerd For A Living: Discovering Careers in Pop-Culture. It features a collection of great nerdy professionals, including Dane Ault, artist and co-founder of Monkey Minion Press; Samantha Kalman, creator of the video game Sentris, and previously one of the team-members behind video game engine Unity; Kevin Konrad Hanna, a film director and comic creator who was also the art director on Plants versus Zombies: Heroes; Janet Lee, comic artist and Eisner award-winning co-creator of The Return of the Dapper Men; and Jaimie Cordero, co-founder and CEO of nerd makeup company Espionage Cosmetics. Our speakers pull from a wide variety of professional and personal backgrounds to discuss how they got started, the ongoing challenges they face, and the successes that keep them going. The panel caps off with an audience Q&A with a number of really great questions from the packed room of attendees.

The wonderful Jamie Cordero and Christal VanEtten from Espionage Cosmetics return to the Nerd For A Living Podcast! Espionage Cosmetics is a nerd makeup company based out of Tacoma, Washington. They make a line of beautifully designed nail wraps and makeup products, and have been adding a number of really cool licensed properties to their offerings, including Borderlands 2, Clive Barker’s Cenobites, and The Wicked and the Divine. Jaimie is Espionage’s co-founder, CEO and Glitter Jedi. Christal is their PR and Social Media Oracle. When we last talked to them, they were in the middle of a giant Kickstarter campaign that eventually raised over $144,000. That crowdfunding success paved the way for a new bi-monthly subscription service, Boom!Box, and a brick-and-mortar retail location, the Geek Boutique. Now Espionage Cosmetics spreads their nerd domination with an additional subscription service, Nexus. And they’re appearing at pop culture conventions around the country, bringing the joy of glitter and the best squad of nerd ambassadors around. Adron talks with Jaimie and Christal about the expansion of the Espionage business model, the power of a great team, how they leverage social media, and the excitement of creating a product that makes their customers so happy.
