They covered recent Hellraiser developments including new one-shot comics from Boom Studios focusing on different Cenobites, the upcoming Hellraiser game releasing October 8th, and new Trick or Treat Studios action figures. The main discussion centered on "The Body Politic," a story about Charlie George whose hands rebel against his body, exploring themes of revolution, control, and the consequences of breaking away from societal structures. The hosts analyzed the story's metaphors, its film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway," and received feedback from listeners about their experiences with the story. They also discussed upcoming commentary tracks for Prince of Darkness and Angel Heart.   Summary Hellraiser Comic Series Announcements The podcast hosts discussed recent Hellraiser news, including Boom Studios' announcement of five new Hellraiser one-shot comics titled "Hellraiser Resurrections" focusing on different Cenobites. They reviewed details about each comic's plot and characters, noting that these appear to be standalone stories that could potentially lead to a new series. The discussion also covered a successful Kickstarter campaign called "Leviathan's Vault" that raised nearly $900,000 to reissue Hellraiser comics, including volumes from 2011 and various limited series. The conversation concluded with a brief mention of the Hellraiser revival game, though details about this were not provided in the transcript segment. Hellraiser Game and Figures Release The group discussed the upcoming release of a Hellraiser game on October 8th, with José sharing details from gameplay demos including melee attacks, gunplay, puzzles, and a crafting system. They also discussed new Trick or Treat Studios Hellraiser figures that are available for pre-order, with an estimated shipping date of December 9, 2026, and a special bundle price of $159.96. The figures will be 8 inches tall with some articulation features, and were sculpted by Alexander Ray. Clive Barker's "The Body Politic The group discussed Clive Barker's story "The Body Politic," focusing on its extended metaphor about body parts rebelling against the control of the brain. They analyzed how the story explores themes of revolution, tyranny, and the consequences of following a wrong leader, particularly through the character of Charlie George whose hands conspire against him. The discussion included details about the film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway" and compared it to the original story, noting differences in the ending where Charlie jumps from a roof followed by the hands, leading to their collective doom. Clive Barker's "The Collection" Analysis The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Collection" and its film adaptation, focusing on themes of revolution and the body's autonomy. They analyzed how the story explores the concept of body parts rebelling against their owners, with José noting the film's cameos including Clive Barker and John Landis. The discussion concluded with speculation about which body part would be most terrifying if it rebelled, with eyes and butts being particular points of concern. Clive Barker Story Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Body Politic," sharing personal reactions and experiences, including one listener's connection to the story through a personal injury. They reviewed comments from Reddit and their listeners' group, noting the story's themes of revolution and control. The team announced their next content will be audio commentaries for the 1987 films "Prince of Darkness" and "Angel Heart," chosen after a tie vote between those films and "Hellraiser." They also mentioned upcoming content including "The Inhuman Condition" in their Book Club of Blood series.

0% on Rotten Tomatoes is rare, but after watching Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002), we get it. We go scene by scene through a sequel that drowns in non-linear edits, “gotcha” hallucinations, and a plot that keeps resetting right when it might finally build momentum. The result is less supernatural horror and more confused limbo, where sex, murder, and flashbacks pile up without earning dread or clarity. We also talk franchise expectations: what makes Hellraiser and Pinhead iconic in the first place, why the puzzle box mythology needs rules, and how this movie sidelines the very things fans show up for. If you've ever wondered how a horror sequel can feel like it was stitched together from a different script, our breakdown of the tone, performances, and missing Cenobites makes the case. Along the way, we hit our categories, including the Sinister Sip cocktail called “Hellraiser,” a Tropes Hall of Shame run through the usual suspects, and a long list of what truly doesn't hold up, from awkward effects to the baffling crash setup. In our bonus research, we get into the direct-to-video reality, the low budget, and the wild stat that Pinhead is on screen for under five minutes. We wrap with our watchability score, plus a few comparisons to movies that handle twists, punishment, and psychological horror far better. If you like spoiler-heavy horror movie podcast reviews, deep dives into bad sequels, and honest takes on franchise fatigue, hit play, then subscribe, share the show, and leave us a review wherever you listen. Head to www.screamsandstreams.com for more information related to our episode.

Jamie Clayton didn't just make major headlines when she landed the role of Pinhead in the new Hellraiser (2022) movie, she also made horror history. Clive Barker's original novella — and the 1987 film adaptation — were both deeply rooted in the queer kink scene, and the reboot brings that LGBTQIA+ representation directly onto the screen through its cast and characters. But by being able to be explicit about its inclusivity, did this flick sacrifice a little of its explicitness in other areas? For our latest episode of Trans Pride, we're summoning the Cenobites for a conversation about the yuck factor and yum factor involved in the newest installment of one of the genre's biggest franchises. They reviewed the Hellraiser Revival game's Cenobite Collector's Edition, comparing it to the previous Leviathan edition and noting the lack of a signed Clive Barker print as a key difference. The hosts watched a new developer diary for the game, showcasing more detailed Cenobite animations and gameplay footage with Doug Bradley's voice work. They also discussed upcoming Hellraiser conventions including Mad Monster Party in Arizona and Days of the Dead events in Chicago and Atlanta, featuring several Cenobite actors. The podcast concluded with plans for their next book club discussion of "The Body Politic" from Books of Blood Volume 4 and a vote on which 1987 film to compare to Hellraiser. Hellraiser Developer Diary Discussion Ryan and José discussed technical issues with audio and video settings before planning to watch a developer diary video about Cenobytes and Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. José shared a link to a YouTube video and they briefly discussed its content, though Ryan only watched a 30-second preview due to the initial link issue. The conversation ended with Ryan asking about "Team French" but the question remained unclear due to audio issues. Nightbreed 4K Restoration Discussion José and Ryan discussed a new 4K restoration of the film Nightbreed, including both theatrical and director's cuts, with enhanced features like Dolby Vision HDR, new artwork, and a companion book. They reflected on previous collector's editions and debated whether physical media releases, including 4K, would continue to be relevant given the rise of digital formats. Both agreed that while digital media is growing, physical media will likely persist in some form, particularly for collectors and professionals in the film industry. Physical Media's Enduring Relevance José and Ryan discussed the ongoing relevance of physical media in the age of streaming services. They noted that while streaming has become popular, limitations in internet speeds and the temporary nature of licensed content on platforms like Netflix mean physical media will likely continue to have a place. They highlighted how streaming platforms have shifted focus toward producing their own content rather than licensing existing material, leading viewers to seek out older content on alternative platforms like YouTube. The conversation concluded with appreciation for companies like Arrow, Shout Factory, and Turbine Media that continue to produce physical media releases. Nightbreed 4K Release Discussion Ryan and José discussed a new Arrow Video 4K release of Nightbreed, comparing the UK and potential US versions. They noted that the UK release includes exclusive extras like behind-the-scenes footage and UK-specific content, though they were uncertain if these features would be included in the US version. The UK release is priced at 30 pounds, which Ryan and José considered a good deal, though they agreed to wait for the US release to potentially save money and see if it includes similar extras. Hellraiser Game Edition Comparisons José and Ryan discussed the differences between various editions of the Hellraiser Revival game, including the new Cenobite Collector's Edition priced at $199. They compared features between the Leviathan Edition and Cenobite Edition, noting that the Leviathan includes a hand-signed art print while the Cenobite edition features a Cenobite statue and other exclusive items. The discussion highlighted concerns about the long pre-order period, which has been ongoing for about a year since the last pre-order update in June 2025, and they noted that the new dev diary "Cenobytes" provides additional footage of Cenobites in the game. Hellraiser Revival Collector's Edition Discussion José and Ryan discussed a Hellraiser Revival Collector's Edition, which includes a Cenobite statue, puzzle box, enamel pins, and a digital soundtrack. They watched a dev diary video showcasing the game's features, including platforming elements and various Cenobite characters. The video highlighted the game's focus on grotesque scenes and jump scares, with Doug Bradley's involvement adding credibility to the project. José and Ryan noted the game's potential for a gradual descent into horror, similar to Big Trouble in Little China, and expressed hope for an upcoming release date announcement. Temple of the Killer Tiger Monkeys Ryan and José discussed the audio drama "Temple of the Killer Tiger Monkeys," which features original Cenobite actors including Doug Bradley, Simon Bamford, and Nicholas Vince. They agreed to create a future podcast episode about the series, potentially including an interview with Simon Banford. The conversation also covered Ghanaian movie posters, specifically a Hellraiser poster by artist Heavy J, which is now available for purchase through Deadly Prey Gallery. Finally, they mentioned upcoming Hellraiser and Nightbreed conventions featuring the Cenobite actors. Horror Conventions and Content Planning José and Ryan discussed upcoming horror conventions, including Mad Monster Party Arizona in July 2026 and Days of the Dead events in Chicago and Atlanta. They expressed interest in meeting Peter Atkins at the Chicago event in November 2026, with both planning to discuss time off work to attend. José also mentioned upcoming content plans, including a book club discussion of "The Body Politic" from Books of Blood Volume 4 and a vote on a 1987 movie to compete against Hellraiser. Horror Movies Discussion Ryan and José discussed various horror movies, including The Lost Boys, Prince of Darkness, The Gate, Bad Taste, Angel Heart, Beaks, and Iron Warrior. They shared their opinions on these films, with José expressing a preference for Bad Taste due to its chaotic nature. Ryan mentioned his interest in watching Prince of Darkness, The Gate, or Angel Heart again. They also briefly discussed actor Stephen Dorff's role in The Gate and his appearance in Blade. The conversation concluded with José mentioning Nicholas Vince's recent campaign for the Green Party in the UK elections. UK Elections and Media Discussion José and Ryan discussed recent local elections in the UK, with Ryan encouraging José to vote for Nicholas Vince in future elections. They then talked about editing a podcast episode, noting that while some parts like screen sharing would be easy to edit out, removing fillers like "ums" would be more time-consuming. The conversation concluded with a discussion about a Hellraiser script booklet, comparing different versions and discussing whether certain autographs were real or printed.

We're diving into the 1987 horror classic written and directed by Clive Barker in his directorial debut, adapted from his novella The Hellbound Heart. A nightmarish blend of body horror and dark fantasy, the film explores desire, pain, and pleasure through the opening of a mysterious puzzle box that unleashes the Cenobites—most famously the chilling Pinhead. Still as unsettling and influential today as it was on release, Hellraiser remains a landmark in horror cinema that continues to haunt audiences decades later.

The discussion covered the two commentary tracks - one with director David Bruckner and another with effects team members Josh Russell and Sierra Spencer - exploring the film's production details, practical effects, and design elements including the puzzle box configurations created by Martin Emborg. The group examined the movie's technical aspects, including the loom mechanism, Cenobite designs, and location shooting in Serbia, while also discussing the film's connection to Clive Barker and its place within the Hellraiser franchise. They also reviewed the special features on the Blu-ray, including trailers for all Hellraiser movies and various featurettes about the production process.   Hellraiser 2022 Blu-ray Analysis The group discussed the Hellraiser 2022 4K Blu-ray release from Turbine Media, which was the first physical release in Ultra HD anywhere. They reviewed the German booklet included with some editions, which José had helped translate, and discussed the movie's production details including the puzzle box designs by Martin Emborg. The participants, including Ed and Nina Martinez, praised the David Bruckner commentary track and shared observations about the film's visual differences between streaming and Blu-ray versions. They also discussed Easter eggs in the film, including a Clive Barker print and a Johann Fusil painting, and explored the connection between the new Hellraiser film and David Goyer's previous work on "The Night House." Hellraiser Art Book Discussion The group discussed the creation of an art book for the Hellraiser film, with Ed expressing interest in helping produce it and noting that the Russells had previously shown interest in creating such a book. They discussed the film's commentary track, where David Bruckner revealed he hadn't watched the movie since completing it years ago. The conversation also covered potential extended scenes, particularly regarding the death of the lawyer character, though the group noted these scenes may not have been filmed. Film Commentary and Production Insights The group discussed commentary tracks for a film, particularly praising David Bruckner's commentary for being engaging without dead air. Ed shared details about creating a commentary track with Josh, Spencer, and Sierra Russell, noting that Nina helped coordinate it. They discussed the film's production, including abandoned subplots and design elements, such as the character Mask and a rejected bloodier design for Pinhead. Ed mentioned that photos of the alternative Pinhead design were available on their YouTube channel. Cenobites and Leviathan Tech Design The group discussed the design and creation of the Cenobites and Leviathan tech in a movie, focusing on specific details like the appearance of the Hellpriest, the materials used for the suits, and practical effects. They noted the challenges faced by actors wearing heavy silicone appliances and the adjustments made to makeup during filming. The conversation also touched on the aesthetic choices, such as the shininess of the Leviathan tech and the decision to move away from leather suits, though some participants expressed a preference for the traditional look. Hellraiser Production Effects Discussion The group discussed production details and creative decisions from a Hellraiser movie, focusing on practical effects and character transformations. They examined the choice to use a "hurdy-gurdy" instead of a loom, and discussed the practical mechanics of the device worn by Goran under his clothing. The conversation also covered the Faraday cage concept and its potential use as a protective barrier against Cenobites, noting how the film combined elements from Hellraiser 1 and 2 while incorporating significant practical effects including miniature sets for the labyrinth. Hellraiser Movie Bonus Features The group discussed the Hellraiser movie, focusing on the transformation scene and commentary tracks. They explored the bonus features on Disc 3, including trailers for various Hellraiser movies in both English and German. The conversation also touched on the creators' workshop space and their previous work on films like The Ritual and The Night House. The discussion concluded with a debate about the best way to watch movies, particularly atmospheric ones, with a preference for theater or high-quality home viewing over mobile devices. Unused Movie Concept Art Review The group discussed various aspects of a movie, including concerns about content and design choices. They examined unused concept art by Keith Thompson, including designs for Cenobites and other characters. The discussion covered details about specific character designs, transformations, and technical elements that were considered but not used in the final film. José shared images from Thompson's blog and explained some of the design decisions, while Ed and Ryan provided additional context and trivia about the film's production. Leviathan Concept Art Review José presented concept art designs for the film Leviathan, including detailed illustrations of Cenobites, the brother puppet, and the character Leviathan itself. He shared designs by both Keith Thompson and Peter Morbacher, noting that while Thompson's designs were ultimately used in the film, Morbacher's alternative concepts, such as a different version of Butterball and various Cenobite designs, were not implemented. The group discussed how some designs incorporated elements like skin capes and unique facial features, with Ed commenting on the use of CG in the film compared to previous projects with Doug Bradley. Hellraiser Design and Special Effects The group discussed the design and creation of the Hellraiser movie, focusing on the Cenobites and special effects. They explored how the writers approached the story, including early concepts and how they incorporated elements from Clive Barker's work while maintaining the film's unique tone. The discussion also covered the "Leviathan Tech" feature, which examined the mechanical torture devices worn by the Cenobites, and highlighted the challenges in bringing these designs to life, particularly for the Chatterer character.

Jeremiah Kipp is a New York–based horror filmmaker whose work includes The Sadist, Slapface, and The Geechee Witch: A Boo Hag Story. In this episode, Jeremiah breaks down his expansive career journey and finely tuned process for working with actors, maximizing low budgets, and keeping sets running smoothly. Jeremiah also discusses the importance of mentorship in his career, including his longstanding relationships with genre greats, and former guests of the show, Larry Fessenden and Jim Mickle. And of course, we dive deep into his most recent feature, the adaptation of the viral video game The Mortuary Assistant, coming to Shudder on March 27th. Without further ado, here is Mortuary Assistant Director, Jeremiah Kipp.KEY TAKEAWAYSChoose Material That Speaks to You PersonallyJeremiah initially had little interest in adapting a video game. But when he played The Mortuary Assistant, he connected deeply to the protagonist, Rebecca Owens, a woman who hides inside her work to avoid confronting her personal demons. That personal entry point became his entire pitch: preserve the game's dread and atmosphere while grounding the film in emotional vulnerability. He and game creator Brian Clark bonded over shared anxieties and experiences, and it became the start of an excellent collaboration because Jeremiah was able to relate to the material on a deeply personal level. When directing, it's critical to put a big part of yourself into your projects, otherwise, why should you be the one to direct it?If you can't channel personal experience into a movie, or if the producers don't leave room for that, it might not be the right fit for you, and that's fine. Find the emotional core that connects to your own life or unique sensibility. Otherwise, the movie becomes just a gig. Producers can tell when your heart isn't in it. Audiences can too. Make it personal, or don't do it.Make sure Everyone is Rowing in the Same DirectionThe Mortuary Assistant, a very creatively unified, cohesive production as opposed to an earlier project that Jeremiah passed on where the vision kept shifting. That earlier project had producers that first wanted Blair Witch-style dread, then Herschell Gordon Lewis gore, then something akin to Black Phone. This unfocused behavior is a MASSIVE red flag, and even if you're just starting out, you should run because you're probably being setup to fail. Of course, not everyone is going to agree and get your vision, but if producers don't know what they want, or you're getting massively conflicting feedback from those you're meant to report to, no one will win, and you as the director will get all the blame. As Budgets Increase, Money Feels SmallerJim Mickle warned Kipp: “As you move up the budget ladder, it feels like you have less money.” This is a fascinating paradox but really makes sense when you think about it. More money means more department heads, larger builds, higher actor costs, bigger expectations, more moving parts, and less margin for error. More money means better production value but often less time and less freedom. We all want bigger budgets but, heed this warning going in.De-escalation Is a Crucial Leadership SkillMovie-making is grueling and involves long nights, early mornings, physically punishing days, little sleep, and less-than-adequate nutrition from crafty — all within a high-pressure environment. In other words, it's a recipe for potential volatility among those involved. Things go wrong on sets, tensions run high, and having worked on as many movies as he has, Jeremiah learned that de-escalating situations is a critical skill.A lot of would-be directors expect to take on a domineering presence where they demand full obedience from everyone on set. This attitude will have your cast and crew turning on you by day one, and your movie will suffer for it. Instead, assume a posture of humility. Take your ego out of volatile situations to relieve tension — even when the people you're dealing with are the ones at fault. You gain nothing by arguing or by being “right,” especially if it comes at the expense of someone else. Your goal should never be to win or assert dominance, but to keep the movie on track by stabilizing those working around you. It's massively humbling but absolutely critical. This doesn't mean you tolerate blatant disrespect. But avoiding needless confrontation doesn't make you weak; it makes you smart because you're protecting the steadiness of your production. One bad attitude can poison a set quickly, so it's critical to protect morale at all costs and handle conflict privately and strategically. The real leadership flex is emotional regulation.Show NotesMovies MentionedThe Mortuary AssistantSlapfaceThe Geechee Witch: A Boo Hag StoryThe BabadookHereditaryThe WitchI Sell the DeadFried BarryHalloween (John Carpenter)Dawn of the Dead (George A. They analyzed the painting's composition, colors, and techniques, considering whether it was truly a self-portrait or perhaps a character study. Don Bertram shared insights as an artist and collector, while José and Ryan explored themes of transformation and creativity. They also briefly discussed the 2022 Hellraiser movie release and its special features. The conversation concluded with plans to vote on future art pieces to analyze. Summary Clive Barker Self-Portrait Discussion The group discussed a self-portrait painting by Clive Barker from 2007, which was selected through a listener vote. José provided context about the painting, including its size (60x48 inches), medium (oil on canvas), and exhibition history at the Bert Green Gallery. The painting sold for $8,000 and was described as a beautiful character portrait. The discussion concluded with José inviting the participants to share their analysis of the portrait's style and emotional impact, though specific reactions were not captured in the transcript. Clive Barker Self-Portrait Discussion Don and Ryan discussed a large self-portrait by Clive Barker, noting its similarities to his "Abarat" style and comparing it to earlier works. Don expressed a preference for Barker's more cerebral images over this illustrative piece, suggesting the large size (4 by 5 feet) might be intended to command attention rather than being a traditional self-portrait. José proposed that the size creates a sense of confrontation and demands engagement, while Don speculated that the piece might originally have been intended for a different character in the Abarat series before being repurposed as a self-portrait. Clive Barker Painting Analysis Discussion The group discussed a painting that appears to depict Clive Barker, with José arguing it's a self-portrait while Don suggested it might be a portrait of another character. José analyzed the artistic elements, describing the symmetrical composition and expressionistic style with bold brushstrokes and flames as an aura rather than a setting. The discussion included comparisons to other Barker works and references to specific book editions, with Don suggesting the painting might be used as a dust jacket or limited edition book cover. Clive Barker Painting Interpretation Discussion The group discussed a painting of Clive Barker, interpreting the fire surrounding him as representing transformation, danger, or creative intensity. José and Ryan connected this to Barker's recurring theme of characters being forged or transformed through proximity to powerful or high-stakes events, while remaining intact. They noted the painting's medium of oils, which allows for layers and revisions similar to how people build their self-identity, and expressed interest in seeing a higher quality image of the painting. Gallery Exhibition Art Discussion The group discussed a painting that was part of a gallery exhibition called "New Paintings and Works on Paper" in 2007. They clarified that the $8,000 price listed on Phil and Sarah's website represents the original asking price rather than a confirmed sale price. José shared his screen to show other paintings from the same exhibition, including "She Waits" and "Voices of the Damned," which was possibly related to Barbie Wilde's book. The discussion also touched on other works by Aberet, including some black and white pieces and drawings. Clive Barker Self-Portrait Analysis The group discussed a self-portrait painting by Clive Barker, examining its artistic techniques and comparing it to other Barker self-portraits. They analyzed specific elements like the use of color, eye details, and the symbolic representation of a monster inside the artist's head. The conversation concluded with a brief discussion about the Hellraiser 2022 Blu-ray release, including its special features and the inclusion of one of Barker's paintings in the film, though it was covered with plastic and barely visible. AI Summary (News) Quick recap Ryan and José recorded episode 527 of their Clive Barker podcast, focusing on recent news updates about Hellraiser-related projects. They discussed a new developer diary for the Hellraiser Revival video game, which showed promising gameplay mechanics and featured Doug Bradley's voice work as the Hellpriest. The hosts also covered Hellraiser Bloodline's 30th anniversary celebrations and Gary J. Tunnicliffe's reflections on working on the film. They examined a new YouTube series by composer Chris Velasco, noted an upcoming 4K release of Nightbreed from Arrow Films, and discussed Brian Fuller's announcement of a potential new TV series collaboration with Clive Barker. The episode concluded with plans for future content including an upcoming discussion about Clive Barker's self-portrait with Don Bertram. They also reviewed a developer diary for the Hellraiser Revival game, noting its 6-minute length and content featuring Doug Bradley. José expressed concerns about the game's marketing as "very explicit" and questioned the focus on explicit content versus storytelling. Hellraiser Game Development Discussion José and Ryan discussed a Hellraiser game and its development, focusing on the challenges of depicting violence and sex in the game while staying true to the franchise's lore. José expressed optimism about the game's potential, noting the strong story and powerful narrative. They also discussed finding a specific social media post about the game and planned to continue their conversation later. Clive Barker Podcast News Episode Ryan and José discussed comments on a social media post about a game, with José noting the significant engagement it received. They shared experiences with previous games, including "Agony" and "Hellraiser," with both expressing disappointment in their quality. The conversation then transitioned to preparing for recording the 527th episode of the Clive Barker Podcast, which would be a news episode. Hellraiser Game and Film Discussion Ryan and José discussed the Hellraiser Revival game, including a recent developer diary featuring Doug Bradley. They expressed excitement about the game's mechanics and graphics but noted the lack of a confirmed release date, speculating it might be around Halloween. The conversation also touched on the 30th anniversary of Hellraiser Bloodline and included reflections from Gary J. Tunercliffe about the film's impact and his experiences working on it. They debated criticisms of the Hulu Hellraiser movie, particularly regarding the Cenobites' threat level and story elements. Hellraiser Franchise and Podcast Discussion José and Ryan discussed the Hellraiser franchise, including criticism of certain characters and the recent anniversary of Hellraiser Bloodline. They also talked about supporting Chris Velasco's new YouTube content, though Ryan noted it's not a traditional podcast since it lacks an RSS feed. The conversation concluded with a discussion about the advantages of audio podcasts over video content for convenience and accessibility. Nightbreed 4K Release Plans Ryan and José discussed the upcoming 4K release of Nightbreed by Arrow Films on May 25th, 2026, which will include both the theatrical and director's cuts in Ultra HD. They noted that while the director's cut was originally scanned in HD, the 4K release will feature new content including a feature-length documentary and interviews with critics. Ryan also shared news from Screen Rant about Brian Fuller working on a new TV series with Clive Barker, though details about the project are still unknown. Film Projects and Podcast Plans Ryan and José discussed various film and television projects, including a potential Mick Garris and Clive Barker collaboration titled "Theater of Blood." They also talked about their podcast content, including an upcoming episode about the Hellraiser 2022 Ultra HD Blu-ray release and a future discussion about Clive Barker's character portraits with Don Bertram. The conversation touched on the challenges of keeping track of all announced projects and the disappointment when some don't materialize.

José mentioned translating a German booklet about the Hellraiser franchise for Ryan to read, which covers Clive Barker's decision to film Hellraiser, the history of the franchise, and the deal with Hulu and David Bruckner. HBO Series Cancellation and Poll Ryan and José discussed the cancellation of an HBO series and the success of a Hulu movie, noting that HBO Max has reverted to its original name. They also talked about a Kickstarter project for a collector's edition of Hellraiser comics, which is set to launch soon. In 1987 Clive Barker brought us Hellraiser and the Cenobites. In 2022 another movie was introduced to us, and it brought back the decades-old franchise with this 11th installment. With this movie closely following Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart, there is balance in beauty and horror and it's not to be mistaken for a reboot, it's quite the opposite. Hopefully my guest today can help us understand just that. I absolutely love this interview! Gorica and I talked deeply about this movie and her character, The Mother, and providing details about her theories regarding her character's lore in the film and The Mother's backstory. Does The Mother possess any human qualities? I am sure that the character in the story did at one point before being transformed into a Cenobite. However, I believe that The Mother has a connection with Hellbound: Hellraiser II and that is the infamous baby crying scene where it exploits maternal instinct. She also went into detail about the costume and makeup process; as she said, she felt like a car getting detailed with the airbrush. There is a new viewpoint brought to light by my guest: that this movie heavily deals with capitalism. Keeping an open mind, I am going to have to watch the movie again attempting to wrap my head around it. It might be true after all. Check out Hellraiser (2022) still streaming on Hulu and Disney+.

On Day 10 of our 31 Days of Halloween, episode 160, I'm flying solo with Clive Barker's Hellraiser (1987). This one is pure nightmare fuel, yet I can't help but admire the gorgeous grotesque artistry of it all. From the unforgettable Cenobites to the exquisite gore, Barker creates a world that's both bleak and strangely beautiful. This is horror that doesn't just scare—it mesmerizes, leaving you caught between revulsion and awe.Support The Conner & Smith Show on Patreon here:https://www.patreon.com/ConnerandSmith?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan

Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay ask, 'What's your pleasure, sir' before discussing a movie that is a fulcrum in the Degen Cinema canon, 'Hellraiser.' Bombay starts it off by recalling when he first opened up the box to cheating in his youth, and how it involved a summer of watching this on repeat as a teen. Then the boys talk about a movie that was a mind boggling intro into incredible gnarly practical FX, and BDSM, which led to their minds being forever warped at far too young ages. It was difficult to grasp Uncle Frank being so good in bed that it transcended reality and transfixed Julia, who gladly humped a reanimated corpse. Packed with salaciously disturbing imagery, and jaw dropping gore this horror masterpiece is from another era when folks actually flocked to the multiplex to watch this filth. The incredible FX and creature design helped make Pinhead a pop culture icon, and the movie goes into bizarro overdrive once he and the Cenobites truly make their presence felt. It may be filled with some stilted performances, and a perplexing UK-based '80s New York setting, but that strangeness only adds to how disorientingly deranged this masterpiece is. Make sure you listen to the full episode, as "We have such sights to show you."

Doug dives into the origins of Pinhead's terrifying look, the philosophy behind horror villains, and what it's like when strangers recognize him as the guy who tormented their nightmares.Christina presses Doug on whether BDSM aesthetics became mainstream thanks to Cenobites, and if he's ever had to explain his career choices at awkward family dinners. Doug also shares behind-the-scenes stories of low-budget chaos, midnight makeup chair marathons, and how becoming a horror icon changed his life in ways he never saw coming. With frequent detours into absurdity Doug also proves he's not just a master of horror—he's got comedy chops too. Send us a textFew faces are as hauntingly iconic in the world of horror as that of Pinhead, the demonic leader of the Cenobites in Clive Barker's Hellraiser universe. And while Doug Bradley originally brought the role to life, it was Paul T. Taylor who dared to don the pins in 2018's Hellraiser: Judgment, ushering the legendary villain into a new chapter for a new generation of horror fans. His performance captured the cold intellect, sadistic elegance, and terrifying calm that fans had come to love—earning him a place in the horror pantheon. But Taylor's talents extend far beyond the hellish dimension of the Hellraiser universe. With roles in films like Sin City, Super, and various television and stage productions, Taylor is a versatile performer who has spent decades sharpening his craft across genres. Still, it's his role as Pinhead that connected him deeply to the horror culture community—a passionate, loyal audience that celebrates practical effects, psychological depth, and the actors who bring monsters to life.Embraced by the Horror CommunityWithin the horror scene, Taylor is more than an actor—he's become a fan-favorite guest at conventions, signings, and horror-themed events around the country. He embraces the community with the same authenticity that fans bring to him, never shying away from the impact his portrayal of Pinhead has had. Whether it's discussing the philosophy of horror, the craftsmanship of effects work, or just sharing behind-the-scenes stories, Taylor brings heart and humility to a genre that's often misunderstood by outsiders. He's set to make an appearance at one of Missouri's biggest pop culture events, the ToyMan Show in St. Charles, MO, on Sunday, July 13, 2025. This massive gathering of collectors, fans, cosplayers, and creators will give attendees a chance to meet Paul T. Taylor in person—snap photos, get autographs, and dive into the dark lore of Hellraiser and beyond. He'll join other celebrity guests at this two-level celebration of all things toys, comics, horror, and nostalgia. The Barn Appearance: A Conversation with Tippy JoAhead of the ToyMan Show, Taylor sat down with Chad Winch and Brett Wiley of The Tippy Jo Show on The Barn Podcast Network for an exclusive and wide-ranging conversation. The episode dives deep into Taylor's time preparing for the role of Pinhead, his experiences on set, and his thoughts on how the horror genre has evolved over time. With genuine humor and insight, Taylor opens up about what it's like to become part of such a beloved (and feared) franchise—and what the future holds for him both inside and outside the horror realm.Whether you know him as Pinhead, a performer from Sin City, or simply as a devotewww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Every Friday is FRIDAY NIGHT FIENDS during HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST and today we're discussing the follow up to one of our favorite horror movies. Kirsty, Julia, Pinhead and the Lament Configuration are back and hotter than ever and we're gonna be spending a lot of time down under under the gaze of Leviathan. We're talking “HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER 2” from 1988 directed by Tony Randel and starring Claire Higgins, Ashley Laurence and Doug Bradley. The sultry Julia returns with the help of a sick doctor and she's leading souls into hell for her master, LEVIATHAN. Kirsty's brave ass wants to go and rescue her father and the Cenobites return with grandiose plans of torture. All the gore and eroticism work almost as well as in the original and then the last 30 minutes happen. Why did they go out like that? Still looks demented and cool but does the good outweigh the underwhelming? Hear us tell it. This movie definitely has its fans but boy does word of mouth drop off hard for the franchise after this one.
